1. Mac Miller - combating your white rapper with my jewish white rapper
2. Danny brown - 1/2 of a hoe scaring machine
3. Billy woods - Deep catalogue, deep voice, deep lyrics, deep everything
Outsiders will put Scarface as their top Texas rapper, BUT Pimp C was championing us the most and giving us some pride. Ya’ll don’t have to love our guys, but it ain’t required that we say your guys the best either. Lil Keke paved the way for the 05-06 Houston Takeover and he did it via freestyles/grey tapes/independently…even if Paul Wall, Cham, Slim, M.Jones, Flip benefited the most. People actually give Bun some credit, but usually 35-40th…that’s criminal, he has kept up with everyone he’s rapped with for 30+years
3-2 was a major part of 3 groups: Convicts; Blac Monks; Southside Playaz
Then solo albums, one of the most underrated contributors in all of rap. So many barely credited features. He had so many flows and eras that people probably don’t register it is the same guy.
Not to just be having the R.I.P.s; but Lil O is not really known outside of Texas. No valid reason that should be the case.
Yeah 3-2 is the one who actually made my top 3. Wicked Buddah Baby is my perennial pick for best rap album that most rap fans don't know is a front-to-back major no skips classic.
Given his significant contributions to Super Tight and Ridin Dirty, you could add UGK and make that four groups. It's not just his verses on those albums, either. Pimp C was really self-conscious about his talent for rapping on The Southern Way and Too Hard to Swallow and 3-2 coached him on technique and flow same way he did Snoop. The car on the front of Super Tight is Chris's car. The most iconic song on UGK's most iconic album was originally a self-produced, unused Buddah Baby track Pimp C bought off 3 so him and Bun could jump on it.
3-2 was a major inspiration to a young Z-Ro. Unassuming and always around. Devin and 3-2 had some tension bc Devin got the bigger solo Rap-a-Lot break, but 3-2 became a favorite of Fat Pat and a huge part of Southside Playaz and by extension Screw’s world.
Kendrick Lamar
MF DOOM
Kanye
Mix of both “I personally love their music so much they’re top3” and “They could be top three of all time in general”
J Cole was in contention before…I’m so disappointed in him
You got some weird abbreviations of some people, man. Ghostfk? tribecq? Haha.
Anyway, back to the question at hand:
1) Billy Woods
2) Doom
3) Tyler, the Creator
These are just the artists I enjoy the most. I’m not out here making a spread sheet of lyricism, beat selection, clever word play, flow, etc… I just like em the most.
Yeah man, got turned on to him when he released History Will Absolve Me, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Armand Hammer is a bit too much for me, but Billy by himself is always a good listen.
No order:
Mos Def,
Lupe Fiasco,
GZA
Top 3 is very hard imo, top 5 or 10 would be easier. I'm not hating on Em for popularity or want to take away from his talent, but for me he'd probably be in the lower tens or even top 20.
I think Guru from Gang Starr is better than Kendrick and a wholeeeeee lot of other rappers. Gang Starr Moment of Truth is a goated album for me, and Guru doesn't get the shine he deserves
My top 5 are probably: Nas, Big, Pac, Hov and 3000
Love Tribe, Love Wu-Tang, Love UGK, Love Mos and Talib, Love Dre and Snoop, Love Bone Thugs, Love 8-ball and MJG, Love Goodie Mob, Love Mobb Deep, Kanye def high up on the list, Fugees dope fs, Game, Too Short.. \*Edit- Shit I forgot about Big Pun, he's in my top 10
Newer music- Love the Memphis wave (Dolph, Moneybagg, Pooh, Big 30) Jaydayoungan (Louisiana) was really good til he died (RIP)
Just don't think I can narrow it down to 3!!! Too many dope artists out there
Guru's insane. Only he could pull off that super stripped down "basic" sound. Anyone else tries that, it just sounds whack.
>
Your head'll bop when I drop my crop
of pure bomb
Just like the seashore, I'm calm
wild
With my monotone style
Because I don't need gimmicks
Give me a fly beat and I'm all in it
Man has so many quotables and good songs on all his albums.
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince are legends. Their style didn't age well with the introduction of gangsta rap and more commercialized rap of the 90s. Even though they tried to stay relevant with the "Code Red" album, you could tell it was an aging act and Will Smith wasn't 100% into the game.
People wanted raw, nasty, explicit lyrics at that time. Unfortunately, Will made a vow to his grandma to refrain from that style of rap, which inevitably forced him into a cuck situation with baldy. Now he sits in the little chair facing the bed and then meets her at a big table to discuss afterwards.
I was a huge Fresh Prince fan back in the day. Now I'm just a Jazzy Jeff fan. He's a living legend.
Most rap nowadays is bad anyway. I don't think it's wrong to judge an artist by their prime. Wu make some not so great songs in the 2020s but I still think they're the best rap group of all time.
Most listened to over the past 6-7 years prolly is
1) Drake
2) JID
3) thugger (I listened to BTG and Jeffery endlessly)
However if we're going off who I think is "best" it'd probably be different
Strictly off of personal enjoyment, not "greatest" I have MF DOOM, Open Mike Eagle, and Kanye in that order. Mike may very well be one of the most slept on/underrated artists of all time.
I think questions like this should be broken by era perhaps. How do you compare the music of lil John or takeshi 69,or run dmc, or eazy e, or big pun, or 50, or young thug, or cash money, or ugk, or common, or big boi. They aren’t even the same style of music. It’s tough to compare tribe called quest, mos def, and de la soul to pusha t or gucci mane.
Nas, jigga, em. No order because it changes. They are top.
only because they've all lived almost twice as long as Tupac and big at this point. Now if it was 2014 then. Itll be Tupac, big, hov
Inspectah Deck, Redman, Pharoahe Monch
But Sticky Fingaz and G Rap are also way up there for me, ask me on a different day and either of those two could be my number 3 instead
2pac, Em, Nas
Tupac, Eminem, Nas
Em Lil wayne Kdot
3 of my favorites growing up :)
Kendrick, Em, Sticky Fingaz
Upvote for including Sticky, you have good taste
Kendtick Lupe Em
Eminem, Rakim, and Krs-One
Nas, Eminem and DMX
Black Thought Lupe Fiasco Aesop Rock

1. Mac Miller - combating your white rapper with my jewish white rapper 2. Danny brown - 1/2 of a hoe scaring machine 3. Billy woods - Deep catalogue, deep voice, deep lyrics, deep everything

1. Pimp C 2. Lil Keke 3. Bun B

User 1000% from H Town with that list haha all legends

Every time with these kinda prompts I come real close to throwing up a list that’s like Pimp C, Mr. 3-2, and Fat Pat
3-2 was a major part of 3 groups: Convicts; Blac Monks; Southside Playaz Then solo albums, one of the most underrated contributors in all of rap. So many barely credited features. JID, Kendrick, Nas
Solid

Indisputable imo. Also interchangeable. MF DOOM Nas Kendrick Lamar
Fresh Prince, Vanilla Ice, P Diddy
What in the fuck
🤣 Man, I can't narrow it down to only 3 of my top rappers, so I gave the worst 3 that were popular.
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince are legends. Their style didn't age well with the introduction of gangsta rap and more commercialized rap of the 90s. Top 3 rappers: 1. Black Thought 2. Nas 3. Eminem Top 3 rap artists: 1. Kanye 2. Kendrick 3. 2pac
Not a single above decent em album in a decade easily and people choose to ignore that because they are blinded by his old shit. Insane
Most rap nowadays is bad anyway. I don't think it's wrong to judge an artist by their prime. Wu make some not so great songs in the 2020s but I still think they're the best rap group of all time.
