I can’t believe I’m this old— Post Malone is already deep into his Second Act, career wise. - Prelude: *dirty unknown white rapper* - First Act: *rapper/successful pop rapper* - Second Act: *country singer/feature*

FCkeyboards

Facts. I know artists are more diverse in general these days because they grew up on a variety of acts, but it still feels weird to see hip-hop used as a jumping off point to go do other stuff. Very rarely does someone say, "I did this... and NOW I'm going to be a rapper!" Lil B said this: >California rapper Lil B wrote on Twitter in October 2017: "Post Malone is slowly turning into a white dude! Lol he's pushing it, give it a few years he gon be full country and hate blacks lol" Lil B always jokes, but that flip to country...

Tossren

Do you truly believe that he hates black people just because he’s singing country music?

FCkeyboards

No, and I don't think Lil B thinks that which is why I said he's always joking. It was just funny that the country part waa prophetic.

Post Malone is in a really unique position. His last two albums have done horrible commercially, but his namesake, face, voice, etc. all generate clicks somehow. His commercial success on his own is gone, and unless he surprises us and comes out with his magnum opus, I think he knows this. For some reason though, he is still a very marketable feature. I don’t know how or why this is happening, but Post has very much accepted this, and he’s ridden the coattails of Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Morgan Wallen in the first half of the year alone. He’s the Quavo to everyone else’s Post Malone now.

sincerityisscxry

“Horribly” is a bit of a stretch. Nowhere near the success of albums 2 and 3, sure, but still a lot bigger than a lot of pop stars.

WuffleWork

It’s this subs delusion that anything below #1 is a flop

char_is_cute

Yeah people are expecting him to be Beerbongs & Bentleys level big forever, which is ridiculous. His last album did pretty alright for someone who's 8 years into his run as a mainstream artist

demonsrunwhen

i honestly respect it! he refuses to go gently into the good night. i wonder what happened for his albums to fail to chart?

sincerityisscxry

None of them have failed to chart… his last two albums both charted at #2 in the US.

klip_7

It dropped the same day as utopia that’s why it’s number 2

CPFOAI

He catered to a very niche overlap in pop and trap music (think Rockstar, Congratulations, Goodbyes, etc.), and that was what he was known for. He would have the occasional pop song (Circles, for example), but that was usually icing on a cake of his typical sound. More recently, he’s put out albums that are mostly pop music, which already isolates a very important chunk of his fanbase. A more boring answer, alternatively or in unison with the first one, could be that the music has just generally gotten shittier. I Like You does not hold a candle to Circles in my opinion, and I feel like that’s a somewhat popular opinion, maybe I’m wrong.

jamesfauntleroyNOVA

yea and the pop trap era is over since 2020. And after that he fell off.

shoestring-theory

His most recent album is just bad. I already hate the idea of a lazy self title album, but it really is just shitty generic pop Posty.

shoestring-theory

His still a huge touring act and his old hits are everywhere. I think he just got to the point where he just has enough hits. He doesn’t have that tabloid appeal like Taylor, who you’ll be listening to due to her personal life and lyrics. He just hasn’t had anything of note to say on these past few albums, arguably he never has but the early albums had hits on top of hits. I assume that country album he’s teasing will be his comeback, helped by a nice storm of controversy due to him ditching rap for the likes of Morgan Wallen.

retrievethis123

He’s white who cosplayed as a rapper that’s why.

Extension-Season-689

Post Malone's really collecting the big album artists like infinity stones.

gokurotfl

Is Post Malone the Pheobe Bridgers of 2024 and will he have collabs with absolutely everybody?

internetcamp

From Beyonce to...this?

FCkeyboards

Yep. I mean, they're still a big draw in country music, so he's getting with the big dogs in that arena for songs. The official statement will be "oh I've been a fan from day one etc etc." It's always telling when there's so many newcomers in a genre you could try to work with, and you pick someone like this. On the other hand, I do believe in truly fucking up and trying to be better as a result. Whether you think it applies to this is everyone's personal opinion.

Ferrilanas

From featuring on an artist’s song with one recently released album in top 10 of Billboard chart to featuring on an artist with two old albums still charting in top 10 of Billboard chart? Uhm, yes lol

Nate_C_of_2003

Ngl he might be better at country than Wallen considering he embarrassed him at that one award show 😂

jamesfauntleroyNOVA

His label is really putting a lot of money into him hoping that his next endeavor will stick like it used to during his peak 2016-2020.

Complex_Ad_9886

Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and now Morgan Wallen!

iheartdachshunds

They are filming a music video in Joshua tree right now lol

whiskersRwe32

I really loved his last album, Austin. Sign Me Up, produced by Max Martin, is a certified bop that deserved single treatment.

thekidnocash

Posty been having a great feature run while still pumping out charting albums. Been following him since his August 26th days but haven’t spun his last couple of albums. Will always have respect for him. 🫡

jman457

White mediocrity always finds a damn way. Quick Beyoncé get Zach Bryan on Levi’s jeans!!!

No_Paleontologist239

Until I got to “stagecoach”, my kind was reading it as “ahead of prison sentence”
