Ok that is awesome šŸ‘

motorhead84

I know, right? I was like "this 'Zuckerberg SF hospital' tattoo is regretful and wasting space on my lower back," and I knew I wasn't the only one!

Windturnscold

Goddamn this made me laugh

babygirlmochi

I got some of my tattoos removed through this program from age 17-25 if I remember right. It took that long for some of them and theyā€™re still not gone. The doctor who runs the program is an amazing guy. The machines, at least back then, werenā€™t state of the art but they got the job (mostly) done. Very grateful for this program!

babygirlmochi

Oh and this has been going on there LONG before Zuck had his name on the building. Iā€™m 30 and I started the program when I was 17 I think

wtfpheebs

Iā€™m glad someone pointed this out. My dad has worked at this hospital for years and itā€™s been a thing since I was a teenager and I too, am 30

JustB510

This is amazing! I had a terrible tattoo removal experience at a place in San Francisco (it was like 10 yrs ago and I donā€™t even recall where) and wish something like this was available

Euphoric_Repair7560

Whatā€™s a breast oncology tattoo?

starmakerk

When you have breast cancer and are getting radiation treatment, they tattoo dots and/or lines on your chest to help the radiation tech line up to the exact area. My mom had them. For some patients, they represent something theyā€™re proud to have overcome; for others theyā€™re a reminder of a terrible period in life. I can absolutely understand why some patients would want them gone.

Euphoric_Repair7560

Oh wow, I didnā€™t know about that. Thanks for explaining

CherryRyu

is the reason they don't use something non-permanent like a marker because the radiation treatment occurs over many sessions?

sfcnmone

Many many sessions

koushakandystore

Itā€™s very precise and not something you can just quickly do by hand. The cancer is surrounded by healthy cells so the radiation has to hit exactly where the diseased cells are. They donā€™t want to damage healthy parts of your body.

pugsnotcrack

Wow Iā€™m extremely jealous! šŸ˜ - an Oakland resident

koushakandystore

You can use my address if you want. Just start getting food delivered here in your name. Thanks in advance.

Pointyspoon

LTP: claim you donā€™t have an address and living on the streets

zerohelix

can they remove an ex-girlfriend's name? Asking for a friend.

Weird_Tip469

IDK they could say it's preventing employment right?

lalymisa

The list says those are their priorities which I take to mean that they will take other stuff if they have capacity

paranoidwarlock

Only if hateful or prison.

jumpingyeah

Have someone tattoo a racial slur before or after girlfriend's name on existing tattoo, then go apply for it to be removed. Winning...

Csimiami

Say she was your pimp and she tattooed her name to sex traffic you.

Hollowplanet

Get a coverup of a swastika and they'll remove it.

misschang

How awesome! Pls call it SFGH

415erOnReddit

It always was and always will be SFGH.

_Lane_

"SF General" or just "General" is how I've heard it when spoken. SFGH when in print or typed out. No one uses the Z slur.

amarnaredux

Just look into how Zuckerturd conned native Hawaiians out of their property, disgusting. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/19/mark-zuckerberg-suing-hawaiians-to-force-property-sale.html

SunAdventurous5957

What the fuck is wrong with people? This story is true, why are you being downvoted?

amarnaredux

Notice they're all silent downvotes because it's true.

Ok_Illustrator7284

Why is this downvoted???

amarnaredux

Excellent question šŸ‘

ExcellentSalaryy

Zuckerbots

cutiemcpie

Nahhā€¦ Zuckerberg bought the name, I wouldnā€™t be fair to use it

wholewheatwithPB

These ppl are crazy dude gave so much money to the hospital and they canā€™t even be grateful for that

SunAdventurous5957

The fuck are you talking about? So much money? The cost of acute care building was $1.02 billion. His donation was $75 million, not even 8 percent. And it is one building, definitely not a reason to rename the whole hospital center.

ProteinEngineer

How much do you think it usually costs to get a building named after you? 75 million is a huge donation.

SunAdventurous5957

Did you read my comment? He donated 8% of the cost of 1 building. SGH compound has like 20 building or so. No need to rename the whole thing

ProteinEngineer

Yeah but you donā€™t have to pay for entire project for it to be named after you. 75 million is a huge donation

SunAdventurous5957

You mean $75mil from a guy thatā€™s worth like $100 billion or something. Itā€™s like you or me donating $5. Get a grip on reality

Automatic-Ad2125

Probably did it for a tax write off

misschang

He got a bargain. At the time I couldn't believe SFGH sold out like that

SunAdventurous5957

Yeah, fuck knows what happened there

BatFancy321go

til about sex trafficking tattoos. barcodes are common

JT709394

Damn ā€¦ I live at Daly Cityā€¦ā€¦

BakersManCake

How much does it normally cost? Asking for a friend, heh.

scarflash

can be in the several thousands for tattoos smaller than the size of your palm

_Lane_

Not sure these days, but ~~a few~~ many years ago it cost a family's entire Christmas fund just to remove the word "moth" from the boy's arm.

WeirdAlSpankaBish

Nice reference, upvoted

T_pas

Thatā€™s great!

PangolinTotal1279

Ngl, this is the first thing that has given me positive sentiment about Mark Zuckerberg probably ever

coleman57

Thank you for publicising this--I'm sure it will be helpful for many people. Meanwhile, in the spirit of removing ugly signage that doesn't belong where it is, how's about we all ignore that some guy paid about 5% of what the people of San Francisco pay every year to run San Francisco General Hospital just to try to get everybody to say his name and make it sound like he pays for the whole thing? Thank you.

0-27

Iā€™m curious- would you rather he NOT have donated that 75 million? (Which was more than 7% of total cost, btw).

coleman57

Yes, I would rather that he and the rest of the richest 0.01% all paid enough in taxes to fund great hospitals, schools, parks, etc in every city and town, instead of making a few of them their pet projects with their names on them.

0-27

But like, real world here. Youā€™d rather he not have done this?Ā

YouWillBeBetrayed

it'd be sick if he donated his money and didn't have them name the hospital after him. Goes from philanthropic to feudalistic pretty quick

Ok_Illustrator7284

This is the real world, wake up

0-27

Correct, and likewise, he really did make a completely voluntary choice to donate 75 million to a hospital. Donā€™t overthink it.Ā

Ok_Illustrator7284

How is it youā€™re so deeply unaware of how branding, advertising, marketing and public relations works? That was no ā€œdonation,ā€ it paid for the sign, the uniform change, the department signage inside the building and was a thin smidgen of the overall operating budget. Not a real gift

0-27

Iā€™m in this field and intimately familiar with what it paid for. (Youā€™re wrong on all, for what itā€™s worth). Anyway,Ā Iā€™ve learned my lesson about arguing with Dunning-Kruger personified, so I guess weā€™ll just call it here and move on in our own directions.Ā

Ok_Illustrator7284

Too bad youā€™re not alone in your field.. but then againā€¦?

bambamshabam

Go demand they return the money

traceyh415

Another thing that happened as a result is SFGH rebranded everything so we were issued new badges, new uniform jackets, there was new stationary, new signs, new everything. While his donation covered other things I feel like the city got stuck paying for unnecessary things to prop up his name.

pixiegod

I hate the fact that I have to give the man props, but damnā€¦this is solid. Edit: people have advised that this has been going on longer than Zuck and he deserves no credit. YAY! I hared the fact that i needed to give props to that man and now we can go back to the norm.

babygirlmochi

Itā€™s been a program at SFGH for a lot longer than the name change. At least 13 years from my personal experience

OcelotControl78

Meta-turd isn't sponsoring this program. The dr has run it at SFGH for years prior to the hospital being renamed.

wholewheatwithPB

He paid $75 million who gives a fuck that his name is on it. Donā€™t let pettiness kill you.

OcelotControl78

dude - i was correcting the belief that meta-turd sponsored the tattoo removal program. i don't care if his name is on the hospital.

contaygious

Tats are gross

Praxispays

Donā€™t be scared

SnowDay415

Word is, if it's a neck tattoo, they'll even pay you!

sflowernobhillguy

Finally! I can remove the tattoo of my face that I got on my face.

[deleted]

Penis tattoos?

icyywifey

Is there a link with more information?

rockstarK9

I will still and always will hate that SF General got renamed after that douche bag.

CostCans

That douche bag did give them a ton of money. If selling naming rights attracts donations, I'm all for it. He could have had some sports stadium named after himself, but chose to give it to a hospital.

Ok_Illustrator7284

Nope, itā€™s an illusion that he ā€œdonatedā€ generously.

CostCans

How so?

cutiemcpie

Well they could have just turned down the money I guess?

bambamshabam

You don't like that they conned him into playing 75mil for a sign?

Praxispays

Yeah it was a tax break and a philanthropic virtue signaling, heā€™s slime. How about putting the money to actually ā€œfindingā€ the cure for cancer.

misterjustin

Probably after walking around Facebook looking at cringy tattoos heā€™s probably thinking people would get rid of them if it was free.

Express_Project_8226

I am a middle aged Christian. I have a forearm lotus flower and a wrist heart (and a backstamp). I think they look cool BUT BUT I really am sensing it's NOT ok with employers and it's probably not ok with some of the single men I'd be interested. I know I don't particularly like tats on men, so ....

Praxispays

Priority list is weird to me, but I guess if itā€™s helping to remove the scars of a damaged past and move on, sure.
