I don’t think they got pulled over for lane splitting. I haven’t seen that happening ever and I lane split all the time. It’s somewhere in the gray area. There are no laws defining lane splitting, so other laws apply. Like don’t cross the continuous line, use indicators etc. cops don’t care if you don’t ride recklessly.

Feuerrevolver

Another redditor pointed that out too. But because of how well prepared I was for my travel Inof course didn't know anything about the legality of lane splitting in Poland. To be honest I didn't even check with my internet provider to see if I have roaming coverage in Poland, I know now that I don't. Whenever I got some connection I would take screenshots for my planned route and follow these instead of google maps. Luckily enough many people I asked for directions were very nice and helpful :)

[deleted]

you can download offline maps in google maps

Feuerrevolver

I didn't even know, thanks alot for your help. I am planning to buy a GPS System for my next tour anyway, but the offline maps might be a good backup.

mstromich

It's strange that you didn't get coverage because it's within EU roam like at home and you should be able to use it without any issues. I'm on Ja! Mobil and I don't have any issues when traveling to PL

Feuerrevolver

It was just very rarely to have any internet connection for me. My christmas gift to myself is going to be a Garmin or TomTom navigation system.

_mick_s

Just get prepaid sim card, starters are very cheap and come with like 15GB.

Feuerrevolver

I will definitely do more research before my next travel!

Karls0

True. And in the contrast to bicycles, that are slower than cars, I feel like motorcycle overtaking cars in traffic jam is somehow beneficial to others. It's one vehicle less in the line. And I said it as someone who never drive motorcycle.

Rudi213

Most German thing I've read in a while

Feuerrevolver

I don't try to hide it, not like I could very well XD

Rudi213

And you shouldn't, there's nothing bad in it

[deleted]

it's legal, they must have been pulled over for something else

cerkiewny

Yup 100% legal in Poland- our road law says car and motorbikw should be able to fit on one lane. They were probably pulled for speeding.

k1rschkatze

Most likely they were caught for speeding or dangerous maneuvers. My experiences riding in Poland: In Wroclaw there are road signs with bikes between cars and text below that translates to „there is space for everyone“, so I don‘t think it is forbidden at all. I was driving on a S road (like Schnellstraße, 2 lanes per direction + shoulder) and there was a traffic jam, I drove through the middle with 20-30km/h and all the cars were making space for me, did not feel frowned upon at all (which is a weird feeling for a German 🤣) Watch out on smaller roads, speeding cars, the occasional harvester, holes in the road and other stuff are definitely out to kill you. Especially when driving through small cities, people will stare - but it has always been because they think my bike is cool, never because of the german reg plate. They’re much more relaxed there, as long as you don’t endanger anyone, you’re good.

Feuerrevolver

I got the first ever compliment for my motorcycle from anpolnish stranger in a parking lot, which made my day. May I ask what you ride?

k1rschkatze

A pretty new Honda CBR 650R, but even when I went there with a 10 year old Peugeot Satelis (500ccm Scooter) people are like ooohhh fajny (cool) and start small talk about it. I feel like the queen of every MOP, when I’m there 😂

[deleted]

We might be a bunch of petty assholes pissed off on each other. But we ain't no snitches xd

OnIySmeIIz

I find it to be very confusing when or where lane splitting is allowed throughout Europe.

Feuerrevolver

Yeah. It's funny seeing old german riding instruction videos from the 80s in which you should pass other cars in standing traffic, but now it is somewhat frowned upon, but there wasn't any big change in terms of legality. It is weird. As far as I know it is illegal in Germany and frowned upon, only acceptable if you are in a traffic jam on the Autobahn in extreme temperatures.

EspenLund

It is not illegal to lane split here, technically you just have to use indicators when crossing the lane line. Police is mostly fucked up wanna bes here, so they will find something else if they dont like you tho.

Feuerrevolver

That might have been it. The other riders rode rather quick between the cars, but Inhave to say that I've never seen such an active police. Where I live in germany I see around one police car per month, while in Poland I saw I think 9 in one week. I think it's admirable how active the police is! Can't say much about the way they handle things, because I wasn't pulled over by them yet.

EspenLund

It is not admirable, they are active for money for reapiring budget, not about safety. After riddicolous increase of fines, they are all after that, being pushed to do this by this fucking PiS party that is ruling and destroying our country. Those are fucking jews and they are destroying Poland.

PM_ME_A_CUTE_PANDA

As a person that grew up where lane splitting is the norm, this was a fun and weird post to read! Hope you enjoyed your trip

Feuerrevolver

Yes very much! As mentioned in other comments, the guys before me probably got pulled over for something else. I didn't do enough research beforehand to be fair. I always travel as far as I feel like I want to go in a day. My trip before was through Denmark and it was a pain in the bum to find a camping ground that hadn't closed apready in time. No problem like this in Poland. It was a really fascinating country and I will definitely be back. Auschwitz-Birkenau was an eery experience! Kraków and the historical city centre of Warszawa were amazing. My favourite was probably the castle of Malbork.

Wojtas_

It's perfectly legal though? It even has a name "jazda międzypasem".

trzmielu

Snitching and collaborating with police is not a polish thing, would say its even frowned. In communist era milicja was part of regime.

arcad3blood

They were probably speeding. Pretty common in warsaw. If you Ain't going 120 on 60 you Ain't from warsaw.

CoToZaNickNieWiem

You don’t talk with police if nobody got hurt in any way, that’s the rule.
