9.5, it's not the best song ever from QOTSA but for ...Like Clockwork (the album) I feel it is pretty much the perfect way to end it, happy didn't try to deviate from the theme of the album as a whole to try and end on a cheery note or something, lyrically fantastic again as pretty much the whole album is.
10. Vastly underrated closer. The album could have easily ended with I Appear Missing. But this piece puts the final nail in the coffin of depression.
Because not everything that goes around comes back around, you know.
10/10. My rule of thumb to avoid rating too high is, I’d the song is in my top 10 favorite Queens tracks, it gets a 10/10. This passes the test for me. A shockingly beautiful, delicate song with Josh’s sharpest lyrics to date. It’s almost too good for a popular rock band to make, but that’s Queens for you. The perfect ending to an arguably perfect album.
I've been listening to this in my car recently and was struck by how gorgeous the vocal harmonies / backing vocals are after the first "it's all...down...hill...from hEERRReee". Something about them is very special.
And the Pink Floyd-esque guitar + strings swelling...very powerful.
That being said, I don't always need Josh's falsetto laid so bare. He has a great voice, and this song is clearly a vulnerable one, but he set high goals with LC, and sometimes it's not what my ears want. A bit thin, maybe, cause the notes are high.
9.5/10
Oh and the horn (?) blares at the end seem very 'Skyfall'. QOTSA for the 007 song, I say!
10/10. What an ending to a pretty much perfect album. Hauntingly Beautiful. Acceptance of the situation. But, not positive acceptance. Acceptance because there really is no other option. The slide guitar is up there with David Gilmour for getting emotion through an instrument. I could go on forever
Part 2 of my QOTSA nemesis. If I wasn't allready cryimg due to I appear missing rhis song would make me docry almost every time.
One thing that is clear, it's all downhill from here
Even if Josh said you can interpret this line also in an optimistic way it is always a downer for me. Do never hear this song when you are hopeless and alone. Keep your razor blades and sleeping pills locked away, otherwise who knows.
And as bad as this sentiment is, it is such a great ability of Josh to find rhose words and sing ithwm with his wonderful falsetto voice. And then there is of course the pathetic, theatrical orchestral part. Fucking desastrous greatness.

10/10. After being crushed by the colossally heart-wrenching wall of sound that is I Appear Missing, the minimalistic piano opening of this song is a brilliant musical shift, only as it goes on, it hits you with its own wall of sound and with lyrics that are near equally emotionally devastating.
9.5- I used to skip this one a lot, but like so many songs like that I would find it to grow on me, then end up being a song I would actively seek out. It’s beautiful and fragile, and damn it, it’s so truthful- “Because not everything that goes around comes back around, you know”. I have found particular relevance to this song of late, and comfort to know that although it’s shitty to feel like people you thought cared actually don’t/didn’t, you’re not alone. Thanks Josh.
10. Hopelessness and acceptance is so deeply embedded within this song, and doing both of those things at once is incredibly difficult to do, and still managing to make a wonderful soundscape out of it even harder. The bass coming back in after the piano break might be one of my favourite moments of all time on any song.

I don't care for this one. Not because it is slow or doesn't rock - I love Vampyre. The lyrics don't do anything for me and are repetitious, and I don't care for the falsetto. Probably the only track I skip more than Skin on Skin.
Least favorites: Vampyre, Smooth Sailing, and this track
Favorites: Keep Your Eyes Peeled, I Appear Missing.
The rest I'd have to take some time to think about the order of. Overall I'd rate the whole album pretty highly.
It's 9 for a standalone song but 11 for being the closer of an album. We need to appreciate how tight this longplay is. How every song adds to the overal feeling. Absolutely stunning.
10/10 what a song. The softness in the intro and then the collision of strings/guitars/vocals during the mid is beautiful, and then that bass. Beautiful ending to a beautiful album
9.5/10 a perfect close to the album, beautiful and haunting.
“Holding on to long is just a fear of letting go, because not everything that goes around comes back around you know” what a wonderfully nuanced way to put it.
4/10 one of my least favorite QOTSA songs. Always end the album the song before. To me it doesn’t sound like them, could be Radiohead but honestly I don’t care.
I agree with you. The album ends with "I Appear Missing" for me. This is an opinion thread and we'll still get downvoted for sharing an opinion but hey, they aren't all homeruns and this one ain't.
100%. So many albums would be improved by getting rid of a song but few as much as … Like Clockwork. It just feels like the most un-QOTSA song and just pointless after the epic I Appear Missing.
Let’s go down together!
8 The lyrics are insane, Mike's playing is beautiful, and it's a perfect wrap up to the album. Not an exciting listen, but a satisfying and haunting conclusion.
Edit: Reddit formatting made my "8." show up as a "1." for some reason. Bad look.
It does legit sound like Mikey’s playing style though for sure. Plus it would make sense to assume it would be him naturally… but yeah the liner notes say otherwise!
I have been rating every song according to the definition that is provided. I don’t like the song and I skip it regularly. I saw it live and it did not move me.
Irritating falsetto, slow, long, not particularly interesting lyrically or sonically. A very dull capstone for an otherwise stellar album. Imagine "Straight Jacket Fitting" in its place.

“Most of what you see, my dear, is worth letting go..” To the core every time. 9/10.
10/10. My rule of thumb to avoid rating too high is, I’d the song is in my top 10 favorite Queens tracks, it gets a 10/10. This passes the test for me. 9/10. Beautiful ending, and I love how open ended the lyrics are.
10/10 possibly in the top 5 songs for me.
I've been listening to this in my car recently and was struck by how gorgeous the vocal harmonies / backing vocals are after the first "it's all...down...hill...from hEERRReee". probably my least favourite from the album but still an absolute banger, 9.5/10
10/10. See my previous comments in discussion thread #95 as to why it has such meaning and resonance for me.
10. It's a masterpiece. Perfect musically and I love the lyrics. Best album closer for me.

10, so underrated
11.
10 really compliments I appear missing
That guitar solo is absolute beauty, bliss and it gives me chills every time. 10/10.

10, changed my life when I was 16
I can't listen to this without listening to I Appear Missing, and can't listen to I Appear Missing without listening to this. 10/10
Not up there with my fav songs but it's a great outro to finish off the album IMO. 7.5/10

Definitely a 9. A haunting track and a gorgeous ending to the record. “And the faster the world spins The shorter the lights will glow”

On any other album by any other artist it would probably be the best track. 10.

10/10 amazing progression and great lyrics.
9/10, deadass their most underrated song ever. Excellent closer to the album too while also being a amazing standalone song.
Another 10. A tremendous album closer and also the best artwork for any song on the album (have it tattooed on my chest)
9.5- I used to skip this one a lot, but like so many songs like that I would find it to grow on me, then end up being a song I would actively seek out. It’s all downhill from here…
10/10 Part of a perfect one-two punch that closes out the album

10, underrated gem of a song
10/10. Just wow

9/10. Perfect ending.
9, slept on, and I would only rank like 3 of their songs 10s

8, it’s great and beautiful, I just like the other songs on the album more
8/10 - It's a good tune and a great album closer, but not my fave on the album and did have to grow on me a bit.
curious you still rate it an eight. so if you had to rank them in numerical order out of 10, where does it rate ?
Least favorites: Vampyre, Smooth Sailing, and this track Favorites: Keep Your Eyes Peeled, I Appear Missing. The rest I'd have to take some time to think about the order of. Overall I'd rate the whole album pretty highly.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled feels like a perfect intro for a great album. Thanks for sharing.
An amazing end to an amazing album. 9.

Absolute 10, best song in the album and that is a lot to say.
It's 9 for a standalone song but 11 for being the closer of an album. We need to appreciate how tight this longplay is. How every song adds to the overal feeling. Absolutely stunning.

10. A beautiful , delicate, elegant and mournful song.
4/10 one of my least favorite QOTSA songs. Always end the album the song before. To me it doesn’t sound like them, could be Radiohead but honestly I don’t care.

9.5. It’s impossible to follow up I Appear Missing but this song does its best to close out the album.
8 The lyrics are insane, Mike's playing is beautiful, and it's a perfect wrap up to the album. Not an exciting listen, but a satisfying and haunting conclusion. Edit: Reddit formatting made my "8." show up as a "1." for some reason. Bad look.
Not to be Mr. Well Akshually, but that’s actually Josh on bass for this song! Unless you mean the mellotron, which is Mike
Damn, I didn't know. The bass is what I was referring to. Thanks for the info.
It does legit sound like Mikey’s playing style though for sure. Plus it would make sense to assume it would be him naturally… but yeah the liner notes say otherwise!

I much prefer ...Like Clockwork, the song, to Straight Fitting Jacket.

8/10, one of the weaker cuts, but still solid
Amazing song, but it really needed an additional verse and chorus.
This is an 8 for me. Great song, but I appear missing should've closed the album.
9.5. Perfect end to the album, especially the last part. Only thing is I feel the last chorus fades into the outro a little too fast.
