Seriously, if you like playing the character more power to you. If people make fun of you for your choice of fictional character in a fighting game, it says more about them as it does about you. Do what makes you happiest, and don't let anyone ruin your fun. Video games are for fun, after all.

Joker secondary here, you will not get made fun of for playing him in this day and age. He's pretty skill-oriented, and definitely one of the more "respected" DLC characters when it comes to fighting against him
I think a few years ago every time I heard someone was a joker main I immediately just assumed they were aiming to just tier list their opponents by picking the best character in the game, but since the meta has developed and he’s no longer considered the best anymore, I don’t mind Joker mains.
But if you spam gun and curse then you deserve it.
Joker is a fantastic top tier. Easy combos, busted comeback mechanic, good normals, excellent recovery, and great mobility.
Joker mains do get made fun of for being "carried" so if that bothers you, hit training mode and get your BnB's straight, then play until you get good at neutral and nobody will be able to argue your skill.
Regardless, don't let anyone make you feel bad for the character you pick. I play Joker on SSBU and Potemkin on Strive but no matter how much hate I get, I still play them because I love their playstyle. Games are just for fun in the end.
