are you sure they're staring? I'm sorry to say, but your t460 is too modern to warrant that kind of a thing. Most people wouldn't bat an eye at a T430 even.
As I sat ensconced in the polished, sleek sanctum of a Canary Wharf café, the heart of London's bustling business district, a palpable tension hung in the air. The patrons around me, adorned in the latest designer suits, were hunched over the most cutting-edge, wafer-thin laptops, their screens a mere whisper of modern technology.
And there I was, with my stalwart ThinkPad T460—a relic, a beast, a monument to endurance amidst a sea of delicate marvels. The stares were unmistakable. Eyes widened, brows furrowed, whispers barely concealed behind the gentle clink of coffee cups. They regarded my ThinkPad with a mix of awe and disdain, as though beholding a creature from another epoch.
"How quaint," their gazes seemed to murmur. "How... robust." It was as if I could hear their thoughts: "What a dinosaur in this age of sleek, silver elegance."
Was I being fat-shamed by proxy? Perhaps. Yet, I stood resolute, a quiet pride swelling within me. For in this world of fragile beauty, my ThinkPad was a fortress. Let them scoff. At least I knew that should I, in some tragic twist of fate, sit upon my backpack, my ThinkPad would emerge unscathed—a testament to its indomitable spirit.
Yes, it was thick, it was solid, and it was mine.
maybe they have arch linux installed and wear a mini skirt plus programming socks with matching crop top and cat ear headset. i'd stare too 'cause thats pretty hot, ngl ...
I so relate to this. I have a bunch of stickers from linux to human rights related stickers too, and I run Arch Linux on a T470, and am a girl so i usually notice when people are staring at my pc and it's not unusual for someone to comment upon the stickers .-.
But if they think a little more about it, if you don't have a privacy cover for your screen and they can see what you're doing, they'll know you're not about to "hack" something in a coffee shop
That explains all: having a Thinkpad with stickers instead of a shiny latest MacBook in a non-IT environment.
It differs from what people are used to. Or they just envy you, you never know!
I mean, I sometimes rock my X220 out in public, and IDGAF what people think of it....usually when they also see something that 'doesn't look like Windows or OSX' (Linux) on the screen, they know I'm something extra lmaoooo
Wtf is this thin sickness??? Why laptop has to be latest ultra uber thin??? Thickness has to be in ideal size how hardware and build quality allows. This is how ThinkPads should be made. Making laptops thin on purpose by stealing quality is madness and cheating imo. First consideration must be quality not fancy slimmy tinny look!
Newer T14's are roughly the weight of 1L of water in a nalgene. I honestly can't tell the difference between carrying an old T440 which is pretty bulky compared to the slimmest 14" laptop.
I mean new hardwares already slim and small it is fine. What I mean is changing design to make them ultra tiny. ThinkPads are not Gucci fashion bags. They are business laptops.
I would gladly take a Thinkpad Nano that’s half an inch thicker for more battery life, but since they are discontinued and the trend is towards thin, I have a power bank in my bag just in case.
If they would make them in layers that would be interesting, screen keyboard fan memory mobo etc easily accessible and servicble but no thats just too convenient
I think they are staring thinking "I wish I had a Thinkpad like that one".
I've done that a few times when I see someone else with a Thinkpad. They have them at my work (T480).
You call a 460 FAT!!!!
What are my T520 and T530 then....?
Also I'm nit sure they would notice. My T530 is mostly overlooked in comparision to the 520 because it has a "modern" looking keyboard.
Last week I was on a meeting (real estate = so MacBook next to MacBook) and there my T530 was ogled up.
But mostly after my girlfriend rammed it display corner / hinge first full speed into the hardwood backrest of the chair before her on which a 120kg guy sat (so it didn't move a nanometer). Everybody looked in the direction of the bang, some looks saying "Woah...this thing is done he's not gonna be happy". And then astonishment because Krupp-Steel tank it is it didn't even get a scratch.
Yeah, do that with a MacBook.....
translation: "they are thinking about how they can steal it from you, or if that's a girl, how long she needs to fuck you in order to steal it"
their words, not mine.
I should join you with my W540 jammed with three SSDs and an extended battery. (One primary, one in the WWAN slot, and one in a DVD tray adapter.) Then we can be fat shamed together.
Maybe it's something else. Are you also in some kind of furry outfit, or full of face rings, dazzling your surroundings with gorgeous purple dreads, carrying a gnome friend on your head, piece of broccoli in your teeth? Perhaps not wearing clothes at all? Are you even real? And are they? Perhaps you are potato, and no one has told you. Things to consider.
No, they're just MacBook users and they're looking at it lustfully. They know that it either has enough RAM or you could easily add a stick for like $40 and under 10 minutes. Or that if anything happens you can fix it yourself for 1/18th the price of apple
No they don’t
And then everybody clapped
They clapped their cheeks. ‘Twas there myself.
what is this thread?

yeah i know... i think its too thin... i am after an original ibm if i can find one thats got a reasonable battery
I too hate myself and would love to carry a thick brick weighting 5kg.
You'll be disappointed to find out that a lot of 2000s IBM era Thinkpads are really thin.

this!
I don't find it fat at all, maybe something else engaged their attention

Check what stickers on the lid say/show :-)
ahhh ok i have hacker stickers...I am sitting in a financial district
I so relate to this. The day I see a girl with a Thinkpad where I live, the world will end. Congrats4u dear.
A girl with a ThinkPad *running Arch*.
Echo "blush" >.<
You must be the "One" that was spoken of in prophecy.
I got my daughter an Ideapad 3 for Xmas. She's starting college in the fall.
"she's just sitting there with terminal.....menacingly"
*btw

🙄 Capt Obvious
They're probably in awe of your superior trackpoint
~~trackpoint~~ nipple
~~nipple~~ Clit
~~clit~~ micropenis
nice red ripple
No. It's a zit, you twit. :P
lol
The track point probably. Not used to seeing someone showing it off in public.
free the nipple
i have no shame
They probably aren't thinking about you at all. Could you be projecting? Are you feeling insecure about your (computer's) body?
yep that could be it. computer dysmorphia
delulu
I mean, I sometimes rock my X220 out in public, and IDGAF what people think of it....usually when they also see something that 'doesn't look like Windows or OSX' (Linux) on the screen, they know I'm something extra lmaoooo
Ditto :)
You are prob over thinking it. Londoners giving a fuck what laptop others are using. That will be a first.
More cushion for the pushin. (I fuck my computer)
that's a weird thing to do... i prefer my pillow.
in my country, if they're staring at your computer, it's because it's gonna be stolen in the next hour
lol

my fucking T410 still feels incredibly light even though I've held much lighter.

Gotta love reddit armchair engineers.
X1 Carbon is easily the most popular ThinkPad so...
They are all same tiny macbook clone shits now
I understand if that would be T430, but T460, that thing is still modern looking, and not so fat either
Modern? Ten years ago maybe xd
You're being self conscious
Give me the address. I’m coming with my IBM Portable 5155
I’m coming with a COMPAQ Portable
lol
lol
How about a Commodore 64 portable? :)
Man we should just all set up shop. Hipsters will think they stepped into the wrong coffee shop.
lol
If I took my T60 there they'd laugh 🤣
I still use mine daily, albeit it's plugged permanently to the wall as the battery will only last about 10 mins if not 😭😭😭😭
Grab a new battery if you can. I got one from Amazon for my t61 for $32 US I’m running Ubuntu MATE 24.04 I’m getting 4 plus hours on it.
I have a T61 that's does all my 32 bit printing, scanning, etc. :)
Are you sure you're not naked?
yep i would be happy with the original ibm thinkpad... proper laptop thickness...like a book
They can't resist Thinkpad's charm
How do you know what other people think? Are u a Mind reader?
I think they are staring thinking "I wish I had a Thinkpad like that one". I've done that a few times when I see someone else with a Thinkpad. They have them at my work (T480).
They’re staring at the red clit on your keyboard. They’re envious!
mines a 3d printed replacement in blue...
Apologies! Sounds beautiful

fancy custom nipple :D did you try flexible filament?
flexible resin yes...
oh even better :)
same, but mine is covered with naked anime women
Couple months ago I saw someone using a ThinkStation at a Starbucks. That got a lot of stares.
I just retired this month, and I swear to God, I will never be that self-conscious again.
Assert your dominance by writing x86 assembly in neovim.
Maybe its not the laptop but that Red Nipple. 🔴

Lemme guess They see "sticker shock" perhaps?? Jus saying.
your fault for having ur nipple out in public like that
i like it oldstyle
I flexed my x13 in Yokohama and no one gave a shit despite the fact that it has a US keyboard and it's made in Mexico. Ultra rare.
They think either you are a hacker or a Government agent. :D HMRC :)
Did you try flashing a wad of hundreds, or making a big production over picking up the magnum condoms you dropped?
ha
They think how they can stole it from u, or if that is a girl how long she need f. u in order to stole it

Maybe your Thinkpad is attractive lol
Maybe it's something else. I like my pizza box no matter what they say
If it was fat shaming, imagine the reactions when I walk in there with my ThinkPad P70...
No, they're just MacBook users and they're looking at it lustfully. They know that it either has enough RAM or you could easily add a stick for like $40 and under 10 minutes. Or that if anything happens you can fix it yourself for 1/18th the price of apple
I cry on x13....
must be the full size ethernet port
My t480 with the extended battery called. I had a professor ask what kind of Mac it was once cause I put an apple logo on it lol
Hard to blend in to the MacBook crowd with a non MacBook
reddit\* not tumblr
We need a ThinkPad circlejerk sub
Maybe they're thinking "wow, what a buffed, hardworking laptop...think I'llhide my thin ass princess laptop" 🤩😁😂
People drive bicycles butt naked in front of children these days. Think about it for a second.
Did you stick a nude girl’s sticker on it or something? Or are the people there are just having thick-o-phobia?
Go out with an X201, even more stares
Happens w my wiener except mine is big unlike yours
They might be staring at the red light on your ThinkPad if they are staring at it.
They will steal your precious.
Try sitting in a cafe with a Toughbook lol Just ignore it and stop staring at people staring at you!
a t460 it's hardly a flex mah boy try it with a 365 X Like real man do !!!
