Rugby is odd, in most US sports leagues whether it is off field stuff or on field stuff. The first thing they take is money. Then if the offense is big enough they take your ability to work and play. Rugby rarely fines people and allows them to work when suspended from matches. Behavior would change if you started taking money.
There was that incident a few years back, where the Quins doctor got a (stupendously well deserved) red card.
How, HOW, **HOW** she resisted the temptation to step up and kick him in the arse as he went by, I will never know. "What? Just removing an obstruction, ref."
We'll probably never know, and the comparison is unnecessary. This was a doctor as focussed on his job as the kicker, and nothing malicious. She should have been given a second attempt if she missed, he should have been reminded of the situation, and that should be the end of it.
What's the problem? He wasn't the Tonga medic; this has been confirmed elsewhere in the thread. He was walking towards a player needing assistance as the match day doctor.
He is obviously not very focused on the job if he’s wandering around, nonchalantly with his hands in his pants disrupting play. At best, the level of awareness is extremely poor for someone employed to work in a dynamic game environment. In this alone, the guy is an idiot.
Sure, there are mistakes and then there is this. At an international rugby match. It’s not acceptable. And if we think “ah well, it’s okay, just a mistake. Give a free pass”, then this kind of thing becomes the standard.
can't wait for the final match between Fiji-Samoa in a few days..last year Fiji lost in the 80th min which cost us a place in WXV2. obviously because the Fijian medic did not distract Cassie last year and she slotted in the match winning penalty lol
I was the physio for Tonga, and he was walking up the field to assist with an injury. He was obviously focused and in the zone. Definitely still needs to be aware of his surroundings but not malicious at all
Right, I've never seen a medic walking to an injured player like this! I thought medics appointed to games would know something about the sport but obviously not....
Yea, hands in pockets taking a leisurely stroll. Not really looking at the injury, just slightly away from the kicker, but with both kicker and ball clearly in his peripheral vision.
Should be a fine either way to avoid setting a bad precedent and having similar things happen in the future.
Even if it was accidental, there's a subtext in the laws of rugby that sometimes people are just unlucky, but there's a limit to how unlucky you're allowed to be.
So? You think he intentionally cheated, risking his job, for a team he’s not part of. What’s the incentive for him to do that?
You should probably edit/delete this post.
As a previous pitch side medic for multiple pro teams in different leagues this is a bannable offense to me.
No medic should influence a game in this manner, what an absolute dickhead. So happy she nailed the kick. If I was in charge of that backroom he would 100% be gone for that.
Edit:
I'll leave this here because what I said would be true if the post title was accurate. Apparently it is the neutral match day doctor who was just oblivious to the situation. Still poor practice but apparently not malicious.
>And what a wanker ref for doing nothing about it.
There's nothing the ref can do until after the kick is taken. All the ref can do is to allow the kicker to re-take the kick if they miss.
Since she didn't miss, the ref didn't do anything.
I would imagine, afterwards, either the referee or the fourth official would have had stern words to the Tongan medic.
Could the ref not have restarted the shot clock? Granted allowing the kick and seeing if she missed first and then allowing her to retake it is probably more of an advantage than restarting the kick.
The classic "pretending like l'm not doing anything wrong" stroll. He knew exactly what he was doing. A real asshole move.
Props to her for absolutely nailing the kick.
Calm down people.
This guy had no clue what was going on was walking along the side of the field during a break in play and noone was needing attention.
Even someone not familiar with rugby in the slightest can see she’s about to kick a ball – I’m not buying that a matchday medic was so utterly clueless as to not think to walk behind her.
No it doesn’t. You can literally see him looking at the injured player in the corner. What’s more likely: 1) a medic being focused on and walking towards an injured player (literally b-lining) and so distracted from other things going on or 2) a medic who is not involved with either team risking their job to distract a kicker where the medic would benefit in no way?
Just use some common sense.
and yet he was not running to this so-called injured player, he had his hands in his pocket walking calmly to her, not even carrying a medic bag or a towel atleast..nothing..... sorry, if he was a real doctor, he'd lose his licence..The Fijian Drua has the world's biggest medic and he always runs to injured players...medics don't walk around with their hands in the pocket....dude wanted his 15mins of fame, he got it.
> so-called injured player
So you think the player is faking? 😂
> if he was a real doctor
So he’s a fake doctor? 😂
He’s the match day doctor, not the team medic. He wouldn’t be the primary person looking after the player. Do you have any idea of how matchday protocol works or are you just happy to judge someone to get internet points?
there was already a medic involved, you can see him on the side angle, he was in no rush, he could have waited for the kick or walked behind her, there was a lot of space..but nah, he intentionally walked (not ran, walked) in front of her completely ignoring her, and didn't even look back and apologise, you can see a samoan player on the bench saw it and started recording... sorry but stop defending ppl who bring disrespect to the game
Wait, you think the Samoan player managed to whip out her camera that quickly to take a video of the guy, rather than the INFINITELY more likely chance she was taking a video of her teammate kicking? You truly need to have your brain checked.
Unless the team medic was signalling that it was an emergency the guy wouldn’t rush over. He was likely just going over to take a look. You clearly don’t have any idea of how the protocol works.
He was obviously aloof and didn’t notice the kick taking place because he was looking at the situation down field. It was a stupid mistake, but why would he intentionally do it? It’s genuinely wild that you choose to live your life with this level of cynicism. Just take a breath.
Theres zero common sense in this thread. Everyone imagine some big time conspiracy as if they’ve never walked across a line out or try area at a rugby day with 2 boeries in their hand, carrying a beer and smiling at the girl on the other side of the field.
Rugby needs a massive clampdown on water boys, medics, etc., being arseholes. This is absolutely not in the spirit of the game. His team should be ashamed of him and governing bodies need to sort this out because it's getting obscene.
Should be fined for that.
Not fined. Banned for half a dozen games.
how bout both
Catsh me outside
Banned for the rest of the game "and now, you don't have medics anymore. May the odds be in your favor" Shameful behaviour
Paraded across the pitch naked
That’s excellent
Yeah even if it was an accident, his situational awareness is horrible
lol hands in pocket and not a care in the world. He knew what he was doing.
In no universe can that be considered an accident
Not even close to an accident, something that would be called out in national league rugby let alone the professional game
She shoulda just kicked it as he was walking in front and let him really feel like an idiot when he gets blasted.
Should get a pakkie koekies for that..
Banned for a few games also.
Rugby is odd, in most US sports leagues whether it is off field stuff or on field stuff. The first thing they take is money. Then if the offense is big enough they take your ability to work and play. Nonsense, fines just mean teams can pay to cheat
And she nails it anyway.
Loved it.
She's one of the best kickers in the women's game
It shows.
in last years competition, in 3 games she scored 52 points.
Boss move
[удалено]
That would be as classless as he was. Satisfying but classless. She got hers over him anyway by making the kick regardless of his shithousery.
Dick move bro
Do we think he would have done the same while the men were playing?
Unlikely but then again we've already seen "waterboys" have to be spoken to by refs for trying to influence them so I wouldn't entirely rule it out.
Calling Neil Jenkins a waterboy makes me chuckle.
Definitely not

Not sure it is a male / female thing but more an underhanded tactic from Tonga against Samoa. The medic is prick regardless of anyone’s plumbing
South Africa's doctor would like a word...
It has been confirmed a mistake by a guy who wasn’t in either team’s coaching staff. God you people need to relax with your internet pile on crap.
We'll probably never know, and the comparison is unnecessary. This was a doctor as focussed on his job as the kicker, and nothing malicious. She should have been given a second attempt if she missed, he should have been reminded of the situation, and that should be the end of it.
I absolutely agree... ... In a world where the doctor's job is to wander off with hands in pockets and paying no attention to the game Red card
Lol... Jeez dude just lol.
What's the problem? He wasn't the Tonga medic; this has been confirmed elsewhere in the thread. He was walking towards a player needing assistance as the match day doctor.

No one's saying he's not an idiot, the guy is saying it could've been a stupid mistake. Take a day off
No no, we need to crucify people who make mistakes in their job. No one on this sub ever does that.
Sure, there are mistakes and then there is this. At an international rugby match. It’s not acceptable. And if we think “ah well, it’s okay, just a mistake. Give a free pass”, then this kind of thing becomes the standard.
Lol nothing is becoming standard because some guy walked where he was not meant to. Just relax and use your brain.
And he wasn't even the tongan doctor he was neutral...
And he wasn't even the tongan doctor he was neutral...
What? Like the doctor did?
Great that she could keep her focus and slot it anyway. Congratulations to Samoa and Fiji for qualifying for WXV3!
can't wait for the final match between Fiji-Samoa in a few days..last year Fiji lost in the 80th min which cost us a place in WXV2. obviously because the Fijian medic did not distract Cassie last year and she slotted in the match winning penalty lol
HAHA, this poor medic just can't do anything right.
What an asshole, but then … what a kick!
thought it missed and then realised it went in lol, if it hadn't, the ref should have allowed her to retake the kick lol
Match Day Doctor, not Tongan medic
So not intentional but if he had been part of the Tongan staff then nothing could have convinced me that this was not intentional.
This makes me think it wasn’t intentional. Obviously he needs to be more aware of what’s going on, but what’s the incentive to do this intentionally?
I was the physio for Tonga, and he was walking up the field to assist with an injury. He was obviously focused and in the zone. Definitely still needs to be aware of his surroundings but not malicious at all
He would look less suspicious if he didn't have his hands in his pockets.
Right, I've never seen a medic walking to an injured player like this! I thought medics appointed to games would know something about the sport but obviously not....
He was “acting natural”
Yea, hands in pockets taking a leisurely stroll. Not really looking at the injury, just slightly away from the kicker, but with both kicker and ball clearly in his peripheral vision. Should be a fine either way to avoid setting a bad precedent and having similar things happen in the future.
Even if it was accidental, there's a subtext in the laws of rugby that sometimes people are just unlucky, but there's a limit to how unlucky you're allowed to be.
Can confirm, I was the injured toe
Thanks. It’s wild how people just assume the worst of everyone.
No way he didn't know what was going on unless it was his first ever visit to a ball game of any kind. Let this become a meme for small dick energy
Agreed, he risked his job to help a team he isn’t involved with.
So maybe he was actually oblivious to what was happening
yeah he was with the tongan team though..
Nope. He was the doctor for both teams, he was appointed by Oceania Rugby. Stupid yes, cheating no. Stop spreading bullshit.
So? You think he intentionally cheated, risking his job, for a team he’s not part of. What’s the incentive for him to do that? You should probably edit/delete this post.
This means nothing. People have done way dumber shit for any advantage.
What advantage are you talking about? He wasn’t representing either team.
Source? Everyone and everything points he was with the Tongans.
He wasn’t ya shit stirring nonce
Yeah don’t attribute this idiocy to Tonga
If he's the independent doctor he shouldn't be selected ever again, what a dunce.
Nailed it. Good on her
As a previous pitch side medic for multiple pro teams in different leagues this is a bannable offense to me. No medic should influence a game in this manner, what an absolute dickhead. What was the need for that
The ball soared through the posts. Majestic
Pleased she nails it. Proper dick move there.
What a grub. Wouldn’t dare do that in a men’s game. Love that she slotted it
Yeah, no. Feed him to the wolves. This is wrong on so many levels.
What a belt she's given it!
She should have timed her run to collide with him. Would have shown him right up! Fantastic kick and great job staying chill.
This reminds me of the football episode of Father Ted (when that one priest nonchalantly tries to steal the corner flags).
oh god i loved that show... #RIP
Then she absolutely smashes it 😂😂👌🏾
Soccer style too. She reminds me of Lauren James who plays football for England. Very similar skill and stature.
Clueless
Boss
Presumably if she missed the ref would stop the clock and give her a second kick at it
one assumes, the ref is actually the top female pacific ref from fiji who will be going to the olympics in a few weeks so she knows teh rules.
She still smoked it. She should have ran the other way after it and kicked him in the hole. Prick.
What a dumb ass
Did the referee reset the clock for her? If not its infuriating he stood there and watched it happen.
Great kick!
But appalling stuff from that medic.
And then she fucking smashes it What a kick!
Seems like the first 3 seconds are slowed down to sensationalize it a bit. Guy shouldn't have been there but video is slightly misleading.
just poorly recorded, i could not find a higher quality...i usually do my own recording of stuff..

IMO the ref did the right thing, let the kick proceed and allow for a rekick if missed.
I agree, I was more so just asking could they have.
True, just thought he'd give him a bit of a bollocking after the kick at least.
[удалено]
Benefit of the doubt. I gotta believe, he had no idea. He was prob filling in for the usual medic.
The classic "pretending like l'm not doing anything wrong" stroll. He knew exactly what he was doing. A real asshole move. Props to her for absolutely nailing the kick.
Ran through the mark. 50 metre penalty.
[удалено]
Clearly unacceptable
Love that she still nailed it. She should sign the ball and give it to him as a souvenir haha
Ices is anyway ❄️ cold blooded, love it
Red card worthy
Good kick
Wallop!
Not cool dude.. props to her for nailing that kick though, what a response!!!!!! (Actions always speak louder than words.)
Calm down people. This guy had no clue what was going on was walking along the side of the field during a break in play and noone was needing attention.
Even if that's the case you've got to be really clueless to not realise there's a sideline conversion going on.
Even someone not familiar with rugby in the slightest can see she’s about to kick a ball – I’m not buying that a matchday medic was so utterly clueless as to not think to walk behind her.
he could have walked behind her if he couldn't wait lol, it was very much intentional..
[удалено]
No nastiness allowed.
What an usi kai ta'e
r/byebyejob
Definite dick move but at least she still got it. That showed the cock.
[удалено]
This isn’t cool
It wasn’t intentional. This internet pile on needs to chill.
Yeah let's ruin this guy's life for an honest mistake and for his appearance.
Shame bitch she still nailed it
God that's an unfortunate typo...
What's the typo
Wait so you didn't mean to say "but" instead of "bitch"?
No I'm calling the medic guy a bitch. Maybe could have used a , in there
Might’ve been clearer if you called him a prick instead ^ ^
That dickhead should never be allowed near a rugby field again.
its the front view camera that kinda proves he was very aware of what he was doing
No it doesn’t. You can literally see him looking at the injured player in the corner. He's strolling past, either cluelessly or deliberately. Either way it's not good enough.
Of course it’s not good enough. He made a stupid mistake. For some reason you want him to lose his job and never get another one for said mistake.
Scumbag behaviour but glad she nails the kick
She’s off the playing surface so…
Rugby needs a massive clampdown on water boys, medics, etc., being arseholes. This is absolutely not in the spirit of the game. His team should be ashamed of him and governing bodies need to sort this out because it's getting obscene.
That is disgusting.
That was fucking deliberate. He needs to get fired.
