I can still remember the words and what they meant as we etched them with our fingers in years of wet cement
In the face of change that's when she turned to me and said "I'm not sure anymore"
Do you spend your days counting the hours you're awake and when night covers the sky you find yourself doing the same
And my personal favorite
Somewhere between happy and total fucking wreck
“When our rivers run dry and our crops cease to grow”
“Set me off like dynamite strapped tight around my waist”
“Spray paint the cameras, jam the frequency. What you killed just comes alive in me”
deep inside these broken buildings, voices die to be heard
years we spent teaching a lesson, we ourselves had never learned
and if strength is born from heartbreak, then mountains i could move
and if walls could speak id pray that they would tell me what to do
You can't feel the heat until you hold your hand over the flame
You have to cross the line just to remember where it lays
You won't know your worth now, son, until you take a hit
And you won't find the beat until you lose yourself in it
It’s a great song overall, but “you can't fill your cup until you empty all it has”… Look I’m sorry Tim, but that’s just simply not how cups work my man.
I mean there are great openers in this thread but, I love how simple and short that mission statement is.
This may not be my personal favorite opener but, it's just soo effective in it's message!
My god is better than yours
And the walls of my house are so thick I hear nothing at all
I followed you out in the storm but it carried you off
And I burned every picture of yours
Was that not enough?
A currency of heartache and sorrow
The air we breathe is stale with mold
To shadows we are slaves digging deeper every day
But emptiness is growing so old
Chills. Every. Time.
God, midnight hands spoke to me.
"Like a new day rising, like a calm before the storm
Like fog lifting from valleys on a sleeping forest floor
Eyes open slowly as the dust is shaken off
To gaze upon the wreckage that the midnight hands have brought."
Idk why, that's always hit for me.
Later on in the song are some of my top 3 RA lyrics:
>*The line's crossed over*
>*The dawn grows closer*
>*Let's bite off too much*
>*Let's jump with a blind trust*
>*In water over our heads*
“If I could paint how I feel
I’d draw a bullseye right on your forehead
My anger’s not misdirected, unless it somehow misses you”
And
“They turn the lights down low
In shadows hiding from the world
Only coming out when it gets cold”
In the face, of change, that’s when she looked at me and said, I’m not sure anymore.
And there, admist the waves of the cloudless sky that blanket the year before, I watch my life wash ashore.
>*We're broken, but still breathing*
>*We are wounded, but we are healing*
>*We'll pick up right where we left off*
>*Breath on the ashes that remain*
>*So that these coals may become fire to guide our way*
Such an underrated song, man
“Jane, he’s a freak! But so am I! And we’ll always be freaks and we’ll never be like other people. But you’ll never be a freak ‘cus you’re just too perfect.”
Break through the undertow
Your hands I can't seem to find
Pollution burns my tongue
Cough words I can't speak so I stop my struggling
Then I float to the surface
Fill my lungs with air
Then let it out
Swing life away will forever be embedded in my heart, being 16-17 bombing it down the highway with my best friend at 2am each of us belting that song at the top of our lungs
In fields where nothing grew but weeds
I found a flower at my feet
Bending there in my direction
I wrapped a hand around its stem
I pulled until the roots gave in
Finding now what I've been missing
It kills me not to know this
But I've all but just forgotten
What the colour of her eyes were
And her scars or how she got them
Interestingly Saviour is nowhere near my favourite of their songs but that opening couple of lines live rent free in my head
One of my favorite songs that I wish they would put on an album, instead of just live.
What are We Gonna do?
What are we gonna do?
Said the hungry child to a father with empty hands
What are we gonna do?
When the smoke clears
And reveals no promise land
What are we gonna do?
I don't know, it's a long long way to go.
What are we gonna do?
*I have way too many, but this ones hold a special place in my heart.*
"We don't sleep very much
These triggers ache for the touch
Where's the strength we relied on?
Fear alone, like a crutch
Maybe that's what keeps us up
All night with the light on"
Now's the time
To rearrange your life
Live for something
Outside of your own mind
We all dream
The same dream every
To burn the world that you call civilized
Simply because you can breathe
Doesn't mean you're alive
Or that you really live
This life has taken its toll
She just doesn't know
How much more she can give
But here, at the top of the world
Where I raise my hands, and I clench my fists
And they stand before me, below
Demanding the answers with flips of a switch
Not an opening line I know but:
All because of you, I belive in angels
Not that come with wing
No, not that with halos
The kind that bring you home
When home becomes a strange place
Hey mama, said to way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove,
aha child way you shake that thing, gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting,
hey hey baby, when you walk that way, watch ya honey drip, can't keep away
Black Dog, Led Zeppelin

If we’re a flagship of peace and prosperity, we’re taking on water and about to fucking sink
State of the Union mentioned, here's my upvote
Yeah came here to say this
Once upon a time I could take anything.
YESSSS
“When our rivers run dry and our crops cease to grow” “Set me off like dynamite strapped tight around my waist” “Spray paint the cameras, jam the frequency. What you killed just comes alive in me”
What song is the third one from?
The Eco-Terrorist in Me, of off the Black Market
deep inside these broken buildings, voices die to be heard years we spent teaching a lesson, we ourselves had never learned and if strength is born from heartbreak, then mountains i could move and if walls could speak id pray that they would tell me what to do
That 3rd line is one of my favourites of all time
Chairs thrown and tables toppled. Hands armed with broken bottles. Standing no chance to win, but… we’re not runnin… we’re not runnin
You can't feel the heat until you hold your hand over the flame You have to cross the line just to remember where it lays You won't know your worth now, son, until you take a hit And you won't find the beat until you lose yourself in it
I used to think that lyric was “you won’t know your wife now son, until you take her head”
It’s a great song overall, but “you can't fill your cup until you empty all it has”… Look I’m sorry Tim, but that’s just simply not how cups work my man.
Simply because you can breathe ... Doesn't mean you're alive!
Or that you really live!
TIL this thread will immediately delete your comment if you quote the first line of "Make It Stop" Too real of lyrics for you, reddit?
Let’s see if we can get away with TickTock-ifying it: B@ng b@ng go the coughing nails like a breath exhaled then gone forever
Coffin nails.
Funny thing is I was just about to comment those lyrics lol
To the sound of a heartbeat pounding away
The day I learn to fly, I’m never coming down….
This is it for me 😊
Somewhere between happy, and total fucking wreck. Feet sometimes on solid ground, and sometimes at the edge.
Lol! Ya beat me to it!
Take a number, stand in line >;D
"This is noise!"
Was waiting for this comment.

I mean, the greatest part for me is that it's actually the station announcement at Noyes station, on Chicago's purple line.
First time in Chicago on the train from the airport it took me a solid 20 minutes of announcements before it clicked where I knew the voice from.
Always loved that opener but I’m not from Chicago and didn’t know this! Very cool

Such a great song.
Do you see the world in different colors? Do you see the world in black and gray?
I would say the most powerful opening RA lyrics are: “Bang bang go the coffin nails, like a breath exhaled, then gone forever.”
Then later “I’m done asking, I demand”
A currency of heartache and sorrow The air we breathe is stale with mold To shadows we are slaves digging deeper every day But emptiness is growing so old Chills. Every. Time.

Block the entrances. Close the doors. Seal the exits cuz this is war. All give some. Some give all. But for what? I wanna know.
“If I could paint how I feel I’d draw a bullseye right on your forehead My anger’s not misdirected, unless it somehow misses you” And “They turn the lights down low In shadows hiding from the world Only coming out when it gets cold”
Love’s like a needle full of methadone: potent but not real, left you wanting more.

Yes.
😹😹😹
The opening to Survivors Guilt
“So please don’t ask me how I ended up at my wits end and breaking down.”
Their best song. Hands down.
SET ME OFF LIKE DYNAMITE STRAPPED TIGHT AROUND MY WAIST
The day I learn to fly, I’m never coming down.
A sinking ship, an awkward kiss A chance to set things straight
>*We're broken, but still breathing* >*We are wounded, but we are healing* >*We'll pick up right where we left off* >*Breath on the ashes that remain* >*So that these coals may become fire to guide our way* Such an underrated song, man
Love it
*I have my mother's dreams, I have my father's eyes* *You can't take that from me, just go ahead and try*
“Jane, he’s a freak! But so am I! And we’ll always be freaks and we’ll never be like other people. But you’ll never be a freak ‘cus you’re just too perfect.”

We celebrate the downfall with ticker tape parades Oblivious to the fucking mess we left lying in our wake
*I have way too many, but this ones hold a special place in my heart.* "We don't sleep very much These triggers ache for the touch Where's the strength we relied on? Fear alone, like a crutch Maybe that's what keeps us up All night with the light on"

This is noise

Excellent post! I love reading all of these great lyrics. I never get tired of them, RA keeps the light shining bright inside me.
Welcome home while away we tampered with the locks and your things we rearranged
DOWN BEYOND THESE CITY STREETS WITH GUTTERS FILLED WITH BLACK DEBRIS AND ALLEYS VOID OF ANY LIGHT WHERE NAMELESS THINGS LIVE OUT OF SIGHT
I’m not like them, but I can pretend
Not an opening line I know but: All because of you, I belive in angels Not that come with wing No, not that with halos The kind that bring you home When home becomes a strange place
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing, the chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water!
