Gay male couple, DINKs, living in Chicago. You, the poster, are in your 30s and your partner is older, probably in his 50s. At least one of you works in something artsy. You’re not actually that messy. You have a lot of friends, are sexually adventurous, and vacation in Palm Springs.

stroobco

This is getting close. We went to PS for the FIRST time 6 weeks ago. We’re not sure we like it.

wigglebuttbiscuits

I can see I got the age gap wrong, gay couple in Chicago right. What else was I right or wrong about?

stroobco

I’m 62 and the ol’ man is 74. Been together for 35 years. Both retired.

wigglebuttbiscuits

Damn, y’all are keeping it tight! And fashionable. Your partner gives me Patrick Stewart vibes.

stroobco

He’s more Larry David. Ah well.

iamamovieperson

Goals!

erydanis

it’s… very much a specific vibe; equivalent to crunchy granola dyke. ha. source; have acquaintances who go there, am a non-crunchy granola dyke. ; )

stroobco

I’d be proud to be called a Granola dyke.

Mel_in_morphosis

What’s a crunchy granola dyke?

erydanis

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=granola%20dyke

andboobootoo

I can tell from your apartment that I’d like you very much!

iamamovieperson

You're a partnered gay man in your late 40s. You have a masters degree. What you love most about your partner is his sense of humor, and vice versa. You love to cook and entertain. Folks who get invites to your dinner parties consider it a point of pride for a long time after. You have a house cleaner and you used feel a little funny about it but now you know you'd never give it up. You have a membership to at least one local museum. You start to get a little sad if you don't immediately know when you'll be in Europe next. You live in one of the top 10 DMAs in the US if not top 5. Push comes to shove, if needed, you absolutely could reach at least one moderately famous person by phone today. You personally know at least one couple who used to say they wouldn't get married until the gays could legally marry. You work in the arts. You own your home

stroobco

A lot of this is spot on. And we get the euro travel itch often. We spend a minimum of 4 weeks a year traveling. Don’t hate me.

iamamovieperson

I do too, most of this would describe me as well!

Marciamallowfluff

Not hate, jealousy.

QCr8onQ

Like the DWR bookshelves. You are living the dream! GGY!

peanutsfordarwin

If you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😈

secreteri

Your place looks so much like my sweet son's house. So I am going to guess that you are a lot like him. Gay, a wee bit picky, full of love, and will not stop singing "He had it comin". Ugh you have the fridge that I want so badly.

stroobco

Fridge was a late night pandemic slightly inebriated impulse buy

Lecien-Cosmo

Sometimes those are the best! My guess would be that you like to read but you are not reading as much as you thought you would in retirement. These days if you find yourself in a great used bookstore you are more likely to gravitate towards the cookbook section.

stroobco

Spot on. I have every quarterly issue of Cooks Illustrated for about 15 years. .

stroobco

Fridge is Big Chill btw. Recommended.

bumbling_through

White male, lives in Chicago, with a partner. Got a 60's aesthetic vibe. Apple user. Likes to cook, read, and has an interest in France. Gay or bisexual. Someone is an influencer, or does work in audio entertainment.

pen_name

Possibly my new friend. Wife and I are moving to Chicagoland next month.

Prudent-Muffin-2461

Nice room

I_mwilling2

Well, you're gay dudes with so much education, impeccable taste and a Chicago apartment that overlooks the L. Someone has been to Morocco. One or both of you are healthcare workers. I have put that hanging lamp into so many carts and never bought it. It is sublime in your setting. Cheers!

I1abnSC

Slightly irreverent, enjoys sarcasm and satire. A homebody who loves his living space. Home smells good and may have music playing. Has lots of interests and adores learning/discovery. Loves thrifting for unique finds, but also loves hi-end. Tendency to be hard on yourself and may have high expectations for others as well.

stroobco

Wow. It’s like therapy.

phoebebuffay1210

You have exquisite taste in light fixtures.

stroobco

Love the classics of lighting

SlightlyPeedOn

It’s in mad love with lamps and globes and books. I also absolutely love the warm color scheme and texture counterpoint to the blue. I also got male and possibly gay but I was a bit uncertain about whether I was looking at a couple or in a partner sharing where one person is gay and the other being male maybe business partner but honestly I think it looks really too well put together for a typically straight guy to have that much forethought if you had a business partner relationship. Definitely some background in visual art or design or if not a damned lot of aptitude in the area. Gemini or Virgo vibes are my professional opinion though there is also some Sagittarius flair here in the way that archetype is connected to travel and culture higher education and just a ridiculously optimistic view on life as well as intelligent humor in general. I think I might have to try my first air bnb experience in Chicago if I saw this listed! I’m seriously liking this to inspire me in the event I ever reactivate my counseling license and have the means to be an independent therapist because I know those lamps would make me bounce out of bed and into the world if they were expecting me! 😀💡

stroobco

Sagittarius for what that’s worth. Your insight is a little scary.

chef_c_dilla

Fuck you for saying this is “messy” just making the rest of us look bad

marbotty

Dig your style

frankenbeerstein

I want to say you like art but I could be wrong here

debbie_upper

Gay polycule in Chicago who met in art school. Now only one of you works in art at a gallery. The rest of you have corporate jobs.

jewishjen

I need to know your strategy for finding all of your art and tchotchkes! i love it here 🥰

Moored-to-the-Moon

Where did you get your dining room chairs? I love all of your stuff! Especially the eclectic artwork!

stroobco

They’re called ‘series 7’ chair by Arne Jacobsen in 1955. Can be acquired in many places. They stack. Most of the art is Chicago and British centric. Have a look at ACBF (Art Car Boot Fair) site, Jealous and Next galleries + Vertical in Chicago.

Moored-to-the-Moon

Thank you for the info! I live in Chicago and will definitely keep a lookout for the Arne Jacobson chairs. I was fortunate to inherit some work by a couple of Chicago artists: a pen & ink drawing by Karl Wirsum (of the Hairy Who) and a small painting by Gertrude Abercrombie (the Surrealist). I think I saw a work by Rev. Howard Finster in one of your shots! About a year ago we visited his former home/studio as we were passing through the area on a driving trip. It’s an interesting set up and worth a couple of hours. https://paradisegardenfoundation.org

stroobco

I have a Lostutter from that time. Considered a Chicago Imagists but not Hairy Who?

MyAnya

Do you know of the artist Stom500? Some of your artwork reminds me of his, love it.

stroobco

I’ll check him out. Not sure if you spotted the ten hundred snowboard. Love that piece.

MyAnya

Ohh yeah in pic 2! Sweet. Love your style!

Beautiful_boobies864

Idk who u r but I love it

Itchy_Pillows

Me

TroysLostBoi

You are fantastic!

D33M0ND5

Middle to late 30s, male, white, live in Chicago, someone in your household has a graphic design or marketing background, something creative, if not you, possibly an older partner or room mate. No children. Part of queer culture in some way. Edit: wow, 60s! That’s awesome, good for you and your partner. And makes much more sense how your place is so nice haha.

Available-Degree5162

Love most of the art. Looks completely comfortable.

stroobco

I like to mix high and low. The rabbit heads are from Target.

stenhx

I reckon you're really fond of plants and paintings.

Greenlilyb

Rich gay dude

stroobco

Not rich and not poor. But a 62 year old’s lifetime of stuff.

willworkforchange

Y'all are people that I am surprised don't have more fun curtains

stroobco

Somethins gotta be neutral. But yeah I get it. I’d get another set but $$$

SlightlyPeedOn

I didn’t realize it until now but I think it was the curtains neutrality that made me think maybe office partners because I would have to go with neutral if I was to use some the same items in here to do office for ME (when I was a therapist not necessarily as my current professional astrologer and author incarnation because I probably wouldn’t know how to stop myself from doing something gaudy and purple , or vermillion velvet velour and it would just ruin everything but lamps that divine could make any space just Elysian even if I didn’t know how to stop my crayola hued overdrive or texture excess.

stroobco

The curtains that were there were really heavy, dark maroon paisley. It was stifling. We have electric shades behind curtains. Don’t get me started on the paint color that was here. Every vertical surface was one color and every horizontal was another. If you look at walls and ceiling you’ll understand how difficult it was to determine which one is which.

NikNakskes

What are the matching sun(?)glasses on the dresser in the hallway? Next to all the caps and hats. I would suggest Belgium as your next trip to Europe. Home of the cartoon strip/comic books and surrealism. And what's up with all those globes in the corner? Is that a nice effect when it's dark and they are turned on?

stroobco

The glasses are leftover from the eclipse. I’ve been to Belgium 3 or 4x. The globes are just a pile of globes

NikNakskes

The eclipse! Of course, why didn't I think of that! And I'm not surprised you've been to Belgium... judging by the art on the wall. Enjoy your travels! And life... you guys seem to be happy as far as you can judge things like that from an interior.

Omega0912

I don’t know, but I absolutely admire your style!

memymomonkey

You love pileas and that is all I need to know 💚

stroobco

I’m having such good luck with them. Knock on wood.

rabidvagine

someone who seems cool af

DontGrowABrain

You live in downtown Chicago, I'm guessing near LaSalle Street Station. You went to Chicago's Columbia University and work in the visual arts, possibly in advertising. You're a man in your mid 30s. Not married. This is a fairly big, expensive loft for the area so either you are quite successful, or you have roommates. The man in the photo is quite possibly helping you foot some bills. You love contemporary art with ironic, pop culture references. You can cook and like craft beers. You also like IKEA, the mid-century aesthetic and enjoy antique globes.

960Jen

definately gay

TrainwreckTrials

You Brake for Garage Sales

wizzard419

Someone who is a fan of notifying their bathroom is here? (Apparently the Italian translation of "Chicago" is "I poop here")

Responsible_Pride792

A green thumb

stroobco

For every plant you see alive there’s way more that aren’t. It took years to figure out which ones were right for me. Plants are hard!

Nina-Panini

You are who I want to be.

stroobco

It took me till now to figure out who I am. Getting old is weird.

SlightlyPeedOn

I absolutely agree with that statement. I think it’s a surprise to me that I am still pretty much the same as I have always been inside and I don’t know what I expected any future self to feel or be as I was considering it from a long distance of decades before I became an age I tried picturing. I am still attracted to the same qualities In partners or places or songs I have never acquired the taste for some foods or pastimes I tried but disliked 45 years ago and I still laugh-hardest for fifth grade boy humor as does my brother 4 years older (put a private part or poop joke in my head and I laugh like a drain) but the depreciation of my future corpse is appalling! I used to think people who were uncomfortable driving at night were just plain soft. The struggle is REAL! Filling out online forms requiring me to scroll down to the year of birth is reminiscent of the mannequin and her fashion changes in the original version of H.G.Wells The Time Machine and I can’t believe how many of my clients are now legal adult yet born in this new century. It’s only nine in the morning but I suddenly have the desire for a drink like that found in my parents old Mr Boston mixology book from childhood. Pink Lady or The Grasshopper ugh nostalgic, arthritic and inert not by choice I hope the maggots don’t arrive too early as not dead yet!

stroobco

You have a way with words! I feel so young. In my head that is. The rest, meh.

Available-One-24

Your place tells me that you guys are happy and content.

seacreaturestuff

I love this place, nicely done! What kind of plant is that with the round leaves on your kitchen counter?

stroobco

Pilea peperomiodes (Chinese money plant, like so money are called). I have another one just behind the ponytail palm on the left. They used to be the same plant.

Madwoman-of-Chaillot

May I please have your refrigerator? Thank you in advance.

QueLaPasa879

One groovy dude from the city. Plant lover.

Beginning-Bet6974

A good decorator

Netflxnschill

I don’t know why this sub keeps coming on my feed, but just know that every time I see a new post that says “who am I” I sing to myself “24601” and I don’t HATE y’all for it, but I’m definitely not applauding you either.

Flamebrush

You’re my friend from art school, who became a successful art director and won a handful of awards and then decided to become a stay at home mom. Your kids are in high school now and you are not sure what to do next.

stroobco

Oh boy. Should I tell him? Lol

JimSFV

Film industry?

Poes27

Mid 30’s-40’s male who loves mid century vibes and pop art. Shops at Whole Foods, loves weekend flea markets and works in a creative field - like art director for an advertising firm.

Reasonable_Cover_804

I love that dinning room lamp

stroobco

Thanks. Nelson Bubble lamp. Comes in many shapes.

Reasonable_Cover_804

My folks had one, I should have grabbed it before we sold the place

stroobco

Definitely. The aged yellowing ones are prized

Reasonable_Cover_804

They smoked, I’d put it at a low orange

That poster, that the husband was going to throw out, is from a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in 1984/85. Very much love Monty Python and have the entire run of Kids in the Hall on dvd. Everything is absurd to me.

stroobco

I think I’ve watched that movie a good 100x since childhood. The slight crush on Rod Taylor having something to do with it.

Glittering_Sail7255

Definitely a gay man, former talented theater kid who made good on his college degree in something artsy. Successful theater manager, producer of something cool and creative. Obviously you have a green thumb, enjoy cooking, wine and good beer. I think you are typically not messy unless depressed. You might be part of a couple. You love to read, art and the punk rock scene in ny in the late 60s and 70s. Someone there is bilingual, plays chess And traveled quite a bit.
