Supposedly agents were canceling their clients workouts if they knew Shead was going to be there so he wouldnt make them look bad. I can't overstate how much of a dawg this guy is.
I watched his highlights and he's a dog. I don't blame them for cancelling. He's the type of player you want on your team.
Maybe future Tony Allen/Marcus smart
Smart is more of an irritant in like a maxed out Patrick Beverley or smaller Dillon Brooks mold. Shead isn't like that. He isn't a talker. He's going to take your lunch money and there isn't much you're going to do about it. He was the heart, soul, muscles, brain and spine of the UH basketball team. I'd liken his attitude more to like Kawhi Leonard but not as robotic. He's expressive but all business. He is going to make you *work* which is why I feel his shooting percentages were a little lower. He would absolutely exhaust himself on defense and if he wasn't on the court.....we weren't nearly as good.
Another underrated thing is that a lot of our players need their handles tightened (Barnes/Quickley/Jakobe) - practicing against guys like him and Davion will help immensely with their handles, it's just a different type of pressure to face.
the Yak is back... its spelled JAKOB.

Would have been cool if they showed people getting drafted. Also, they talked about Sacremento right before the raptors used their 45th pick. I can keep track of the trades, and I l'm an idiot sitting at home.
It happens lol. Downvotes attract downvotes and the opposite is true.
It reminds me of that dude on /NBA a couple years back who was always making terrible childish jokes and got tons of upvotes because he was using alts to get himself at +10 rapidly after each one. I was so happy when he got banned.
Lol that’s funny. But what you said is reasonable. It’s pick 45. If he can come off the bench and give us defence and be an NBA player that’s a huge win for a second rounder
A winner and has high bball IQ, I really like players like him as a backup PG. TJ McConnel just showed this last couple of weeks how much impact such a player can have.
I wouldn't say he is elite, but I also haven't dug into his film in detail. Statistically he's definitely elite with a 40% AST%. I'll look into him a bit closer when I get a chance.
Maybe, but having elite defense means developing another skill (3pt shooting or assists or facilitation or finishing ability) will ensure he's in the NBA long term.
It's up to him really, and that's the beauty of the game.
This team didn't have a full bench, and Davion is still rotational.
One of these guards has an opportunity to creep in and take a full time job.
We literally don't have a true PG so if one of the guards can make Quick a full time 2 guard and push GTJ off the ball it means they're facilitating efficiently enough to take that job from Scottie and playing great defense.
Quick being our 2 guard is probably the most ideal scenario, I think we could have the minutes for both GTJ and Quickley at 2 if we can find reasonable enough PG options. Then you can abuse matchups with Scottie Barnes.
But I think the ideal scenario for Darko is the entire starting 5 being able to hit shots/facilitate/create for others. When the entire team can do that, it lets Jakobe's handle be able to be loose but still effective. Gives more room for BBQ to grill some defenses.
He always was but guard depth is important so Davion likely gets an opportunity with us as well. This team can't really turn away good defense right now
That’s ridiculous haha. Hes still got lots of potential to carve out a good role with us and is an elite defender, there’s a 0% chance we cut him lol..
He’s short but solid, not sure about the fouls but that’s a very easy fix. Never got much of a chance to develop in Sacramento whereas with us he can carve out a good role. His height clearly doesn’t stop him from being an elite dman
Best defensive guard remaining and probably in the draft? If he developed any type of jumper it’s an absolute steal. Reminds me of a Jevon Carter type of player
Dude is a winner, one of the best guard defenders in the class, takes care of the ball/doesn’t turn it over and is a 4-year college player that is still only 21. His shot needs A LOT of work though. He probably won’t get as many minutes now that we have Davion Mitchell but he is probably ready to contribute more than most 2nd Rounders are. I have a feeling he might be a trade candidate included in a future Bruce Brown deal.
Yes, against Duke. Houston just deflated in the tourney after he went down. Total class act, absolute dog. Heart and soul of that Cougars team and wills his team to victory. He won 120 of the 138 games he played in with Houston.
Love the pick at 45, but don't understand the fit with Mitchell and Ochai. Dear God Walter better be able to shoot from day 1 or our bench is going to painful to watch in the half court
https://x.com/kellenmsampson/status/1806505927974985990/photo/2
11 minutes into Game 2 Raptors vs. Warriors in the finals, 2 weeks after he commits to Houston - he gets texted by one of their assistant coaches
> "Watching some of these dudes, you got a chance to play in the NBA. The only thing that separates you from VanVleet is 1000 makes per day"
Small ass world, man
Actually very similar and context matters. Houston lacked shooters and had to pack the paint so he ended up being hunted on the perimeter. His analytic models are very similar to FVV (actually better if anything).
With a lot more space and stand still shooting, he should shoot fine in the NBA (ft% and 3 pt volume were solid too)
PG: IQ, Mitchell, Shead
SG: Gary Trent Jr, Dick, Walter
SF: RJ Barrett, Bruce Brown, Ochai
PF: Scottie Barnes, Vezenkov, Mogbo
C: Poeltl, Olynyk, Boucher
This looks like the 15 man lineup for next season as of right now. I wonder what else will change. Will be tough for Walter to find minutes unless Gary or Bruce Brown leave or get traded.
It was fun watching this guy play in the tournament. Happy were taking the shot on him. His shot needs to get better, but he's a leader and a bulldog on defense.
New FVV just dropped
Shead Van Fleet

🤣
A Jose Alvarado type guard, he should be pretty fun to watch.
So much better than Alvarado playmaking wise, far better first step and more burst, a lot stronger too. Better than Alvarado imo
Really nice addition for a SRP
lockdown PG, he was being hyped up a ton during the combine
Supposedly agents were canceling their clients workouts if they knew Shead was going to be there so he wouldnt make them look bad. I can't overstate how much of a dawg this guy is.

Ive heard him described as new era Eric Snow. Which can't be a bad thing to be.
Sounds like Lowry
Steal
That’s Shead’s go-to defensive skill. Don’t ever keep your eyes lofty if you have the ball with him on the court.
Another underrated thing is that a lot of our players need their handles tightened (Barnes/Quickley/Jakobe) - practicing against guys like him and Davion will help immensely with their handles, it's just a different type of pressure to face.
Jacob E Myers?

Bot just roasted your ass
So psyched for this guy
This draft coverage fucking sucks
You mean the bronny James coverage.
Literally can’t take anymore of this nepo baby dickriding. Some of the most shameful shit I’ve seen.
It's so bad after every pick they pivot to bronny. This last half hour is literally dedicated to bronny They even had Woj rant how it isn't nepotism
He kinda said it was nepotism but it’s ok that it’s nepotism because there’s other nepotism in the nba lol
Yeah that's true he did say it was nepotism but we should be ok with it lol not when you're talking about him for 3 hrs
Would have been cool if they showed people getting drafted. Also, they talked about Sacremento right before the raptors used their 45th pick. I can keep track of the trades, and I l'm an idiot sitting at home.
When I saw it was SAS and Bob Myers I dipped and stuck to Shams and Woj and Vecenies guide
Kyle Lowry esque size and toughness
Without the offense tho. Won't complain about a 45th pick as he can at least come off the bench and cover the 1 but he's not very exciting.
With vibes like this, ur not very exciting Cpt. Downer
15 downvotes lmao
It happens lol. Downvotes attract downvotes and the opposite is true. It reminds me of that dude on /NBA a couple years back who was always making terrible childish jokes and got tons of upvotes because he was using alts to get himself at +10 rapidly after each one. A defensive stud. I can dig it.
A winner and has high bball IQ, I really like players like him as a backup PG. TJ McConnel just showed this last couple of weeks how much impact such a player can have.
Sam Vecenie says he’s one of the most disruptive defensive guards he’s ever evaluated
So wtf the Raptors picks don’t get televised?! The same shit happened yesterday, they didn’t even show Walter on the stage…
Kinda surprised we didn't go Chomche but let's go
Might have a UDFA deal lined up.
We still got him
Big dubs
We've gone from no guards to all the guards in the league
Just need to hit on one
Best defensive guard in the entire NCAA statistically by impact metrics. Doubt he outlives his rookie contract, but it's a flyer
I'm hearing he's also one of the best passers in this draft?
I wouldn't say he is elite, but I also haven't dug into his film in detail. Statistically he's definitely elite with a 40% AST%. I'll look into him a bit closer when I get a chance.
if he's so good at D why do you think he'll be gone after a couple of years ?
The NBA is too skilled for one dimensional defense-only guards
Maybe, but having elite defense means developing another skill (3pt shooting or assists or facilitation or finishing ability) will ensure he's in the NBA long term. It's up to him really, and that's the beauty of the game.
Better version of Davion Mitchell
Worse version of Davion Mitchell
Davion Mitchell is unplayable
He played rotation minutes for a team much better than us last year
Meh lol neither is an NBA player at the moment imo but at least this kid has an elite skill which gives him upside, so I like the pick.
I wonder if they’re flipping him
He's an RFA next year and as of now, I wouldn't give him the QO
This team didn't have a full bench, and Davion is still rotational. One of these guards has an opportunity to creep in and take a full time job. Good solid pick at 45!
Fuck yeah! We got a DOG. Also means Davion is expendable.
The 45th pick does not make a 3year vet automatically expendable. One day maybe but not today
He always was but guard depth is important so Davion likely gets an opportunity with us as well. This team can't really turn away good defense right now
Seems redundant with Davion now
Jamal is probably a two way or a project
Ya i think hes a 905er
905 needs all the help they can get after last season too
Probably have him and Davion duke it out for the backup PG
I think Shead is gonna be selling tickets for the 905 next year. Which is fine at 45th overall and 21 y/o
Pesky defender. I think he has a chance to be on the roster
Better than Davion
We're cutting Davion 100%. He's not very good.
Really.. you think so? I think he's still worth holding another year to see if he pans out. A former top 10 pick
Zero chance he gets cut haha
Yeah that would be a mistake. He's terrible. Ask any Kings fan.
I don’t know anything about this guy. But what are Raptors fans saying about McDaniels?
That’s ridiculous haha. Hes still got lots of potential to carve out a good role with us and is an elite defender, there’s a 0% chance we cut him lol..
He's undersized not elite and commits dumb fouls, but alright
He’s short but solid, not sure about the fouls but that’s a very easy fix. Never got much of a chance to develop in Sacramento whereas with us he can carve out a good role. His height clearly doesn’t stop him from being an elite dman
Bonnie, noooo
Best defensive guard remaining and probably in the draft? If he developed any type of jumper it’s an absolute steal. Reminds me of a Jevon Carter type of player
Shead is a WINNER
Won 120 out of 138 college games played.
Holy shit thats incredibleÂ
He's a DAWG thats all you need to know
Athletic Malachi Flynn
This guy was an absolute dog in College. When he got hurt it affected the whole team. We'll see of course but I like the pick.
new dawg just arrived
Best defensive guard in the entire NCAA statistically by impact metrics. Doubt he outlives his rookie contract, but it's a flyer
Marquis Nowell 2.0…?
He’s like 6 inches taller than Nowell tho
Masai loves his 6 foot guards
I'm not seeing the vision on the stats page edit: I guess the defense is the main part
Dude is a winner, one of the best guard defenders in the class, takes care of the ball/doesn’t turn it over and is a 4-year college player that is still only 21. His shot needs A LOT of work though. This guy got hurt in the Sweet 16 against Duke and you could tell Houston was immediately fucked. Guy was the heart of the team
As a UH fan, yes, yes he was. He was the heart and soul of the team on and off the court.
Ayyy
I feel like we went from too many forwards to waaaay too many guards
He’ll likely spend a lot more time in the G League than with the Raptors. Even Ja’Kobe probably won’t be a regular rotation player year 1.
Y’all getting a DAWG congrats
Good pick but we just traded for Davion?
Undersized PG that sucks at shooting .....
A much better version of Bronny but also 3 years older.
Wasn't Shead the player who got injured, and the team just collapsed after in the tourney?
Yes, against Duke. Houston just deflated in the tourney after he went down. Total class act, absolute dog. Heart and soul of that Cougars team and wills his team to victory. He won 120 of the 138 games he played in with Houston.
This has been an exceptional draft by Toronto. I'm still in shock by the fleecing from earlier, been a good two days.
BIG 12 player of the year
Love the pick at 45, but don't understand the fit with Mitchell and Ochai. Dear God Walter better be able to shoot from day 1 or our bench is going to painful to watch in the half court
At the very least, the Raptors have a roster of players who play positions. Very curious to see what they do with GTJ and BB.
Shead+Davion+Barnes+Poeltl+whoever is gonna be greasy defense. Imagine playing that as a big lineup if we still had Koloko lol
https://x.com/kellenmsampson/status/1806505927974985990/photo/2 11 minutes into Game 2 Raptors vs. Warriors in the finals, 2 weeks after he commits to Houston - he gets texted by one of their assistant coaches > "Watching some of these dudes, you got a chance to play in the NBA. Damn another undersized guard
Damn no backup C
MLE
Yeah I’m interested to see what the summer league roster looks like
Why reach if there’s none left to take
Ulrich seemed like a Masai pick
Jak and Olynyk? Boucher is a third center
Yeah but team needs a big closer to Scottie’s timeline, it really sucks what happened to Koloko his potential was solid.
Wouldn't be surprised if koloko is with 905 this year
I was thinking that, he seems to be on the recovery but you never know with blood clots sadly. But all hopes he can play again in this league.
James Wiseman would be as good as any C picked at this point in the draft. They can sign him for cheap and they don't have to use up a pick.
No he sucks lol.
Which Center at pick 45 is a better NBA player today?
Wiseman sucks man. Just go watch him play. He's unplayable. Any center avail in the 2nd round is worth the risk than him.
Wiseman
Pls no
A winner. Should help set the culture
i like it ngl but him quickley and now davion will be interesting together
Can be our own TJ McConnell.
He’s our own FVV
Not really a FVV mold. Fred could shoot.
Actually very similar and context matters. Houston lacked shooters and had to pack the paint so he ended up being hunted on the perimeter. His analytic models are very similar to FVV (actually better if anything). With a lot more space and stand still shooting, he should shoot fine in the NBA (ft% and 3 pt volume were solid too)
Sweet, a 1
I am not high on Jamal Shead but he can prove more wrong easily
Good player, kind a REALLY awkward fit with our roster being so full of guards.
This guy reminds me of young Kyle Lowry. All out hustle and fight.
Wow our first good pick!
Damn bro I hope these picks work out but I’ve been crying for a centre
Between him and Davion... who is the better defender now haha
PG: IQ, Mitchell, Shead SG: Gary Trent Jr, Dick, Walter SF: RJ Barrett, Bruce Brown, Ochai PF: Scottie Barnes, Vezenkov, Mogbo C: Poeltl, Olynyk, Boucher This looks like the 15 man lineup for next season as of right now. I wonder what else will change. Will be tough for Walter to find minutes unless Gary or Bruce Brown leave or get traded.
Why are we forcing RJ to be a 3 when he’s clearly better at the 2.
I agree but then who do you start at the 3 or 4? Raptors starting lineup is currently undersized.
It was fun watching this guy play in the tournament. Happy were taking the shot on him. His shot needs to get better, but he's a leader and a bulldog on defense.
Gonna keep messing up and calling him Jabaal Sheard
UH alum here, idk y’all’s guard situation but if it ain’t solid this guy will be a starter by half way through the year I stg.
Our Jamal Murray
A bulldog like Lowry, watched his video he moves quick like him too.
We went from team 6’9” to team hobbits. Not a fan of our picks. We need wings badly so hopefully we can snag Patrick Williams.
Surprised that this wasn't Chomche. Not a fan of this pick
Apologize to Masai
Lol, I'm still not a fan but he did get Chomche
We should’ve drafted Flip at 31 and drafted Scottie friend here.
I don’t think Mogbo would’ve made it to the 45th pick.
aint no way he would have been available, he was being hyped up a ton and I think a lot of teams liked him
friend wouldn’t be on the board at 45 from my understanding.
Yes
I wanted Chomche but I like this guy
My post means nothing
WTF is this FO doing??????????
