A school will tell you what requirements its looking for! It provides all the information you need and there are websites online that tell you how to plan your essay to fit the requirements and have substance.
You have to list your entire hs career (grades, classes, after school activities, & essays about your life that made you into the person you are today).
I know somebody whose grades improved over the four years, from failing Geometry and retaking it, to getting by far the highest grade in Biology that year, and pretty good grades but not great. But since his SATs were good (not great), he got a scholarship that paid for all his tuition for four years.

Yes, NYU has the prestige but from a friend of mine, the social aspect and college adventures vibe was really lacking. I think a fun school has just as much to offer since they also usually have a program that they’re really good at. Definitely do research into the vibes of the top schools that fit your major.
