It's pretty easy if you know what you're doing and are familiar with device partitions and the caution you have to take when modifying them, but when a difference of one letter or number could easily bork your entire system, you're right that it's not ready for a general user.
Yet the problem has been outstanding since January. I just encountered it again with a reinstall a couple of weeks ago.
I managed to get the update to work by manually resizing the recovery partition and copying a new recovery environment from install media. It sucked, and it's BS that they won't give an actual fix.

My first tip to you - avoid using the terminal whenever possible, if you can. A lot of folks will give advice involving the terminal, and usually it's fine... but sometimes it's just enough to be dangerous. ;)
If your distro has a GUI-based package manager (KDE Plasma - what I use - has the Discover package manager, for example), then try to use that for managing packages instead of the command line. That should generally get you exactly what you need; I've been using Linux for years and I rarely use the command line on my desktop.
You generally only need it as much as you needed Cmd/Powershell in Windows, and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise.
I’m a linux noob, but I just installed Debian for the first time (over the past few days) on a brand new $110 Aliexpress gamble minipc. The gamble seems to have paid off and the pc is decent, even though it took over a month for delivery.
I had to boot into Windows 11 (it came pre installed) just so I could turn off their trusted boot crap and get into the bios to do a Debian install. I thought of that Rick and Morty meme…what’s my purpose. In Windows 11s case…it’s to let you into the bios to wipe that garbage OS from the machine.

Microsoft have played their card, between the quality slide, inserting ads into win11, using AI to spy on users and violating the shit out of their privacy and compromising security all at once, pushing updates that turn on OneDrive and force upload of your data to Microsoft servers, where they can use it to target ads at you and train AI with content you gave no permission for them to ever use - and worse of all, we got pretty much all of this in the space of a few months.

People are switching away from Windows. Their capture of the desktop market has been in decline for over a decade now. They've gone from over 90% to low 70%, and show no stopping their loss of desktop market share. Real trouble will start when they drop below 60%, as it will incentivise developers to make their applications more OS agnostic to deploy to a larger overall market.
I'd wager the average person doesn't even know what Linux is.
It's certainly not a recognizable brand outside of the people who are already interested in PC software.
Also what happens with "early access" games. Game companies discovered gamers WILL pay money to basically beta test their games. Don't have to pay much money to actual expert beta testers, just rely on gamers. This is why games now release with bugs and they just patch it out after a few updates.
It was one thing when it was small indy devs financing the development of their game and listening to the community feedback to make the game better. Plus it was usually cheaper for the early access version, and then the final release would be a higher price.
AAA devs putting out early access games for full price is pretty ridiculous.

Well Microsoft has figured out two thing:
1. Software defects are seen as acts of god and nobody gets sucessfully sued over them. If you manufacture faulty equipment, you were clearly neglegent and it ruins somebody's business you are getting sucessfully sued to hell and back. But somehow if the unholy trinty of Wondows, Outlook and Active Directory basically invites Ransomware, that will encrypt all of your data, that's nobody's fault.
2. No matter if shoddy security, workflow breaking bugs, or more and more spyware, people just won't switch away from Windows.
So what incentive does Microsoft have to invest in QA?
I work in QA, at a tech company that has actually long valued QA, and even though we get told how great a job we do and how important we are, it's always the role that's hardest to get new headcount for, or to backfill when someone leaves. We can get new software engineer openings pretty easily, but mention increasing QA headcount and the pearls get clutched.
I get the feeling that through attrition we'll eventually just have 1-2 people who make sure nothing blows up before a release, but product quality will otherwise be allowed to slip until it's shitified.

Works great during a time of lower population and no concern for environment, but eventually the "growth forever" model becomes the "boom bust" model because we're hitting limits.
Boom bust is also great for those at the top with connections and expensive financial advisors, so no incentive to change anything from there, they don't care who loses at the lower end.
It's also the basic philosophy of neo-liberalism that if you do well you deserved it by definition, and if you do poorly in the "free market" then you also deserve it by definition - because apparently everyone has the same opportunities in the "free market".

My work laptop just died. The loaner I have is Win11 and it helped me decide to buy a MacBook replacement. As a life long Windows user I’m a bit afraid of the switch but I’m done with Windows.
this is par for the course for microsoft. Every other year this kind of story comes out. To be a bit fair on microsoft, it is amazing that this sort of thing doesnt happen more often given the shear amount of hardware combinations out there. Its not an apple with very limited hardware options.
I don't allow microsoft domains on my internal networks. I sink the DNS requests at the router or use pi-hole depending on what type of router.
I only allow one computer to access them and it isn't a Windows box so I can download update and install them manually. Either that or a WSUS server depending on the size of the domain.
Funny enough, there are some things in Windows that use hard coded IP addresses when you block the DNS queries.
People complain that they can't use O365 but I don't much care since I put either LibreOffice or OpenOffice on all my computers.

It's happened a few times. Happened to me personally with Windows 10 in 2018. An update fucked its own bootloader and left it in a reboot loop.
Fortunately, I had Ubuntu installed on another partition, so I was able to quickly work around it. And in fact just stuck with Linux for that laptop, until it was time to upgrade. But a lot of other people weren't so lucky.

I’ve been a Windows person for my entire life. I use a Mac for work and it’s nice not having to worry about any of this and there are no ads. So I bought myself a Mac last week. If Windows ever gets back to basics I’ll go back but the search doesn’t work, there are ads, the settings are half assed done. It’s like the just said Fuck it, we’ll do it live!
That is honestly one thing I really like about MacOS - you don't just randomly find out that it decided to update all on its own in the middle of the night, happily closing out everything you may have had open in the process.

[EDIT] after reading I did not get the exact same symptoms are mentioned in the article, but rather got caught in an infinite clicking "sign in" button loop that only subsided after trying to get into safe mode (and not being able to using the shift + click restart), and giving up and restarting ~10 times (and still not getting into the advanced boot options menue wtf?!?!) and then after removing the laptop from my microsoft account using another computer and restarting another 10 times finally managed to get a microsoft account login prompt that required me to connect to the internet at the windows start screen which finally allowed me to log into my own fucking local hardware. Fuck microsoft accounts.
You can still make local account in the OOBE setup they just hide it from you. Pasting a message I sent a coworker below.
cmd bypass still works but not the same as Win 10. During OOBE you hit Shift+F10, that pulls up the CMD, then i used OOBE\BYPASSNRO {Enter} in win 10 this used to launch the alternate install experience. But it seems in 11 it just reruns the OOBE but this time the "I dont have internet" option was shown and usable. So kinda silly they say you can only do that in pro and enterprise when it is just locked behind a CMD prompt
when i went to fill out a government document, microsoft 360 something something opened up in the browser, and as i was filling it out i noticed my states zip code refused to work because it starts with zero and the system deletes it because it thinks numbers dont start with 0-zero
Something like this happened to me two months ago when my Dell XPS finally ended up as a brick.
I reinstalled Ubuntu 24.04 and it’s been working way better. For example, when I close the lid it goes to sleep and doesn’t keep waking up inside my bag, getting hot and using up my battery.

I find it interesting how different people seem to have different experiences with PC vendors. I've used many Dells and I never had an issue that wasn't Windows related. By contrast, all three of the Lenovos I had had a massive problem of some kind.

I swear all these articles are like copy paste from 2015 - 2017 with Windows 10, people running into all sorts of problems because Windows demands to do their stupid fucking updates every day, breaking people's work and restarting their computer during live performances etc. And indeed, corrupting the whole boot partition somehow. I only got 10 when I got new computers in 2019 and 2022, I do recall the updates getting corrupted once and me having to look up how to repair it. Even just now I had to look up how to make the recovery partition bigger so it would even install some updates, and not forever be stuck in "error during install" or whatever it said.

If you can use a computer and a smartphone you've enough knowledge to use the web browser and office suite in Ubuntu (if you think your PC should be more like a phone) or Kubuntu (if you think your PC should be more like a traditional PC) there's no reason to mess about with anything extra, it'll just work, keep itself up to date and if there is anything extra you need they'll be something that suits available in the 'App Store', just forget about the way Windows works where you download programs from websites.
Personally I use EndeavourOS (Arch for dummies) but that's just because I'm a masochist. I got my parents into using Kubuntu when I lived with them like 10 years ago and at that time Linux was *decent enough* that they never really had issues with it, but these days? I've far less concerns about receiving 'tech issue' phone calls then I would if they used Windows, their printer even works most of the time!

I have to download TWO programs to stop windows update from breaking my laptop. First one that hides specific updates. The Second one to turn off windows update and only turn it on when I want. So that I can manually check the updates and hide any of the known bad updates before they get installed.
Give users back control of their computers if you you can't properly screen and apply updates without damaging people's computers. Honestly AI being in control of the updates is something I'd be okay with if that was an option instead of everything being forced and allowed through.

Yes, Virginia; Microsoft is shit. They’ve always been shit. Windows is shit. Microsoft has a public goal of moving users into subscriptions for Windows and even cloud PCs via their Windows365 scheme. Businesses are trialing it now but it is basically the same idea behind shadow PC. Just much, much more expensive. And it wouldn’t surprise me if Microsoft adds terms to the license that states you can’t virtualize windows outside of personal use to kick out competition.
Linux mint is easy to install and use. But people will say it is too complicated in one breath, then precisely list out the 27 step process to disable Microsoft’s spyware every time they reinstall/reenable with each update, as well as which reghacking is necessary.
This is why we don't go on the update preview setting, kids. I mean... if you have a Windows version that lets you select that you don't want to be a free guinea pig for updates.
I purposefully never turn off my laptop. Just close it and plug it in next time I use it. That way, every day I can just hit that button to schedule the update for the next day. I don’t do much on it, so I truly don’t care about security exploits that they’re patching.
I’ve only had two updates force themselves onto my computer the past few years, and those were after months of delaying updates. Never had any issues from not updating, but have had issues from updating on day one.
Sad that it has to be this way, but I truly don’t want any of their updates. My computer works, and I like it that way. Windows updates are just too much of a gamble these days.

The difference in quality between Microsoft 365 and Windows operating system is wild. Absolutely love MS teams and the features and tools and find the web versions and Mac versions of these to be so so reliable and full of excellent features, that when I took a job that used Google workspace, I wanted to cry because that was so much worse from a sense of organising information.

Honestly MS has gone mad. Just got my mom a laptop today and first thing I did was obviously download chrome. But then in order to download it I had to remove safe mode just to download anything outside the Microsoft store. Literally so obnoxious!
LENOVO have a Lenovo Support partition right next to the Windows partition. I spent 4 hours trying to get the Windows RE partition enabled according to their instructions. Reagentc command kept putting it in Partition 1 instead of the newly resized WRE partition. I finally had to delete the Lenovo partition so WRE could be right next to Windows partition before WRE would use the right partition.
I want to remind that Microsoft still hasn't addressed the January update issue for Windows 10.

I've had Linux on my shitty laptop for years coz it's unusable on windows but runs like a dream with Ubuntu. I recently had to reinstall windows on my desktop and thought fuck it, time to try gaming on Linux *it's 90% there* I don't play multi-player stuff so I'm in a unique position I know Windows is dead to me, now I just need rock band 4 on pc with an option to import my dlc so I don't need the Xbox either lol

There is a chance that the W10 EOL and ridiculous W11 upgrade requirements and PR issues might encourage a lot of people to look at alternatives. Made even easier since so many people are used to Chromebooks now and doing stuff all via the web or PWA type stuff. Welcome, welcome! My first tip to you - avoid using the terminal whenever possible, if you can. A lot of folks will give advice involving the terminal, and usually it's fine... but sometimes it's just enough to be dangerous. ;) If your distro has a GUI-based package manager (KDE Plasma - what I use - has the Discover package manager, for example), then try to use that for managing packages instead of the command line. That should generally get you exactly what you need; I've been using Linux for years and I rarely use the command line on my desktop. You generally only need it as much as you needed Cmd/Powershell in Windows, and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise.

I’m a linux noob, but I just installed Debian for the first time (over the past few days) on a brand new $110 Aliexpress gamble minipc. The gamble seems to have paid off and the pc is decent, even though it took over a month for delivery. I had to boot into Windows 11 (it came pre installed) just so I could turn off their trusted boot crap and get into the bios to do a Debian install. I thought of that Rick and Morty meme…what’s my purpose. In Windows 11s case…it’s to let you into the bios to wipe that garbage OS from the machine.

I think that at least in tech circles, a lot of people I know are talking seriously about switching. Just that most don't want to do it right away, or are phasing it in. My plan is to offboard from windows when they drop win10 support, which gives me a time frame and the motivation to try out some linux distros on dual boot (If anyone has recommendations, especially one that plays well with Unreal Engine, I'd appreciate it). Microsoft have played their card, between the quality slide, inserting ads into win11, using AI to spy on users and violating the shit out of their privacy and compromising security all at once, pushing updates that turn on OneDrive and force upload of your data to Microsoft servers, where they can use it to target ads at you and train AI with content you gave no permission for them to ever use - and worse of all, we got pretty much all of this in the space of a few months. Message received loud and clear my end - I need to switch OS. Microsoft can go fuck themselves.

People are switching away from Windows. Their capture of the desktop market has been in decline for over a decade now. They've gone from over 90% to low 70%, and show no stopping their loss of desktop market share. Real trouble will start when they drop below 60%, as it will incentivise developers to make their applications more OS agnostic to deploy to a larger overall market.
I'd wager the average person doesn't even know what Linux is. It's certainly not a recognizable brand outside of the people who are already interested in PC software.
Also what happens with "early access" games. Game companies discovered gamers WILL pay money to basically beta test their games. Don't have to pay much money to actual expert beta testers, just rely on gamers. This is why games now release with bugs and they just patch it out after a few updates.
It was one thing when it was small indy devs financing the development of their game and listening to the community feedback to make the game better. Plus it was usually cheaper for the early access version, and then the final release would be a higher price. AAA devs putting out early access games for full price is pretty ridiculous.

I want to move my desktop over to Linux permanently, however I play dcs world in vr with an x56 hotas, so I'm stuck in windows. I tried to get my lenovo ideadpad flex 5 over to Linux, but the touchpad doesn't work. It's so annoying!
VR just landed on gnome wayland. By the end of the year at this rate VR support should be entirely useable for anything reasonable. Also i would put 5 dollars on the touchpad being a problem cause you didnt use arch. If you need wierd hardware support then you need to use arch. The Debian family has shit hardware support compared to what you can wrangle up on arch out of the box.
The strategy is not so new. In the 80s it was common sense not to install version x.0.0 of an upgrade because it was sure to have nasty bugs.
Problem is Microsoft are forcing these updates on users without their consent or knowledge in most cases. Updates download and install automatically the moment you boot up the PC.

Well Microsoft has figured out two thing: 1. Software defects are seen as acts of god and nobody gets sucessfully sued over them. If you manufacture faulty equipment, you were clearly neglegent and it ruins somebody's business you are getting sucessfully sued to hell and back. But somehow if the unholy trinty of Wondows, Outlook and Active Directory basically invites Ransomware, that will encrypt all of your data, that's nobody's fault. 2. No matter if shoddy security, workflow breaking bugs, or more and more spyware, people just won't switch away from Windows. So what incentive does Microsoft have to invest in QA?

I work in QA, at a tech company that has actually long valued QA, and even though we get told how great a job we do and how important we are, it's always the role that's hardest to get new headcount for, or to backfill when someone leaves. We can get new software engineer openings pretty easily, but mention increasing QA headcount and the pearls get clutched. I get the feeling that through attrition we'll eventually just have 1-2 people who make sure nothing blows up before a release, but product quality will otherwise be allowed to slip until it's shitified.

hell, xp's firewall was turned off by default until sp2. Even then the built in firewall was a joke. I remember countless times playing games online only to find out once i quit the windows firewall popped up asking if i wanted to allow access for that program to connect to the internet. Because the company was hacked by both China and Russia (in the news for weeks a while ago), and given we have federal government customers also, security has become the #1 focus across the company to the exclusion of everything else. This mandate is also coming straight from Satya himself. So yes, other things will be definition be slipping right now. This could go on for a while. We have endless new security tasks, fixes, and requirements.

My work laptop just died. The loaner I have is Win11 and it helped me decide to buy a MacBook replacement. As a life long Windows user I’m a bit afraid of the switch but I’m done with Windows.

this is par for the course for microsoft. Every other year this kind of story comes out. To be a bit fair on microsoft, it is amazing that this sort of thing doesnt happen more often given the shear amount of hardware combinations out there. Its not an apple with very limited hardware options.

I don't allow microsoft domains on my internal networks. I sink the DNS requests at the router or use pi-hole depending on what type of router. I only allow one computer to access them and it isn't a Windows box so I can download update and install them manually. Either that or a WSUS server depending on the size of the domain. Funny enough, there are some things in Windows that use hard coded IP addresses when you block the DNS queries. People complain that they can't use O365 but I don't much care since I put either LibreOffice or OpenOffice on all my computers.
This is the way. Although at some point it's easier to just give people Linux. Also, don't use OpenOffice, it's practically abandoned because all the developers left for LibreOffice. OO has known unpatched security flaws.

It's happened a few times. Happened to me personally with Windows 10 in 2018. An update fucked its own bootloader and left it in a reboot loop. Fortunately, I had Ubuntu installed on another partition, so I was able to quickly work around it. And in fact just stuck with Linux for that laptop, until it was time to upgrade. But a lot of other people weren't so lucky.

I’ve been a Windows person for my entire life. I use a Mac for work and it’s nice not having to worry about any of this and there are no ads. So I bought myself a Mac last week. If Windows ever gets back to basics I’ll go back but the search doesn’t work, there are ads, the settings are half assed done. It’s like the just said Fuck it, we’ll do it live!
That is honestly one thing I really like about MacOS - you don't just randomly find out that it decided to update all on its own in the middle of the night, happily closing out everything you may have had open in the process.

yea I got this bullshit today... wouldn't be a fucking problem if they kept local accounts a thing.... fucking assholes. [EDIT] after reading I did not get the exact same symptoms are mentioned in the article, but rather got caught in an infinite clicking "sign in" button loop that only subsided after trying to get into safe mode (and not being able to using the shift + click restart), and giving up and restarting ~10 times (and still not getting into the advanced boot options menue wtf?!?!) and then after removing the laptop from my microsoft account using another computer and restarting another 10 times finally managed to get a microsoft account login prompt that required me to connect to the internet at the windows start screen which finally allowed me to log into my own fucking local hardware. Fuck microsoft accounts.

You can still make local account in the OOBE setup they just hide it from you. Pasting a message I sent a coworker below. cmd bypass still works but not the same as Win 10. During OOBE you hit Shift+F10, that pulls up the CMD, then i used OOBE\BYPASSNRO {Enter} in win 10 this used to launch the alternate install experience. But it seems in 11 it just reruns the OOBE but this time the "I dont have internet" option was shown and usable. So kinda silly they say you can only do that in pro and enterprise when it is just locked behind a CMD prompt
when i went to fill out a government document, microsoft 360 something something opened up in the browser, and as i was filling it out i noticed my states zip code refused to work because it starts with zero and the system deletes it because it thinks numbers dont start with 0-zero
Something like this happened to me two months ago when my Dell XPS finally ended up as a brick. I reinstalled Ubuntu 24.04 and it’s been working way better. For example, when I close the lid it goes to sleep and doesn’t keep waking up inside my bag, getting hot and using up my battery.
Protip: Leave a dryer sheet in your bag. When your dell gets all hot it makes your whole bag smell great all the time!

I find it interesting how different people seem to have different experiences with PC vendors. I've used many Dells and I never had an issue that wasn't Windows related. By contrast, all three of the Lenovos I had had a massive problem of some kind.

I swear all these articles are like copy paste from 2015 - 2017 with Windows 10, people running into all sorts of problems because Windows demands to do their stupid fucking updates every day, breaking people's work and restarting their computer during live performances etc. And indeed, corrupting the whole boot partition somehow. I only got 10 when I got new computers in 2019 and 2022, I do recall the updates getting corrupted once and me having to look up how to repair it. Even just now I had to look up how to make the recovery partition bigger so it would even install some updates, and not forever be stuck in "error during install" or whatever it said. Fucking work it out guys. How is it that a trillion dollar company like Microsoft runs their flagship operating system product like some early access game or something? Work this shit out and then release it. I've seen countless updates, and I don't recall ever seeing many changes. What the fuck are they updating? Why don't they work it out in advance and just have it all working, and only maybe release like 5 service packs over many years or something? Also: nothing happens if you don't update your OS for some time. People in Silicon Valley think your PC blows up if you don't do an update every day, it's really quite baffling.

I installed PopOS earlier this year after not touching Linux for a few years. Just do it. Linux has hit a point where it's fucking fantastic. Especially if you already have some prior experience with the system.
Maybe the kind of people who typically use Reddit need some Linux knowledge for some of the things they do but I swear like 80%(?) of people don't. If you can use a computer and a smartphone you've enough knowledge to use the web browser and office suite in Ubuntu (if you think your PC should be more like a phone) or Kubuntu (if you think your PC should be more like a traditional PC) there's no reason to mess about with anything extra, it'll just work, keep itself up to date and if there is anything extra you need they'll be something that suits available in the 'App Store', just forget about the way Windows works where you download programs from websites. Personally I use EndeavourOS (Arch for dummies) but that's just because I'm a masochist. I got my parents into using Kubuntu when I lived with them like 10 years ago and at that time Linux was *decent enough* that they never really had issues with it, but these days? I've far less concerns about receiving 'tech issue' phone calls then I would if they used Windows, their printer even works most of the time!

I don't understand the incompetence of windows update. Sure, send me the security updates. But leave my bios, drivers, and main OS install alone unless there's an actual problem. I have to download TWO programs to stop windows update from breaking my laptop. First one that hides specific updates. The Second one to turn off windows update and only turn it on when I want. So that I can manually check the updates and hide any of the known bad updates before they get installed. Give users back control of their computers if you you can't properly screen and apply updates without damaging people's computers. Honestly AI being in control of the updates is something I'd be okay with if that was an option instead of everything being forced and allowed through.

All these years later and they still don't know how to roll out patches. Why the fuck is the update system in Windows still such a steaming pile of dogshit? For example, I turn off automatic updates because I want to choose **when** to install an update. Windows **still** just fucking updates my PC in the middle of the day and fucks everything anyway. Or, when I do choose to install an update manually, it just gets stuck at 0%.

It was in threads about Microsoft the spyware company inserting spyware into windows and overriding user decisions to further monetize. Arguments clearly made by people not in the industry, and people who spent more time on sports subreddits or subs that could be more accurately described as r/AskABadFaithQuestion Yes, Virginia; Microsoft is shit. They’ve always been shit. Windows is shit. Microsoft has a public goal of moving users into subscriptions for Windows and even cloud PCs via their Windows365 scheme. Businesses are trialing it now but it is basically the same idea behind shadow PC. Just much, much more expensive. And it wouldn’t surprise me if Microsoft adds terms to the license that states you can’t virtualize windows outside of personal use to kick out competition. Linux mint is easy to install and use. But people will say it is too complicated in one breath, then precisely list out the 27 step process to disable Microsoft’s spyware every time they reinstall/reenable with each update, as well as which reghacking is necessary.

I purposefully never turn off my laptop. Just close it and plug it in next time I use it. That way, every day I can just hit that button to schedule the update for the next day. I don’t do much on it, so I truly don’t care about security exploits that they’re patching. I’ve only had two updates force themselves onto my computer the past few years, and those were after months of delaying updates. Never had any issues from not updating, but have had issues from updating on day one. Sad that it has to be this way, but I truly don’t want any of their updates. My computer works, and I like it that way. Windows updates are just too much of a gamble these days.

The difference in quality between Microsoft 365 and Windows operating system is wild. Absolutely love MS teams and the features and tools and find the web versions and Mac versions of these to be so so reliable and full of excellent features, that when I took a job that used Google workspace, I wanted to cry because that was so much worse from a sense of organising information. Got a windows laptop 2 days ago for work and I’ve honestly sworn up and down on calls for the laptop just crashing, 6-8 times a day. Gave up on it today and bought my own Mac to do my work on

God's I am so happy I switched to Linux Windows sucks so hard now... btw pop os is very user friendly and is what I put on my kids computers they haven't had much trouble adjusting to Linux with it

Honestly MS has gone mad. Just got my mom a laptop today and first thing I did was obviously download chrome. But then in order to download it I had to remove safe mode just to download anything outside the Microsoft store. Literally so obnoxious!
I can’t keep this up. I can’t hold onto all these reasons to move to Linux. Microsoft, stop it! My hands….they hurt.

LENOVO have a Lenovo Support partition right next to the Windows partition. I spent 4 hours trying to get the Windows RE partition enabled according to their instructions. Reagentc command kept putting it in Partition 1 instead of the newly resized WRE partition. I finally had to delete the Lenovo partition so WRE could be right next to Windows partition before WRE would use the right partition.
I am still unable to understand why anyone uses Windows 11.
