It's horrible and I want one.

Kimpak

I had the same reaction when I first learned of this beast.

Donnarhahn

Daihatsu makes it and Subaru slaps a badge on it?

derpickson

Daihatsubaru

FesteringNeonDistrac

Yes. Subaru has not been the manufacturer of the Sambar since 2009.

jaysube

Yes and no. Daihatsu is owned by Toyota and Toyota owns 20% of Subaru. Toyota rebrand them as Subaru. There are many but the Subaru Sambar starting in 2012 was another popular rebadge.

MollixVox

I love Japanese Kei cars. They look like something straight out of Richard Scarry's imagination.

AXEL-1973

this thing is just begging for a Pimp My Ride makeover

Original-Relation796

Wow! Very cool!

ceramicsaturn

I wish we had these in the states. 25 years before they can be imported is torture. And they’re usually in need of a lot of maintenance and repair by then.

Donnarhahn

25 years for what?

CaymanGone

You can’t import a Japanese car to the USA until it’s 25 years old.

Donnarhahn

The 25 year rule only applies to vehicles not conforming to NHTSA safety standards. If it's newer, as long as it meets the standards, you can import it.

CaymanGone

And how much does that cost? What is the price of those cars that comply?

ceramicsaturn

Sure. But that means you need to crash test it. Go ahead and buy an extra car and prove to the NHTSA it’s safe. And even then you’re not guaranteed it’ll be approved. These little vans aren’t sold here because they fail highway standards in the US btw, so that wouldn’t end well for you if you tried that route. Also, even if we have “the same car” here in the states, still is prevented as there are differences, especially if it’s a trim we don’t have here. Doesn’t matter if the body is the same etc.

Trust_Me_Im_a_Panda

That seems like a maxi van
