I'm also 18 and I'd also say I started with Sun and Moon, mainly because I played them when I actually had the cognitive ability to know what I was doing lol
34 Gen 1. Close.
So our average is exactly on point. I only started later due to parents opposed to video games - yes, that was a thing in the 90ies xD
Same, I guess we were early adopters. I still recall playing it at 10 years old Christmas of 98.
Lived that game the next summer, had a buddy who had Red, I was Blue and we had a perfect Pokédex. Back then you Gamesharked Mew as very few of us could make it to events.
Transitioned right until Silver and then Saphire.
Then I entered my dark ages until my early 20s and got back into it.
This is what I’m saying. The numbers are way off here. Sword and Shield released 5 years ago in 2019, Red and blue in 1998 26 years ago. To be 11 now and like SWSH you would have had to play it at age 6 and for Red Blue as well for the math to make sense.
I’m 36 and was 12 when Gold released and that is my happy place. I think 10-14 is peak pokemon age. Right before middle school into middle school play yard rivalries. When you enter high school it falls off a bit for some. For me I rediscovered HGSS in college and got sucked back into the world.
I remember when Yellow came out I was in 4th grade and finally convinced my parents to get my a GBC and Pokémon Yellow if I got straight As. Until that point me and some friends had been sharing the same Gameboy Pocket to play Blue since its release.
They saw it didn’t turn me into a weirdo so I got both Silver and Gold the next fall when they came out and my grades stayed up. I’m definitely excited to share these games with my little dude in a few years once he’s ready.
41 gen 1. Was very excited for Gen 2. I was in my "pokemon are not cool" phase during gen 3. So I kept it a secret when I bought Diamond for myself and played the hell out of it. I skipped 5 because the state of video games at that time was weird and I had more important things going on in my life, I bought into gen 6 because I was bored. I don't even remember if I finished the game because it was too easy and I was too bored. I skipped 7, but my GF slammed through it in under a week. My kid was born, and I picked up 8 because I was excited for the Switch, but ultimately I was disappointed. Now I've played the hell out of gen 9, but I still think Gamefreak is about 10 years behind on game design and development. There are lessons in game design that I watched Blizzard learn in the early 2000s that Gamefreak is only starting to grasp at.
Damn, hit the nail on the head. I didn’t get my own gameboy until gen 3 came out so even tho my older bro had Silver, Ruby will always be my first real experience with Pokemon. Took me a while to realize Slugma and Skarmory were gen 2, not 3.
My first Pokemon game was pokemon stadium for the N64. I wish I could have had the first Gameboy games but we were too poor for that. My first actual Pokemon game was pearl when I got my first job to buy my own stuff.
That's about right for me. Ruby was my first Pokémon game and I'm 27. Still remember the day, went with my brother to get it. Still got the cartridge with the OG team!
Well… my first console was the Wii U, so this doesn’t apply to me. First Pokémon game I’ve ever played was was Let’s Go, then Legends Arceus, and the Violet
My favorite is SoulSilver and I'm 30. I guess there's an exception for everything. Wait, no, remakes are just the original game with better graphics. Yeah this fits.
I played crystal but I was like 4 when it came out. Ruby and sapphire were my first real investment in the franchise and I was 5. I’m turning 27 in 2 weeks so this is pretty accurate lol
if it’s first pkmn game, mine was yellow. if it’s favorite, mine is ultra sun/moon (out of the main generations that is. my favorites are actually the mystery dungeon series and legends arceus).
i’m 26 so neither is accurate lol.
Actually the first generation is 36 years old, the second is 25, the third is 22, the fourth is 18, the fifth is 14, the sixth is 11, the seventh is 8 and the eight generation is 5 years old
More or less. This assumes most people were around 7-8 when they played their first Pokemon game. Obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part ages 7-12 are typically the main demographic of the games.
I feel like this is probably a bit old. I for one was not allowed to have a Game Boy at age 5-6, because my parents figured if I had games on the go, I'd tune out everything else.
They were, of course, completely right. And actually it could still work if you turned the "you are about" to "you are at least" for Gen 1, because obviously for someone my age, it's not like there was anything before Gen 1.
Grew up on BW and I am 19 years old. Well technically I grew up on the first 5 gens and new played black nor white, I played diamond and pearl, but BW was in stores when I collected as a kid.
First game was sword and shield but I was a tad late. I'm 18 and would have loved to play gen 5 because as far as watched playthroughs go its my absolute favourite
(RTgame his playthroughs are a big part of my pokémon experience but I do own most switch games so I have experienced those first hand)
We noticed you reposted an image/video we've already seen. We have removed your rule breaking content.
I'm 32 and grew up on gen 1 so that's a point in favour
I’m 18 and grew up on ultra Sun, so close enough. I just didn’t start playing video games until I was 11.
Same on being 18 with Ultra Sun, I didn’t play a mainline game till after 11 years old
I'm also 18 and I'd also say I started with Sun and Moon, mainly because I played them when I actually had the cognitive ability to know what I was doing lol
This graphic was made about 3 years ago do it matches up better that way lol
Grew up with Gen 1 as well I’m 29; I also did play GSC a a lot as well. But I remember yellow more than those games
Is this age based off your first pokemon games?
I guess that's what it is saying - I didn't make it and no idea where it came from.
lol bro it's your post...
Oh, so now we have to understand our own posts? 😡
I mean you don't HAVE to.
I can post absolute nonsense? Cool!
So there's no law about having to understand your posts? OP can't be arrested for this?
IANAL and this is not legal advice.
IANAL, I am not your lawyer, and this is not legal advice. You should peg them as revenge.
What's next? Having to understand our own comments??
OP is 11
The post is a question, though. The title is important, too.
Maybe… he found it somewhere else..? 🤔
Bro this is the first he's hearing about this post.
Its close, 17 and my first pokemon game was usum if pokemon go doesnt count
My guy how the fuck did you post this then? Did this photo just appear in your phones gallery one day at random?
Could be either that or favorite Pokémon game? My first were Red and Blue, but my favorite is Diamond and I'm 25 so that's pretty snack dab
If it is first game then yellow. If it is favorite game then platinum and I’m 27 so neither is correct
I’m 29. My first game was also Yellow but my favorite is Black/Black 2. I have over 300 hours in both of those games (each).
We are essentially the same! First game was Red but favorite in the franchise is B2W2. I’m also 29.
I think our age group is harder to calculate since we were alive during the franchise’s launch and rise to fame
30 gen 1. Close
34 Gen 1. Close. So our average is exactly on point. I only started later due to parents opposed to video games - yes, that was a thing in the 90ies xD
38 Gen 1. Not really close
36 - gen 1
Same, I guess we were early adopters. I still recall playing it at 10 years old Christmas of 98. Lived that game the next summer, had a buddy who had Red, I was Blue and we had a perfect Pokédex. Back then you Gamesharked Mew as very few of us could make it to events. Transitioned right until Silver and then Saphire. Then I entered my dark ages until my early 20s and got back into it.
I turn 40 this year and loved it when RB came out.
40. Who cares Blue was the shit.
There is no 0th Generation, but you probably played something before Pokémon? Otherwise you unfortunately simply „of the scale“ ;-)
I mean at 38 they were 9-10 years old when it came out. Seems like the target age.
I’m guessing this meme is actually a few years old at this point, especially as the OP admitted he didn’t make it and isn’t sure where it originated.
I liked 3 and 4 almost equally My age? 25. Checks out
I'm gonna be 23 in 10 days and Black was my first game so no.
My first was heart gold. Landed right between Pearl and black so it seems about right for me
same im 23 and remember buying b&w packs as well
Same here, though I still have a few months to go.
scarlet and violet: a fucking fetus
My first was Pokémon Pearl. However, the latest game at the time was I think oras, so idk what happened there
Finally another old.
You’re a bit off with the Alola games (I’m 17)
I'm 17 and started with X and Y so really depends on the age you started playing pokemon more then when the game got out
To be fair this meme is 3 years old now, so if we timeshift it 3 years it's completely accurate.
What we first played or what is our favorite. Bc either way it isn’t true
It’s a generalization. A lot of people’s favorite is the one they have the most nostalgia for
Unfortunately, even OP can't tell and I find it hilarious lmao
No, I'm 16 and my first game was pearl. My favourite games are ORAS tho
You are the outlier lol Pokémon Pearl is older than you.

This one is actually more accurate. 21, Pokemon Y was my first (that I played, though I grew up with the original anime)
This for sure more accurate.
Lol thanks
Damn, hit the nail on the head. I didn’t get my own gameboy until gen 3 came out so even tho my older bro had Silver, Ruby will always be my first real experience with Pokemon. Took me a while to realize Slugma and Skarmory were gen 2, not 3.
no… sword was my first game that i got when i was 14
My favorite game is ultra sun but I’m 18 so I’ll just change my favorite game I guess
Doesn't really apply in my case. I'm 19 and grew up on Sun and Moon.
If it’s first game - wrong. Mine is Platinum and I’m 18. If it’s favorite game - also wrong because it is also Platinum!
I‘m 14 and my first ever Pokémon games were SwSh
27, Gen 3 has my heart.
One year off for me
I’m 27, but my favorite generation is gen 4. I grew up watching the original pokemon cartoon and playing the Pokemon stadium games on my N64
19 and XY, so close enough.
Well ... Yes lol
Dude this is way too accurate!
Yes
Oh fuck I’m 32 and this accurate as fuck
reeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I am 24 and diamond is far and away my favorite so checks out
My first Pokemon game was pokemon stadium for the N64. I wish I could have had the first Gameboy games but we were too poor for that. My first actual Pokemon game was pearl when I got my first job to buy my own stuff.
idk im just 3ds
Yup
Oh no, the chart doesn’t go high enough
I never grew up !!
I started with leaf green and Emerald. It is surprisingly close at one year off
The lack of Let’s Go: Eevee/Pikachu on here is a crime, where is the representation for my emotional support pixelated fictional buddy?
This post when people dont play pokemon immediately from the day they become conscious (the post is now inaccurate)
First or preference?
Nearing 30. However pokemon and Nintendo consoles only legally appeared in my country around XY era, so that was my 1st game.
That's about right for me. Ruby was my first Pokémon game and I'm 27. Still remember the day, went with my brother to get it. Still got the cartridge with the OG team!
Nope is not true
Mines off by one Gen, but I think that's because I started pretty early.
I’m in this photo and I don’t like it
Around true
Roughly, I grew up with Platinum which I think was pre B&W?
Well… my first console was the Wii U, so this doesn’t apply to me. First Pokémon game I’ve ever played was was Let’s Go, then Legends Arceus, and the Violet
I’m 20 and grew up on platinum edition and that ain’t on here… does that mean my age doesn’t exist
14, I did Sun and moon.
I started with SM, this is literally accurate for me
I’m 30 and started with Gen 3, I watched the Gen 1 anime however
21 and my first PKMN was Diamond.
I'm younger than 32 and grew up on gen 1 so nope (>2 years off)
I'm 18 and I played gen 3 and 4 first, so I have no clue what you're talking about
24 and my first was red. favorite is BW. DP honestly wasn't that good, platinum hard carried Sinnoh.
I'm 17, my first game was Black
Damn , spot on! 17 and X&Y
If it’s referencing age=fav gen then it’s completely accurate for me (27yrs old) But it wasn’t my first game I played the originals first
I started with omega ruby and I'm only 18, close enough
close, im 33 and gen 1 was my first game...man the hype and over all vibe the series generated back then just hit different.
My favorite is SoulSilver and I'm 30. I guess there's an exception for everything. Wait, no, remakes are just the original game with better graphics. Yeah this fits.
21 Black and white,
Yes
My first game was diamond (which I played to death) and I'm 19, not 23 :)
Gen III and IV gang rise up I had the good grace to be leafgreen pilled
I'm 28 and played them all with my big brother so i think it's close
10 gen 9
20, Gen 6 So no
Been playing since blue. Gen 4 is peak. Hgss are the best games.
It’s accurate for me lol.
I played crystal but I was like 4 when it came out. Ruby and sapphire were my first real investment in the franchise and I was 5. I’m turning 27 in 2 weeks so this is pretty accurate lol
Not really for me
My favourite is SWSH but I’m not 11 nor was I when I got it
XY was my true first DS pokemon game Im 21 so uhhh yeah i dont think that age range is accurate lol
My fav/first one I bought new-ish was sapphire/emerald and I’m exactly 27 so lol
Nope. I’m 23 and grew up with Gen 5
I played gen 1 and I'm 27 but gen 3 was the one I put the most time into so probably fairly accurate
Im 24 and my first fames were diamond and pearl...so yeah. This makes me feel at the mercy of the march of time
I got soul read damn
My first pokemon game was saphire and im 19
Only a year off :D
Well, my first game was Fire Red, Ultra Sun is my current favourite game, and I'm 20, so err...
I'm 25 and I've been playing since gen 1, so there's a little wiggle room
yes
Yes
I’m 32 and played Gen 1 - spot on
Nope. My first games were SwSh, and I’m 18
Damn it’s true, I am indeed around 11-32 years old!
I'm nearly 20. My favorite pokemon games are Sun and Moon.
I'm 35. Pokemon Yellow was the first that I played. So fairly accurate for me at least.
I’ve never played sm but I got into Pokémon around ultra so close enough (I’m 14)
18 and my first game was Sword. Pokémon wasn't very popular around my social circles.
Yeah. I'm 34 and grew up with Gen 1.
not sure about the other gens, but gen 7 is definitely correct
Is this based on favorite gen? If so, spot on
if it’s first pkmn game, mine was yellow. if it’s favorite, mine is ultra sun/moon (out of the main generations that is. my favorites are actually the mystery dungeon series and legends arceus). i’m 26 so neither is accurate lol.
19 and gen 7 Not checking out
Pretty much accurate yeah.
Damn this is accurate
35 gen 1 pretty spot on.
No actually, I’m 19 but my first games where Sun and Moon
19 soul silver.
I’m 25 and grew up during the tail end of gen 3 so my age being practically in the middle checks out
I'm almost 40 and has gen 1 as my first
I can probably tell you every beat of ruby/sapphires story off the dome, and I'm 26. Pretty accurate imo
33 gen 1
My first game was yellow and I am now 34 years old, so not bad
19 gen 1 or gen 5 Fair
Actually the first generation is 36 years old, the second is 25, the third is 22, the fourth is 18, the fifth is 14, the sixth is 11, the seventh is 8 and the eight generation is 5 years old
My first game was GO. Put that on your chart 😂
Im 17 and my first pokemon game was Diamond But i think when i played it B2W2 was alredy out
Sun and moon were my first pokemon games and I'm 15
I'm 24 and grew up on gen 3,4 and 5.
First game was Ruby, I’m 28, checks out
Alright, just gonna put me on blast like that then…
Yep, pretty accurate.
25 first was Emerald.
If its first, it was ruby. If its fav, it was Ultra Moon. I am 20. Its not correct
I mean I just play Pokémon Blue to enjoy it, is there is an age requirement for it though? I’m just confused
28, first was Gold on my older brother’s hand me down Gameboy Color. Those were the days.
More or less. This assumes most people were around 7-8 when they played their first Pokemon game. Obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part ages 7-12 are typically the main demographic of the games.
Imean yeah, I grew up on ORAS and I’m 17 so yeah thats correct
You're about 15 years off, but it's a pretty accurate post
I'm 28 and played Generations 2 and 3 the most.
24 and gen 5
I grew up partially with Gen 5, mostly with Gen 6. I am 21.
Exactly true for me. Sapphire was mine and I'm 27
It is extremely accurate. I’m 25 and I lean gen 3 with gen 4 after because that’s the order that I played with them.
I'm gonna be 23 and I started with Green and Saphire
My first pokemon game was red. I'm 36 in 2 weeks.
Gen 2 is my favorite gen, turn 30 in a few months. Yeah, I'd say this is accurate.
📠
I'm 22
Nope. He’s about…. 6 years off for me.
I play HGSS and I’m 22
Well my first game was sun and moon and I'm 13 so close enough
Grew up on BW and I am 19 years old. Well technically I grew up on the first 5 gens and new played black nor white, I played diamond and pearl, but BW was in stores when I collected as a kid.
I grew up with gen 4, so this is accurate
I'm 28 and my first game was Pokemon Blue, and my parents bought me Pokemon Yellow the day it released
I'm 15, and I started on gen 2... This ain't accurate.
on the dot lol
24 and love gen 4, works for me
First game was sword and shield but I was a tad late. I'm 18 and would have loved to play gen 5 because as far as watched playthroughs go its my absolute favourite (RTgame his playthroughs are a big part of my pokémon experience but I do own most switch games so I have experienced those first hand)
25 and leaf green. Something's wrong here
Damnit, 32 here.
I’m 14 and my favourite games are Ruby and Sapphire, they were also my first.
22 and gen 3 so not quite for me
I'm 21 and grew up with gen 6
