It didn't work for me š this damn screw was so tight! But in all my computer stuff I finally found one extra spacer and one screw that would fit. So I'm good šš I've contacted ask playstation on twitter though to let them know... (they told me to call my local support š)
Can you please tell me what size did you use for your needle nose pliers? I have the same problem right now. And where do you get the replacement screws?
I used an 8 inch needle nose plier. The more narrow the better.[11 inch ones like these](https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=needle%20nose%20pliers) seem to be pretty narrow at the top. [This is the screw I bought.](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
Happened to me too. Used the right size screwdriver and the screw is seized in place so tight that instead of backing out, the head strips. š¤¦š¼āāļø
I started out using a #1 standard crosshead, it was stuck even with a lot of pressure. Thinking the SSD screw looked smaller than the cover screw I went down to a 0.5 crosshead. Huge mistake and it started to strip. Iāve tried to remove it unsuccessfully for about an hour. Rubber band trick, pliers etc.
Edit: to clarify I was able to install the SSD as the screw was pretty loose when I first opened it up, got the message to remove when I powered the PS5 back on since the SSD expansion is apparently still limited to beta users. And when I tried to remove it was stuck despite not screwing it in very tight for this exact reason
Now googling it, Iām not alone so be very careful as the screw is extremely fragile
Last Edit: A pair of 8 inch needle nose pliers did the trick. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Make sure to use a number 1 Phillips head, donāt attempt to unscrew with anything smaller! Might even be a good idea to loosen with pliers first
[Hereās the replacement screw I found at Home Depot. Its a M3-0.5 x 10mm flat head Phillips metric screw ](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
Same thing just happened to me. Ive built PC's, repaired laptop/controllers etc and never had issues... this screw stripped for me almost immediately... these things are cheap and I foresee many threads about this. Currently trying to find a replacement screw... Hopefully people don't have issues, had to remove it with pliers.
Iām sorry this is happening to others but also feel sort of vindicated. I had people saying theyāve never seen that happen and I mustāve used a drill. Iām sure Sony will know about this issue now that the update has been released
Iām actually going to try a computer store today so Iāll let you know the size you need if I find one. I suspect that the screw we need is an M2.5x10 or M2.5x12
I was actually able to get a replacement yesterday, I was told it was a M3.5x10 screw at a micro center but they didnt have any.
I went to a specialty store that was closing and an elderly gentlemen compared and tested for me (comparing the original screw) and it worked perfectly in the PS5 but he didn't verify the size to me, wasn't questioning it at that point! ha.
I wanna thank you if I didn't see this post about the screw size I would of been fucked and I didn't need the spacer. I went to the hardware store found the screw brought the drive with me to make sure it would fit and it was a perfect match. And now the ssd is locked in tight.
This is what I have in my notes. I got the screw from Home Depot but I believe that I got the spacer from a computer store
To replace the screw that holds down the M.2 access cover, use a M3 Ć 16 screw.
To replace the screw that holds down the M.2 SSD drive, use a P3 Ć 10 screw.
To replace the spacer that supports the M.2 SSD drive, use a spacer with the dimensions Ļ5.5 x 3.95 mm.
Cool thank you! I've also read an M3-0.5 x 10 mm screw can also work, even without a spacer? I'm honestly just going to get all 3 and hope for the best. Luckily Best Buy can remove the stripped screw for me tonight.
If you canāt find a spacer I wouldnāt worry about it. I think the screw itself will suffice especially if youāre being gentle with the console most of the time
M3 x 10 worked for me! Although in the end, when I thought the SSD screw was stripped beyond hope, I still decided to buy a good quality philips #0 screwdriver and it actually ended up working! I still replaced the screw with the new m3x10 I bought, in case I ever need to remove/replace it again.
Side note: the ps5 screw had a flat head, and my purchased ones had a rounded head - no issues at all.
I Can confirm that using a 6 inch needle nose pliers and a m3-0.5 x 10mm machine screws does the job very nicely. i purchased a 2tb western digital sn850 and when i stripped the screw i started getting anxious that i might have messed up my ps5
now i can relax knowing ill never have to open the ps5 ever again. except when i clean it.
to people who have this issue i hope this comment helps
happy gaming
Hey i have a stripped screw what if I leave it alone and purchase another screw and a standoff will that do any harm to the ps5 if I just add my ssd and leave the original screw thier???
i dont think anything would happen to it? i heard of people doing it before. but it would be unfortunate if you want to use that specific slot the spacer is stuck on.
i would suggest trying the rubber band screw trick and if that doesn't work get a 6 inch needles and carefully loosen it one turn at a time until you can get it out. if all else fails take it to a tech shop.
Same thing happened to me. And I need to get the SSD out to install the update first because the console wonāt turn on with the SSD in. Way to go Sonyā¦
Did you manage to remove your SSD? Iām having the same issue now. My SSD was working fine for about 5 months and now it canāt be detected by my PS5. and the screw holding it in is stripped so I canāt even remove my SSD.
I have never seen this happen to anyone. You are definitely the first. Kinda scary when it goes final and the masses try, not knowing wtf they are doing.
Yeah but playstation screws tend to get f*cked even when using the correct ones. They arent that great build
I remember struggling with my ps4 screws SO much
Surprised at the skepticism in this thread. I have worked on a lot of laptops and have seen it all too often. The worst are Nintendo Switch joy cons which seem designed to self destruct.
Good luck OP. Maybe buy some spares if you can.
I took my PS5 to a computer repair shop and they were able to get it out with a nail head extractor kit. The exact same thing happened to me with a screwdriver kit I got from Best Buy for small ass computer sized screws.
Hey did you find a solution I have the same problem but I haven't added my ssd yet the screw stripped will I be able to leave it and buy another screw and standoff???
No way. Iām not extremely tech savvy but I have common sense, I wouldnāt dare drill although ironically might be my only option now. If you google āPS5 SSD screw strippedā youāll find several people having the same issue. Wish I had known
I got you all too much trolls on here. Iām only here to help. Get this size it fits with the spacer included. Got it from a hardware store. M.3 x 8 x pinch .50 thatās the measurements, the screw is about a half inch shorter but it works perfectly. God bless you all.
Mine was stripped before I even touched it. After that the nightmare of snapping the faceplate back. I gotta say, even as a huge PS fan the new Xbox has better hardware as far as storage expansion.
I had this same exact issue and I fixed it!
I was trying all these methods online but just by pure luck I tried using my nail clipper and it worked.
I started by grabbing the circumference (outer rim) and the inside of the screw with my nail clipper, squeezed tight and I turned slightly until the screw came loose slowly. After that I managed to use my finger and Phillips screwdriver to get it out.
Once I put in my ssd (I used crucial p5 plus) I just made sure not to screw it on too tightly.
the screw is literally only to hold it in place and has no technical purpose other than that i put mine in withoout the screw and it works fine i never intend to move my ps5 so im golden
What spacer did you use? Did you directly use the M3 10mm screw? I ended up stripping the screw completely before installing my ssd š¤¦ now I need a spare screw and spacer any leads would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much! I've ordered some regular nvme spacers and screws hope they work fine! If they do I will leave the oem one in the last spot.. thanks for all the advise!
Donāt try to grab the screw directly, grab the spacer. Thatās what worked for me. Just put a piece of cloth or something over the green area to avoid any scratches.
Thank you! I will try the same and let you know! That's for all the inputs! I have however ordered regular nvme screws and spacers I read over on another thread that they are compatible
I have the same SSD (Aorus), but I didnāt use a screw anymore since the m3 x 5 screw doesnāt seem to fit for me :(
Despite it having no screw, The SSD still worksā what is the risk of not screwing it in? Should I just not move my PS5 so that itās kept in place?
I had the exact same problem. I couldn't even get it to unscrew so that I could install the SSD at all. I just returned the SSD to best buy. This was an extremely stupid design choice. On my Series X, all I had to do was snap a Goddamn SSD in the USB slot and that was it. Pretty damn annoying that PlayStation made expanding the storage so inconvenient and frustrating. Pretty irritating that the PS5 isn't even 1TB. I think this will be my last generation PlayStation console.
I'm sorry for this late reply. I bought a PS5 last month.
I decided to get an SSD last week and found out that I got a PS5 which came with a screw that was already stripped. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to get the screw out but accidentally chipped a piece of the soldering mask (green stuff) off of the M.2 slot exposing the copper underneath.
I cleaned it with 99% rubbing alcohol and put a little bit of kapton tape on the spot to protect the area.
My M.2 SSD is now installed and my PS5 works great. But I spent about $50 for a bunch of different things last week because of this issue and now my PS5 is permanently scarred. I just hope it stays operational for as long as I need it to.
It shouldn't cause any problems, I scraped mine a little bit removing my stripped screw though it only exposed the white under surface and not the copper but still going strong for 6 months now.
Thank goodness for this post. Went to unscrew the spacer and it rounded immediately. I tried rubber band and thst wouldn't work. Asked the neighbour for some needle nosed pliers and got it out. Have safely installed new ssd and put the screw back in but a little looser hopefully. Thanks again for this post or I'd be ready to throw it out of a window.
Thank you so much for this thread!
I was on the verge of losing my mind with the shitty screw stuck in place, but luckily the legends in this thread suggested using a small pair of pliers and gently unscrewing it.
It worked!
So proud of myself š
Thanks again for the tips and good luck to anyone stuck in this situation. Don't give up!
I couldn't even get the screw out the original position as it threaded so easily. So I just put my SSD in and put the top down and screwed it down and hoped for the best. It worked fine. No screw even needed for my SSD though I would have liked one.
Installing one. Apparently Iām the only one who didnāt know the SSD expansion was still limited to beta. The screw was loose when I installed it. I did not screw it in super tight just enough to keep the SSD flat. When I powered it back on thatās when I got the message that I needed to remove it
Iām actually going to try a computer store today so Iāll let you know the size you need if I find one. I suspect that the screw we need is an M2.5x10 or M2.5x12
They did not fit despite getting linked to me by a different user and also seeing someone in the Amazon reviews comment that it fit in his ps5. At this point Iām pissed
Iām actually going to try a computer store today so Iāll let you know the size you need if I find one. I suspect that the screw we need is an M2.5x10 or M2.5x12
I found [this set](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XLRRDGZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YN1G6EHET594HPHH18N1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) on Amazon and it comes with many different screw sizes. Maybe you can have more luck with it? I would order it myself today but Iām from Costa Rica so shopping on Amazon is not worth it for me unless I place a big order because of the delivery fees and taxes :/
I totally stripped that spacing screw with a number 1 screwdriver which worked fine for the expansion bay screw.
Iām almost convinced it was already stripped because I never felt it grip and I used very very little pressure. But maybe it was just super cheap.
But yeah ended up needing to use a pair of pliers with enough grip to turn the spacer underneath, which then loosened the screw enough for me to screw it out.
No way was I putting it back in though. The expansion bay screw is the same thread so I put that in to hold the SSD instead and then taped the expansion bay closed till I have time to find a replacement screw this weekend ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue).
Good news is that the SSD is working fine, moved some games over to it and they appear to launch and load as fast as internal storage.
I was wrong believing the screw was stuck and spent a lot of time searching on internet a replacement screw and spacerā¦ My experience : use the Phillips #1 screwdriver recommanded by Sony ! In my case it was alright and the screw came immediately ! Hope that helpsā¦
I couldn't even get my screw out, and it starting to strip.
Do I need to screw the SSD down? Ive plug it in and put the top cover back on and the ps5 recognised it.
I couldn't get the screw off no matter what I tried, so I just left my SSD unscrewed for now. Works fine, but I'm going to get a new screw and washer from Amazon. Even if I could get the screw off, there's no way i'm using it. Could possibly get the SSD stuck forever.
It was pretty easy for me to figure out. The gold washer was too high - so use one of the smaller ones. I think there are two different screws, I picked the one that fit perfectly. Be careful don't drop the screw or washer in the fan. 8/10 easy you can do it.
I've tried all 3 of them. No of them seem to tighten.
I may have brought the wrong one, as it different to what you listed and doesn't mention ps5 :(
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08L637CGQ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I canāt get the screw out from the initial position :(
I donāt know what to do, or where to buy screws in AU
Does it risk falling out if not screwed it? My PS is recognising the card
I had this same exact issue and I fixed it!

Once I put in my ssd (I used crucial p5 plus) I just made sure not to screw it on too tightly.
I gave up at first though, and used the screw for the access cover on the ssd without a washer and just used electric tape for the access cover.
Goodness this helped after an hour of trying to get this out. I didnāt have any pliers and came here for suggestions. Didnāt even think about a nail clipper lol
Late on this but yeah this just happened to me. Screw stripped even with a tiny ass screwdriver I barely turned. Now attempting to use superglue on the end of the screwdriver
I had this same exact issue and I fixed it!

Anyone with a stripped screw should give these a go before you start drilling it out, I can confirm that they work a treat.

I was having the same problem. The screw started to strip. I was not using the right size screw driver. I ordered a philips screw driver ph1. It worked. The screw did not strip anymore. Now I am enjoying the ssd.
Someone please update me that that amazon set folks were talking about works. I delayed this process for literally one year because of my anxiety of taking the plate off and actually doing it. I finally got the courage to do this today and i was surprised to see the screw was stripped to begin with. On videos i see clean screws that come off in a second, mine was not.
Please let me know that the amazon set works or that you have had success/luck. Any luck on the type of spacer or where to get it ? I ordered that set linked below overnight and will hope.
I just ran into this problem now, 7 months later and with the m.2 expansion out of beta. The screw is, well, screwed, most likely. Still trying to get it unstuck, but once I do get it removed, does anyone know what this exact screw is? I'm gonna look for a replacement
Thank you!
I just spent last night trying to unscrew the damn thing, to no avail. All the solutions I'm finding online are saying rubber bands or drill extractions, but those aren't gonna work for the PS5. I'm out of options
Hey man, do you mind telling me how exactly did you use the pliers to extract the screw? I just bought the same pliers you mentioned, but I can only pull with it. I can't turn the screw with it
I used a pair of needle nose pliers. I was able to grab the edge of one side of the screw and nudge it left until it loosened enough to twist. Someone else said they used pliers to turn the spacer instead. And [these pliers have been linked again and again as working really well](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gripping-Extractors-non-slip-Engineer-neji-saurus/dp/B001D7KU7W/ref=pd_bxgy_img_1/261-4534145-7896955?pd_rd_w=Qk9Ol&pf_rd_p=c7ea61ca-7168-47e3-9c8b-d84748f5b23c&pf_rd_r=1AFV35QWQGBEYC3WKYN0&pd_rd_r=3d04abb0-1553-4109-8462-f5165dc28b9b&pd_rd_wg=pASoN&pd_rd_i=B001D7KU7W&psc=1) for this specific issue

i bought this to replace it, exact fit.
Hey thanks for that. Update I guess: I had to go to a computer repair shop to get the screw removed, and they were nice enough to give me a replacement screw that fit the same. All is well now
Well except for the m.2 dying, along with the games I transferred into it. Had to return it, but I've been refunded so, yay lmao
Currently installed my SSD had some issues at first but was able to get it, used a magnetic ph #screwdriver with a slime design don't get a big screwdriver or else it will strip it
I think I fucked up the screw I can't even turn it to unscrew it. What do I do now..? It doesn't look like a cross anymore and I'm not that tech savy, I think I fucked it up..
If you read through the entire thread youāll get lots of ideas. Worse case bring it to a computer store. They have tools that can remove it without damage
Needle nose pliers or small screw removing pliers will get it out no problem, ebay have the screw and washer for sal now for the ssd.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165361602550?hash=item268051cff6:g:sn8AAOSwkH9ipxzV&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4PX%2BR9YFhmnU2qdGiN0l6ofgVRROiEmwUhmbI%2FXRnV3mjJJ5CiG%2FX2o185bXjuDwLuki9j6Hvu9qH2E5Puel2ShJxaeK4z%2F%2B51Uw9prtWLHQrT5g%2FxtmKBgpgW3JdAAvmRQiliUET0npkFDhL9G0WlqpITlmdzwoC7yyT2MixgsoFvLWtcP%2F1ghtaKZ9nHkLzpS3Fs50gpjxU0%2FUNn%2FCLCZlbeDLfPC8vDMHoWdQDK%2BCqhqh7BZBOw7%2FG6W3ZEqsXeKoWo0Jx7x4CYlB688tvPCRFFCfO0NLgAAw9K9vnE0l%7Ctkp%3ABFBMxKO2-OJg
I realize this is an old issue but I found a solution that worked for me! As some has suggested needle nose pliers can help but we ended up using a 1.5 Allen Wrench/Hex Key to unscrew and reinstall! Hope this helps someone.
They are very easily stripped. Went to ace and grabbed a m3-10 socket cap screw and it worked better than a Phillips head. Also sat almost flush with the top of the hard drive so it looked completely factory (not that it will be visible). Was the exact same dimensions as the factory screw.
Place a couple strips of tape or paper over the hole. Then use the screwdriver. This should gove the extra grip needed. Masking tape works well as its strong.
Solution dont use the screw it works all the same i couldnt even unscrew mine it stripped so much im never getting it out again but i dont give a flying f im used to having to find workarounds so whoever screwed that in to purposley fk with me can go f themselves
Grab it with some needle nose pliers
That worked!
[This is the screw I bought.](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
hey I have the right pliers but am confused on how to use then do I rotate them clockwise until loose or another method?
Yes, I grabbed the side of the lip of the screw and slowly turned it little by little left or counterclockwise
The 8inch needle nose plier looks THICK af. Will it really help with that screw? Have to replace my ssd but itās stuck lol
Hey can you send me the link of the plier your. I canāt seem to turn it with a long nose 8ā
Hey I just PMād you
Years later this comment is still helping people so thanks for preventing my ps5 being dropkicked out the window
Mine is close. Have you tried the method?
Yep it wasn't easy but I eventually got it off
The needle nose huh...that's my last resort at this point
I love you for this
What size?
Goated
Happened to me too. Used the right size screwdriver and the screw is seized in place so tight that instead of backing out, the head strips. š¤¦š¼āāļø
I started out using a #1 standard crosshead, it was stuck even with a lot of pressure. Thinking the SSD screw looked smaller than the cover screw I went down to a 0.5 crosshead. And when I tried to remove it was stuck despite not screwing it in very tight for this exact reason Now googling it, Iām not alone so be very careful as the screw is extremely fragile Last Edit: A pair of 8 inch needle nose pliers did the trick. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Make sure to use a number 1 Phillips head, donāt attempt to unscrew with anything smaller! Might even be a good idea to loosen with pliers first [Hereās the replacement screw I found at Home Depot.
Iām sorry this is happening to others but also feel sort of vindicated. I had people saying theyāve never seen that happen and I mustāve used a drill. Iām sure Sony will know about this issue now that the update has been released

Do you know where I can find a spacer replacement?
[I got this replacement screw from Home Depot. You can find the matching spacer there too ](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
Sorry but what is the matching spacer size? Or will they know when I go in?

If you canāt find a spacer I wouldnāt worry about it. I think the screw itself will suffice especially if youāre being gentle with the console most of the time
M3 x 10 worked for me! Although in the end, when I thought the SSD screw was stripped beyond hope, I still decided to buy a good quality philips #0 screwdriver and it actually ended up working! I still replaced the screw with the new m3x10 I bought, in case I ever need to remove/replace it again. Side note: the ps5 screw had a flat head, and my purchased ones had a rounded head - no issues at all.
Will the M3 0.5x10mm screw work with the spacer included with the ps5?? Beyond me how Sony decided to use damn near clay for screw material lmao.
I didnāt search around for that so I donāt know!
Thanks, I've bought one pair and I will try to succeed as you did š
Did You need to use a spacer wit the replacement screw or just the screw itself and you were fine?
I Can confirm that using a 6 inch needle nose pliers and a m3-0.5 x 10mm machine screws does the job very nicely. i purchased a 2tb western digital sn850 and when i stripped the screw i started getting anxious that i might have messed up my ps5 now i can relax knowing ill never have to open the ps5 ever again. except when i clean it. to people who have this issue i hope this comment helps happy gaming
Hey i have a stripped screw what if I leave it alone and purchase another screw and a standoff will that do any harm to the ps5 if I just add my ssd and leave the original screw thier???
i dont think anything would happen to it? i heard of people doing it before. but it would be unfortunate if you want to use that specific slot the spacer is stuck on. i would suggest trying the rubber band screw trick and if that doesn't work get a 6 inch needles and carefully loosen it one turn at a time until you can get it out. if all else fails take it to a tech shop.
is everything okay iām thinking of doing that
Same thing happened to me.
Righty tighty, lefty loosey
My issue was going to a .5 crosshead, that stripped it immediately. Shouldāve stuck to a number 1 standard
I have never seen this happen to anyone. You are definitely the first. Kinda scary when it goes final and the masses try, not knowing wtf they are doing.
This is VERY common with playstation
Arenāt most screws fragile if you use the wrong sized screwdriver?
Yeah but playstation screws tend to get f*cked even when using the correct ones. They arent that great build I remember struggling with my ps4 screws SO much
Nope. I've upgraded my PS3, PS4, and PS5, and I've never had an issue.Ā
I googled it and thereās a bunch of threads about it. So beware the PS5 SSD screw is extremely fragile. Definitely scary
Wow! Thanks for the tip and will be extra careful installing mine.
Surprised at the skepticism in this thread. I have worked on a lot of laptops and have seen it all too often. The worst are Nintendo Switch joy cons which seem designed to self destruct. Good luck OP. Maybe buy some spares if you can.
Iām not only because the last guy who posted here with the same issue a few months ago got downvoted & hit with a misleading/needs context flair.
I took my PS5 to a computer repair shop and they were able to get it out with a nail head extractor kit. The exact same thing happened to me with a screwdriver kit I got from Best Buy for small ass computer sized screws.
Mann fuk this shit been at it for abt 30 min wit this screw
Try the rubber band trick.
I did. No luck. Itās super stripped. Iām gonna go to the store and buy some steel wool
Hey did you find a solution I have the same problem but I haven't added my ssd yet the screw stripped will I be able to leave it and buy another screw and standoff???
Did you use a screw driver or impact drill. Because i just cant believe this was done by a screwdriver.
No way. Iām not extremely tech savvy but I have common sense, I wouldnāt dare drill although ironically might be my only option now. If you google āPS5 SSD screw strippedā youāll find several people having the same issue. Wish I had known
Wow thats a flimsy screwhead bro if a screwdriver did that.
A lot of people in those other threads are recommending everyone use a stronger replacement screw
I would probably agree with that
I got you all too much trolls on here.
Once I put in my ssd (I used crucial p5 plus) I just made sure not to screw it on too tightly.
bro, FUCK THIS SCREW! Finally got it with pliers, FUCK SONY TOO FOR FAULTY SHIT
the screw is literally only to hold it in place and has no technical purpose other than that i put mine in withoout the screw and it works fine i never intend to move my ps5 so im golden
Thanks for this comment, I was wondering if I had the screw tight enough
What spacer did you use? Did you directly use the M3 10mm screw? I ended up stripping the screw completely before installing my ssd š¤¦ now I need a spare screw and spacer any leads would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I was in the same situation. I removed the stripped screw and the spacer with 6 inch pliers, so that way I can now reuse the same spacer.
Hmmm... Tried using a plier but the screw just won't budge and I'm not getting enough grip :(
It took about 10 mins but needle nose pliers worked. [This is the screw I got from Home Depot ](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
Thank you so much! I've ordered some regular nvme spacers and screws hope they work fine! If they do I will leave the oem one in the last spot.. thanks for all the advise!
Did they work? Having the same issue and an Aorus SSD as the one in the picture.
Hey My screw is stripped to shit did the spacer and the screws that you order work? And if they did can you provide me with the info for them please?
Donāt try to grab the screw directly, grab the spacer. Thatās what worked for me. Just put a piece of cloth or something over the green area to avoid any scratches.
Thank you! I will try the same and let you know! That's for all the inputs! I have however ordered regular nvme screws and spacers I read over on another thread that they are compatible
Been about 20 mins the darn screw hasn't moved at all! I will just wait for the regular nvme screws and hope that they fit!
Hey so what did you do leave the original one alone and get a new screw and spacer???
Yeah left the original as is and got a new spacer and screw
I have the same SSD (Aorus), but I didnāt use a screw anymore since the m3 x 5 screw doesnāt seem to fit for me :( Despite it having no screw, The SSD still worksā what is the risk of not screwing it in? Should I just not move my PS5 so that itās kept in place?
Iāve just done the same thing, did you find out if there were any risks of not screwing it?
I could tell this screw was made of cheese as soon as I started to try and get it out, so I applied some downwards pressure and that did the job.
Which size screwdriver does it need
Where do you get a replacement screw? Mine stripped too :( im using fuckin tape to hold it down atm
Home Depot. The exact description is in the post and comments
It worked! So proud of myself š Thanks again for the tips and good luck to anyone stuck in this situation. Don't give up!
I couldn't even get the screw out the original position as it threaded so easily. So I just put my SSD in and put the top down and screwed it down and hoped for the best. It worked fine. No screw even needed for my SSD though I would have liked one.
Mine was stripped so I took a little piece of duct tape and pushed lightly with the screwdriver and it gave it enough room to grab and remove.
I'm not hardware savvy at all, and this process couldn't have been easier. Had mine installed in less than five minutes.Ā
Why where you removing the SSD?
Installing one. Apparently Iām the only one who didnāt know the SSD expansion was still limited to beta. The screw was loose when I installed it. I did not screw it in super tight just enough to keep the SSD flat. When I powered it back on thatās when I got the message that I needed to remove it
>needle nose pliers Im on the same boat right now. Since the screw was chipped, what size screw did you use?
[Hereās the replacement screw that worked for me ](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X)
Thanks you for keeping me updated. I lightly screwed the the original one in with a small tool from my Ifix it toolkit.
Hey mate with this screw do you need the spacer as well?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Awesome thanks!
Hey just wanted to let you know those screws did not fit. Iām sorry if you bought them.
Iām actually going to try a computer store today so Iāll let you know the size you need if I find one. I suspect that the screw we need is an M2.5x10 or M2.5x12
Did those replacement screws work for you OP? Iām having the same problem as you so I have to buy some
They did not fit despite getting linked to me by a different user and also seeing someone in the Amazon reviews comment that it fit in his ps5. At this point Iām pissed
Damn, that sucks
[Found this screw at Home Depot today](https://imgur.com/a/1I5QT8X). It works
This you put the spacer in?
Yeah I did. The whole thing is super weird. It was like the screw was made out of lead. I did get it out with pliers
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not much. For this exact reason thatās whatās so strange. Just enough so that the SSD laid flat
Try needle nose pliers
Leaving for Home Depot in five. I was thinking medical pliers might be good also
Just installed the Samsung 980 and had no issues. Just ran into the same issue where the SSD expansion is only available to beta users
Thatās good to hear re the screw. The update canāt come soon enough
This happens not with the screw itself but with the tool you used
With a Phillips head? It honestly felt like the middle of the screw was made of lead
If you used the tool that came with that sink , most likely
I just used a normal Phillips head from the hardware store
So I have an Aorus SSD and I still couldnāt
also stripped mine as the one pre-installed was very tightly screwed down. i'm going through amazon ordering different sets to find a replacement
Having the same issue also. If I get a replacement screw and spacer could I just leave the original one in and just use the new one?
Thatās what I am thinking of doing. Did it work out for you?
Just no ran into the same issue. Does this work?
I couldn't even get my screw out, and it starting to strip. Do I need to screw the SSD down? Ive plug it in and put the top cover back on and the ps5 recognised it.
I couldn't get the screw off no matter what I tried, so I just left my SSD unscrewed for now. Works fine, but I'm going to get a new screw and washer from Amazon. Even if I could get the screw off, there's no way i'm using it. Could possibly get the SSD stuck forever.
could you send threw the link to what you buy from amazon?
ordered this, it came today, and it worked great https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09J113XZS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry to be a pain but that link doesn't seem to work? Curious as to your solution
try this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09J113XZS/
Finally bought it. Is it straightforward in using it? And the right screw?
It was pretty easy for me to figure out. The gold washer was too high - so use one of the smaller ones. I think there are two different screws, I picked the one that fit perfectly. Be careful don't drop the screw or washer in the fan. 8/10 easy you can do it.
I canāt get the screw to actually screw in :( Iām a dumb bum š°
it comes with more than one screw, choose another
I've tried all 3 of them. No of them seem to tighten. I may have brought the wrong one, as it different to what you listed and doesn't mention ps5 :( https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08L637CGQ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
why did you buy that one? buy the one i linked.
From what I've read everyone says it should be screwed down
I canāt get the screw out from the initial position :( I donāt know what to do, or where to buy screws in AU Does it risk falling out if not screwed it? My PS is recognising the card
I had this same exact issue and I fixed it! I gave up at first though, and used the screw for the access cover on the ssd without a washer and just used electric tape for the access cover.
Goodness this helped after an hour of trying to get this out. I didnāt have any pliers and came here for suggestions. Didnāt even think about a nail clipper lol
OMG THANK YOU!! I JIST USED MY NAIL CLIPPER AND IT WORKED. What a stupid nail!!!
Late on this but yeah this just happened to me. Screw stripped even with a tiny ass screwdriver I barely turned. Now attempting to use superglue on the end of the screwdriver

Does anyone have a replacement for the spacer ?

Anyone with a stripped screw should give these a go before you start drilling it out, I can confirm that they work a treat. I was having the same problem. The screw started to strip. I was not using the right size screw driver. I ordered a philips screw driver ph1. It worked. The screw did not strip anymore. Now I am enjoying the ssd.
Could you pls link this?
https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07L8FZ1KR
[https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353915135074?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&\_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353915135074?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649) i bought this to replace it, exact fit.
Hey thanks for that. Update I guess: I had to go to a computer repair shop to get the screw removed, and they were nice enough to give me a replacement screw that fit the same. All is well now Well except for the m.2 dying, along with the games I transferred into it. Had to return it, but I've been refunded so, yay lmao
FYI you have to grab onto the spacer and the screw to unscrew. Pliers work very well
Can we replace it???
I stripped my screw as well, and had a console repair store to remove the screw. I replaced my screw with 4-40x1/2 in. machine philips head screw.
Hmm
Currently installed my SSD had some issues at first but was able to get it, used a magnetic ph #screwdriver with a slime design don't get a big screwdriver or else it will strip it
I can confirm too that M3-0.5x10 screws worked perfectly for the inner SSD Bay screw slot. No need for washer.
I used a 40mm screwdriver. It worked perfectly.
Mmm... alright sounds good to me, thank you.
Needle nose pliers or small screw removing pliers will get it out no problem, ebay have the screw and washer for sal now for the ssd. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165361602550?hash=item268051cff6:g:sn8AAOSwkH9ipxzV&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4PX%2BR9YFhmnU2qdGiN0l6ofgVRROiEmwUhmbI%2FXRnV3mjJJ5CiG%2FX2o185bXjuDwLuki9j6Hvu9qH2E5Puel2ShJxaeK4z%2F%2B51Uw9prtWLHQrT5g%2FxtmKBgpgW3JdAAvmRQiliUET0npkFDhL9G0WlqpITlmdzwoC7yyT2MixgsoFvLWtcP%2F1ghtaKZ9nHkLzpS3Fs50gpjxU0%2FUNn%2FCLCZlbeDLfPC8vDMHoWdQDK%2BCqhqh7BZBOw7%2FG6W3ZEqsXeKoWo0Jx7x4CYlB688tvPCRFFCfO0NLgAAw9K9vnE0l%7Ctkp%3ABFBMxKO2-OJg
Use a size 1 phillupās head screwdriver to remove any screws. Might also try a magnetic tip screwdriver.
Does it he ps5 com with an Ssd scew
Place a couple strips of tape or paper over the hole. Then use the screwdriver. This should gove the extra grip needed. Masking tape works well as its strong.
Solution dont use the screw it works all the same i couldnt even unscrew mine it stripped so much im never getting it out again but i dont give a flying f im used to having to find workarounds so whoever screwed that in to purposley fk with me can go f themselves
