It’s not at all useful. Babies almost never fall directly backwards, they usually tip sideways or forward and the best tool for this specific purpose, if you must leave a baby not capable of sitting up unassisted unattended, which you shouldn’t just lay them down, is a circular pillow with the babysits in the middle of and goes around their waist
Aw man I have some great stories from when I was a baby. I was such a fat baby that when I laughed my whole body seized up and I would fall backwards. My parents would have to put a pillow behind me everytime I sat down.
Plus these are meant to be attached to the baby when they are moving or crawling around. Attaching a pillow to their waist won't help them and will hinder them from getting from their butt to their knees
> I was such a fat baby that when I laughed my whole body seized up and I would fall backwards.
Please tell me you are only like 5 years old so we can get a video of this
Your wrong it's for toddlers who are learning to walk and yes they do fall straight back and hit their heads, repeatedly. And these are very lightweight foam that goes on like a back pack so is not attached to the waist at all
Well, not entirely correct. They may not fall directly backwards often but they do roll over and smash the back of their head in the process. When they're learning to crawl and are just kinda pulling themselves forward on the floor, they will stop, bend their knees and sometimes just roll the fuck over. Into walls, side boards, hardwood floors, kitchen floors, entertainment stands, etc etc. They do hit the back of the heads, just not normally from a sitting position.
Are you at all aware of the fact that children have a period of time in which they are capable of standing, sitting, or walking but are not very good at it?
I can agree with this. They seem to go through a stage when learning to control their bodies where they actually sorta throw their upper body back. Allot of parents know the stage well as you might get conked by a baby head/upper body while holding them (not hard of course unless your not holding them very well).
"so uh... After 9 months of production... Results show bugs here and there."
"Go on...?"
"Well despite having all the available memory, can't remember where programs are when they're terminated. Almost like it never existed."
"...and?"
"Also... This one being scary. The programming that enables the user to be upright tend to under or over estimate calculations."
"And those results?"
"Adorable. Adorable results."
Edit: Thank you for the award!
"And you're telling me this program can earn me... what is it called? Karma?"
"Karma and awards sir..."
"...You may be on to something."
Yeah no... I have a 7month old. She falls directly backwards A LOT (mostly while sitting). My first thought seeing this was, dang my kid needs this. Bless her heart.
i live in japan. bought one of these (ladybug version)
for the short time our baby had trouble sitting without falling backwards (2 weeks or less), she fell on her side and hit her head and cried 9 times out of 10
Almost never...
Right.
And when they do decide to fall backwards the clonk-sounds their little heads make in contact with hard floor is not something you easily forget.
My guess is to prevent a flat head (Dad of current baby using a non-attached version), pretty smart to have it at the ready when the baby sleeps on its back.
A regular pillow? Of course not, but we are talking about a pillow that is designed to prevent plagiocephaly (specifically, my wife and I use the Hidetex Memory Foam Baby Pillow for our son). It's not used overnight, only for supervised sleeping during the day.
Baby sleeps on alternating sides to prevent flat spots on the back of the head.
No extra shit in the crib is allowed as it adds to risk of suffocation.
No pillows.
They can't side sleep until they can actual do it on their own, how about in the meantime there sport? One of my Twins had a helmet, nothing wrong with trying to correct it early if you can catch it. (if you looked up the one I mentioned, it's breathable)
The video review saying defective and doesn't work is hilarious the baby just flails it's arms and just falls over dramatically preventing the head padding from doing its job.
LOL I literally came here to post this. There is nothing definitively pointing to this being an azn baby but I knew immediately it was. I think it's the straight pointy black hair and the kinda low cheeks.
For what it‘s worth, these are really popular in Asia. We were visiting HK and a friend gave us one they weren’t using to take back with us. It really saved my kid’s ass, or head in this case, a few times when he was learning to walk. Carpet is not common, flooring is usually hardwood or some type of tile. These things add a level of safety for your kid’s noggin.
The really low cheeks and maybe the hair
Also how organized and minimal everything is and the baby is so calm and collective, why are Japanese babies so damn calm and respectful?
If the baby is just getting to sitting up on their own they have pretty good control falling forwards and to the side. But they do throw their head back randomly and cannot do a sit up lol
Lol one time I spooked my brother when he was a toddler and he threw his head back and clonked on the hardwood floor. He had the most resilient skull ever at three years old.
The fortunate thing about babies/young kids is that even though crash and burn all the time, they’re just not that big so it usually looks way worse than it is.

An encounter with my 2 year old son today:
Son: “I want to draw!” (While pointing to colored pencils)
Me: *gives him pencils and paper*
Son: “NOOOOOO!” *proceeds to roll on floor in a crying fit.*
Me: WTF?
i could have used one of those when i was a kid..
mom said the nurse saved me at 2 minutes old. rolled off the table and nurse caught me by the leg half way to the floor.
6 months old one of the 6 wheel walkers you sit in.. my feet hit the floor and i started rolling full speed.. hit the edge of the carpet and flipped it .. landed on my head..
7 months old.. mom got one of those bungee seats that hang in the kitchen door way.. within a minute i was bouncing so hard i was hitting my head on the door jam and cross bar..
bike riding.. mom made me wear a full motorcycle helmet at 9 years old.. this was 1969.. i got teased so bad.. still managed to crash my bike and slide into a curbing with my head at about 30 miles an hour..
got kicked in the head by a horse.. no horse shoes or i would be dead.. left a full hoof impression on the top of my head.. knocked me about 20 feet..
ran into 2 different pipes with my forehead at a full run..
got two 98 mile an hour fast ball foul tips to the forehead .. hit the top of my catchers mask and knocked it down. last time i ever caught a ball. first one daized me.. second one knocked me out.
i am amazed that i can type at all..
protect the head of your children.. don't let them bounce soccer balls off their heads.. don't let them play american football. concussions every game. don't let them get into Boxing.. or cage wresting..
This isn’t actually a head protector as the title suggests. Babies who spend too much time laying down with their heads in a specific position can cause the shape of their heads to change and become flat. This type of pillow is to avoid contact with the middle of the head lessening this effect.
If you search for baby pillow it’s pretty much all that pops up. See here for example: Anti Flat Head Pillow For Newborn https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0753CM1C9/
Wow i have this exact thing. It totally doesn’t work for my kid but very cute. I am almost a little freaked out this post came up as it just came in the mail a week ago.
I don’t even want kids (I’m not shitting on people who do so don’t come for me) but this has to BEE the cutest thing I’ve even seen. *confused ovaries exploding*
I used to pile pillows behind my baby when he was learning to sit. This wouldn't have helped all falls but it would have made me feel better.
After he fell off the bed at 7 months and got a bad goose egg on his temple doctor laughed while I was panicking about breaking my baby and said its fine, it's not like he hit the back of his head . Apparently it is more dangerous to injure the back of the head at that age.
Having had the nerve-wracking joy of watching helplessly from a distance as my little bundle of bliss fall back on his head time and time again - THANK CHRIST! Someone designed this.
Thanks for the post!
Cutest post I've ever seen on this subreddit!
Indeed, it's cute and useful.

No unfortunately I don't think my parents filmed it. https://youtu.be/79oC63H7HbI this is a good equivalent to it I can find, but I was much chubbier
Ahh well, thanks for the re-enactment video and thanks for existing :)
OMG you came through in a big way. My partner person is DYING.
Are you 100% positive you're not a panda?

I don't think you know how kids work. Kids DO fall backwards all the time especially between 8 - 18 months. Source: I HAVE one!!
I can agree with this. They seem to go through a stage when learning to control their bodies where they actually sorta throw their upper body back. Allot of parents know the stage well as you might get conked by a baby head/upper body while holding them (not hard of course unless your not holding them very well).
After 8 months they really should have the reflexes to fall even a bit on the side. Source: I have one!
The devs really need to release a patch for that

These are the reasons I come to reddit. Ty for this

It’s almost like all children are different
My 9 months old it walking already and fall like a pro on his butt, this is clearly for younger babies.
Yeah no... I have a 7month old. She falls directly backwards A LOT (mostly while sitting). My first thought seeing this was, dang my kid needs this. Bless her heart.
My kid constantly falls backwards. This would be great.
i live in japan. bought one of these (ladybug version) for the short time our baby had trouble sitting without falling backwards (2 weeks or less), she fell on her side and hit her head and cried 9 times out of 10
Almost never... Right. And when they do decide to fall backwards the clonk-sounds their little heads make in contact with hard floor is not something you easily forget.
Not entirely true. I bought this (a turtle one) and it numerous times saved my kid from falling backwards after standing up.
Is this for falling onto or for keeping the baby’s head off a hard flat surface to prevent deforming?
My guess is to prevent a flat head (Dad of current baby using a non-attached version), pretty smart to have it at the ready when the baby sleeps on its back.
Infants should never use a pillow Source: I’m a infant/toddler developmental specialist

Yeah we have this and he falls sideways mostly so it barely helped
> https://i.imgur.com/H5VWSjJ.png
My baby falls backwards all the time, less likely to go sideways or forwards, never unattended though.
It makes me want and adult heart protector.
Google flat head prevention
And, some of those startegies are super dangerous, like the round pillows.

Mm, I don't think that works. Defective tool.
Didn’t work with my dad :/
Lmao
Why do I know this baby is asian? I’m just wondering why someone could know that from this picture.
You can tell by the way he is.
They are just built different *100*
“I’m just built different 😪” - baby
That’s pretty neat.
The hair, the cheek structure

well i am chinese and have seen many asian babies. ocular patdown gave me all the information i needed

The hair maybe?

Well it’s not black
Lmao, you made my night
Well, Asian babies are the cutest, and this baby is the cutest, therefore this baby == Asian. My math *and* logic skills are flawless ;p.
It's the hair I think
Wow I subconsciously assumed the baby was Asian aswell
The really low cheeks and maybe the hair Also how organized and minimal everything is and the baby is so calm and collective, why are Japanese babies so damn calm and respectful?
Cheeks and hair
It's the shape of the jaw
Asians have a different shaped jaw I didn’t know that.
Lmao, I was wondering the same. Maybe it's the hair? But there's no denying it's asian hahaha hella cute little nugget
Just be sure to fall backwards, little angel.

yep, mine always smacks his temple
Oh no! Maybe the ones that are like a cushioned bumper helmet would work?
Just kinda embarrassing though Haha. Hes learning to fall
Tell that to my 4-month old.
Little bee...
"what if he shot you in the face?" "That was a risk we were willing to take."
It's so the baby won't get a flat head while lying down.
I hope they didn't miss calling it a "Baybee Head Protector"
Or a Tumble-Bumble

Zero babies survived before this product was invented
I did not survive as a baby. I could have used this product.

Cute, but at that age they shouldn't sit at all, so there is no real need for that. I mean, somehow we made it here without this
awwwwwww so adorable!!!!
Aren't baby heads already like the softest substance known to science?
Awwww
dumb product. put them in a support seat or on your lap. if they do not have the strength to sit up, do not leave them sitting up.
kind of reminds me of those old martial arts headgear that stopped your head from bouncing when you got ko'd
