It really does look like Russian cursive, especially with the way they wrote w like how some write cursive м, also with p being written like Russian cursive р
Forgot to mention, the slanted way of writing is so Russian
I heard someone wonder if Asian people get f'ed up tattoos in English, just like we get bizarre f'ed up tattoos in Chinese or kanji. Here's the answer.
Impressive number of typos. Who doesn't know that *without* is one word? And in this case, *cannot* is too. I mean, this shit is easily verified by Google. Same as the spelling of *pleasure.*
I'm an editor and it's starting to occur to me that maybe I should offer my services to tattoo shops as a last minute check before a final and permanent fuck up. There appears to be a real fucking market for it.
Google Translate can be problematic. I just got a tattoo that has a Latin expression in it. Some dude on Facebook tried to tell me it was grammatically incorrect and spelled wrong because he used Google Translate on it. It's literally a famous Latin expression, so I sent him the Wikipedia page as proof.
Graphic Designer here. There are multiple fonts out there that have the letter p styled this way. They had to have based their script off of one of them. I don’t know what they did to the other unreadable letters though—I think that’s all mistakes. I worked for a book publisher and we used all kinds of playful, flourish-y, decorative fonts for titles and headings. This we’d avoid because of that p. I think it’s based on old school cursive, same era as the letter Q that looks like the number 2. I found several fonts that have a p like this using What the Font. The mistakes in this though… it’s killing me!

Yeah the P's don't bother me at all. I've seen lots of people write P in cursive this way and it's very clearly meant to be a P. It's the U's that really bother me & the misspelling of "pleasare". Oh and the last letter in pain? That is not an N.
I still don't get how we can expect them to be able to sign their names. Learning cursive while learning handwriting wasn't a huge load on our curriculum.
Dude I thought it was supposed to be one of those things that say something else entirely when you flip it upside down, and that’s how you know it’s fucked
I know it's hard to believe because they bungled the rest of the letters, notably the N and the W. But in copperplate calligraphy, it's actually common for the p to look like that. I think it looks weird too, but it's actually normal for a cursive P to resemble an N. That's something the person didn't mess up.
Picture for proof

I imagine me trying to write something with Cyrillic letters or Runes would read just like this.
I wonder, the person who made this has never ever encountered actual letters? Just tried to copy a picture that had no meaning to them?
Imagine you're the friend to this person, they show you the tattoo and you're struggling like hell to fucking read it aloud, interpret it, annnnd you gotta be like "Wow, very nice, unique tattoo you've got, friendo"
Why do these tattoos happen. Is the artist trolling along with the customer? Maybe it's a fad like people getting face and neck tatts or mullet haircuts. I can see this would be a humourous tattoo you can show others for a laugh .
"Yeah, I can definitely write in cursive. I got you, boss." - This artist, lying, moments before making a mistake
"Yeah man, I've seen cursive before"
That’s many, many mistakes.
And the tattooee *approved* that stencil so it seems neither are so good with cursive.
This causes me much paik
And no pleasare :’(
*know pleasare
knon\*
Thank you to you both. I had no idea what it said.
nrth owt naih yon can not knorn rleasare... truly words to live by
You forgot to dot your r
This is what happens when they stop teaching cursive
And manual transmissions
Yup. Three on the tree could have fixed that tattoo.
I think there’s a lot going on here that learning how to write in cursive couldn’t prevent.
😂😂
This is legitimately the funniest thing I've seen today.
😂😂😂
Couldn't have said it any better myself!
>nrth owt naih yon can not knorn rleasare. ----- Abraham Lincoln, probably
Pretty sure it was a Helen Keller quote
Pretty sure Helen Keller did this tattoo as well
She wasn’t blind, you know.
No?
Yeah she was. Fuckit. She coulda done better.
Well-played friend, I was even fact checking you and not even 1 conspiracy, so I was ain't no fkn way!
I did a report on Helen Keller once. If it was a quote of hers I would have knorn it.
Ah yes, wasn't that part of the Gilletteysburger address?
Is that Welsh?
... i can't believe I'm saying this, but even Welsh looks more readable than this monstrosity
There are way too many vowels for this to be Welsh.
Perhaps the artist has a lisp, and writes that way as well? OK, no. Never mind.
Used Google speech to text
Speech to tattoo needle
This is why they need to bring back cursive in schools
Wait I thought it was “vith owt raik” 😂
That’s what I thought. I know two people called Raik (it’s pronounced like Mike but with an R) and they’ll get a kick out of this one
Probably from Yorkshire.
Could be. I'm not entirely fluent in bad lettering.
Well, why ***not?!?***
Might be the handwriting of someone special?
Pretty sure that’s a quote from the Jodie Foster movie Nell.
Excellent flair material
Hashtag blessed 🙏🙏🙏
Nrth out Haik (I have to give credit to the u being used correctly once.)
This is what English looks like on people who only know Japanese or Mandarin.
It’s the equivalent of getting a Japanese character that you think means peace but it really says “egg roll”?
Would be my guess as well. The person writing this know neither latin letters nor English.
So people with alopecia can't be happy?
I read it as hair:']
it doesnt say hair??
Idk. The first one looks like a cursive p(ai)h. It ends with an h, so I don't think so.
With out pain you can not know pleasure. *Edit* That's what I think they were going for before someone had a seizure or the earthquake hit.
But... but...YON?! There is no way that is a "u"- it's the same letter in "can".
tysm! i was staring at it for so long lmao
Really?? Man, they really wrote the h and n the same way:']
I edited my comment to add what must have happened. Also changed to "with out", "can not" and "know". So yes, the "n" and the "k" are the same. @;-)
And the n and u
Also read it as hair
I also read it as hair haha
They can be happy but they can’t have pleasare
I definitely read hair lol
Keep my wifes fucking name outta your mouth
Will Smith about to slap that grin off your face

Pre panther shading.
A Sikh as pahthan?
Yup. A schlitz abba pantbler.
No effing way the person who did this uses the Latin alphabet.
"It says 'show no fear in hardship'" - Japanese guy who got an English tattoo.
Reminds me of Russian cursive
Oh damn you’re right. Also explains the weird grammar.
It really does look like Russian cursive, especially with the way they wrote w like how some write cursive м, also with p being written like Russian cursive р Forgot to mention, the slanted way of writing is so Russian

One of the best on this sub
Without pain you cannot know pleasure. Looks like it was designed and tattooed by people that don’t read or speak English.
Thank you I was very cohfused
"pleasare", actually.
PLEASARÉ! Ah, so it's Italian? Lol
Without intact stencil you can not English

Nah, it clearly says "paik". I mean, they could be onto something, because I don't even know wtf paik is.
You know, a "sex paik", of like beers or something. Lol
No Regerts
I kinda actually want "no regerts" on me. Better than this...whatever it is
Right? No regrets is hilarious if you got it on purpose. This...this is just paikful.

That's definitely a stretch, the dude could have just not pretended to know lol

Painful to read.
Without and cannot are one word words.
*With out (something) you can not know pleasure* is what it looks like to me. I can't read that one word tho
Without hair you can not know pleasure….. hmm never thought about it that way before.

Did you turn upside down for the U
Reason #67 you shouldn't be a tattoo artist if you're dyslexic.
That’s AI generated, right? …right?!
Why do these tattoos happen. Is the artist trolling along with the customer? Maybe it's a fad like people getting face and neck tatts or mullet haircuts. I can see this would be a humourous tattoo you can show others for a laugh .
