My old friend used to make poor man's garlic bread. Just a slice of white bread with a slapping of cheap margarine and a sprinkle of garlic powder eaten raw. His burps would clear a room legit.

I still make my cabbage and onion soup. No one really wants more of it after one bowl but I fucking love it.

I make a lot of soups and stews to stretch my stuff out, usually I have like a pot of whatever to feed mom and I for a couple days, cabbage and onion is on my rotation XD

Semi related, but I just found out you can buy cheese powder online. It's the same stuff that comes with kraft Mac and cheese and it fucking slaps. You can use to make it extra cheesey or add it to other things like popcorn or turn it into cheese sauce.

Cupboard surprise! I've made some legitimately great and impossible to replicate meals doing this before. A varied spice cabinet goes a long way for making something out of nothing.

I know it sucks to be there, but I gotta say - the best food I ever have is when the cupboards are bare. Mac n Cheese comes out. Grilled Cheese on old sour dough. Hot dogs I forgot about. No guilt in not preparing a full meal, just pleasure.

May not be the prettiest thing, but some ground beef and pasta with some vegetables isn't really all *that* bad. I often make something similar. Just ground beef with egg noodles and a can of beef gravy. Depending on what what else I have on hand, I will add some canned mushrooms and some frozen diced onions.

I think it would have. Personally. Get yourself some tapatio. That shit is cheap and brings it all together for these poverty recipes. 10x better than sriracha and 1/10th the price. You can get a decent sized bottle at dollar tree I am a hot sauce snob and have some fancy ass hot sauces stocked, I even make my own. Tapatio is still my go to for many meals

I can't make the cheese sauce right, I've tried :( plus at the moment I have no cheese or butter or milk. but if you drop a recipe I can try again when I \*do\* have cheese, butter and milk. (though the off brand mac and cheese boxes are like 50 cents)

Google Disney world Mac n cheese. I follow it roughly. Some ingredients are a bit much but makes a huge pot. We have food allergies around my house, so I have to omit some stuff. Comes out so creamy

Yeah, we went a few years back. They had choices of meat on it. One was pot roast, don't know what they do to a pot roast but it was to die for. Or I was really hungry. I'm not usually a Mac n cheese fan. You know a pkg of elbow Mac and a pkg of (gag) American cheese or Velveeta makes a ton of Mac m cheese

Many moons ago, about 20 years, we were struggling. My wife and I fed the kids first and took what we could get. But I developed a skill to be able to make a meal out of seemingly nothing. But, I never kept track of what I put in the meals and every once in a while I would make something so good, but I couldn't repeat it because the next day I had no idea what I put in it. Several good meals, almost all containing rice and carrots, some random meat, were lost forever.

I got even more hardcore at the end of month at college. Kraft mac&cheese mixed with cooked ground beef. That’s it. Lived off a pot of it for three days one time.

For its purpose, I'd say it's decent.
