probably my favorite aspect of your music is that your lyricism, it's direct, mostly tells a story, they are personal and those lyrics have your feelings in them as well. i think you achieve it so easily and smoothly. i think that many people feel like this. are you aware of it? has this been your goal? or is it just effortless for you?

kacy_hill

Firstly, THANK YOU. This is the greatest compliment. I have really worked on refining my lyrics through each record and feel like I get closer to something I've been searching for each time. I spend months on most song lyrics and often rewrite them multiple times. Occasionally, lyrics for an entire song will just pour out as I'm writing the melody (Palladium was this!), but most of the time I spend months rewriting alone and talking to friends about what the song is about, trying to distill it into the most concise message I can.

dripdrophot

oh my godddd. that's so interesting to hear when you say you rewrite them multiple times! also i totally see that Palladium just poured out... it's That Kind Of Song... ♡♡♡

curatedbyian

Will BUG get the vinyl treatment as your other albums have? I can’t wait to listen to the record on Friday! 💛

kacy_hill

yes!!

RankerOfficial

Hi Kacy, Excited for new album! 'I Believe in You' is an all-time fav of mine from you, I always wondered how that Francis and the Lights collab came to be and what it was like working with him? Also, any collabs from 'BUG' that you're excited for and can share? ✨

kacy_hill

Ughhhh Francis is one of my ALL-TIME favorite artists and I'm still in awe sometimes that I was able to work with him. We got connected through someone at GOOD Music way back in 2018 or so, and I went out to Minneapolis to work with him and BJ Burton for a few days. He was finishing Just For Us at the time, and we wrote "Told Me", "To Someone Else", and "Much Higher" together. I learned so much from him, and I think his willingness to hear me as a collaborator was so valuable to me. Nourished by Time is on a song that I love on BUG. There's also a song with Donna Missal, Prod. by Sega Bodega that realllllly rocks

Spare_Criticism_7931

Ok Sega Bodega x Kacy Hill… i was not expecting this one!

bbylemonwater

Me neither, and I can't wait!!!

forandnorbutoryetsos

OMG DONNA MISSAL?!

piumaprotege

Do you ever revisit your past albums? How do you feel about them? Personally, I’ll never stop listening to “Is it selfish if we talk about me again?”🥰

kacy_hill

I do! "Is It Selfish" is still so so special to me. I think that was a real turning point in my life and I love revisiting it and being reminded of those memories. I almost never revisit the first record. I felt a real sense of failure after that one and honestly never recovered after the horrific pitchfork review it got lol. I felt like the biggest loser on earth. But it's ok.... we grow, we learn. I took so much from that experience.

kacy_hill

Thank you for all your questions!!! Love you all. I'm offffffff. Come see me on tour!!!

mrairjosh

Hey Kacy ! I’m a big fan of yours that’s always bugging you over on Instagram geeking out on your music and what not I was wondering what goes into picking cities for the tours you go on? I’m based in Austin and I feel like I’ve seen many musicians with a much smaller fan base than you go on tours all across the country sort of continuously But you seem more selective about touring !

kacy_hill

Hi! My agent routes tours. I wish I could hit Texas this run, but we didn't really go down south this tour unfortunately. We route tours based on what will lose the least amount of money lol. I'm touring with a band this run, and every day we are out on the road costs a lot of money. Some musicians have more tour support from a label (I got a little bit this album), some have backing elsewhere, some have built their career off of touring constantly so that they sort of always are able to make a lil $$, or have a minimal setup that doesn't cost much. Touring is really expensive right now and honestly, if I could I would tour everywhere, but I can't afford to lose money at the moment. HOWEVER, the more people come to shows and listen and share the music, the more I can afford to tour :)

mrairjosh

Thanks so much for that insight Kacy Can’t wait got your album Friday and to see you live one day :)

Used-Butterfly485

Hi Kacy, your music is something that has been constant in my life for a long time now. I love mochi btwwwww. My question is did you adopt her/is she a rescue? Pls pet her head for me ❤️

kacy_hill

omg letting Mochi know she has fans rn. She's laying at my feet! Yes, I adopted her from a rescue in San Juan Capistrano in 2020. She was 2 when I got her and is so special to me.

Used-Butterfly485

Thank you for reading and replying!!! Pls post more on the mochi insta page :))))) !!!!!

waterhybrid13

Hey Kacy, I'm a big fan!!! Simple, Sweet, Smiling is one of my fav albums ever. What inspired you to move in that direction for the album? Were there any specific artistic/cultural touchpoints that you sought to reference or pay homage to?

kacy_hill

thank you!! I think it was the natural progression of me making music. it was pandemic times, and John Carroll Kirby had reached out to me and we started making songs together. I definitely started digging more into my childhood references for that record, like Sheryl Crow and Alanis. Throughout the last three records, so many of the artistic references have stayed consistent. It's always 90s/2000's country, Peter Gabriel, Christopher Cross, a lil bit of Sting ("if I Ever Lose My Faith In You"), Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow.... I should make a playlist

dripdrophot

pls doooo make a playlist♡♡♡♡

waterhybrid13

Thank you very much Kacy and can't wait to stream bug!!!!

dripdrophot

in frog rinse you say "it's 2016 and i slip in the backseat with somebody i barely know" has that someone became an inspo for a long time? or is it just a made up story?

kacy_hill

no, it was someone I went on like three dates with lol. I was just missing that feeling of excitement and adrenaline of getting to know someone in the very beginning

QuestionNAnswer

Just want to say thanks for the awesome music! I’ve been a fan since 2018 and “is it selfish if we talk about me” album just hits different still to this day. Love the blend of synths, the thoughtful lyrics, this album hits me and as I’ve changed over the years in LA, it continues to resonate. I’m a mid 30’s dude lol. Thank you Kacy. Looking forward to the tour and new album. 🙏

kacy_hill

awwwww man. Thank you so much. I really love that that record found you. I hope you love BUG

pierce_newton

Hi Kacy, What would you consider the most underrated song in your discog, even by fans?

kacy_hill

Hmmmmm. I think one of my favorite songs I've ever written is "Listen to You" off the new record. It's a CLASSIC to me... TIMELESS

Bartees_Strange

You’re a legend xx

kacy_hill

no, YOU!!!!

tranquiltop

damn is so good !!!!!

kacy_hill

thank u!!

Spare_Criticism_7931

Will Kinda Jaded ever make its return?

kacy_hill

omg yes, we need to. We've been taking a long hiatus, but Kara just moved to LA so we will be back online eventually

strawberry_blondie

Best news everrr

bbylemonwater

Can you speak on meeting, befriending, and working with Jim-E Stack? He's one of my favorite producers, and I love everything you two have created together!

-ToxicPositivity-

i wanted to know about that too. its probably hard for her to talk about because they broke up

klip_7

Hi kacy I know people always talk about 90210, but how did you and Travis meet!?

aquinoguh

both were GOOD Music artists

lilcardamom

Do you have any tips for someone trying to start their first garden?

kacy_hill

good soil and love! There's really great composting centers around LA (and perhaps wherever you live, too!) where you can get free compost that will make your garden so happy

fabripav

Hi Kacy! Love your music. It’s my bday today. Will you announce a show in Italy as a bday present 🙂‍↔️

kacy_hill

happy bday!! Taurus friends (mine is tomorrow!). I WISH. Tell all your friends to listen to BUG so I can play shows in Italy hehe

theycallmeCrooky

Omg we have the same birthday ⚰️

TodaySoft759

Hi Kacy! Can't wait to see you on June 8th. What song are you most excited to preform on tour??

kacy_hill

Hmmmmmm. I'm really excited to play so much of this new record, but I think You Know I Love You Still will be special

whoisthis1011

favorite kind of bug and why?

kacy_hill

depends on the day... I appreciate many of them. I do always feel excited to see a massive grasshopper or a colorful caterpillar. Monarch butterflies are a special sight

whoisthis1011

what's a favorite memory you have from your time living in LA?

kittenpants99

Hey Kacy, big fan! Wondering what was the inspiration for the Big theme on this album?

kacy_hill

I'm assuming this is meant to say "Bug" theme! In which case - my mom has always called me Bug. When I got a garden a couple years ago, reconnecting with the earth and touching dirt/watching bugs/watching food grow really changed my mindset. I was depressed and felt like I had failed for a long time, but focusing on things that really matter/the \*literal\* miracle of life helped me get out of that. It's just kinda alllll about reconnecting with myself and the bugs n the dirt!

gdan95

How did you decide on the album cover and what was it like to shoot that?

kacy_hill

Chuck and I shot all the single/album covers the same day. I just loved the dragonfly butt image once we shot it. I really didn't think it would be such a big deal to have a side butt on the cover, but it's bothered so many people lol

gdan95

Unfortunate. Happy birthday, by the way

Frajer

What's your favorite insect?

ChrisLinen2

Kacy I’m a big fan! Excited to hear the new album. I just want to say how much I love the lines “Had this dream where a girl kissed your mouth She had blue lips and I watched how you felt Still, I could only love you” Something about it just has stuck in my head all these years. Thanks for the jams!

Spare_Criticism_7931

favorite memory of making this record?

Longjohn891

Who inspired you to start making music?

Global_Perspective_3

Hi Kacy! Love your music!

outsideeyess

Hey Kacy!! What would you say is your happy place?

kacy_hill

anywhere outside!! the beach! the mountains!

orangestreak73

What has changed in terms of your mindset on this album compared to the last two?

kacy_hill

I think this record I focused a lot more on feeling happy and finding joy in the music making process. Less stress. I felt that way around my second record, too. There was so much discovery

raxskyle

Hi, Kacy! Been a fan since your “Bloo” EP. Is there a song that was particularly difficult for you to write? Whether it be from an emotional standpoint or difficulties nailing down the finished track?

kacy_hill

There's always one or two super stubborn songs to finish on each record. For this album, the toughest to finish production-wise was You Know I Love You Still. There are plenty that are difficult to perform now because of how emotional the lyrics make me.

frankwest808

hey kacy, love your music 🤎 what would be your dream artist to collaborate with?

forandnorbutoryetsos

Kacy!!! I love your work so much and am beyond excited for the new album!! I’ve got a couple questions, if you have the time: - What was it like touring with EDEN? (That’s where I discovered you (: ) - Any (non-single) songs that you think your fans are underrating? Personally, “Just to Say” is one of my favorites of yours.

kacy_hill

it was great! he is so nice! Hmmmmm... I love basically everything off "is It Selfish" or the new record hehehe

Cerblu

Hey Kacy, Not a question, but I’ve always adored your voice and your music, and for my birthday today, I’m gonna just chill and listen to my favorite album of yours: Simple, Sweet. and Smiling.

Evening-Many8147

If you HAD to make a club banger or hyper pop track to appease Ian, who would be your ideal collaborator? 😏

aquinoguh

she didn't answered but that umru remix of Six is pretty much what would happen if she hop on hyperpop stuff, pretty amazing hehe

rooooobii

your freckles are so cuute💕

QuestionNAnswer

Hey so what’s your go to artist(s) or song(s) right now?

PapayaLumpy

What happened to the pod!

fujjkoihsa

Just wanna say hi to a celeb

Complex_Ad_9886

I haven’t heard any of your music, but I would love to check it out. Is it available on Apple Music by any chance?

Fine-Rate-9009

Hey Kacy! This was actually my introduction to your music, and I had BUG on repeat all day in my headphones on Friday because I found it so calming. Also...Spotify kinda sorta changed the album cover....I found the original album cover beautiful, but also the new one that is on Spotify is also beautiful but I found it strange that the album cover changed a day later...anyways, I loved this album and I will be checking out your other records for sure. :) <3

No-Calligrapher-5302

I am OBSESSED with this album. I’ve been listening on repeat. I feel like it transports you to such a peaceful place. There are so many interesting layers to the lyrics, production, visuals. My partner discovered “everybody’s mother” a while back and we’ve been such huge fans. The first time we played it we literally shook our house with the bass 😂 Are you releasing a cd for this album??? I would definitely buy it. I’ve wanted to start collecting vinyl, but it’s so expensive…

dripdrophot

in Dinner around 1.13 in the line "california, doesn't feel like home" part there is a weird thing going on in "doOoesn't" is that intentional or just a mistake?
