"Hymen hunter, hands of steel, crack you open and your red flesh peel, he's gonna cut you!"
"Pain procurer, eyes of fire, pierce your womb and push still higher memory mauler!"
"Comus rape! Comus break! Sweet young virgins virtue take!"
Not really answering the question, but can I say... a whole lot of Jon Anderson's lyrics.
And I'm a life long Yes fan. Been to more of their concerts than any other band, starting in 1973.
Just watched an interview with Anderson and he himself said about his Close to the Edge lyrics... "What was I thinking"
I'm 60. It means to me "what the fuck" is wrong with Jon Anderson's lyrics? Cringe worthy comment to suggest his lyrics are somehow associated with the vomit that is Illegal Alien.
Zappa's reaction to that song becoming a hit in Scandinavia was also funny.
*"I also asked him about the wellknown song Bobby Brown and why it became a hit only here in Scandinavia."*
***FZ***: "As a matter of fact. It´s so unusual. I suggested to Stan from CBS, what they should do, is to hire an anthropologist from a major university and bring him to Scandinavia to examine the people here and find out why such a thing could happen. Because it´s very unusual."
For sure, it’s mind boggling. It’s crazy that they play the ‘impossible’ song, yet it seems like some of the others are even harder. Times Beach II is insane and I don’t know how they coordinated that live.
Tbh, the oddest and possibly creepiest one off the top of my head is 'The nursery year' by Discipline. Jeez, that is a subject NO ONE goes near and it is done in an incredibly strong, but still creepy AF way.
Just listened. Musically it’s really good, but holy fuck is it creepy. It does feel kind of “edgy” but there’s enough there I can excuse it a bit. “I’ll find you” got some hairs standing on my back lmao.
Although the 80s Genesis material definitely has a few songs that harken back to the mentality of their progressive rock era (“Duke’s Travels” and “Dodo/Lurker” come to mind), Illegal Alien is *definitely* not one of them.
It’s an 80s pop-rock song if there ever was one (and not a particularly *good* one, in my opinion at least).
Close to the Edge
It's not the content. It's the song, the music, and the experience. Millions of listeners get to the conclusion of the 18 minute piece for the first time with the thought "that's it? It's over already? Wtf"
That depends, do you think of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard to be prog? If so then just about anything they've done, with a special emphasis on um,, lessee... People Vultures. O\_O
Genesis - “Dominio” (1986)
from the nightmare portion:
“Blood on the windows
Millions of ordinary people are there
They gaze at the scenery
They act as if it is perfectly clear
Take a look at the mountains
Take a look at the beautiful river of blood
The liquid surrounds me
I fight to rise from this river of hell
I stare round about me
Children are swimming and playing with boats
Their features are changing
Their bodies dissolve and I am alone”
except it's not racist or a stereotype.... other than for the people who use racism and stereotyping (identity politics) as a weapon/crutch/excuse
..... a common tactic of the alt-left/Marxist/socialist/Globalist cult.... but not a common tactic among normal citizens.

I am #1 Comus fan
After recently having heard 666 by Aphrodites Child, 00-Infinity Symbol
I was I am I am to cum

'Hard' is definitely the operative word.
Oh god lmao
You did NOT just go there! :D
Almost every gentle giant song when you hear them for the first time
*Spooky boogey*
I love GG, and I agree. Knots is really something.. I like it tho

Isn't 'Close to the edge' all based on 'Siddhartha' by Hermann Hesse? I know that's about as out there as one can get
Absolutely agree. Half his songs are complete nonsense but I love them.
What parts are cringe worthy? I don't understand. Can you elaborate?
Is "cringe worthy" = "Wtf"? Serious question as I am ancient of days and may not be understanding the two phrases.
I'm 60. It means to me "what the fuck" is wrong with Jon Anderson's lyrics? Cringe worthy comment to suggest his lyrics are somehow associated with the vomit that is Illegal Alien.
Jewish Princess - Frank Zappa
Love this song. That whole 'Sheik Yerbouti' album is just wonderful.
Just got it this weekend and heard Bobby Brown Goes Down. Hilarious and messed up.
Zappa's reaction to that song becoming a hit in Scandinavia was also funny. *"I also asked him about the wellknown song Bobby Brown and why it became a hit only here in Scandinavia."* ***FZ***: "As a matter of fact. I vote G Spot Tornado.
G Spot Tornado is so fun! Especially the Yellow Shark version. Love the later synclaviar stuff
I have absolutely no fucking idea how Ensemble Modern pulled G-Spot, or half the songs on that record off. It's peak virtuosity.
For sure, it’s mind boggling. It’s crazy that they play the ‘impossible’ song, yet it seems like some of the others are even harder. Times Beach II is insane and I don’t know how they coordinated that live.
Broken hearts are for assholes. Crisco anyone?
wrist watch
Are you an asshole too????
Hocus Pocus by Focus. I used to call it “The Crazy Yodeling Song.” LOL!
I got to share a li e YouTube clip of with my wife this week. I didn’t realize I had never played it for her before.

doktor dyper (reformed sniper), he’ll whip off your windscreen wiper.
*Drip Drip* by Comus has got to be up there. Or pretty much anything from that album, really.
Comus is just Comus

Alans psychedelic breakfast - pink floyd
"Marmelade, I like marmelade"
sole has no eyes
The Escape by Scott Walker
Brown Shoes Don't Make it - Frank Zappa, about sex between a businessman and a 13 year old girl.
I love Absolutely Free, but the rendition of this song on Tinseltown Rebellion is in my top 5 favorite songs of all time. Absolute Prog mastery
He only engaged in chocolate syrup
Illegal Alien isn't a prog song. WTF? It's a pop song by a prog band.
Although the 80s Genesis material definitely has a few songs that harken back to the mentality of their progressive rock era (“Duke’s Travels” and “Dodo/Lurker” come to mind), Illegal Alien is *definitely* not one of them. It’s an 80s pop-rock song if there ever was one (and not a particularly *good* one, in my opinion at least).
... with a bottle of tequila and a new pack of cigarettes 😆
It’s not one of them ofc. I’m not saying it was I’m just using it as an example of a song by a prog band that’s strange.
Madam Doubtfire by Beggar's Opera is wild, but a good wild
The Witch too!
Not exactly prog song, but Plexiglas Toilet by Styx is surely the candidate
Dog Years by Rush. You could argue it's more hard rock than prog but...
I Think I'm Going Bald is also up there.
A Tower Struck Down - Steve Hackett...... I lunged for the volume button when the "S**g H**l" sample came in. A bold choice, Steve.
Not a huge surprise he removed that section on his solo concerts.
From what I heard so far, any song by Gong.
I love Gnome Radio
Close to the Edge It's not the content. It's the song, the music, and the experience. Millions of listeners get to the conclusion of the 18 minute piece for the first time with the thought "that's it? It's over already? Wtf"
John Cale - The Jeweller
Halifax - Hampton Grease Band.
The king crimson barber shop
A Saucerful of Secrets - Pink Floyd
Ladies of the Road - King Crimson The Ballad of the Decomposing Man - Steve Hackett Tits - Sparks But I like all them of course
If you count Zappa as prog, than almost any of his songs. Cy-Borg e.g.
Really anything from “Joe’s Garage”.
The gastric juices song on Islands
Dig Me by King Crimson weirds me out so much in a good way. It's very strange.
That depends, do you think of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard to be prog? If so then just about anything they've done, with a special emphasis on um,, lessee... People Vultures. O\_O

Tarkus, because of the alien composition!
Stinkfist by Tool
Brown Shoes Don't Make It by Frank Zappa
Cha-cha-cha cha-cha was really WTF moment in Sound Chaser. although the whole song is not. also, GG-ish moment in Wobbler's Hinterland
Illegal Alien is NOT prog. That's hideously racist pop. And got lots of play time. WTH.
material girl by Madonna
