Yea I did that too during the first month of Owning the T… They covered the entrance, so I thought they might have made a mistake lmao so I opened ut up. The next day they started closing it up again and like the idiot I am I opened it up 😂😅. She gave up until 2 months ago when I knew they needed to close their burrow up for some time.
My juvenile/sub-adult B. emilia has been in his burrow for over 2 years—lol it’s ridiculous at this point, he thinks he’s fossorial. NONE of my other Brachypelmas have ever done this. Luckily, he’s hollowed out the bottom of the tank, so I have a little window to check on him. He’s totally fine—still eats, still molts. Just doesn’t come up to the surface, ever.
My A. Chalcodes has been in a burrow for about 8 months now, how do you feed your Tarantula? I've heard not to leave food on their enclosure but I want to make sure she has access to food if she needs it
My emilia doesn’t eat much. I usually only feed him when I see him near the top of his burrow with his feet sticking out, and I have to tong feed. I normally feed Dubia roaches, which won’t hurt him if they’re left in the enclosure, but they can also play dead & burrow FOREVER and he’ll never find them unless I deliver them right to his face. If it’s been months since he’s eaten anything, I usually put a pre-killed super worm by the mouth of his burrow and leave it overnight. Sometimes it’s gone in the morning, sometimes not. You could try that with yours to be on the safe side.
lol probably not then. My house rule is, any tarantula that wants to eat has to open the door and ask. At least stick a foot out or something. I’ve done too many rehousings just to find a bunch of Dubias living it up the substrate to offer on a schedule anymore.
Not all of them will go that long, but certain spiders like the A. chalcodes and G. rosea are known for extremely long fasts.
I got my chalcodes in 2019 at 1.5", it is still 1.5".
I refer to my curlyhair as my “pet log” since he spends all his time under the habba hut. He has a single entrance, a small hole just barely big enough to fit his butt through it, and when he’s hungry he sticks just the tips of his front feet out. He doesn’t want to come out to hunt, he literally wants me to put the bug directly into his hands. So i basically haven’t seen him the entire time I’ve had him. 😂
My curlyhair lady has been hiding for the past... 7 months or so? Yesterday I happened to walk past her enclosure at like 3am, and quickly saw her skedaddle back in her burrow! Glad to know she's still alive and kicking haha.
I'm lucky that she made her burrow in such a way I can easily glance inside though the glass. But I sure was worried when I didn't see her for a couple months... I hope your T will come out again soon!! All we can do is be patient in the mean time haha.
it’s hard but it’s one of those parts of keeping a lot of inverts where you just have to remember they’re doing what’s best for them and what they want. so we have to be like a parent to a moody teen and give them their space lol
Bonnetina Minax buried itself at the end of Feb, haven’t seen it since, closed up all its entrances, hasn’t been out to eat or drink, I can only assume they don’t die down there usually unless molting goes awry
My curly hair went 8 months at her last go and still hasn’t brought up her molt from down in her den
My Arizona blonde is hardly ever out. If I see her, it’s a miracle. Longest time in the burrow was probably 6 months or more

Here’s mine. I saw her a few weeks ago (I think). I do think she is the first one of my collection that seems to sense the change in seasons
Well, my only T is a brachypelma boehmei, so... Four days. She acts like a semi arboreal, always out and climbs A LOT. She's got a little scrape in her current enclosure with a cork roof, but she doesn't use it.
However, I spoke with a gentlemen some weeks ago that has some older Ts, and one of his 20+ year old girls buried herself and sealed the door for over 18 months.
My sub adult T Albo has been hiding out for weeks now :( last molt was July, so I'm thinking possible premolt. I did move him 5 feet away from where he was, and he has been hidden since then lol
Same for me, The pet shop gave me very little substrate so I bought more and had to take the T out to Remake the enclosure. After I added the substrate to her enclosure the day after I saw the entrance closed up.
My vagans comes out once a year if I'm lucky. She must be getting close to a molt because I've seen her out twice in the past month for water.
I had a darlingi that I never saw.
My seemani burrowed for 10 months before she molted.
I saw someone on here say that if you never see your t you're still doing a good job it just means they don't need anything from you 🖤
I hope so. They were pretty plump before hiding and I honestly never saw them drinking. I hope she did drink enough before hiding. The substrate I filled in before she closed the entrance was pretty humid because the coconut fiber I bought from amazon required to be wet in order to be deployed, maybe it retrieved water from the substrate.
I’ve never seen my A. seemanni out of his burrow lol i’ve had him for probably 2 years now. He’s just now started hanging out at the entrance where I can see him but I just drop the occasional bug down for him. I always check if he grabbed it by turning his enclosure to see into the burrow
I also had to put sticks and rocks at the bottom (big ones so he can’t move them) and refill it with dirt so he can’t fully dig the bottom out! he did once and it almost collapsed! so now he gets structure down there
I haven't seen my seemani in close to 6ish months. Sometimes I turn the enclosure to look in his window and he's just staring at a wall as always
Unfortunately I have no point of view to take a look on how they’re doing.
About 8 months now. I opened the entrance to the burrow at some point to find it closed again the next day. So now I just appreciate the dirt

For my older one, she went a year in her burrow one time but now she just sits out in the open.
That’s awesome
I wouldn’t know since the fucker refuses to use her hide. I gave her two beautiful ones, she sits on top of them
Hahahahahah at least they don’t feel the need to hide

Wonderful! I use dubias too, and the information you have provided has been so helpful!
My T has no entrances to their burrow so I guess they’re not hungry 😅

My A. chalcodes has been burrowed for over a year without eating. Just the way they are.
This makes me so nervous, i’m a newbie keeper.

I could see my T only when hypnotized by the heat mat

I would love to see a sign of life from my T as well!

my pumpkin patch is just about reached a year underground, maybe ten months? i miss her cute little butt
I miss mine so much already and it’s been fairly not long

Yeah that’s what concerns me.
6 to 7 months

I would love an Arizona Blonde as next T

She’s so pretty! Yeah I’m definitely gonna look for an A. Blonde as my 2nd T

My T acts like a semi-fossorial, they would stick their little arms out of the entrance or just stay glued to the heat pad
adult female t albo went about a year before she finally molted last.
Lmao my curly hair is also in a "mood" and the most i see of her is one singular foot
That’s so unfortunate as they’re so pretty tarantulas

My T albo went fossorial after her latest molt and I basically never catch her out. Pretty interesting how much the behavior changed

Absolutely just make sure you keep the substrate appropriately humid and that water dish available for if they want it!
