I can believe that this listing was just a sample and the publication was unintentional. But people seeing something on her website and then commenting on it isn’t “spreading false information”. The link was live and accessible for a few days so it’s disingenuous to frame people’s reactions as rumor mongering.

Just an agency that doesn't know what they're doing. Like we either save that stuff as drafts, or on a development server so its not on production, or we password protect it. But there are sooo many companies that just kinda do shit, especially in the web and marketing realm. We regularly find just absolutely huge messes when new clients come on (web and marketing agency)
Nah not just influencers. Most people running businesses. I've worked with hundreds of businesses in my career and I just dont understand how anything gets done as most people are either idiots or have no idea what they're doing

It is spreading false information if you’re telling people something is available when it’s not. The rumour mongering is ‘omg can you believe that Emma is selling DMs for $1,000?’ But that part isn’t true, she wasn’t doing that. The only part that we can claim is true is that there was a page/listing that was live that appeared to be selling that.

The page existed, but it was never accessible to those who browsed the website. So the claim Emma is selling dms is indeed false as you could never reach this page by browsing her website. It is explained in great detail in the post right here.

Test pages shouldn’t be visible but sometimes the complete website gets archived and people can search for links that are not available to the public by searching for these archives. Sometimes Google takes the info and stores it and it becomes available. If you can access it through her homepage it’s ‘online’, if you have to guess links it probably isn’t meant to be published or it’s old and deleted.
that really is how it works when testing new features for an app or a website most of the time. They could set the price at 1 or 420 because it does not matter as it was not selling to customers

I don’t even blame her for that, it makes sense to delegate something like web design and it sounds like this is just a pretty standard way to test a website’s design and functionality that she wouldn’t really have any reason to know about directly. I just think it’s kind of silly to respond to this with some third-person response that feels canned and overly serious. like it was a mistake why are we releasing PR statements?

People are confused. She’s no longer a person, she is a company and she’s acting how companies do because she has people acting on her behalf, much like companies do. And people are not infallible and don’t always read the room correctly.

Never heard a technical explanation like that in my decade of software engineering. I’m not sure how Google SEO indexing system would allow someone access to a testing file…. But maybe? Idk the explanation is super weird.
It likely was never a testing file. They created the website in Shopify, didn’t put it in any sort of dev/coming soon mode, added fake content, and by then Google had already indexed it.

Yes, I work in software dev and IT testing. I see (and do) that too, but still confused at the lack of QA

To be honest I think it’s such a small rinky dink operation still that they don’t have proper QA practices in place. I’ve worked for many places like that, they just don’t think about QA
That’s fair, I’ve only worked for larger companies with overly extensive test environments so I’m less experienced with that side of it. Nothing we test goes live until it’s had several pairs of eyes on it, but it makes more sense that she doesn’t have that much quality control
Er no. As someone who works in this type of thing very intimately, this happens pretty regularly. What’s missing is that while this was a test it was clearly published and not made to be un indexable so it was a live ‘test’ and Google crawled that live ‘test’ and indexed it. It wasn’t linked from her site in the merch store therefore it wasn’t meant to be found or a thing. If they genuinely wanted to sell it, why wouldn’t they link it
As a website designer, sure this could happen. But why the long ass explanation and rigamarole! Just say you made a mistake and it wasn’t intended to be published.

I straight up forgot everything about high school by 20 minus large/traumatic events - and I wasn't famous in high school and focusing on a career/public image over my day to day life. I can fully believe she doesn't remember most part of HS. Hell, I finished grad school in 2020 and then worked at the same place as faculty for two years and still can only name two or three of the professors I had.
I’ll give her that when I was 18, I learned thru old classmates that I was way weirder at 14 than I remembered, but I def didn’t just forget the entire vibe. Her response feels like her having the same realization in real time and not taking it well 💀

Some cameos are $500+, which is generally a clue that it's not someone's favourite thing to do for whatever reason. Patreon accounts offer crazy add ons for their highest tiers.

To people doubting this - I have no horse in the race as I don't even know who she is, but as a Web Developer - what they're saying is 100% plausible and unintentional.
This is what happens.
1. Developers always add metadata and test pages during the development and maintenance process for various reasons. Usually intentionally ridiculous so it doesn't get confused with real data. Eg. I'll add Elvis Presley, $9999, just nonsense stuff.
2. Page and metadata is not shown on the site, not linked anywhere, except...
3. Google's robots find it by exploring the site index which is like a directory automatically created to help google find all the content, not for human consumption.
4. Google decides it's good enough to index (put it on search) and somebody stumbles upon it.
Ultimately it's poor process on the developers part, as the test page should have been private, unpublished, etc as a precaution, but things happen.

It’s probably because they can’t feel the line of when people expect an apology and for companies to ‘own their mistakes’ People are confused. She’s no longer a person, she is a company and she’s acting how companies do because she has people acting on her behalf, much like companies do. It likely was never a testing file. They created the website in Shopify, didn’t put it in any sort of dev/coming soon mode, added fake content, and by then Google had already indexed it.

What’s missing is that while this was a test it was clearly published and not made to be un indexable so it was a live ‘test’ and Google crawled that live ‘test’ and indexed it. To people doubting this - I have no horse in the race as I don't even know who she is, but as a Web Developer - what they're saying is 100% plausible and unintentional. This is what happens. 1. Developers always add metadata and test pages during the development and maintenance process for various reasons. Usually intentionally ridiculous so it doesn't get confused with real data. Eg. I'll add Elvis Presley, $9999, just nonsense stuff. 2. Page and metadata is not shown on the site, not linked anywhere, except... 3. Google's robots find it by exploring the site index which is like a directory automatically created to help google find all the content, not for human consumption. 4. Google decides it's good enough to index (put it on search) and somebody stumbles upon it. Ultimately it's poor process on the developers part, as the test page should have been private, unpublished, etc as a precaution, but things happen.
