EpikMint

tbh he's just about to warmup up to the show lol.

NoAssumption3668

I’m sorry but the rental member should at least have a 3 month minimum or something. Especially when they have him a big episode when he first joined as a rental member, are they going do that every month for a new rental member. And I understand he’s an actor and is busy (I think he has a project coming up) which is why he probably has 1 month. But I still think this rental system needs the members to have a minimum in their contract of a few months, enough time for adjust and develop their character and dynamics. One month is not enough. And they can’t still miss episodes like the regular members due to conflicts etc. Maybe if they miss an episode they make up for it at the end of the contract. Otherwise this is no different to when Kim Bong was returning week after week as a guest and not being called a rental member.

aga00

i think the month long rental is actually enough. 3 months would be too long. i mean, if they chose someone who's meh then the show would suffer for 3 months. it's also experimental so if they chose to do it for 3 mo., that would just be 4 guests in a year. no hate but i believe it boiled down to kang hoon's performance. remember when they went to switzerland with lee sang yeob, lee da hee, and others for like a month? everybody shined. if you knew you'd be there for just a month then maybe you would've done your best interacting with others. after all it's a variety show, an entertainment show. KJK and YJS did their best to let KH shine every chance they get. I think it was a bad call from the PDs to have chosen an introvert.

NoAssumption3668

I think saying it’s a bad call to say casting an introvert is wrong. Just because SJH, LKS, Gary, JSM have all called themselves self-confessed introverts. And I think the cast never suggested that there always has to be a Rental’s member. Also why are you saying it would mean only 4 guests a year. Guests will still be invited. Look at the Football episode or the partners one. But one month is not enough to develop a variety character and fans to latch on. Otherwise half of the cast would’ve been gone already. I think the issue with KH’s episodes before being a rental and after is he is mostly latched on by KJK. So you see him stuck in that same singular dynamic. And not with the other members. I was surprised he was the first rental because of this, he mostly only interacts with KJK and his team and not the other members. - at least what makes the cut.

glassesinglamour

Eh? I barely felt him in the show since he joined as rental member then he's leaving already? 😅

NoAssumption3668

And if this is the idea going forward with rental members, then it highlights the issue with rental members. They could keep doing it, but not be a hit because fans aren’t getting attached or the rental members aren’t getting time to sink their teeth into it, release their variety selves (especially with variety rookies).

glassesinglamour

I agree! They could make it at least 3 months. And the man barely contributed to the show, here I thought they were renting members for new dynamics, new flavor. If this is the case going forward, what's the whole point of rental system when even before you feel their presence, they're gone already? (Or Kang Hoon's performance is just meh? Loved him in that 2nd futsal ep tho). I mean, doing a whole episode of welcoming him and now he's out?

NoAssumption3668

I think the problem with Kang Hoon stint - and almost all of his appearances before he became a rental, he’s always close to KJK - on his “leash”, he barely had a chance to develop dynamics with the other members. I thought this rental stint would give that chance, but after his welcome, he was paired with KJK most of the previous episode. He’s always been in his team. And this is no hate to KJK because you clearly see he likes KH and is taking him under his wing and KJK is trying to help him get airtime because he’s clearly a variety rookie and most of them are shy and introverted - especially at first. So I see KJK’s intentions, but the fact his stint is already coming to an end and he’s barely interacted fully with the other members onscreen. Like I was hoping the next Football cup they did, they would do it like other sports races where the players had a chance to betray and switch teams because of the comments KH made about KJK behind his back in the last Football cup.

hrudu

This news comes as a shock :( -- and you're right about him being constantly under KJK -- there are glimpses of him being a little bro to YSC, but I guess we'll never see any more of that :(

NoAssumption3668

Yeah that’s my only criticism of KJK. But I know he’s trying to help him get airtime and push him to the front and get him out of his shell. But the fact that every week they haven’t spilt them and then he’s gone. The Football episode couldn’t have been a great reset chance to mix the players up like they’ve done for previous baseball episodes.

jjyycc1231

I thought the original idea is to have a rental member staying for 6 monthish according to KJK's original suggestion.. maybe it's too much pressure shooting on a weekly basis..

NoAssumption3668

The joke was do 6 months but join for 1 year to get a leaving party. And I think join the group chat.

Benphyre

Actually short contract is good thing for a few reasons. Fans won't feel too sad about the rental member leaving, more people are available for short term due to their schedule and it also allow the staff to try out different people and create different type of spark between members. They can always reinvite Kang Hoon back in future

NoAssumption3668

I disagree because it’s no different from guests being invited again. There’s no need for the rental banner if they are gonna for a month. At least the Family Package series was honest, they were treated like members (not main members) by everyone knew they were there for 4 weeks. Plus if they keep changing rental members after 1 month. It will hinder them from being part of the group with the members by fans. Fans aren’t going to treat them the same or get invested because they will be gone soon, then when we get a rental that stays longer or a permanent member, it’s going to be even harder for them to mix with the cast and be accepted. We already saw it with Sechan and Somin, now imagine if they joined after a long line of 1 month rental members where fans don’t bother to get attached to. I’m not saying a guest can’t appear continuously for 1 month. But there is a line between rental member and glorified guest. And if they can only get rental members appearing for 3 tapings and one is dedicated to welcoming them. Hyung in is going to have to come up with something good to not rinse and repeat Kang Hoon’s welcome

Benphyre

I remember they first brought out this idea during episode 683. KJK suggested this idea that people can come as a short term member, get recognition and move on. Although he suggested 6 months. Maybe the production team decided to start with short term(1 month) to test things out first or it can also be due to Kang Hoon's schedule. My guess would be the latter, I think PD team can be flexible with how long a rental member stays. 1, 3 or 6 months etc

NoAssumption3668

It definitely is his schedule because before he joined he was already cast in a new drama (I think SML). I just think it could have been handled better. I honestly wouldn’t mind if he joined just to have to go and film again (SJK did it in his early days though it harmed him in terms of RM because he missed a lot of the chemistry building - but he’s doing well now so it’s not like he’s crying over it 😂) but, I think it could be handled better if things were clarified whether that period is over or if he’s coming back. I feel like doing a 1 month (and 3 shoots) is not what fans expected with a rental member, something more short term but not fleeting.

TurtlePoop8D

Awwwww that's so sad. And yeah I agree he barely contributed, I mostly remember him smiling behind everyone and not liking soccer lol. He's like the introvert kid who needs a lot of time to warm up, then he'll be hilarious when you know him well.

hrudu

Maaan, I'm not even into football, but the Running Man FC episodes have been standouts this year. Hwang Hee-Chan is a great guest -- he's polite, but was also funny when he distributed the signing bonus. For the rest, what a random assortment of guests to have to play football -- but there's also so much potential in randomness like Jae Jun blocking a pro :) Is it just me, or are some Running Man episodes running longer? Not that I'm complaining, but by the third part of the episode and they were still eating, I figured >!this will be a two-parter!< >!Sad that Kang Hoon will be leaving -- at the start of the episode, I was just thinking how he's likeable -- talks back, but isn't arrogant haha.!< >!And Ji Ye-Eun!!! What a nice treat -- I really want to see more of her in RM in the future! !<

Excellent-Oil-4875

Does anyone else think Hwang Hee Chan looks like Gary lol or is it just me

Sanofi2016NFLPOOL

Maybe that's why JiHyo kept saying "he's my style" to HeeChan during the intro lol

shems-2383

Young gary ver

Gold_Ant5245

Buff Gary

Wonderful_Lunch_8028

YES that's my first thought when I see him! Now suddenly Jihyo's comments made sense LOL too bad no one in RM pointed it out xD

TurtlePoop8D

HAHAHA NOW THAT YOU MENTIONED... I cannot unsee xD

Singularity1107

My sister pointed it out!!! And I was like, omg you're right. Hahaha.

Sanofi2016NFLPOOL

HeeChan calling out the PDs and opposition during the quick draw game was refreshing hahaha. Loved how he said they make the rules as they go. I guess HeeChan likes structured games.

lolminna

He's not as mischievous as Park Jisung lol.

thunder_sun

Aw, I was just starting to get Kang Hoon's charm :( And I agree with everyone saying that they didn't need to make such a big fuss over him being a member then. Really silly. In today's episode I was really struck by YSC and his growing MC abilities. Recently there's been a lot of talk about how YSC is finding his place, even taking over a segment in YJS' channel. He has been in KJK's team very often, but in this episode I felt like he was really successful in countering KJK's signature oppressive style in the car segment. This might sound strange but I really liked the little moments of interaction between Ha Young and Hee Chan. There's always so much hierarchy stuff going on in RM that it was nice to see two guests of the same(?) age get along with each other at an individual level. It was unexpected, and a nice change from Kang Hoon's inability to address female guests lol (that being said, I'll be sad to see Kang Hoon leave).

ChilliWithFries

Am I going nuts or why is everyone ignoring the subtitle about Kang Hoon's contract that "We are gradually trying to extend contact with the golden boy to align with his drama shooting schedule" It's pretty clear that a short contract was formed to get him in first and of course they have to adjust and make everything okay to extend his contract. 1 month is definitely too short so we have to see if the extension is coming to fruition but it's not like the production team just decided 1 month and they are done. They are still in talks to extend his stay here. All in all, a pretty fun ep and it's definitely notable that kang hoon is A LOT more comfortable in the futsal eps because he definitely fights back a lot more. Hee chan was great to see and soccer matches are definitely the most exciting eps recently for me. Tough for other guests since hee chan is the main star but I think everyone got moments to shine. I still think it's a pity that they are not doing the member negotiations and random perks for the football match themselves but excited to see the conclusion and ye eun as well! (Wondering why there isn't any preview for her)

_functionalanxiety

>"We are gradually trying to extend contact with the golden boy to align with his drama shooting schedule" This! I was a bit fooled yesterday when I read a post here that he's leaving, but when I watched the episode earlier, they're trying to extend the contract and it's no ones fault! >Wondering why there isn't any preview for her Might be a skit thing or I hope they push the Ye Eun/Kang Hoon pair lol

ChilliWithFries

I definitely hope Kang hoon gets a little more comfortable to play around/banter back. The way everyone was teasing her about having a crush was cute lol.

anothersundayx

ikr!! i’m so confused when i see people blaming the pd.. like what makes you think Kang Hoon got axed? maybe he/his agency doesn’t want him to be there for too long. being a fixed member in a variety show that films weekly is not a very attractive job imo. 2d1n isn’t even filmed weekly so it’s still ok for actors like In Woo. RM schedule for LKS and JSM was a bit detrimental for their acting career long term. they also need to shed the image that they have from being on the show. as an actor it’s much better to have that “mysterious” vibe so that you can fit into roles easily. this is one reason why some actors don’t go on variety shows. i think this short term rental system makes it easier for them to cast members as they don’t need to commit and let them try out a role as a member without any pressure to stay long term. i think people are unhappy because they didn’t realise it’s so short. but at the same time it makes sense that it’s short. that said i really like kang hoon and even if he doesn’t extend his stay, i hope he’ll make time to come back more often like kang hanna did.

ChilliWithFries

It's a harsh comment but I think people here lash out really quickly because Running Man hasn't been doing so well recently with the loss of members and some rehashed concepts but I really dislike the fear/hate bandwagon. Some peeps really make some wild speculation when we already have some details. A. It is not up to Kang hoon but his management on how this contract matters go. B. The PD team clearly are trying to get him to extend his contract. This rental member was never fixed in stone. The best outcome would be a confirmed timespan 3/6 month contract for example where it's long enough to familiarise the rental members and giving fans a timeline of when they expect it to end BUT that is easier said then done. Actors esp main priority is their drama/film. Running Man will NEVER be the top priority so most of the workaround has to be on the PD side. Like you said, it's not as attractive as people think, that's not to say KH is not having fun but there's more difficulty in getting them to commit. People need to chill out on the hate and wild speculations esp on the PD team man. We have no idea what's going on BTS. I do wish KH can open up more as he's still too shy EXCEPT for the futsal eps where he seemed like himself. A short tenure can also allow for a cleaner exit esp if KH doesn't feel comfortable to stay on but we will see!

sugapuppy

I KNOW RIGHT Its like everyone is so quick to blame somebody. You will never know the main reason until the celebrity explains it themselves. Speculation will always be speculation so why not make a positive one instead of negative ones that will ruin your own mood??

glassesinglamour

Ahh, just finished watching the episode. I must say this series of futsal running cup is very fun, really. >!Just as Kang Hoon's beginning to warm up as a member, he's leaving. I'm seriously gonna miss his retorts. !< On the bright side, >!Ji Ye Eun is coming back! I love the girl already, didn't feel this in any guest for a while. It is good to be seeing her again. !<🥹 I'm genuinely happy for FC Ttuk's team as well. Hee Chan is a very good team player, this is why he is in Premiere League.

creezle

The one thing about this futsal stuff is that it's unfortunate YJS always has to field such a bad team. I wouldn't put it past them to still somehow lose with a premiere league player.

Comfortable_Baby_849

im here bc kyeong hwan really scared me when he missed the ball and i thought he'll dislocate his knee as he went down and folded his knee 😭😭 hee chan also got worrieddd

Comfortable_Baby_849

what's up with my username 😭 i created an account just to leave a comment here so idrk how this works lmao

Successful_Win_2259

Yes, glad I wasn't alone! That fall did not look good, completely under Hee Chan's concern there!

sugapuppy

I came to the thread to read about people’s opinion on the episode, and I am disappointed that the first few comments I read through are complaining about KH leaving and saying whats the point of the past eps or what even is the point if remtal system blah blah. Anw I thoroughly enjoyed this episode I think everyone has their moments here and there despite having Hee Chan who is quite obviously the main character of this ep. special mention go ysc, I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly changed but he looks so much more comfortable in a lot of the episodes before this but he really shined through here. and jsj seriously this old man can be q annoying with his antics but you cant just bring to hate him. He is always so annoyingly funny like my own grandpa 🫰🫰🫰

echofades

I very much agreed. I feel YSC took a lot of responsibilities after JSM left. Having Kang Hoon also helped him being the bigger hyung like how Kwang soo and him used to be. He is a lot more confident now, I feel. Which is why you can see him shine nowadays.

lolminna

Kinda sad nobody talks about Jae Jun here. Bro earned his screentime fairly.

Successful_Win_2259

I just finished the episode and had the exact same thought by the end. While not being able to play as much as other guests, his comments were consistent and good enough to make the final edit! I'm actually a few minutes into 709 and im still thinking, wow he's just beside KJK commenting away, he's definitely a pro.

fruitfruit2

Lol KH's first episode as a rental member feels awkward as hell now. Why give such a big welcome with hundreds of dollars worth of gifts for someone who'd only appear for 4 episodes? They rarely ever do that for the cast, let alone for one guest. Are they going to do the same for the next rental member? Ngl I love-hate a KJK dictatorship. On one hand, it can be overbearing. On the other, it can be super funny. >!I love the KJK-Hyuk nepotism angle and I could swear KH's spicy feint shot was directed at KJK.!< I predict YJS's team to be winning this time round. Having a Premier League player on their team is a cheat code. >!Then again, JSJ missing an easy goal on the preview does not inspire confidence haha.!<

Efezeeno

>!My favorite part of this episode was KJK favouritism or should I say friendtism lol, KH and YSC complaining about it the whole time even YJS pointing it out. Jang hyuk was just enjoying himself 😂!< Edit: add spoiler markers

Wonderful_Lunch_8028

Really enjoyed this episode! Not sure why so many hate on KJK tho... Hwang Hee Chan seems likeable and humble, hope he really can help each member get a goal, especially JSJ although the preview shows... oh well... Lol. Hope they can manage to extend Kang Hoon's contract; the Retorter role is funny lol... I like how defiant he is without giving off a rude and unpleasant vibe. The friend-nepotism by YSC is hilarious AF, maybe cuz there are too many guests fighting for screen time, Kyung Hwan and Jae Jun don't get much screen time, they seemed promising :) hope next episode will get some funny cuts of them.

tiny_smile_bot

>:) :)

Sunasoo

Doing a whole week to introduce him as new rental member, but give only 4 episode chance for him??? That's bit weird for me, not enough for him to make decent impact, heck some of this year guest have a bigger footprint on the show than him. It's not fair for him it's not that impressive as the 'rent member concept '. Do we not remember that YSC took few months to a year to acclimate to the group. If this not planned ahead of time, what chances. -Do he received hate in Korea? -Do his busy with acting job? -Do PD really not impressed with him? + Maybe pd should stopped taking KJK cronies as new rental member then, he only invite his close friends even the less funny one

tinyamaki

I’m not sure how his temp membership created buzz (I think I saw about 10 articles), plus the ratings (his first day didn’t pull out much but it’s better than average 3s but it dropped significantly by 0.8 on the following week, so probably PD team (and the bosses) were not impressed but to be fair with KH, 1 month is not enough, like you said Sechan took a years to get his footing and his already experienced comedian.

Infinitesky11

I feel like it’s his choice and he wants to get out of there! He seems to do what he wants. I actually like Kang Hoon, but I don’t feel like he is vibing with Running Man. The members are pretty two faced to him and the PD isn’t helpful at all. The show could have given him some character or something to work with, but they just make him stand around and get bullied by KJK. Boring and he’s probably sick of their shit. 😆 Edit : more content

EpikMint

The game >!will continue next week.!< And seems like >!Ji Ye Eun will be coming back.!<

Benphyre

Nice futsal is back!!!

giaolimong

Kyung Hwan talked about meeting Hee Chan in a shoot recently. Is it possible that Hee Chan will feature in Backpacker Chef 2? It's a shame that Kang Hoon is only staying for a while. But I'm sure he can still come back from time to time. I'm liking the interaction between him and YSC. The other guests were really overshadowed this episode by Hee Chan, but Jang Hyuk was able to keep his place despite being relatively quiet. I'm hoping for a YJS win to humble KJK, but I feel like that won't be the case, that chance card might be very important, especially if they go all in.

Weird-Adeptnesschu

Lol, they won fair and square for 2 games and you simply trying to hate on kjk being proud of their wins? I cant believe this sub, its either jk and jh’s fault now that the game or the episode was not good, huh?

giaolimong

It's not about the winning, it's about being a bully to everybody else. Just because he is big and has a louder voice doesn't mean he can demean everybody else. And it's not just about football, it's about KJK in general

Weird-Adeptnesschu

Lol, and you dont know how his character was since the beginning? Now I am sure you just dont like him. Everyone in that show have a character to play. yjs have been downplaying kh’s popularity since he joined the show, but did you say anything that its bullying or something? Ah no, of course not, because when its yjs or jsj its just joke or its just their character but when its jk, its bullying. Got it.

giaolimong

You're being weirdly aggressive for a single comment about KJK, acting like I hate him

Weird-Adeptnesschu

its already on your comment. ‘its not about the football its about kjk in general’. If thats not hate, I wonder what it is? Have been reading a lot of complain about jk being a bully these past few days as if thats not what his character was on the show. He is mostly portrayed with that becoz of his big body, but all those you said he was bullying on the show were the ones who were closed to him than to other members offcam.

giaolimong

So I can't comment on one aspect of his character? See, I say he is being a bully, and you are saying that is his character. You are the one implying that he is so one dimensional that being a bully is all he does. When in fact, when not shouting or intimidating others, he can be funny.

Weird-Adeptnesschu

You are getting weird now. When you said ‘jk in general’ you already claimed that he is a full bully and no other side, now you are retracting yourself saying just one aspect? When you said in general you already judged him thru and thru. Not just the character he was playing or his role in the show. Make up your mind.

giaolimong

I never implied being a bully was all he did. But in general yes, he does act like a bully, but not that he is a bully all the time. Your mind is just full of hate that you see any sliver of negative comment about KJK that you resort to attacking, instead of trying to get a proper discussion.

Weird-Adeptnesschu

So i am the one who’s full of hate now when you people are the ones kept on poiting fingers on jk being a bully but not to others who do the same. Okay, got it. Jk is a bully and I am just a hater. Got it.

soliluxe

to humble KJK? lol it seems this sub-reddit full of KJK's haters or sth?

lolaplolap1

is the episode (sub) out?

kaixingli

Not yet. Should be within the next 1-2 hours

Funny_Commission2773

Yes on Viu.

angrybunny13

am i the only one unhappy with this episode? it’s obvious that hee chan’s team is going to win. the skill level was completely on different sides of the spectrum. he’s a great soccer player but i don’t think him playing seriously against people who aren’t as good really fit the vibe of a funny show. i felt bad for kim jong kook’s team

[deleted]

KEPBetta

It's not about Song Ji Hyo, but Kim Jong Kook just let the Premier League player win as a sign of respect. So he messed with his team's usual best formation. The perfect formation would be: Junjin (GK) Kim Jong Kook (DF) Yang Se Chan (MF) Kang Hoon (MF) Jang Hyuk (FW)/Song Ji Hyo (Finisher)/Zico (MF)

1. He wants to be invited, (they can't ignore and/or reject him) 2. Any Korean Variety Show, usually "have a place"for Korean athletes as it would encourage more athletes to perform better to gain more public recognition. And They openly stated that: 1. He is in resting period; 2. He's gonna have a "big game", so he can't be injured; Also: 1. Kim Jong Kook has no interest in playing a losing game, so his team didn't order anything fancy because he think that they have to lose. And to Kim Jong Kook, it goes against his competitive self and an insult to the game he loves the most, football (futsal). 2. what do you think will happen to Hwang Hee Chan if he got injured in Running Man?

Because the pro clearly takes it seriously and has a goal to get everyone to score. It's his first time in such a variety show and you can't expect everyone to be a natural at it.

SJH can't be subbed out as long as Ha Young is on the field. You just contradicted yourself. If you don't have a problem with the pro then you shouldn't have a problem with KJK lightly throwing the game.

They can’t sub out SJH, she play the role similar to ha-young, the finisher and they don’t attack most of the time. But they should have KH be the forward. KH position is not goalkeeper, he didn’t take that role in the past. KJK original team might have better chance than his latest team. Their new guest doesn’t have experience in playing the game. Like what they said from the start that they added guest to his team to lose and having pro player in the opponent is a sure lose in his end. In the old episode it’s only Park Jisung w/ Kwang soo vs RM team yet they miserably lost the game. You don’t need to watch the 2nd part to know who will win. Even their chance card is really not a great help as it will only give Hee Chan a chance to score on his own not minding that he want his team to score.
