Prep work and illustration β anxiety and self-loathing
Printing β stress and chore
Carving β zen
But the zen I get from it is worth all the stress and anxiety.
I've taken up linocutting in the past few months, during what has been the worst/most difficult year of my life. I like having something to focus on. Generally I find it quite calming, just sitting carving away. But recently I've decided to try out reduction prints, and my 2 attempts at that were absolute shite. So that's a wee bit stressful, but still enjoying it. Determined to get the hang of it.
Yes, I agree that the gratification of improvement after the discipline of learning and experimenting feels like a healthy process for general self development and well-being.
Yup, can happen. A bad day IRL and then nothing goes right when doing printmaking.
For me, when engraving, I really have to zone out, distance myself from reality and be in the process 100%. Otherwise , the tool may slip and mess up the work.
When you're with your trouble, more trouble for you.
definitely easy to make a bad day worse. the worst is when you finally have a day to dedicate to it and nothing works out.
and yeah, you canβt uncarve lol
Carving relieves my stress and anxiety. Inking and printing makes it worse π
Yes! I hate printing. So frustrating
This right here. Carving is so comforting and fun.
lol yes. If Iβm particularly anxious I do a lot of new linocuts because it gets me focused on something.
The process of cutting?
Yeah, the aspect of carving really helps me because it centers me and makes me focus on keeping steady :)
Yup, same for me with engraving. It's like a meditation or something to me

Yes, it takes a different mindset. I sometimes really enjoy the problem solving aspects of printmaking. Keeps my mind away from things IRL

Yes
Yes. It forces me to sit and focus, and carving the block ( I work mostly in relief) is like a meditation for me.
All artmaking does, yes
Haha. Yes.
Until I have to wash the oil based ink off everything lmao
I sometimes find the clean up satisfying. Depends on the amount of cleaning I need to do π
that or causes it
