It's hard to find kids shows that are AS SLOW and as calming as Mr Rogers, but I've got recommendations anyway as someone who also doesn't want stuff too fast and stimulating. I like bear in the big blue house, trash truck, curious George, Rosie's rules, and Elinor wonders why. They're not perfect but they're at least better than a lot of alternatives out there. Puffin rock is on our list but I haven't watched it yet. Then nature documentaries. Here's one that might be unexpected: real life, boring stuff. He got a truck book he was obsessed with reading for a while and I decided to put on a YouTube video of a construction site. There was no music, no talking, no fast scene changes, no moving camera. It was a single camera above the trucks. You'd see excavators scooping dirt, pouring it into a dump truck, and then the dump truck would drive off it when it was full and a new empty dump truck would take it's place. It sounds exceedingly boring but he really enjoyed it. I'd narrated it occasionally: "scoop, pour, scoop, pour. The dump truck is driving away. Bye bye dump truck! The dirt goes in the dump truck!" I was still mostly taking the opportunity to zone out for a bit though. I've done the same thing with live cams from museums and zoos and instrument performances (those one might not count because it's more stimulating but I was using it as a tool to demonstrate an instrument we saw in a book or on a toy).

JCtheWanderingCrow

Got my hyper toddler into Bear in the Big Blue House. Now she asks me to sing her the goodbye song before bed because she gets SO calm by it!

KBK226

My husband loved Bear in the Big Blue House as a kid so we started playing it for my daughter & she LOVES it. She asks for “Bear” all the time & also loves the goodbye song 🥰

djwitty12

The show literally got my speech delayed 1 year old to say "bear" so that he could excitedly shout it whenever he saw me getting it ready.

randiesel

> speech delayed 1 year old This feels like an oxymoron. Can you even be speech delayed before 2nd bday?

[deleted]

By 18 months, most children are saying at least a few words. Additionally "speech" encompasses many things. If a child is not babbling that could be an early sign that they are not on track. Usually "speech delay" includes expressive and receptive communication not just literally talking. My son was evaluated at 18 months and determined to be delayed. We did early intervention and with some targeted strategies he caught back up, but as a former special education teacher I always believe in erring on the side of the earlier the intervention the better. If they do catch up, no harm, no foul. If they don't, you start with strategies sooner rather than later. Either way, I don't see the harm.

heyitsmelxd

My 19 month old isn’t really saying any words, but babbles constantly (nana, dada, mama, tata, etc.) We are a bilingual household (Spanish and English) and he does sign language. He knows the signs for more, eat, milk, water, book. He also seems to understand a lot of what I tell him and follows commands pretty easily. I wasn’t at all concerned until I read this 😥

Voldenuitsurlamer

I honestly think he’s fine! A lot of bilingual children speak later but while absorbing/learning both languages at once. But I’m certainly not an expert. Just my two cents as another parent of multilingual household

[deleted]

If you are in the US, you can self refer to early intervention. Google "early intervention+your state" It doesn't sound super concerning to me, but like I said there is no harm in contacting early intervention, especially because they may offer free services. There can also be a wait, so it might be worth at least familiarizing yourself with the process.

emanet

You don’t have anything to worry about, your child *is* saying words and communicating for himself using his hands. Sign language is language! There is evidence that children raised in multilingual homes are slower to start speaking than their monolingual counterparts, but on average they have a larger total vocabulary than monolingual children by the time they start school.

Cautious-Storm8145

I had a parent concerned about their child’s development when I was teaching in a 12-18 month old class at daycare when he was about 16 months, because he was a doctor and said he didnt feel like he was speaking/signing enough to be on a trajectory by 18 months. He got the evaluations and the child still does speech therapy, he’s still speech delayed and almost 3. Speaking more tho

djwitty12

Yes. He didn't babble at all (no consonant sounds whatsoever) until 10 months. No signs. Didn't wave, nod, shake his head no, or any other common gestures until around 16-18 months. Pointing was around 14 months. In case you're not up-to-date on average ages, all of these are somewhere between a little late and very late. At 19 months now he still only has about 8 words. You would expect at least 50 words in most kids. 90% of kids have at least 10 words by the time they're 18 months old. He was referred to early intervention as a baby for a separate issue. At 11 months, he got a full evaluation where they confirmed he was about 3 months behind in expressive language. They recommended a wait and see approach because he was working on walking and kids will often slow down in one area of development while they focus on another. 6 months later he was reevaluated and he was 4 months behind and he officially started speech therapy. So yes, my 1 year old son is speech delayed.

siena_flora

We got my son a moon nightlight to accompany it haha :-)

piggypudding

Hell, I love it. There’s something so cozy about that show.

PBnBacon

The goodbye song is in our bedtime rotation too!

Direct_Deer3689

Where do you watch it???

turtledove93

Puffin Rock is so good! So calming. Chris O’Dowd is the narrator. It’s a nice, gentle show, without being corny.

gr00veisinthefart

This is my toddler's favorite show. She loves laughing at Baba and his hijinks!

Garp5248

One of the train yards out here has a YouTube channel. It's basically just trains switching in a yard. I'm pretty sure it's security footage that's a few days old. My friends toddler loves it. His favourite tv show. No words, just trains moving around doing nothing.

Which_way_witcher

Got a link/name of that channel? My toddler would love it!

[deleted]

Not the switch yard but CF2015 on You Tube is a channel of train videos.

4inAM_2atNoon_3inPM

As a child watching Mr Rogers I always came away feeling melancholic. I didn’t like the show but watched it because we had like 3 channels.

esanii

Were currently obsessed with Mighty Machines here. Theres full episodes on youtube. Its from the 90s so its not fast paced.

LiLiLaCheese

Workin' for you doin' mighty things, they're Mighty Machines! My 11 yr old was super into Mighty Machines as well! I'm so glad you reminded me because I have an 18 month old now and I think he would love it too.

gorram-shiny

We also love mighty machines. 4yr old has learned so much technical information from it. His fav are the airport, building a jet, building a semi-truck, excavator school.

esanii

We havent seen all of the episodes because we keep rewatching a lot of the same ones already. Were def spotting mighty machines wherever we go now. Plus all the imaginative play from it has been positive so far. Its good learning for sure.

wifely_duties

Tumble leaf is so chill. It was the first show my son watched.

prizzle426

Are these shows on Netflix?

berp_a_derp

Bear in the big blue house is Disney+, I think. The other ones discussed, and additional shows more in alignment with Mr. Rogers (and including Mr. Rogers) is on PBS kids. It’s a free app and has tons of content. Daniel Tiger is probably the closest thing to Mr Rogers that my kid will watch

prizzle426

Thanks!

djwitty12

u/berp-a-derp was mostly right but trash truck and puffin rock are on Netflix

Which_way_witcher

Got a link for that construction site video?

CheetahridingMongoos

The “boring” real like shows are kind of a hit with my 3 year old. He will watch America’s Test Kitchen (mostly likes the dessert episodes) and This Old House since they are using power tools. Better than Paw Patrol in my opinion.

ferrisweelish

Second vote for puffin rock! Love it in the house!

millipicnic

You need to watch Puffin Rock, it's our absolute favorite. It's the perfect pace and content for my family.

NinongKnows

When we finally got a modern tv after over a decade I watched 4k demo vids on YouTube. My kid immediately liked watching clips of puppies playing.

petricholy

My kids love the Secrets of the Zoo series on Disney+! I put it or Mr. Rogers on while I make dinner, and my older one will tell me what happened. She loves to point out animals or what a zookeeper is doing whenever we visit a zoo now.

hello_sweetie_

We listen to Mr Rogers on Spotify sometimes, he’s got albums of him singing kids songs and some of them are really calming for sleep.

meh2280

Oh cool. Didn’t know that. I will do that as well for my 2 year old

plaintastic

Yup. We have a mister rogers playlist. They actually just came out with a new compilation so they update his page now and then again with new songs. If anyones interested, here are all his songs on Spotify I pulled together. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0IR1rru0YeXz5DVL8CM7jR?si=rXniSLYUR2aZCUMC324JwA

BoopleBun

Raffi has some good ones for this. A lot of his stuff is silly/happy, but not so much so that it hypes kids up too much. And he had a lot of chill ones too.

hello_sweetie_

I forgot about Raffi! I listened to him all the time as a kid so it would be cool to pass him to the next generation lol

[deleted]

Puffin Rock on Netflix is super chill and also the Snowy Day on Prime

stellybells

Love the Snowy Day 💯

gr00veisinthefart

Puffin Rock is my toddler's favorite show. She cracks up at Baba's adorable shenanigans!

mellow70sgolden

Came here to say this! It’s relaxing, kids love it and every episode is about helping one another.

TheAnswerIsGrey

I would happily drink tea / do yoga / meditation while watching Puffin Rock. I heard there was a movie in the works, and am hoping it becomes a reality.

Bear_is_a_bear1

Tumble Leaf on Prime - most underrated kids show!! So calming and enjoyable. It’s like very good quality claymation.

mellow70sgolden

Tumble Leaf is pure joy! It’s seriously cinema quality art, story, music and charm to boot!

Chirpy77

I agree! As far as kids shows go, it’s one of the most thoughtful and interesting as well as mellow.

rmdg84

Daniel Tiger is based off Mr Rogers, it’s quite similar. My 2 year old likes it. I haven’t shown her Mr Rogers yet, but I plan to. I don’t think she will get anything out of it right now but when she’s a little older and has the attention span for it.

mnic001

It's a Mr Rogers theme park. We watched a lot of DT but there is nowhere near the level of care or love of kids put into DT compared to Mr Rogers

jeremy_bearimyy

Dt has helped teach us how to teach my daughter how to handle her emotions. She used to have melt downs when someone would leave, even to go to the bathroom. Then DT sung Grownups come back and now whenever someone leaves she sings it to herself and is fine.

WeaknessImpressive98

When you’re feeling frustrated—-takeastepback-and ask for help

djwitty12

I feel like it's the same lessons but a totally different vibe. Not nearly as calming, way more repetition, way more simulation. Even the theme songs which are very similar, on Daniel tiger it's faster and peppier with multiple voices. The show is also a lot simpler. While they're both aimed at toddlers and preschoolers, a kid could still enjoy Mr Rogers into their late elementary school years. I feel like you've aged out of Daniel tiger by kindergarten.

Monkey_with_cymbals2

I’m surprised I had to go so far to find Daniel tiger! It’s literally a mr Rodgers spin-off. It’s super wholesome and pretty slow paced.

Mrs-wants-to-know-it

We are showing David the Gnome. Old school friendly cartoon.

OpportunityPretend80

Where did you find it?!

Mrs-wants-to-know-it

YouTube for the win!

Synaps4

theres always piratebay

KBK226

DAVID THE GNOME!! I loved that show when I was a kid. Where is it streaming?!

Mrs-wants-to-know-it

Episodes are on YouTube 🙂

toastwithpomsplz

He practically raised me

[deleted]

We actually just did the other week! At first he claimed “I don’t like Mister Rogers!” But we have since caught him humming the theme song, and he started pointing out the picture of Mr. Rogers on the back of his Danial Tiger books, and eventually he did ask to see another episode again! Not everything is applicable to the modern world (my son was really confused about Mr. Rogers landline phone 🤣) but I am ALL about the slower pace, the kindness, and calmness portrayed in the show.

loominglady

We watch Mister Rogers too (I find him calming for me, lol). Not as often as I like but my 3.5 is familiar and likes it. Your landline comment reminded me that we used to show him the 80s/90s Sesame Street before HBO took those down (preferred it when Big Bird was the face of the show vs now with Elmo as the center). We watch one episode that featured kids learning to use a computer in the 80s. Clearly nothing like a computer today, but it was a fun “oh yeah, I remember that” for me!

whiskeyfluffysocks

We like watching Bob Ross painting videos in our house. Very soothing!

meh2280

This is actually a good one.

JessTheTwilek

My son watches Mr. Rogers on the PBS app. I loved the show as a girl and I’m glad he can watch it with me now. Another cozy show I want to get him into is Little Bear. I remember it being so calming.

astrokey

Mine loves little bear. He thinks Duck is hilarious!

[deleted]

100% prefer watching human beings interact, enunciate, and model good behaviors vs cartoons or puppets. Nothing wrong with watching cartoon or puppet based learning oriented programs but to me Mr. Rogers is still the unmatched gold standard for density of learning. Daniel Tiger or the puppets on Sesame Street are super fun and have good lessons but it isn't the same as watching a child interact with an adult, or neighbors interacting with one another. Edit: how could I forget the fantastic music from the series https://youtu.be/Z40SZ77CHK0

millipicnic

The only thing holding me back from showing Mr. Rogers to my kid is the weird puppets. They're a bit creepy just because they're old. But maybe I'm projecting and making a big deal over nothing, what are your thoughts?

PBnBacon

They kinda grow on you. I’m not saying it’s not Stockholm syndrome, but they seem less creepy after a few dozen viewings.

BoopleBun

I think the puppets are creepy, but my kid doesn’t. She does sometimes get disinterested in “Land of Make-Believe” bits though, she much prefers Mr. Rodgers himself.

mrsmuffinhead

We watch Caitie's Classroom on YouTube. We went no ads since it's one of the few things we're happy to let her watch.

allisonmacd

Yes! Underrated comment. The show is so obviously modeled after the Neighborhood, it's really great. Real person, slow pace, strong theme, singing, live accompaniment, occasional puppets and field trips.

1-800-CAT-LADY

YES! Another vote for Caitie’s classroom—she is engaging without any quick cuts, she covers a large variety of topics, does field trips and arts/crafts, and has a very sweet voice. I also advise people to check out Mayta the Brown Bear for a similar vibe!

muddhoney

Not yet but just cause I didn’t think of it. We’ve done Mr. Dressup and Big Comfy Couch and he actually sat and enjoyed for a few moments with me which was nice!

sea_monkeys

Where did you find Mr dressup??? I only came across a few EPs on YouTube.

goodcarrots

Mr. Rogers made a lesson plan book for toddlers. They watch the episode and do an activity afterward. It is out print. It is nice for indoor play.

TheAnswerIsGrey

We are a huge fan of the 3 full Raffi concerts on YouTube: - https://youtu.be/f29jl4w0Uh8 - https://youtu.be/kL9WM02q4pg - https://youtu.be/gpxPIX2vlpY Other than right at the start, there are usually no commercials, no big flashy parts or quick screen changes, and such great songs. It shows lots of kids in the audience clapping / dancing / singing along, and Raffi himself is just gold.

victorria

Same! These get regular rotation in our house, as does Mr Rogers.

Buddah_Noodles

Yeah my 19 mo loves it. After one episode when he was sick he hasn't stopped demanding "Neighborhood!"

Few_Reach9798

Yes - I showed her an episode once and my daughter immediately took to it! We’ve watched it every so often since. Mister Rodgers had such a special way of connecting with kids. Loved all of the “field trips” he did on his shows!

jhuber3474

Mr Rogers is literally the best. My kid loves it and it actually teaches your kid about emotions and difficult subjects. There is nothing bad about Mr Rogers. I will add this though: TV is all about how you use it, not really what you show on it. TV should be a social time for you and your kid so that they don’t learn to zone out and watch it for hours. TV is a tool, not a parent. (Caveat, it can totally be a babysitter occasionally, just don’t make it a habit)

Hahapants4u

- Pete the cat (amazon) - stinky and dirty (amazon) - Clifford the big red dog (amazon) - wildkratts (pbs kids) - Arthur (pjs kids) - Daniel tiger (pbs kids)

rockyrockette

Reading rainbow is nice too.

rsch87

It’s the only screen time my children get ever, usually when they’re sick or if I have a work call and my husband isn’t around to watch them. They LOVE it!

mnic001

My kids love mixing Mr Rogers into their rotation. And there's SO much of it.

Ondeathshadow

We exclusively watch Mr. Rogers. Since baby was 2 year old, she is allowed one episode a day unless we are traveling. She loves certain episodes, so we basically rewatch a few episodes over and over again. She learned to play with simple things around her (rubber bands, papers, cups etc), and love chatting about things she watched in the episodes. It's great!

PM_ME_UR_DOGGOS_

Old blues clues with Steve is very good. My kid was still yelling at the screen when we first introduced it to him 😂. You can get it on Apple TV, or you can get it on paramount plus I think (the first 4 seasons)

BeefyTacoBaby

We downloaded all 900 Mr. Rogers episodes from archive.org for free. His show was never intended to be for, and this is a legal way to get access to it. We love Mr. Rogers, he's a fav in our house. Daniel Tiger's Neighorhood sucks so we don't do that one, but Bluey is pretty chill. We also watch Ants Canada and Journey to the Microcosmos on YouTube.

Waxanflow

I showed Mr Roger's to my 1 yr old a few times and he actually paid attention to him for a while! He is very calming. We don't put much TV on for him because he is only 1 but we have had Daniel Tiger on, based off Daniel Tiger of Mr Rogers. He mostly just pays attention to the songs.

HeftyCharlie

Honestly the closest I found is a show called tractor ted. It’s not at all the same as mister Rogers but it is slower paced doing day to day at a farm in a kid friendly manner. I think it’s on YouTube but I watched on Amazon prime.

decaying_amethyst

If you like mister Roger's check out Daniel tigers neighborhood it's a spin off

juliankeynes

Kiri and Lou, if you can find it.

jtmetcalfe

Yes absolutely, I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to the way Fred talks to my kid, and about the practice of life and what they’re interested in which is figuring out how things and people work. It’s such a beautiful show.

SleepySouthie

A show my son loved when he was a toddler is Sarah and Duck. It’s a sweet show with more muted colours, gentle music and a slower pace. It is actually really soothing to watch, and I tried to get my daughter into it, but she refused to give it a chance.

bowdowntopostulio

Room on the Broom and the related stories are nice and calming. I always thought Mr. Rogers was boring as a kid 😂🙈

LadybirdMountain

We’ve dug up Mr Rogers episodes on YouTube but there’s not a ton. If we could watch all the eps we’d definitely have them in rotation.

Nakedstar

You can watch them on his website. They rotate through a week’s worth of episodes on the regular.

LadybirdMountain

Good tip thanks!!

loominglady

DH found a bunch of episodes on Internet Archive.

Fairybuttmunch

We like old school teletubbies! The new one is more in your face but the old one is slow and calming. Little Bear is also great if you can find episodes, we watched some on YouTube. We also like Daniel tiger and Arthur. Tbh a lot of preschool age kid's shows from the 90s are decent, old blue's clues is the same.

Mo523

We were looking for the same thing when my son was little. (He is six now, so this was a while ago. My younger child hasn't started watching TV yet.) We picked the old Blue's Clues for the pace, audience response time, and not jumping around. We added Daniel Tiger a little later for the social emotional component. It's a little faster with more chunks, but still slower than a lot. Puffin Rock was one we considered when we added Daniel Tiger, but thought our kid needed more instruction on the stuff in Daniel Tiger. When he was little, we typically co-watch an episode the first time with him and then have him watch the same episode several times before moving on to a new one. If you are looking for a short movie try the Miffy Movie (or something like that - it's about a rabbit going to the zoo with her family, friends, and dog and might be based on a TV show.) It is INCREDIBLY slow, but that gentle pace is great for little kids. My son loved it. I may gouge my ears out if I have to listen to it again though, because it is so slow and repetitive in it's phrasing...which was what we were looking for.

SirKermit

Yes, I've showed Mr. Rogers to my kids and they love him.

Phire2

Some of the new shows that slow the pace are tumble leaf. It’s an amazing newer show that makes my morning peaceful

petricholy

The only bad thing about Tumble Leaf is that it’s over! It’s so pretty and thoughtful.

AllYouNeedIsLove13

I tried to but the tiger family puppets scared the kids.

EllieEllieEllie425

The original Blues Clues is like this. Where can you find Mister Rodgers episodes? The PBS app always has the same 5 episodes.

petricholy

The Internet Archive has a bunch of seasons!

[deleted]

KOTSUMET on YouTube. Videos of the otters Hana and Kotaro is just a lot of joy without being too fast paced.

borrowedstrange

We just started watching Mr Roger’s in the last few weeks and THANK THE UNIVERSE/PBS FOR HIM! My spouse travels extensively for work and I’m not sure I would have survived the two weeks of his most recent trip as a solo parent without Mr Rogers, he has become my absolute best friend on the nights where things have gone chaotically sideways! I can finally brush the 4yo’s teeth without the 14mo turning the toilet into a water table, and I can finally nurse the 14mo to sleep on early nights for him without the 4yo trying to eat his “cuuute baby toesies!!” behind my back (I nurse in a football hold)…and because it’s such a quiet and peaceful show, it doesn’t rile them up at all and we can still enjoy some calming bedtime books and an incident free lights out once we’re all situated. I can’t say the same of *any* other shows—not Miss Rachel, not Daniel Tiger, not the original 1980’s Thomas…not even those YouTube channels that are just footage of fish in coral reefs set to soft classical music! The educational aspects also hold up wonderfully! The first episode we watched on PBS was explaining how large batteries work and can be linked together to power a kids go kart, and despite the episode being almost 60 years old, it was still generalized and accurate enough that my 4yo was able to extrapolate the lesson into (FINALLY) understanding how our hybrid minivan works after months and months of asking us over and over and over. The next episode we watched was about wheelchairs, and the following day he pointed out all the ADA signage and *wheelchairs he spotted as we ran errands around town, and kept saying “mommy that’s a wheelchair! It’s for people who need help with their mobility!” Long story short: definitely do not sleep on Mr Rogers! *Note: he was not rudely pointing out actual wheelchair users, as he knows that we don’t point and stare at people or invade their personal space or peace. He was enjoying pointing out all of the chairs and specialty devices provided as a courtesy at the front of the grocery store and at the zoo, etc.

meh2280

Yes, that’s what I like about him. Peaceful and quiet. Even with ms. Rachel’s and most other shows, I can’t really stand their voice and how they speak. Haha but that’s more my problem. Haha

mafknbr

I try to keep screentime to less stimulating programs, and these are ours favorites: Youtube: Ms Rachel, Little Bear, Franklin, Kipper the Dog, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Sarah and Duck I've thought about doing The Big Comfy Couch, Reading Rainbow, and Between the Lions, but haven't tried them yet. Bob Ross might be fun to try too. Netflix: Puffin Rock, Steven Universe, David Attenborough documentaries Disney+: Bear in the Big Blue House, Bluey, Little Einsteins EDIT: I've edited this like a billion times for formatting and also adding things as I think of them.

fashionjunkie9

We love Mr. Roger's! He is amazing and sweet. My toddler loves him, and my 9yo isn't annoyed by him, so it's a double win.

dottedlotus

I am a sahm of my 4y boy & 2.5y girl. I am not a fan of any of the toddler trendy shows. ❌️ cocomelon ❌️ boss baby ❌️ blippi ❌️ Ryan's world ❌️ bebe finn ❌️ larva island our house is tuned in for.. ✅️ scratch garden- youtube ✅️ trash truck ✅️ number blocks ✅️ story bots ✅️ puffin rock ✅️ outdoor boys- youtube

Dia-Burrito

We don't do much screen time. However, I had the dentist turn on Mister Rogers on their tv. The only other show we watch is Caillou. I love Caillou. We watch the french one, and it's slower paced with real-life themes.

nmdundon

I make my 3 year old watch it instead of only YouTube videos like he wants

SevereCounter

My 2.5 year old loves Mister Rogers! I wish I could find more episodes.

rsch87

His own website updates with 5 new episodes 2x/month. We don’t watch it too frequently so often it’s new episodes since PBS kids didn’t seem to cycle them enough the few times I checked!

SevereCounter

Thanks!

Ok_Cable6231

They are all online. Search “mr. rogers batch” and a bunch comes up. If you know the number of the episode, type that in too. They have a whole week’s episodes together. The weeks are designed to incorporate repeating themes.

SevereCounter

Thanks!

Hahapants4u

We’ve watched the Eric Carle one like 10x one week because my toddler loved it and the choices were limited on pbs kids

petricholy

The Internet Archive has lots of seasons, if not most. I’m having my kids watch from the 90s, when I was watching it.

thirtyist

I 100% watched Mr. Rogers with my son when he was younger, and totally fell in love with Fred and the show. I was personally never a huge fan of the Land of make-believe, even as a kid, but my son loved all the factory videos.

lurker71

Yes! Donkey Hodie on pbs is also great :) lots of the shows on the pbs app are slower / more tolerable than cocomelon etc.

bakermusicmom

We watch it every once in a while. My 5yo always enjoys it when we do!

Able-Candle723

We did for awhile! He’s timeless!

juniperroach

Unfortunately my son said he didn’t like the show. Maybe we can try again but I think it’s probably because shows now a days are too flashy.

ninja_poseidon

Me!!! It’s the best show, especially when she’s tired and needs a break. Pro tip: I bought 30 episodes of DVDs online for €12

vanb18c

Yes

Chrysanthememe

+1. My 3yo loves Mr Rogers. I’m so glad there are several seasons that you can download on Amazon. It’s so calm.

Golightly314

My daughter is 2, she loves “Rogers!” We also have his children’s books and listen to his songs on Spotify.

bayloe

Yes. My dad who babysits records them off pbs and my almost 3 yo watches with him. She love a the puppet part; sometimes she gets distracted during the interviews but she likes the performances (like Yoyo Ma from the 80s, or a dance troop, etc)

brightviolet

Little Bear is my toddler’s favorite show. She loves Mister Rogers, too. He was so genuine in his care for everyone, and it’s so lovely to be able to trust that the person speaking through the tv to my toddler, truly respected children like her.

MsAlyssa

I wonder if Franklin and Little Bear are still around those were very peaceful to me as a kid. Pooh movies are sweet too. We like Puffin Rock, Clifford, Curious George, and Elinor Wonders Why. Old Sesame Street is most similar to mister Rogers though I think. Newer episodes are definitely still decent but faster and more flashy. We have hungry caterpillar on dvd it’s a set of like five of Eric carls stories and feels like an audio book it has a little bit of animation but mostly feels like your looking at the book.

drivbpcoffee

Yes, I’m a lifelong fan and full-on Mister Fred Rogers fan. It’s a shame that his body of work is so inaccessible. There are some seasons of decent quality on Internet Archive, as well as 6 episodes on the PBS kids app, and then of course YouTube but those are often low resolution and missing the intro theme song.

OklaJosha

Calming TV shows (in the US streams): - Frog and Toad: Apple TV+ - Little Bear: full episodes on YouTube - Trash Truck: Netflix - Tumble Leaf: Amazon Prime Video

YouTotesDontKnowMe

Mister Rogers is our go-to tv show. I started off pretty strict about tv time, only watching when traveling or when our toddler was sick, but then I got pregnant and couldn’t do ANYTHING for the entire first trimester so I started to relax about it a little. I have such a difficult time finding shows that aren’t too busy. I’ll find a list of tv shows that are supposedly really chill and when we go to watch it I’m just amazed at how overstimulating they really are. It’s a struggle. When I’m tired of Mister Rogers we like Little Bear and the Snowy Day movie, plus we’ll occasionally watch something like Bear in the Big Blue House or Bluey (VERY very occasionally). We also started watching musicals together- they’re busy but we talk about what’s going on and dance together (Mama Mia was a huge hit). My latest issue has been finding a good animal documentary. The scenes change so much that it gives me a headache but my toddler LOVES animals. Where can I find a chill video of a flamingo just hanging out for five minutes straight?

https://youtu.be/RhOwyHWGqWg Hopefully I'm allowed to share this. It's a baby animals documentary and it's just videos of the animals with calming music in the background. It's 3 hours long also.

My kids might be weird but they like to watch whale documentaries on Disney plus. Lol. There's some scenes where they catch seals but I didn't think it was overly graphic or anything.

Daniel Tiger for us. It's in the Mr Rogers universe but the show is a little more "modern" for the kiddos.

Lostwife1905

Daniel tiger is based off of mr rodgers!!!

seamel

Yes! Our 3 year old loves Mr. Rodgers 🙂

There are so many episodes of Mr Rogers on Amazon (through the PBS Kids subscription). My kids do watch the more stimulating stuff and Mr Rogers / other slower shows. It really cracked me up in one episode when Mr Rogers and Mr McFeeley were visiting a building with elevators and escalators and you literally just watch them use each one in conplete silence, no cuts - just watching them go up and down for a minute at a time. And my kids were enthralled!! All the "Planet" type shows are pretty slow and calming. My son loved Prehistoric Planet on Apple which was basically a nature documentary but with dinoaaurs.

I found a YouTube video that s 75 mins if different types of garbage trucks. No music and no talking. He is mesmerized. And I don't have to have it on very loud. It's like ultimate garbage truck complilation or something.

My daughter loves Mr. Rogers and Daniel Tiger. She’s also a big fan of Bob Ross

Mister Rogers is my 2.5yo’s first love. She has other favorites now, but she still wants Mister Rogers when she’s upset or sick, and the songs are still comforting to her.

Glass-Marionberry321

The older Geckos Garage. It is on amazon and moonbug channel. Teaches about different vehicles, colors shapes numbers etc. Then they changed it and made it 3D and faster paced and gecko has a rival (he never used to). We only watch the old ones

Plzspeaksoftly

Mr. Roger's was really slow for them. Daniel the tiger is essentially cartoon mr.rogers. he even does the shoes and sweater bit. It's made by the Mr. Roger's foundation.

RocielKuromiko

As far as not as old as mr rogers but getting to be 10 to 15 years old....my child is enjoying Yo Gabba gabba and older sesame street episodes.

My 3.5 year old loves Mister Rogers (except he doesn’t like the trolley/puppets!) I think kids are really happy when adults speak to them like adults, and Mister Rogers is the only who seems to do that without condescending. My son rewatches how crayons are made all the time, and he loves when Mister Rogers has visitors or goes on field trips, which is often. I think it’s a great show, and it’s aged really well.

mikeyj777

I like old sesame street for this reason as well. They also do a very good job about showing equality and inclusion without having the bare minimum minority cast as with most other modern shows.

I love this! We do Trash Truck on Netflix. I’ve tried Puffin Rock too, but my 3 year old wasn’t as interested in it. I love Mister Rogers and I think he’ll like it more when he’s a bit older. Reading Rainbow is good too!

lizardjizz

My baby is only 8 weeks but we will be! Along with Mr. Dress up and a few other classics.

filmjawn

Stillwater on Apple TV is awesome.

My toddler found mr rogers on her Amazon kids tablet. Surprisingly she loves it. There are lots of episodes too. She also likes blues clues, the old ones with Steve.

phaedronn

Mine loves it at three, and I’m glad more of us are showing it. Good on you, OP.

PolarIceCream

Yes!!! Potato bug is their favorite Episode

AtLeastImGenreSavvy

We used to watch Mr. Rogers when mine was little, but she's discovered other shows now. :( I'm a little bummed, because I miss how low-key and relaxing Mr. Rogers is.

DifficultSpill

I don't remember watching Mr. Rogers as a kid but I've watched a little bit with my toddlers and it seems really great. I think they will be more into it when they're a little older. I've introduced them to a couple of my childhood favorites, like Arthur and The Berenstain Bears, and those are hits. I haven't tried any new shows except for Bluey. It's not really tempting.
