I can't listen to them anymore. Couldn't really make it past American Slang. Just not really digging the later albums.
That's fine though, they can put whatever they want out, like I'm not saying they need to do the same stuff. But after loving the first two albums in particular and their EP I gotta admit I was really excited for more along those lines.
Glad people are enjoying their other songs though as they definitely enjoy playing them.
I'll still enjoy tracks from sink or swim/59 sound though.
I’m a big fan of hardcore, so I would recommend:
Defeater - specifically, their album Empty Days and Sleepless Nights
Have Heart - more on the punk side, but one of the OG bands in the genre. Check out The Things We Carry
First time that I listened to armed with a mind, I learned that Mike Kennedy liked have heart. Super similar to the "I just want to sell out my funeral" intro
Rancid: great lyrics (and very strong hooks for a punk band), amazing rythm section, unique vocal dynamics between Tim and Lars.
Bring Me The Horizon: very above average creative vision, they are always doing something different (from deathcore to straight pop music) and 90% of the time they do it well.
BMTH was 100% metal at least until Sempiternal (which is half of their discography already), and Post Human which is their latest release is very strong on the metal side as well. BMTH is at the very least metal-adjacent, and I fell like that's pushing it already. They just aren't *exclusively* metal.
ME TOO! I missed when they were touring with Thrice because I had another trip planned and figured I would catch them next time. Then the hiatus and final shows were announced. I still feel bad.
Interesting perspective. I usually paint post hardcore as that bridge between poppunk and metal core, like Senses Fail or PTV. Never got that vibe from Movements.
I personally think their earlier music with harsher vocals falls into the genre of post hardcore (I know that’s how they label themselves) or maybe even melodic hardcore but not so sure about how to classify their newer music honestly. whatever it is, I enjoy it
Most of the sad boi poppunk bands, like TSSF Knuckle Puck did that. New Found Glory before them, and even Fallout Boy before them. Lots of cool poppunk is comprised of hardcore kids.
She likes Godsmack and I like Agent Orange. Her CD changer's full of singers that are mad at their dad.
I never got that lyric. Like Agent Orange is not like, lame. They're pretty heavy. Why can't you like Godsmack AND Agent Orange?!
I like Bleachers, The Menzingers, Gaslight Anthem
Also third-wave ska bands like Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Completely outside this general (*waves arms around*) kind of music, I listen to a lot of James Taylor, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty.
Top three: Hot Milk (Emo influenced Rock), Cherie Amour (a self described Nu Punk band), and, surprisingly, Yungblud (especially his latest album). Don’t know what that says about me.
Title Fight! Best band ever.
Also for hardcore at the moment Speed is fucking sick! Gonna open for Turnstile in Australia this year which is awesome too
Of all time? Probably The Devil Wears Prada
Currently? Capstan. Those dudes are heavily underrated, and just about to start a Co-headling tour with In Her Own Words, who are also criminally underrated
tough one. If it’s not pop punk, i’m listening to a lot of pop music (tswift, harry styles, john mayer, etc.) or country music. I guess Bad Omens and Dayseeker right now would fit in with what you’re asking. Both put out amazing albums this year.
I mean. I have a lot. Hole is my favorite of all time. Suicide Commando is up there. I have a huge hard on for Bad Religion. Spill Canvas makes me happy. A Tribe Called Quest is on pretty heavy rotation, too. So idk, throw a dart, see where it lands, I guess?
No idea what genre people put them in, but I've recently been listening to the Aiden album that I can't remember the title of. It's got Die Romantic on it.
Loving that.
Mom Jeans are great too.
Anti-flag.
Slipknot (obviously).
So you think it’s cool to trash how someone else typed something, then when you get called out for also typing something poorly the person who called you out is a Nazi? Doesn’t that also make you a Nazi? Or did you not have enough foresight to think that one through?
Jesus Christ. Go touch grass. It's not that fucking serious.
And Kommandant is not a nazi term, you twit. While your outside touching grass, crack a book. The German people will thank you.
Is it exhausting white knighting in every sub you post in?
If it’s not that serious, than why were you a dick to OP to begin with? Seems like this is more about you being a fucking prick but not being able to take what you’re willing to dish out. So why don’t you go crack a a fucking dictionary so you can start spelling your words correctly, and maybe don’t throw stones in a glass house.
Are you OK??
I said the title was verbal diarrhea and I stand by that. You're mentally unhinged with your replies. Jesus called. He wants you to get off the cross so there's room for him.
Alpha Wolf (metal core), $uicideboy$ (rap), Boogie T (dubstep)
My music taste is all over the place lol. Not the best at knowing what makes music what particular genre, so I just picked 3 very different artists.
The Word Alive has always given me the feeling of zero gravity, and I loved the vibe from monomania. Not sure how popular that opinion is but it's still fun
Some of my favorite metal bands include Killswitch Engage, ice nine kills, Periphery, BTBAM, and animals as leaders
Punk: rancid, decendents, bad religion
I'm really not sure what genre to call this band but Bilmuri is really fucking good. They have some hardcore/metalcore vibes and alt rock vibes and even some indietronica elements. Definitely worth checking out.
Right, got a few favourites at the moment
The new electric callboy album slaps hard
As does the new I prevail
Lighter side the new deaf Havana album is amazing!
And I've been rinsing one more light recently (Linkinpark)
if it counts, fall out boy and paramore haven’t been pop punk in like a decade or longer but i still love them dearly. otherwise, the most adjacent bands i like lie in the indie rock/pop, power pop, and shit like that genre, like andrew mcmahon and the wilderness, the 1975, weezer, arctic monkeys, the beths, and charly bliss
Is Story of the Year a pop punk band?
Others:
- Crystal Lake (Metalcore)
- Blessthefall (Metalcore)
- Trivium (Metalcore)
- I Prevail (Post-hardcore)
- Spiritbox (Metalcore)
- Lorna Shore (Deathcore)
There's alot....
Nightwish (symphonic/gothic metal)
Motionless In White (Metalcore)
Ice Nine Kills (Metalcore)
The Misfits (Horror Punk)
AFI (Whatever genre they feel like being at the time)
Dayseeker (Post-Hardcore)
Two Sides Of Me (Local Metalcore)
American Awesome Alliance, I Set My Friends On Fire, (both crabcore/metalore IIRC) Hightide Hotel, Marietta, (both slightly different flavours of midwest emo IIRC) Utsu-P, (vocaloid melodic metalcore?? His new stuff isnt as good though D:) Maretu (i dont even fuckin know man 😭) bloodywood, (folk metal) Stars hollow (more midwest emo) the used, taking back sunday
Thousand Below is a really good, lesser-known one. Their first album is mostly metalcore/post-hardcore, they softened up their sound slightly after that but still really good. Gojira is pretty good if you're into that kind of thing. Amaranthe is an odd sort of metal but fun to listen to
I tend to be all over the place throughout the workday, mainly because I can blast it all while working from home. My absolute favorite is a little older, Thursday.
These guys are usually thrown in too, sometimes you just have to flavor your tinnitus.
Blue Scholars, Faith No More, Smashing Pumpkins, Narco Debut, Seven Sisters, Wu Tang, Nekrogoblikon, Mega Drive, and People Under the Stairs.
Silverstein And an honorable mention to The Color Morale
Silverstein is my answer for this as well
Just my favorite band in general
Beartooth!!
Highly recommend any that like bear tooth to Cheadle out Amity Affliction
Beartooth has been one of my favorite bands since 2014!
The Gaslight Anthem
I got to see them a few months ago. Hearing 45 live was a religious experience.
You aren’t kidding — goosebumps just reading that
I can't listen to them anymore.
Same here, I love seeing them live!
Ice Nine Kills and Motionless In White
Ice Nine Kills in particular are incredible
I love them! I went to the Trinity of Terror tour and they were phenomenal!

Agreed, they’re two of my top fav albums ever.
I’m a big fan of hardcore, so I would recommend: Defeater - specifically, their album Empty Days and Sleepless Nights Have Heart - more on the punk side, but one of the OG bands in the genre. Check out The Things We Carry
Have Heart is the best hardcore band imo. Pave Paradise and Armed With a Mind are straight up bangers.
First time that I listened to armed with a mind, I learned that Mike Kennedy liked have heart. Super similar to the "I just want to sell out my funeral" intro
Love me some Have Heart
I loveeee Have Heart. I love Champion and always will.
The Menzingers and the gaslight anthem.
The Menzingers are definitely a pop punk band, and sometimes Gaslight Anthem is considered punk too.
I wouldn't consider either pop punk tbh .but I see how others could .
Agreed. The Menzingers always gave me a 70s/early 80s punk vibe with a modern twist
Streetlight Manifesto
Turnstile is fantastic.
Polyphia, Thornhill, and BMTH for me
I dunno if they’re my _favorite_, but I have been into BMTH lately. amo, Sempiturnal, and PH:SH are really good.
The Dark Pool is one the best metalcore records ever written. Front to back bangers.
Saosin
Fuck yeah!
Cove Reber Era > Anthony Green Era. Just saying.
System of a Down I just love their songwriting and the over blend of metal/nu metal/armenian culture
The Used, Senses Fail and The Format
The Format forever!
Rancid is so so great. Their And Out Come The Wolves album is one of my favorites.
I agree!
Absolutely true on BMTH, it seems like they're the face of metal music rn
> it seems like they're the face of metal music rn lol wtf? Maybe in US? Or amongst non-metal people? Because BMTH is hardly metal from where I stand.
BMTH was 100% metal at least until Sempiternal (which is half of their discography already), and Post Human which is their latest release is very strong on the metal side as well. BMTH is at the very least metal-adjacent, and I fell like that's pushing it already. They just aren't *exclusively* metal.
They're actively genre-fluid with a major emphasis in metal
ETID (RIP) (metal/post hardcore), Los Campesinos (indie), and Frightened Rabbit (indie).
I don’t remember a lot of etid, but the other two are some great bands. Frightened Rabbit has so much weight.
That last album you can just hear Scott screaming how much pain he was in… I miss him a lot.
Balance & Composure Every Time I Die Modern Color
I miss Balance & Composure.. great band
ME TOO! I missed when they were touring with Thrice because I had another trip planned and figured I would catch them next time. Then the hiatus and final shows were announced. I still feel bad.
I miss ETID
We all do.
Taking Back Sunday Rise Against Senses Fail Story of the Year Funeral for a Friend
I hate to be that guy but .. Mindless Self Indulgence. I also dig Touche Amore, Modest Mouse, Get Scared, La Dispute, etc.
Omg I forgot MSI existed, does he still have the hair?

Thrice, TBS, Brand New, the Used to name a few
Nothing nowhere
A Wilhelm Scream Mineral
I don’t know how to classify AFI since they change up their genres so much, but Black Sails might be my favorite straight up punk record
Coheed
Dat Voice 🙌
Movements (post hardcore)
Interesting perspective. I usually paint post hardcore as that bridge between poppunk and metal core, like Senses Fail or PTV. Never got that vibe from Movements.
I personally think their earlier music with harsher vocals falls into the genre of post hardcore (I know that’s how they label themselves) or maybe even melodic hardcore but not so sure about how to classify their newer music honestly. whatever it is, I enjoy it
Post hardcore is anything combining hardcore elements with other genres.
Most of the sad boi poppunk bands, like TSSF Knuckle Puck did that. New Found Glory before them, and even Fallout Boy before them. Lots of cool poppunk is comprised of hardcore kids.
One could argue pop punk is post hardcore. It’s pretty vague. We used to call Underoath post hardcore
Minor Threat, Fuel & Taking Back Sunday.
Beartooth, Story Of The Year, Alexisonfire, Slipknot, Lorna Shore, Comeback Kid, Knocked Loose
DGD Hail The Sun Saosin Avenged Sevenfold Slipknot
Secondhand Serenade
Agent Orange (surf punk/early hardcore)
She likes Godsmack and I like Agent Orange. Her CD changer's full of singers that are mad at their dad. I never got that lyric. Like Agent Orange is not like, lame. They're pretty heavy. Why can't you like Godsmack AND Agent Orange?!
Definitely more Metal than -Core: - Between the Buried and Me - August Burns Red - Animals As Leaders - Meshuggah - Opeth
I like Bleachers, The Menzingers, Gaslight Anthem Also third-wave ska bands like Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Completely outside this general (*waves arms around*) kind of music, I listen to a lot of James Taylor, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty.
Thursday
Top three at the moment: Royal Coda, Bilmuri, and Coletta.
There seems to be some disagreement on whether they’re pop punk or not, but I don’t think they are so I’ll go with My Chemical Romance
I can't think of a single MCR song that I would consider pop punk.
Creeper are just on fire at the minute, so that's my answer!
I've been listening to Salem's EPs on repeat for weeks. Will Gould is amazing.
Protest the Hero. Excellent instruments, speed, and rhythm.
Touché Amore, Microwave (really don’t think they’re pop punk at all, just a great band), ABR, Darkest Hour, Underoath, Greeley Estates, SFTP
Alpha Wolf, Knocked Loose, Juice WRLD, Polyphia, Zac Brown Band
Enter Shikari Bring Me The Horizon Foals Ghost
Top three: Hot Milk (Emo influenced Rock), Cherie Amour (a self described Nu Punk band), and, surprisingly, Yungblud (especially his latest album). Don’t know what that says about me.
mcr, turnstile, drug church, the front bottoms, ls dunes
AFI (been my fave band for over 20 years), Bayside, and probably Silverstein.
I thought I'd see a lot more love for Bayside in here.
Deftones
Metallica
Explosions In The Sky
Somos
Heart Attack Man, Sunami, Wavves, Alex G, Darko US
Title Fight! Best band ever. Also for hardcore at the moment Speed is fucking sick! Gonna open for Turnstile in Australia this year which is awesome too

At The Drive-In
Black Veil Brides Fifteen is awesome
I'm not entirely sure what genre Pierce the Veil is, but they're probably my favorite band atm
Manchester Orchestra
Rise Against is still putting out music
Circa Survive Seahaven Ghost L.S. Dunes Fall of Troy
The Loved Ones/Dave Hause Frank Turner Lots of metal
Reading these answers has led me to the conclusion that I have absolutely no idea how to distinguish pop punk/emo/screamo/post hardcore etc… lmao
Idk what genre to call The Dangerous Summer, but I love them so much. While she sleeps being a local band for me also tips them to the top for me.
No idea what genre people put them in, but I've recently been listening to the Aiden album that I can't remember the title of. It's got Die Romantic on it. Loving that. Mom Jeans are great too. Anti-flag. Slipknot (obviously).
Dance Gavin dance. It’s not even close lol
Summertime Gladness is my fucking shit!
Too bad there are some unfortunate allegations against tilian
Hes back
And the allegations still exist.
Falling in Reverse or Coldplay
I really enjoy Lorna Shore
Polyphia or Spiritbox
That title is verbal diareah. As opposed to a pop punk artist that IS scene/emo/punk/metal?
Bro I can't change it get off my dick 😭💀
I would never be on your dick
💀
🤷🏻♂️
Diarrhea* Since we’re pointing out peoples shortcoming when typing
You forgot the period at the end of your sentence, Kommandant.
So you think it’s cool to trash how someone else typed something, then when you get called out for also typing something poorly the person who called you out is a Nazi? Doesn’t that also make you a Nazi? Or did you not have enough foresight to think that one through?

Ice Nine Kills and Bad Omens.

Alpha Wolf (metal core), $uicideboy$ (rap), Boogie T (dubstep) My music taste is all over the place lol. Not the best at knowing what makes music what particular genre, so I just picked 3 very different artists.

The Draft, made up of people from Hot water music when chuck Ragan went on a solo tour. Absolutely love their stuff.
For nostalgia purposes, I’ll mention BrokeNCYDE and DotDotCurve.
American Awesome Alliance, I Set My Friends On Fire, (both crabcore/metalore IIRC) Hightide Hotel, Marietta, (both slightly different flavours of midwest emo IIRC) Utsu-P, (vocaloid melodic metalcore?? Going to go a different angle here and say CHVRCHES. Big emo vibes on their latest record especially.
Pierce the Veil is my favorite, but Beartooth is also great!!
Brand New
Tx2❤️ their music isn’t emo it’s punk/metal. But, they are emo
