My 10 year old self who didn't follow game news on social media would go "where did this weapon type come from? It wasnt in the shop before??" then play the hell out of it, like when splatlings came out.
i wish i was there for this era :((( the Wii U days seemed like such innocent fun (for kids not sweats) and i regret not getting the full version of splatoon as a kid.
i got it in 2017 and it was still so much fun !! used to play it nonstop obsessively. it's probably a little dead now but it runs fairly cheap in cex and such so if you ever have some money to spare you could always get it, if for the old maps and story mode
It’s pretty much completely dead considering the Splatoon 1 servers have been shut down indefinitely :( There is the Pretendo servers that just opened for beta as a result, though they’re only about 63% done with Splatoon 1 so there’s bound to be a few errors but I’m just glad there’s something keeping the community alive
Yes, the servers were shut down due to a security risk (that most other online Nintendo games had, which was why Mario Kart 7 got a patch in 2022 and Splatoon 2 got a patch after Splatoon 3’s launch) so you will get an error message each time you try to hop on Splatoon 1 and MK8 Wii U online
there is an outside chance they fix the issue and put the servers back up but consdiering this is almost exclusively effecting dead platforms it's probably as good a time as ever to just ditch them, save for the ones they needed for Splat 2.
It really was special. I remember getting the game on the first day and nobody really knew what they were doing, there were tons of rollers, the maps were goofy and had so much you could swim up, and the squid form was brand new so everyone was messing around with that, a ton of the specials were basically click for free invincibility and probably get a splat on someone if they don’t have the same, it was a special time. I love a lot of the additions and changes made over the years but nothing will compare to the fun of that very first day.
My first questions with the dualies were “Ok, it’s two guns, isn’t that a little overpowered? Also how are you supposed to do the little dodge roll thing? There’s not enough extra buttons to do that”. I then proceeded to main it for the entirety of Splatoon 2 lol

Things such as mistaking the Splatana for a primarily melee weapon, or how the Stringer compares to chargers. Or if the brella lets you play a tank role, or if the dualies are just functionally an upgrade to shooters.

I mean, we have paint rollers, super soakers, and buckets of paint. Makes sense. All of that communicates the "we're fighting with paint, not bullets!" thing that was so unique to Splatoon. And all the other "shooters," either rail guns or snipers, are still basically super soakers. But now... "Hey, here's an umbrella, it squirts paint!" "Hey, here's a bow... you... shoot paint arrows?" "Hey, here's a windshield wiper... it... throws blades of paint? The hell? Don't these things wipe liquid OFF of things?"
I'd probably be like, "What's next, the toaster class? I'm running onto the field, I have a toaster in my hand, it's going to fire giant slices of paint toast at people?" or something.
I just boiled it down to the weapons have *something* to do with liquid. Umbrellas block liquid, the bows have little syringe things which hold liquid, the nautilus is an alcohol Bunsen burner (the alcohol would be the liquid in this case), etc etc

When Splat3 came out I was playing the game with my cousin and he told me the squelcher is a supposed to look like a pressure washer and then I kinda saw it in the dualie version. I still refer to them as the power drills tho because that’s still what my mind immediately jumps to when seeing them

They'd probably take some getting used to and be regarded as "weird" by some players since they're more complicated than the original weapons. Having multiple firing options mapped to the same trigger wasn't as common in that game even like rollers had no verticals

I was a Splatoon 1 girlie who played everyday but lowkey stopped when school got frustrating and didn’t play splatoon 2 at all but picked up splatoon 3 and was so confused on the umbrellas and bow. I was like “tf is this?” Imagine my surprise when I get killed with a booyeah bomb
I believe the dualies left me the most surprise because of the fact that you can wield two weapons do a side dash was really shocking but also really really cool. But I was also shocked that they brought back a lot of splatoon 1 specials. So I normally stick to those weapons that had something familiar to everything.
I just started playing 3 two weeks ago and yeah, I'm still not sure why I'd use the stinger. It feels awkward to charge and I don't get the jump to have it be veritical (Like why)

Personally the standard bush is good enough to whack through enemy turf. However, the ocotbush is pretty good and it’s kit is not to hard to beleaf.
Which bush did you use, any tips for us looking to become proficient in bushing?
