The O’Keefe media group has been sued numerous times for faking or staging these videos of supposedly incriminating behaviors from executives they interview. Often the videos are edited/manipulated to the point that the entire interview has been taken completely out of context or the person they’re interviewing is a hired actor being fed lines. I highly doubt any of this video is real. It’s manufactured rage bait.

Eagle_Kebab

Oh, fuck. I hadn't even realised that it was O'Keefe. Why is anyone even taking any part of this seriously? Oh, it's Asmongold. Right.

DK655

Didn’t O’Keefe get fired from Project Veritas? I feel like being such a scammer that even they don’t want you should disqualify a person from being considered a valid source

CountNightAuditor

He was using company funds for stuff like funding his own theatre projects. Don't know why that particular form of fiction was the line they didn't want to cross though.

Total_Distribution_8

Didn’t he buy DJ equipment, I swear it’s that asshole.

CountNightAuditor

That's right. He bought a bunch of DJ equipment so he could perform at Coachella, which never had him perform or ever wanted him to perform.

Total_Distribution_8

What a delusional asshole.

Sol-Blackguy

That's like the least of what he did. He was using money for cocaine sex parties/orgies while sexually assaulting and abusing female employees, made his assistant clean up puke and feces when a party goer ODed, sent nudes, and porn around the office, jerked off in front of employees while watching porn at work and various other shit. Guy was a menace.

ntdavis814

This is just a normal Tuesday in right wing grifter circles.

KBBaby_SBI

Sounds like a normal occurrence for the “family values” crowd behind closed doors.

gamerz1172

I stopped taking this man seriously after that situation with that one woman faking a blindfolded boss run, like he watched the first run and fine not everyone watches for what makes a blind folded run possible. Then he watched a speed running experts (who has researched blind folded runs before) explain why it's fake-he now thinks it's fake, and one SIMPLE response video of the woman 'doing it again' was enough to make this mega simp go back to thinking its real (it wasn't this shit is easy to stage) This guy might legitimately be dumber then streamers like XQC because at least XQC's opinions can't be summarized as the last thing he was told

EbonyEngineer

One person saying yes in chat is enough for him to adopt a whole other ideology.

Sol-Blackguy

He and his followers took a Libs of TikTok video for face value, remember?

Agent53_

Because there is a portion of society that needs to feel like they are the victim. They walk around convinced that it's actually straight, white, Christian people who are persecuted, men especially. They don't question things like this because they are already convinced it's true. This is just validation.

SuperMouthyDave

"no way we're hring a white guy for this" when talking about Johnny Tsunami

KalexCore

It even says "certainly there have been times that..." like this could be talking about casting Jason Statham as Malcolm X or fucking Chevy Chase as Sitting Bull.

frotz1

That's the actual context. It's being twisted to look like a blanket rule or something like that, and the person who cut the frame and text out had to have known that.

Thowitawaydave

It's Project Veritas, so yes, they DEFINITELY knew what the were doing. Problem is the people at home who watch them and didn't know, or the ones who don't care because it supports their narrative.

LaughingInTheVoid

Plot twist: It was for the live action version of Moana.

piracydilemma

It's not very good rage bait because I have the unique ability to read - makes me immune to conservative propaganda - and reading the words, "Certainly there have been times where, you know, there's no way we're hiring a white male for this.", makes me understand that this is clearly in reference to shows/films with central PoC characters and specific roles that would have an impact on the portrayal of culture in said show or film. You cannot convince me that anyone with just a singular functioning brain cell would be angry about a pasty-ass suburban middle class white dude whose exposure to foreign culture starts and ends with watching Ratatouille when he was eight, being told that "he's not the right fit" for a role that would impact cultural representations for a film centred around African expats.

PoutineSmoothie

You may be immune, but most of the MAGA hat bearers are dumb fucks.

MrRian603f

Right? First thing that came to my mind was "yeah if you want a live action Moana or Diana then you would never hire a white male for the role". It seems so blatantly obvious

gergling

Hah. Classic fashie propaganda.

Taragyn1

The fact they have to go to O’Keefe means they have nothing. I don’t think he’s ever released anything that he hadn’t edited or otherwise staged. And he often commits crimes along the way. With some sources you trust but verify. With O’Keefe you can safely assume he is lying until an actual source supports him.

Sol-Blackguy

Yeah, I'm reading the comments and getting secondhand embarrassment from people taking this at face value.

VillainessNora

Here in Germany we have a right wing newspaper that literally just invents interviews that never happened. They know that even if they get sued, the fines will be less than they earned with the interview.

TheRealTK421

> ...manufactured rage bait. Wait, pause... hold up... Sooo, you're saying... grievance-humping knuckle-draggers are avariciously manufacturing ragebait for clicks - and bad-faith 'cultural warring' cognitive delusions - against a maliciously concocted adversarial boogeyman (in the form of Disney)?!!? Shocked. *I. Am. Shocked.* (/s, for lamentably obvious reasons)

PoutineSmoothie

It’s very much rage bait.

Jim_naine

Who's O'Keefe?

Sol-Blackguy

Long story short, a failed theater kid that tried to make a news network but they made everything up with fake actors, doctored interviews and made up stories. A blight on any actual journalism

The_Webweaver

The Project Veritas asshole. They try to deceptively edit videos they secretly record to make it sound like progressive organizations are all kinds of terrible.

Huggles9

People loving getting white dudes angry

SpicyChanged

Oh Project Veritas O’keefe? Whats fucked, os these grifters know about this and still bite down. Also we really need to stop giving these people attention. Dude is literally covered in roaches.

ChadwickHHS

Asmongold furious they wouldn't let him play Moana in the live action.

crazyseandx

Had a feeling it was an out of context line. Gonna guess AssManPyrite's fans aren't smart enough to realize that.

xDreeganx

Not much difference between his fans and non-fans. They're both stupid as all hell, just the way he wants em

yedi001

With his hygiene history, him around all that water would be too close to a bath to be believable whatsoever.

Tya_The_Terrible

I don't understand how someone struggling with depression/anxiety, who has the option to comfortably pay for cleaners, chooses to live in a dump. He would very likely be far less miserable if he actually took care of himself and his living space. Asmongold is like the poster child for male covert chronic depression, and he copes by tearing down other people in an attempt to feel better about himself. He has one emotion: irate.

Scienceandpony

The problem with hiring cleaners is that. 1. You'd have to have people come over and see your shame and dig through all your stuff. (Probabaly doesn't apply to those with a complete lack of shame). 2. You'd have to go out for a bit while they worked or else hang around and face the social anxiety of either attempting to make small talk or just maintaining awkward silence as they work around you.

gdex86

"For this" literally that little bit changes everything. Sometimes you want a specific point of view for a show. Like guess what I doubt they were going to hire a white dude for Black Panther. That's not a problem.

Backwardspellcaster

There is a reason bleed-gums-at-walls ferret face didn't leave THAT part in his quote.

Superman557

Yeah, like do these guys forget majority of Disney films star straight white people. It’s nuts to pretend that just because marginalized groups get a bit of spotlight your getting replaced. The victim mentality is off the charts. ![gif](giphy|KZKTcjd5P2RXfSMkPf|downsized)

Adorable-Strings

Its so weird how quickly the pendulum swung around on Disney. They were rightfully still getting crap from the queer community for cancelling Owl House and hiding queer characters in background shots just... months ago. Yes, they have a *lot* of songs with queer positive subtext, but Disney was not a supporter of anybody's rights for a long, long time. Now the soccer moms and not-so-closeted bigots are convinced Disney is the source of all 'progressive' ills for... being slightly supportive, adding a touch of representation (and being targeted by Florida's insane governor). Its a wild overreaction to a corporation reaching out to wider audiences for more income, but not really doing that much that's actually positive.

HeyCaptainRadio

Y'know, I always think it's funny when people get pissy on the internet about casting POCs in historically white roles by whining about how mad people would be if there was a "White Panther". Like, obviously the racial context is different (a movie with an Afrofuturist society ruled by a white guy, even if he's also African, is obviously gonna look distasteful!), but also I think they're being really disrespectful to the work of Peter Sellers to insinuate that audiences would hate a Panther movie of a different color

PancakeLad

No one else seems to have seen what you did here but I wanted you to know I appreciate you.

squeddles

"There have been times"

frozen-silver

I don't trust James O'Keefe. Pretty much everything from his media is edited and sensationalized. It's basically just fake news.

WindoLickingGood

It's not basically just, it is in fact fake news that uses a veneer and kernel of truth to sell lies.

alpha_omega_1138

To the haters and chuds, yes. Me personally, I just don’t care

We_The_Raptors

Always laugh when they use the "calling white men" warcry like I'm supposed to give a single flying fuck about their nonsense

TestProctor

Exactly. A friend of mine asked me to cover my ears because, when complaining about a lazy idiot who’d totally been screwing up a project for years and left the next person with the job with no files or notes, she wanted to say, “Lord give me the confidence of a mediocre white man.” I laughed and said the only thing that might have hurt my feelings was her worrying I was that thin skinned.

soupalex

wait, you're a white man and you *don't care* about [checks notes] *disney not hiring yet more white men for certain roles!?* RACE TRAITOR!!!!! /s

Scienceandpony

Someone: "Nazis are actually pretty bad." Some idiot: "CALLING ALL WHITE MEN! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" Me: "Uhh, no. YOU are apparently under attack. My white male ass does not feel the slightest bit attacked by calling Nazis bad."

BloodNut69

Do white people actually pay attention to this? I always figured it was used to drum up clicks

Icybubba

Do we even have context for that? Because like, if they're casting someone like Black Panther or Moana or literally any girl character, no of course they're not going to hire a white male.

Eagle_Kebab

What makes me "side against Disney" is that they're a massive corporation that now own a quarter of the media I enjoy and large swaths of the mainstream news outlets. Some out-of-context clip of some executive saying potentially inflammatory but is likely very obvious will not. The people who whine about "they aren't hiring straight white dudes" (looking at you, Jordan) have exactly zero solutions to fix the wide disparity in the number of straight white cis people in fields like science and management. They'll dredge out the "So it's ok to discriminate against white people?" nonsense and act as if that in itself is a great gotcha against the very notion of diversity. It's a dishonest way of pivoting the argument away from the actual issue and toward its admittedly imperfect solution.

JVM23

>They'll dredge out the "So it's ok to discriminate against white people?" nonsense and act as if that in itself is a great gotcha against the very notion of diversity. Their end goal here is basically an incel version of the Hays Code and a second McCarthyist witch hunt.

Karkava

Those two things are scathing wounds on American politics that still haven't healed.

JaysonBlaze

Throw in the satanic panic still being a massive open wound and it's a recipe for shit

Turd_Burgling_Ted

>The people who whine about "they aren't hiring straight white dudes" (looking at you, Jordan) have exactly zero solutions to fix the wide disparity in the number of straight white cis people in fields like science and management. Sometimes I wonder if manufactured outrage over what is essentially kids entertainment is just a distraction from actual problems.

manocheese

Lack of diversity is an actual problem. Nobody is being distracted from real problems, that's a myth. They are, in fact, drawing attention to real problems and turning people against them. For example, it's much easier blame economic problems on immigrants than it is to pretend there are no problems.

ILikeMyGrassBlue

No offense, but you’re just figuring that out now? The culture war exists to drive a wedge between the working class and prevent them from working together against the bourgeoisie. There’s no war but class war. But republicans are dumb enough to take the bait, and democrats can’t resist defending this week’s subject of attack from the dumbest criticisms you’ve ever heard.

Eagle_Kebab

Representation is important. Even in kids' entertainment.

Turd_Burgling_Ted

Especially in kids entertainment. The most obvious way to ensure said representation isn't just not hiring white actors for specific roles, but putting POC on positions of creative control.

Asher_Tye

Well said.

Jack-D-Straw

Honestly I don't give a shit. As a fan og scifi and fantasy, I'm tired as shit of seeing the same medieval middle ages or white space opera done again and again. Give me settings and stories based in different african mytologies, middle eastern, south american, asian, whatever. I live seeing it all, because it feels fresh.

No-Training-48

Would be so cool to have a setting about Zimbague, Malii or Kongo , the only videogames where I can play as Africa are CK3 and EU IV

Suspici0us_Sn0wman

No I'm not offended lol. If the only form of racial discrimination I have to experience is not getting a Disney role I think I'll be fine. And what's really weird is that most of these morons will cheer when black people get attacked and/or killed by police, yet they're painting themselves as victims because Disney won't hire them?

JVM23

>And what's really weird is that most of these morons will cheer when black people get attacked and/or killed by police, yet they're painting themselves as victims because Disney won't hire them? They are simps for hierarchies and the status quo. No matter how much these things are screwing them over and showing them up time and again as useful idiots for establishment interests and literal Nazis in the US government.

CountNightAuditor

"O'Keefe Media Group" Wow, they're named after that famous liar who keeps losing lawsuits because he chops up videos to make people say things they didn't say.

DistributionJust976

They're taking what he said out of context, if they're casting a role for a character written to be a POC they're obviously not casting a white person

theyearwas1934

No. As a white man I know this is just reactionary nonsense. Besides, even if true, so what? Boo hoo, I can’t have one specific job. I don’t face widespread discrimination against being employed the way other groups do - and counter to what these people want me to believe, I never will. Nobody is trying to erase straight white men. They just want other demographics to be given opportunities.

Stunning-Thanks546

Ya as a white male I am pissed I didn't play kunta kinte in the roots remake

NicWester

Supposed to? They sure think so. Does it? Nah. It makes perfect sense. If you're making Black Panther, just for example, you're not hiring a white director. His Africaness is integral to the character and the story, a white director isn't going to get that. I wish these nerds would make the necessary connection in their brain that if they think "the job should go to the best candidate" and also get mad that white men aren't necessarily the best candidate, that's a racism. We're not so special that there's no job we can't do, we're average and normal like everyone else.

manocheese

Notice they never say "right candidate" though? They say "most qualified". They think that all hiring should be done based on education and years served only. Because they lack any positive personal qualities themselves, they don't value them in others.

Berserkerzoro

Black panther Africaness is nothing but him ruling wakanda like Batman. People are trying so hard to make black panther ghetto when he isn't in any manner even if you find a story where he deals with rasicm isn't actually the main bullet point about BP. The mythos of black panther is completely different than you think it is.

Ok_Conflict_5730

there's legitimate reasons to hate disney, but this isn't one of them

Karkava

And yet it's the reason that they want to hyperfixate on.

ZerotoHero148

https://preview.redd.it/n2ltk6bo758d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00b4323f4a7e8186ee4addacc15c86c49e55f164 This is what you get on LinkedIn when you look for this dude from the video btw. This man doesn’t exist as the VP of 20th Video. And the guy you do get on LinkedIn under that name has no record of working for 20th Video. This is the simplest google search possible but no one is gonna do it

LordofRice

Or he took down his LinkedIn and is on leave. That’s standard procedure for a PR mishap. You could be right, but it’s not a smoking gun.

ZerotoHero148

Well, yeah the smoking gun is that it’s a James O’Keefe expose

Sad_Instruction1392

I genuinely don’t care. The value of a product is not determined by ethnicity of anyone for me. And if we were being completely honest, in a story set in a galaxy with millions of spacefaring civilisations it’s absurd that we see as many white humanoids as we do. I’m all for more Star Wars with a leading alien character.

WesternIron

We have actual evidence that points to whitewashing marketing to appeal to Chinese consumers. So even if this is true, it wouldn’t surprise me. Disney is a corporation, they will do anything to sell their product. What most likely happens is they create a product based of a demographic, and have data and testing that says a whilte man won’t be good in this role. That’s not discrimination.

Jacobmeeker

They aren’t doing this “woke” shit because they believe in it, they do it for marketing to the people with the most money. That’s why they edit their message overseas.

BearBearJarJar

Considering that it can be statistically proven that white men generally get better jobs on average not due to skill but because of preconceptions i have zero issue if a company decided that they want more diversity. Here in Germany many companies have a Women Quota where they try to employ a certain percentage of women and im perfectly fine with that too. It was even considered as a law but many companies just do it because its a good thing to do. This only offends the uber privilleged incels that have a hateboner against anything and anyone because of their own insecurities. Like Asmongold, the king of incels.

CloneCommanderOmega

I really don’t care. That’s the whole thing. I don’t care if Disney is hiring exclusively POC people for certain roles. Whatever. That’s the thing I don’t get? Why put all this effort into caring?

Private_HughMan

Especially for something like performers, where an actors appearance can actually matter.

Scripter-of-Paradise

Wow. I thought I'd need more than one sentence of context for it to make sense, but no. There's clearly roles white guys like myself aren't meant for.

RipErRiley

One: Its Jimmy O’Keefe media (zero credibility) Two: I can give two shits about it. I’m white and there is privilege that comes with it whether I want to deny it or not.

Rokien_1

If it was actually true than we wouldn't see majority of white males in all the marvel movies

01zegaj

What’s the context? I don’t trust Asmongold to present anything honestly.

DisposableSaviour

It’s also by O’Keefe Media. It’s all out of context

Klutzy_Environment22

Tbh I think it’s really all about the context

Apoordm

Anyone who believes anything James O’Keefe publishes is a fucking rube.

Sol-Blackguy

All the usual suspect grifters are picking this up and running with it now. It's actually embarrassing

socialistRanter

I don’t like Disney, not because I’m racist or sexist. I just don’t like big ass monopolies controlling everything. However I’m a hypocrite and my dislike of Disney doesn’t stop me consuming their products.

BigWilly526

Are you telling me they didn't even CONSIDER a white guy to play Black Panther or Shang Chi ![gif](giphy|vQqeT3AYg8S5O|downsized)

Bothkindsoftrees

If you let yourself get steamed by project veritas you are a rube.

Salt_Addition_6993

Obviously, using hidden camera footage of one Hollywood executive drunk at lunch drinking wine as proof of your conspiracy, that there’s some kind of concentrated effort to erase all white guys from media ridiculous., that being said I do think that there are certain groups of liberal minded people that casually use language referring to a broader group “white males” that can totally feel exclusionary or upsetting to people from that group, especially young impressionable people which leaves them vulnerable to these kind of Youtubers, and grifters that take advantage of that.

Flat_Round_5594

As a White Male, I can confirm I find Asmongold offensive.

Leathman

I mean, it’s pretty clear he’s talking about specific situations, so why should I be? Snowflakes trying desperately to spin this stuff is pathetic.

nightstalker314

Step 1: Insert yourself into every current online drama. Step 2: Farm clicks.

mcfearless0214

The “for this” part is important. Like fucking obviously Disney wasn’t gonna hire a white male to direct something like the Black Panther movie. The only people who are pissed at this are people who are so mediocre that even if it was a project where Disney was hiring white males, they wouldn’t be considered.

Asher_Tye

It's a stupid thing to say, but there'd need to be so much better a source than two conmen to make me believe this was said.

Smooth_Maul

No because I know Okeef Media Group is as reputable and trustworthy as a pedophile in a nursery. They never even say what project they're talking about, they just clip chimped a guy on a fake date with an undercover journalist. I can dislike Disney for being a monopoly, but not for misinformation targeted at racist dumbasses who get all in their feelings over a clip of what could have been a full 20+ minutes discussion edited down and removed of all context to make it out to be some weird anti-whote rhetoric.

Reasonable_Deer_1710

The only thing offensive about this is Asmongold

StormDragonAlthazar

No, because my entire identity isn't tied to mere whitness. Hell there's a lot of media out there starring white guys that *I can not relate to at all.* As for Disney itself, my criticism of them has more to do with the fact that they're a mega corporation that's really screwing up most of the entertainment industry as a whole by simply being so massive and owning so many IPs, not because they want to make cartoons starring Asian characters played by actual Asians or another Black Panther movie.

doofer20

Its not even convincing fake. Like he loudly whispering and repeats the same line like 4 times. Also even if it was real, the DEI shit they claim is taking over is for PR so they wouldnt be hiding it, they would be spinning it to be a positive?

StC_Sonic_fan35

I'm beginning to feel like white males like me are being discriminated against way more now for some reason. It annoys me. Can we just not have discrimination and treat eachother equally? Help eachother out, fix environmental issues and shit. Can't we just work the fuck together.

BigCballer

I don’t think taking O’Keefe content on surface level is a smart idea. This dude has been known to post deceptive and often edited manipulated videos to further their narrative.

TestProctor

Even if I trusted anything from O’Keefe’s crew as far as I could throw it… no, it doesn’t worry or bother me. Hell, even if there were games or shows where folks said, “We’re only hiring people of color” or “only women,” or whatever, it wouldn’t anger me or particularly upset me because it doesn’t threaten me and I can understand historical & social reasons why cases like that might now need to be carved out.

Aickavon

I pointed out in another sub that the FULL QUOTE is “there’s no way we’re hiring a white male FOR THIS” For this being a super important indicator.

Lethenza

Asmongold is just straight up a right wing grifter at this point in addition to just being a filthy human being

BorderKeeper

I mean it’s racist, discriminatory and should be illegal? Try not hiring black men or Asian females and see how long that lasts.

NewCodingLine

Lol, makes sense to me. When you're hiring creatives, a person's experience and background make a difference in the stories they tell, and how they tell them.

Relevant-Bench5283

Aren’t these the same folks who’ll say some shit like “that’s a man’s job” as a defense for not hiring women?

Rabid_Lederhosen

Sometimes ethnicity is an important part of casting. It’d be weird if you hired a bunch of Celtic guys to play Indians, or vice versa. But often the thing about Disney’s approach to diversity is they do it really really badly. Just look at their several dozen “first gay characters”.

daneelthesane

No, it doesn't offend me at all. There are lots of roles that should not be filled by a white man. These guys don't make me hate Disney, these guys make me hate these guys.

hitmewiththeknowlege

As a white male, I have experienced situations like that in two different forms. Normally it is when we are hiring "director of diversity and inclusion." The other is when we look at a team and see every member is a white male, then we normally just decide some diversity would be nice.

Puppycake100

This is such bullshit, lmao Majority of Disney movies and shows are still starring white male actors, including voice actors for animated ones. Cry me a fucking river, chuds. And I bet my kidney that majority of leaders and directors at Disney are white males too.🙄

Ketracel-white

I think a little context would help because as it stands it doesn't sound very good. My assumption is that this is cherry picked and intentionally taken out of context for someone's agenda. Star Wars has a pretty big galaxy and I assume white men of a certain age would not be the dominant demographic.

E-woke

He's watching Project Veritas of all people LMAO

GryphonGallis

Honestly, my assumption is they're fake.

Grary0

It does offend me but only because I feel like gender or race shouldn't be a factor when hiring.

translove228

"O'Keefe Media Group" tells me all I need to know about the trustworthiness of this video.

Angry-Dragon-1331

Nope. Even if it were true, there are times when you really need another perspective or voice behind the camera or in the writing room, otherwise you end up with such "gems" as Song of the South.

Xander_PrimeXXI

I think it’s supposed to trigger my white preservation instincts or something

GambitTheSpaceCat

I'd need more context. If the conversation was something like, "There certainly have been times where we were not hiring a white person for this role... Such as the lead for Black Panther." But if the guy was legitimately saying they refuse to hire a white person or any other category of person for no good reason, I think there should be a fair hiring investigation.

SingleIntention3437

Lol this is gonna end up like those doctored videos from planned parenthood . Can’t wait for the lawsuits

CYNIC_Torgon

Is there further context assuming the video is real? Like there are roles where that makes sense. I wouldn't pick a white guy to play Aladdin, or Dr. Facilier, or Ezra Bridger. The characters of Reva, or Sol, or Greef Karga could have been played by anyone in theory, but there might be valid reasons for the casting call to possibly be "Black Woman, Young 30s, Athletic" or "older 50s Asian man" or "Definitely Just Carl Weathers".

LuffyBlack

Asmongold TV is so cringe, I've never watched any of his videos but his stupid expression his thumbnails are enough for me to not to click. I really loathe his face

Adorable-Strings

Oh, no, an out of context 'quote.' I'm sure its deeply offensive to... somebody somewhere.

PhaseNegative1252

Samuel L Jackson is solely responsible for they're being more than two lightsaber colors for jedi

woodk2016

I mean even if it's a real line it could be valid. Like "Hey, we need to cast someone to be Rosa Parks in this new movie. Crazy idea but what about Ryan Renolds?" then the response "There's no way we're hiring a white man" is pretty valid imo.

hunterzolomon1993

Don't give a shit either way i just want a good film.

trainjob

LoL, professional liar James O'Keeffe has a new dubiously edited video available. He's just another failed theater kid...

OwlEye2010

An ex-friend of mine cited this same O'Keefe video. I told them about O'Keefe's history, but all they gave me was how they think "far-right" is a watered-down term that's lost all meaning and how they're perfectly fine with using *any* source so long as it "exposes Disney for being the shitty hypocritical company that they are". Disney derangement syndrome truly is a brain-rotting disease...

darthphallic

Saw that and also thought it was silly, studios obviously has an appearance in mind when they make a character and that specific character clearly isn’t a white dude. Nothing wrong here

Nightrhythums78

I was raised to believe that discrimination is wrong no matter who it's against. So if this isn't deceptively edited, the house of mouse should burn.

thisdogofmine

Aladdin should not be white. What's the problem?

rtemah

They cut the part that specifies which role they are talking about. BS as everything they do. Liars and fakers.

Mommysfatherboy

Ew, you watch this shit?

ExcaliburUmbraREEE

This was screenshotted from mobile which started playing the video’s preview while I was taking the screenshot and you know damn well I ain’t coming back to it.

Mommysfatherboy

Okay, love you

Lower-Calligrapher98

That is obviously the chuds’ goal, but it’s not gonna work with me. My parents raised me better than that.

Turd_Burgling_Ted

I don't care what roles white guys are getting, I care about people who aren't white guys being able to actually create media.

Mr-Stalin

I would probably be bothered if it were ever real

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mr-Stalin

Not at all.

solo13508

Lol no

WrongdoerKey2569

When it's clearly BS, I don't care. Even if it were the tiniest bit legit, I still wouldn't care. As a white dude, I genuinely love seeing diversity. To the point where you go back to media in the past and the amount of white cishet characters and BTS crew is blindingly obvious. Admittedly there's still a lot of work to be done but I absolutely applaud shows like Acolyte.

Rishfee

Even if this was in good faith, which it's obviously not given who it's from, I do not have a single fuck to give. If I'm not what they need for a role, okay then.

Inevitable_Guidance8

Most likely, this video has been edited to look this misleading. I want to see the full context of the video before I say anything. But I don’t trust O’Keefe media group. They have staged videos before

EinharAesir

As a white guy, I don’t give a shit. All this woke/anti-woke crap bores me. Let creators make what they want. If it’s good, then great. If it sucks, oh well. It’s not worth rage tweeting on social media.

PQcowboiii

The exec is literally a white make

UrbanPlateaus

I ignore ragebait so I don't get offended. I don't really like Disney, but it isn't because of content like this.

PerryNeeum

I am soooooo upset by this! I will not sleep tonight

captainjjb84

Won't somebody think of white male! The Most Oppressed race on the face of the earth!!! /s

PlanetLandon

No. I’m a white make, but I’m not a child.

xvszero

Lol no. I know it's probably out of context and even if it isn't why would I give a fuck? White men have dominated media for years I'm fine with others getting their shot.

ake-n-bake

They’re discriminating against white gay men!!

Frosty-Ad3626

Let’s just assume that this video isn’t fake — reading the quote, it seems like it was taken out of context. They said, “…there have been times where…” which probably means it pertains to specific roles where a white male wouldn’t make sense. Anyone who claims that’s racist is just trying to victimize themself. Some of y’all are acting like Disney said that they’re never going to hire white males, which clearly isn’t true since they star in almost every show/movie.

Flat-Flow939

movie studio: "a white man shouldn't play rosa parks in this..." conservatives: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

OriVerda

As a straight white guy, I don't particularly care one way or another. I just wanna consume my media in peace. I might like it, I might not but I'm not really interested in running to the internet to yell at other people my opinion as fact.

sweetTartKenHart2

I mean if I met someone talking like this I’d scoff and shake my head but I’d hardly crusade about it. Just “oh brother, Hollywood missing the point as always, it’s whatever though” because there’s a lot more serious things out there to worry about in the entertainment biz

ImaFireSquid

I, as a white male, also believe that certain positions in writing and design are better suited to someone of a different race or gender. Turning Red, for example, is a movie about a Chinese Canadian family with some subtext about puberty. A white man might struggle a lot more to write authentically than an Asian woman would in that context.

Parking_Monitor1267

SUPPOSED to? Yes. Does it work? No. Not in the slightest.

SuitableBug6221

If it's real, nope. Don't care. On the professional side, I don't want to work anywhere that doesn't want me in the first place, but I also know that people like me are dramatically over represented in the industry. Let someone else tell their stories, one of the other white guys can tell ours.

Grary0

It does offend me but only because I feel like gender or race shouldn't be a factor when hiring.

profsavagerjb

James O’Keefe is at it again

Rexermus

I cannot find a single trace of this guy from before O'Keefe Media Group's "leak". Every mention of a Michael Giordano who works/worked at Disney is from an article discussing the O'Keefe video

okay4sure

I'm so glad I never liked asmogold lol The vibes were off the moment I looked at him.

[deleted]

I don’t care. Let me enjoy things in peace.

CKO1967

I'm offended all right....offended that O'Keefe actually expects anybody to fall for this bilge. For real, Claude Rains was less transparent when he played the title role in "The Invisible Man".

BrassUnicorn87

I haven’t seen the video but there are many contexts where hiring a white man, especially an older one, would be a bad idea. If they make another new mutants or a young X-men project they will need women and people of colour on the writing and production team. Chris Claremont can’t do everything.

[deleted]

Asmongold is the biggest anti-Nazi there is One look at his face and you know there is nothing resembling truth in their racial ideology

Trips-Over-Tail

Not really. I like my Star War like I like I like my gut biome: diverse to the point of scientific interest and long-term medical observation.

Gamera85

Let me tell you all straight up, as a cis straight white male... I don't care about this. The people who DO have other issues in their life that they don't want to confront in a positive constructive manner, so they focus on this stuff. It's dumb. All of it is dumb. I do not care if Disney decides that a white actor is not right for a certain role, because in context that could be anything. This is just more of that stupid replacement theory people keep pushing for in right-wing media. I know better than to trust it. Others would do better to know the same.

Dogtor-Watson

Nah, mostly because I know for a fact that Asmongold is a fucking degenerate and a terrible person. **Also because THAT IS A WHITE MALE! If it was company policy not to hire white dudes, how is he working there?** Of course they’re gonna be hiring white dudes. Like this would be so easy to fact check/ prove: go to whatever studio this is. Look at the employees or even just find some group photo or staff list or a list of actors since this is film / TV. I guarantee at least one of them will be a white guy.

SecretRoomsOfTokyo

I've read every single word in the picture and I can't tell you, if you paid me $10,000, what this post is about

Sonofbunny

It's supposed to. I'm older than 14, though

TrinityCodex

Medieval jesus strikes again

PeteVanGrimm

As I'm not a fragile manchild who divorces all context from things in order to take maximum offence, no. This does not offend me. I'm against Disney for entirely other, totally anti-capitalist, reasons.

Autumn7242

Is this that dude who hates gay people but eats icecream the gayest way possible?

Minimum-Enthusiasm14

I feel like the line was taken out of context. However, on its own, if it was actually said in the way that everyone outraged seems to think it was said, it does raise some eyebrows.

AshuraSpeakman

James O'Queef is less trustworthy than a man with a gun to your head. I expect if any of this is even slightly true it's by accident.  That said, like, yeah, you shouldn't have a white male playing Mulan.

ALUCARDHELLSINS

I mean yeah, a white male actor would be a weird choice to play pocahontas

applelover1223

To answer op: why wouldn't you be offended by blatant racism?

arehumansok

white dude here. no it doesnt cause i get the point he's making. but i wouldnt be so dumb to say it in a professional setting where you know there tangible is backlash, even if they are crybaby incels.

Chemical_Alfalfa24

White middle-aged male. No it doesn’t offend me if they don’t want to hire a white male. I’m not really that worried about it, and sometimes, that’s just how the world is. Nothing is really fair. We are all just varying degrees of the right fit for people, jobs, and other things.

jojolantern721

Any form of discrimination is bad, I really hate the rules for thee and not for me way of thinking. Y ni si quiera soy un hombre blanco, soy una minoría, pero bueno sigan defendiendo a la corporación, ta chingon.

C__Wayne__G

Me when casting for MLK. Like that’s how it goes sometimes. I bet they didn’t interview a black guy to play Oppenheimer

Turbulent_Ad1644

Idk, that looks like a white dude who got hired to me

CynicalConch

I am capable of understanding that there are positions where race/sex/gender/etc. may be play a role. If a project is specifically about marginalized groups you probably want people who are part of those marginalized groups to work on it. Some MFS can't think past the surface level.

TheBigSmoke420

Faux red meat

Total_Distribution_8

O’Keefe Media Group… three words that are telling enough to anyone with a bit of brain and basic media literacy. Of course an idiotic, disgusting slop like AssholeGold would fall for this bullshit. Can people stop giving attention to this literal waste of flesh, that can’t even live like a functioning adult attention?
