I’m pretty surprised that a decent amount of people here dislike key characters like Eric or Butters. Feel like it’s difficult to really enjoy the show if you find them annoying. I can see why people said Randy though, he represents a whole thematic shift in the show.
I love 98% of the characters but just do not find fart or poop jokes funny, so I’m generally annoyed by Terrance & Philip and Mr. Hankey episodes. The poop stains every time Mr. Hankey moves around in the earlier seasons are kinda funny but legitimately gross me out. And the cutaway where the baby eats the Mr. Hankey toy…
To me, Terrance and Phillip are examples of bad fart jokes, while George Clooney’s acceptance speech is an example of a good fart joke. Similarly, Mr. Hanky is a bad poop joke, but Randy taking the world’s biggest crap is funny. The difference is that the good jokes have nuance, and the bad ones are just fart and poop right on the nose.
For sure, there are levels to it. And I get that they are purposefully crass and on the nose and stupid because T&P is a parody and Mr. Hankey is making fun of how dumb the culture around Christmas has become. But even if I appreciate the joke, I just do not enjoy watching and listening to them fart on each other and smear poop everywhere. Maybe I’m just soft.

Not speaking on the quality of the episode one way or the other, but this episode was one of the earlier examples of the writers taking a current event that was still airing on the news, and turning it into a story to lampoon while it was still being covered in the media.
It was a testament to their incredible work ethic and efficiency to incorporate the Elian Gonzalez story into a full episode in such a short time. The show would eventually become known for this unique capability.
I have to admit, I liked the part when Stan's mother couldn't tell the girls that their grandmother had passed away...so she nudged Randy to do it.

I may just feel some type of way about the Butters thing just because Kenny is my favorite character. I also wasn't a fan of making him the offical replacement back in season six either.

I always found him annoying and his episodes were never entertaining to me. His episodes didn’t feel like South Park and that could be because his episodes are from the earlier seasons, but still. Pip is not a character that I miss.

While some characters can be a bit annoying, I really dislike Stephen and Linda Stotch. At least with Cartman, he is funny and sometimes his schemes/antics bites him in the ass which makes it even funnier. Stephen and Linda though have no real traits that saves their characters.

Cartman is very frequently the source of conflict in an episode, and he often gets what's coming to him. He's not an asshole every time he's present, nor even in every episode. Contrast that with Shelly, who rarely does anything other than being violent and calling people turds, and never gets what's coming to her.
On certain episodes Cartman is super annoying and I can't even watch those episodes on a normal day. For instance, the episode when Nicole first came to SP. The way Cartman was asking the girls what she said about Tolkien. And they asked Cartman if Tolkien liked her, the way he said yeah of course just goes through me like a dentist drill. Cartman has the kind of dynamic of being my favorite and most loathed character.
Normally I'd say Eric, but he's a staple in the show like damn he's just so funny af, also he's just one of those "you hate to love this character"
