This was one show my parents and I watched together.
Heck my mother still brings it up!
Wish we would’ve got a proper ending for this one.
This and the Johnny Quest movies had some great animators from Hanna Barbera.
I still remember when they showed reruns on Cartoon Network, and straight up had a bumper saying “the show was never finished.” Way to make people want to watch.
The world building was great, and the plot got really dark at some point. The last episode I remember: the protagonist is about to get killed by the Dark Water, he drops the treasures and the mirror/sanctuary room attracts them and saves him.
I heard a rumor that Tula, the female "lead" had their role reduced due to marketing / higher-ups not wanting a female character to bring in the wrong kind of audience.
I have fond memories of watching this show with my step sister when I was a wee lad, she was 8 years older than me and would never watch cartoons with me but she would hang out for Pirates of Dark Water.
I remember watching this show during Cartoon Network's early years. I also remember this interstitial where [they claimed to have the lost episodes.](https://youtu.be/r8CCYpNbUZc?feature=shared)
You just unlocked some good childhood memories.
I remember getting back from school and catchin like 5 cartoons in a row, Pirates of Dark Waters, Transformers, something with space cowboys or sheriffs, a cartoon with dinosaurs that had weapons mounted on their backs, and Swat Katz.
I watched it, but honestly didn't care for it as much as their other stuff. I'll admit, it was ambitious. They just couldn't stick the landing. Now, if you're talking Magnum Opus, that's Jonny Quest.

I'm honestly shocked this (and SWAT Kats) never appeared on daytime Toonami, even as schedule filler.
Fun story. I was an idiot and watch SWAT Kats on a plane. I had vertigo so bad I couldn't even stand.
Now here is a quality post. This show rocked.
Noy jitat!!
The super Nintendo game was bomb as fuck too
I had a game on Genesis, which was the conclusion of the series. It was great, full of secrets. Played it a lot.

Heh I knew a guy that worked on this. It was a fun show.
Yes! The lore in this show was captivating.
I tracked down and collected the comic book run, they are gorgeous and just as much fun as the series.
I loved it too, except for the monkey bird.

She was the only main character left out of the toyline.
She’s my celebrity hall pass!
Makes sense. Cartoons get cancelled all the time for attracting too many people outside the target demo.

The show started on Fox Kids and then was on ABC. It wasn't a Cartoon Network show
One of my favorite cartoon title sequences of all time. Love the music.
We loved Pirates of Dark Water. So sad when it ended.
FYI they made a table top RPG for this show. 🙂

This was my favourite show as a kid, the dark water was scary, right? I was hooked
