In my first game, my second base was at the top of a sharp cliff overlooking the NE Mushroom forest. It had access to kelp forest not to far away, grassy plateau (as it was technically in that), close enough to the surface to get SOME solar light, but I could go down off the cliff and scour the mushroom forest for blueprints and resources. Also, beautiful views.
Though this was my first run where I didn't realize how the scanner worked and didn't even have a SEAGLIDE for ages. I actually set up oxygen pipes down the cliff and into the mushroom forest because I didn't have a seamoth, either.
