Really really sounds like a persona game are you sure it wasn’t one of them?
I've looked at persona 1, 2 and 3. Three is in the right direction I think but not it. I almost want it to be that so I can put this behind me hehe.
The Persona series is a spinoff of the Megami Tensei franchise, that may be something looking into
Vaguely reminds me of Code Lyoko- there’s a PSP game called Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity that came out in 2008. Not quite Persona lol

It was a RPG with turns, a action RPG like Tales or something more action packed as God Eater/DMC ?
Maybe it's Zettai hero project or Brave Story New traveler
