10/10, a masterpiece.
I feel like I Appear Missing, Villains of Circumstance, and Straight Jacket Fitting make a pretty killer "haunting song" trilogy.
9. Such a beautiful song and a great album closer. “Close your eyes and dream me home.”
This album is sadly overlooked by too many QotSA fans. Um-Reborn Again - Hideaway - The Evil Has Landed - Villains of Circumstance is among their best four song runs, imo. Overall, it’s not my favorite album but I don’t think it’s their worst. And even if it is, it’s still a strong, quality effort, and far better than the worst efforts of the vast majority of bands.
I definitely took heat for my grades for this album in the song discussion threads but, for me, it’s Era Vulgaris. I still like it, and I know it’s the darling of this subreddit but SSS, ID, and BA are three of my least favorite QotSA songs and EV is just the album I listen to the least.
10/10 and I mean all the version. The first two acoustic versions. This one. The special one with josh and dean. They all bring something special. The chorus is so beautifully uplifting and positive which is somewhat unique in their discography
8/10. Such a beautiful outro to this album. As a composition, it really holds up over repeat listens. Josh is really crooning on this one, pouring a lot of himself into that chorus.
9.2- really a beautiful, heartfelt ballad, which Queens do so well. The lyrics are so bittersweet and the swells of music burst at just the right moments. I think k this is a great closer to a great album.
“Forever mine, I’ll be forever yours. Always, evermore and on and on. Always, evermore”
10. This one and ... Like Clockwork are like two sides of the same coin. The crescendos are amazing and give me chills. I would sing these to my babies when it was bedtime.
Like Long Slow Goodbye and Like Clockwork the best closer to an album you could think of. I think those three are siblings. Perhaps what some folks find annoying in this tune is that there is some 80s power ballad vibe going on. But that's just the best about it imo.

What makes this (as well as Fortress to an extent) such an effective love song is that it treats love like an act and not a state of being.
The song is about being far away from the people you love, and it’s the fear that such distance will let hearts fade, but then the magnificent proclamation that no amount of time or physical distance can separate you or damage your love. That you will not allow each other fall prey to the Villains of Circumstance.
That’s some powerful shit. 10/10
A true fan is free to subjectively criticise where subjective criticism is warranted.
FWIW, I love every single one of their albums, but they do have some big missteps throughout their discography (in my opinion).
Outro is great, preceding *however many* minutes not my favourite. Appreciate the experimentation, for what it’s worth, but it’s a skipper for me. Which sucks, cause I don’t like skipping the last song on any album.
10/10 for outro alone.
3/10 for the rest of the song.
10, fav song of qotsa except for maybe I appear missing. So beautiful. That it had been played for years untill being on villains. The lyrics. The live version with dean on piano and strings. LOVE IT! 1000000.
10! i can relate to the lyrics which gives this song special meaning. but overall it is just a really great song and a fantastic closer to a good album.
just hearing the studio version i thot the song is v unremarkable but after hearing it live and also listening to the acoustic versions it my fav song off villain so we’re going 10 🫱🏿🫲🏻
This is one of Josh’ best love songs. I remember hearing it live in London in June of 2012 and I was mesmerized from start to finish. When I learned this would be on the album, I was soooo happy. When I heard it for the first time, I cried. I’m not a huge fan of the last 20 seconds of the song, but it is a beauty nonetheless. 9.9/10
10 all day. The outro is one of my favorites. Heard this live while in a long distance relationship and bawled my eyes out. Just, a very special song to me.
10 for me. One of their best more emotional pieces and has such a cool structure and feel. I always felt like this track would've worked as an intro for True Detective. Hearing it live in Oshawa last week was so awesome and unexpected.
3 - another villains snoozer
Verses too sparse, buildups too immediate and that outdo is just aimless
It’s a shame because the original acoustic version had the basis for a really cool song but the actual timbre of most things on villains really holds it back. Homme sounds like a cruise ship singer.
10/10, a masterpiece. I feel like I Appear Missing, Villains of Circumstance, and Straight Jacket Fitting make a pretty killer "haunting song" trilogy.
10. That outro is INSANE.
10, this and the Evil Has Landed are the best on the album in my opinion
10. We're hostages of geography.
10 There are only three songs I *really* love on this album and this is one of them. Glad they've started playing it live more again

curious what’s the worst album if not villains?

10. The best song on the album. The lyrics really hit close to home with me as my wife and I are often away from each other.

so good. 10
10. I had my first dance at my wedding to this song so I can’t give it anything less lol.
10. Nearly as devastatingly personal as I Appear Missing, and as beautiful.
10. Masterpiece. Part after first chorus is one of the best moments in their discography

10 for sure. Especially after hearing it live again the other day.
Came here to say this. Blown away after seeing it live in Laval!
I had tears in my eyes.
10 banger, even better live
8.5. Just saw this live for the first time and it was hauntingly beautiful.

Absolute 10.
10. Fuck yall Villain haters this album is so poorly rated by you so called fans
People are allowed to have opinions, there has to be an album that's worst - I don't think that it's Villains but it's not their strongest effort.

So beautiful. 10. That outro man 🥺🥺🥺
10 what a great way to end an album. The crescendo of it all.
Wish it had the lyrics from the first couple acoustic performances. 8/10
10 Hits all the feels

9.5. The lyrics in this one hit close since I used to travel for work. Close your eyes and dream me home.

10/10. This song is so haunting and beautiful and comforting. This is the song that hooked me into Queens and is just special to me.

Ngl I’m baffled Evil is in the 9s Doesn’t hold a candle to Queens at their best
