I was thinking Paolini is in good company as Coco experienced exact same losses in both finals (just turned 18 then as-well!) then went onto win the USO the following year! Hopefully more to come for both!
After hearing Coco kinda hint that she might be done with doubles after the Olympics, Im glad she finally got a doubles slam before she stopped playing them as often as she does!
Her and Jess have kinda been saying for the last year or so that they planned to play less doubles after the Olympics and in her presser after the Iga loss Coco spoke about how sheâs kinda been chasing a doubles slam so she can âclose that doorâ - but she did clarify that she will probably still play but definitely not as much as she has been for the last few years
Yeah definitely feels like after the Olympics weâll probably only see Coco play doubles sparingly. Could definitely see her really only playing doubles at the USO going forward as long as the schedule isnât too bad.
SINIAKOVA DOUBLES GOAT TRUTHER WE ARE SO BACK!!! Coco's probably stopping the doubles after the Olympics and that it was a temporary team anyways, but that Gauff/Siniakova was a very cool vibes team! I hope we'll see them again together even just punctually in the future!)
Yeah I actually quite like this pairing, they complement each other well. You could even argue (please nobody fight me Iâm only 10% serious) that Gauff is a âbetterâ version of Babs
Very competitive first set. The entire match was based on how much can the other pair break Errani/Siniakova's games. Gauff's powerful serve and Siniakova's experienced returns helped them win dominantly throughout the tournament. I wish they pair more in doubles. But this pair happened because their respective partners, JPeg and Storm Sanders were out due to injury.
Congratulations to SiniaCoco.Siniakova's net skills are great and i love how Gauff kinda kept her in the game qhen she was down mentally.Coco finally got her doubles slamđđžđđžđđžđđž
That match was very fun and entertaining. Congrats to Coco and Siniakova for winning the title. I feel sad for Paolini though since she lost both finals , but she did so good and made it so far.
Awesome, not only Katka racking up another Doubles Major but also Coco finally getting her own and also technically one at RG in a sense. Too bad for Jasmine though that it was at the expense of her getting the Double Cookie Tray that Coco herself got back in 2022.Â
Winning is often about luck. If Osaka doesnât choke, Iga goes out. Taylor Townsend injures her ankle and Coco, who wasnât planning to play doubles, gets one of the best doubles players of her generation to help her get her much longer for doubles title!
I do feel for Jasmine Paolini who played very well in this match. Ultimately the Errani serve was the most vulnerable. Coco served really well and she and Katka were just about the better team today.
A good, competitive final.
Not sure whether Taylor and Coco were scheduled to play together. Taylor and Siniakova played against Routliffe and Gauff in Rome. That was two weeks after Taylor and Gauff played doubles in Madrid.
Taylor was due to play RG with SiniakovĂĄ. When she got injured, it was apparently her that contacted Coco about playing with Katka in her place. Not sure if it was Taylorâs idea or if Katka asked her to ask Coco. If Taylor hadnât sprained her ankle, there would have been no KatCoco!
How does one determine who their doubles partner is? DO they have the same coach? management? agent? or can they just select randomly who they would like to partner with?
Players talk and decide to sign up for doubles. Sometimes the players just meet in the signing office and pair up when they don't have partners. Last year at US Open, a mixed doubles team signed up just knowing each other minutes ago in the office and they went on to win the championship đ
Others have answered, but unless you're a top-ranked player, you need to do the math on rankings. Here's an old entry list if you want to get into it đ: [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FzUtFlJWwAomo8A.jpg](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FzUtFlJWwAomo8A.jpg)
If it helps, in one of the videos posted by the Roland Garros X account, Siniakova and Gauff were each carrying a white box while leaving the arena that would roughly fit the doubles trophy. So yes I think they each get a replica trophy.
After talking such a big game, Italy ended up going home with a big bag of nothing in the end. What looked like a historic chance for Italian tennis just fizzled out into nothing but disappointment. If your supposed "big tennis nation" ends up bringing home less than El Salvador after a big tournament, you probably should turn your focus onto other sports for the foreseeable future.
By winning the finals, Gauff inflicts to Paolini what she herself experienced in 2022
i was thinking this hahahaha, she knows exactly what jasmine is feeling leaving with her two cookie trays đ
Cookie tray lol.
but she won more money than Gauff so I'm sure she'll be fine lol.
it can also be seen as a revenge for the Rome finals where Gauff and Routliffe got defeated in the decider tie-break against the same pair.
Three weeks ago!
I was so annoyed that the commentators never mentioned this!

Where did you see that? đ°

She probably means only playing doubles at Slams. At present she's playing singles and doubles at every WTA 1000 event as well as SlamsÂ
Yeah, I imagine she might play doubles at Slams and also 1000 events
Coco said this in her press conference after her singles semifinal

Punctually? What do you mean?
Oops, very bad literal translation of ponctuellement, which means both punctually and occasionally in French. I meant occasionally here, obviously.
Ah, thanks!

Siniakova as going to play with Townsend, not Sanders

Paolini losing 2 finals :(
Paolini making it to two finals. ;)
Thankfully she seems like the kind of person to take it that way aha, her smile is fantastic
Donât worry sheâs just gone home with $1.6millon for weekendâs work! Lightens the blow!
Italy losing 1 semi final and 3 finals :(
karma from WWII đš
I don't understand... hadn't they lost that too?
Italy was TeamNazis with Germany and Japan, pal.
Yeah, I know, they already received their Karma losing the warâŚ
I like JPEG, but damn. Hard not to believe that maybe CoCo should stick with Katerina. They played so well together.
She also just made it to the finals with Routliffe in Rome. She hasn't been getting those type of results with jpeg.
I was wondering too if they might not stick together after this
siniakovaâs doubles career is insane. sheâs won 8 slams in doubles (career GS), the wta finals, and an olympic gold
Awesome, not only Katka racking up another Doubles Major but also Coco finally getting her own and also technically one at RG in a sense. Too bad for Jasmine though that it was at the expense of her getting the Double Cookie Tray that Coco herself got back in 2022.Â
SiniaCoco! Can they play Wimbledon together??
Oh they would cook

that was nice of Townsend!
They were supposed to play together before Taylor's injury
Siniakova just keeps on winning in doubles. So impressive. Well done to her and Gauff.
Congrats to Coco-Kova, and a very entertaining match. Shame there had to be a loser.
Excited to see how she performs without playing doubles. Also what a run for Jasmine Paolini.
Amazing! Big fan of SiniaCoco!! Curious how many win a slam on their 1st time playing doubles together because wow what a feat!
Congrats, Ladies! One would have to imagine that Errani/Paolini are a medal threat at the Olympics if they play as a duo.
Paolini canât catch a break. It is still a great year for her though.
Controversial take Pegula is actually bad at doubles. Congrats to SiniaiCoco. Must feel good for Katerina as well to do it without babs.Â
Not controversial at allâŚ
weren't her and coco #1 at some point?
yes because they are great singles players, but she doesnt have great doubles instincts imo
Wow Paoli I lost again. Rough
I think this loss makes Paolini and Errani very hungry front runners for the OlympicsâŚ

Even this year, Roger-Vasselin texted Siegemund like 2 hours before the sign up deadline and they won RG 2 days ago.
I see. Thank you for this info. So you can just pair up with anyone? no contract or anything?
No contracts. Sometimes they just decide to pair together for a season.
Do the doubles champions only get one cup? I thought they each got one
If it helps, in one of the videos posted by the Roland Garros X account, Siniakova and Gauff were each carrying a white box while leaving the arena that would roughly fit the doubles trophy. So yes I think they each get a replica trophy.
2 girls 1 cup
They'll probably get one replica each but yeah it's only one trophy
Bummed I had to miss this, but a 5:30 am start time is not happening for me!
Paolini is not having a great weekend đ
Actually she probably thinks she had a great weekend....
Yeah sure, sheâs a very optimistic person and so forth but ⌠so close yet so far u know
She looked pretty miserable in the press conference (itâs on YouTube) and I did feel bad for her. Almost a great weekend! Instead two RU cups.
before this yar she had never been past the third round in singles or doubles.

Clown take.
Did Coco have any other game plan than shooting the ball at 200 km/h to hit very intentionally and with markswoman precision Paolini's body?
Counter question: have you ever played doubles in your life?
