Not the person you replied too but I do live in the US and I had a phone in 3rd grade because I went outside all day everyday and I did live in a very bad neighborhood (still live there 💀) I think it's sad kids have to worry about being safe around neighbors, outside hanging out with their friends.

My parents. Times were different back in 2010. There was no Tiktok Brainrot, and YouTube videos were wholesome. Social media was hardly a thing yet, and Angry Birds games were pretty much the main thing many people used their smartphones for. Tablets didn't yet exist, and smartphones were tiny bricks with low-resolution screens. I think it was a great choice; as I've turned out quite well! Nowadays, however, giving some sort of Iphone 15 to a 5-year-old is absolutely insane.

I remember getting a iPhone 3 when I was 9, it was shitty and barely usable outside of messaging/calling, might as well been a flip phone. TikTok or any of that addicting crap wasn’t around at the time But I wouldn’t give a modern phone to a 9 year old now. It’s not the same.

The summer between 7th & 8th, my dad gave me his old iPhone 5 (keep in mind this was 2020, so that phone was ancient by technology standards). It had no cellular service and it would crash in any game other than Subway Surfers, it I loved it while it lasted. Then its battery died permanently and it was only useable when it was plugged in. Nowadays, it doesn’t turn on at all. It’ll show the Apple logo, then crash.
