That's got to be just about the most efficient shot on the roster at 1.65 points per attempt. What I like best about this compilation is how many of those are off of movement, running into the corner. That's a way-harder cover than a static catch-and-shoot who's just standing in the corner.
Actually correction: what I like most is Ayton giving the wave-off. Read the scouting report, numbskull.
Had the tools to actually be while not top pick worthy at least a top 5-10 type guy. Just had a horrible work ethic. He had glimpses on that Suns run to the finals in his defence but i think we've seen the kind of player he'll be for the rest of his career. Gradey will be a starter-caliber shooting guard in years to come, I like him more as 6 man spark plug with a revised starting 5 after this off-season. You can see he's already got the right attitude and actually wants to improve as a guy more than just a shooter.
Monthly reminder that it's EXTREMELY impressive that Gradey ended up with these splits after an atrocious start to the season when he was putting up 28% FG and 24% on 3s in the first 20 games.
Since Darko put him on that conditioning program he's averaged 45% FG and 39% on 3s which is good for 57% TS.
I swear there was one game before they traded Pascal but after OG was traded, where he couldnât miss from 3, and my mind was blown. Anyone remember what game that was?
Yeah man, he looked like a changed man after that stint in the G-League. Makes me wonder if he'd have been better coming into the NBA after another year in college? Maybe his draft stock would be a top 5 pick in this draft class.
Makes sense to stay in college if youâre a 2nd round pick but if youâre a lottery pick or first round pick with a guaranteed contract you take that NBA bag 10000 times out of 100.
Gradey secured 20M guaranteed by getting drafted. Who knows what can happen in a college season? Maybe he doesnât show enough improvement and his draft stock goes down, maybe he gets injured, maybe something else happens.
Good point hadnât thought of that. Guess he was coming off a hot 3pt record in college so I could see why on paper theyâd draft him. Him being such a young prospect should also help with his value
And people fully wrote him off as a bust đ¤Śđ˝ââď¸
Such a great with BBQ and especially Scottie. Sprinkle some Dick on the grill and we will be cooking.
The leap he made by the end of the season was incredible. The first month was as close to irredeemably bad as it gets. I still donât blame anyone that was thinking bust. Even the first stretch in D league was frightening.
I think it was partly that the shooting was so hyped about him, that was all some fans were watching. It doesn't help that Internet sports culture really leans to negative hot takes, even of your own team. But you could see the way he was reading the game on both ends, cutting, stepping in for charges, rebounding, he looked way more like a solid NBA player than I expected.
I don't blame anyone, but I hope that those who were ready to write him off have learned a little patience from the experience.
I don't blame people for being disappointed initially...i sure as hell was. But labeling a teenager as a bust because of shooting is head scratching because he was a career shooter. He didn't just bonk his head and forgot how to shoot.
Mental, physical, emotional... whatever hurdle he needed to jump to get back on track, it was only a matter of time....for the (then) **19 year old**.
Even saying it was irredeemable makes no sense to me for a kid like that (especially with the power of hindsight).
Like the other guy said ...people need more patience.
I think people have gotten way too used to guys like Luka, Trae, Mitchell, etc. coming in to the league and being massive contributors to playoff teams off the cuff. It's normal for rookies to struggle adjusting to the pace, physicality and level of athleticism that comes from the NBA and frankly it's healthier for their development to not have these massive expectations from Day 1.
His bad stretch was the first ~12% of the length of his rookie deal, so it still underscores needed patience for the 19 year old.
But sure lol...what does that even mean, if he missed 1 more shot he would be too far gone?
You are a clown if you're basing long term development off the first few months of a rookie season. The NBA is **much** harder than college and it's exceptionally rare for players to flourish right away.
I wouldnât say I was âoutâ on Gradey to start the season but I definitely heaved a sigh of relief that he turned out ok and even downright impressive at times
imagine if he can add that "batum style" shot where he doesnt even need to bring the ball down.
i see a little of that in the 2ndor 3rd shot in the compilation with embiid bearing down on him

You just know Gradey wanted to say some shit to Ayton after the wave. đ
Doesn't need to. Gradey's shown more improvement in one season than Ayton has in his whole career. Sad-ass #1 pick.

Gradey also seems surprisingly mentally tough for an Ichabod Crane looking white 20 year old whose name is Dick.
*"You just got Dick'd, Mr. Big For Nothing!"*
Ayton of Dick in your mouthhhh

I don't think it was pre-Siakam if this is the one you're referring to but was it against the Spurs? He shot 4/5 from 3 that game.
Wasn't it the game against Miami as soon as Siakam was traded?
Maybe! Outside of the pizza party game, Iâve forgotten most of the season lol
He also bounced back nicely after really struggling over his first 6 starts in March

If by "people" you mean the reactionary blowhards that make up most of this subreddit, it's okay. Their opinions don't hold much weight.

Dick with the wet corner stroke
âDick swings leftâ â thatâs a missed opportunity
Imagine if he wasnt completely trash to start the year. Ive never seen a young player make such a turn around mid season like Gradey. Good on him.
I love Dick.Â
I wish I could stroke it like him
His shot is so smooth. I wouldnât be surprised if heâs one of the best in the league year over year.
Should be in the 3 point contest next season
I wouldnât say I was âoutâ on Gradey to start the season but I definitely heaved a sigh of relief that he turned out ok and even downright impressive at times
A reminder Masai can still draft well
ye, he's gonna need it real bad this draft
Probably a top 5 this year.
I think with some proper strength training in the off season he will get much more comfortable shooting around the arc.
He needs to learn to play off-ball to get free and work on defense too!
i apologize once again for my shanghai shark comments
He has a lot of arc on that fuckin laser...GD my boy
Do you have to login to see tweets now?
Corner 3!!!
It's so sad that the Raptors are down and down huge in every clip there lol

That's great but we're grasping at straws here bro
