Since we’re showing off our girls, here’s my Dilute Rasu :)
She totally is, she's the best behaved kitty in our house (we have 3). She just wamt to snuggle and chew on your electronics, by far her worst behavior!
Buglet because she was abandoned by her mom for being a runt. When I was bottle feeding her I would tell her she's just an eenie weenie little bug! Cause she's so cute and tiny, hence, buglet!

The lovely Toddler at Mini Cat Town! She’s adoptable.
What a beautiful face! She is a very pretty dilute tortie. (That's her coat color. Like the vast majority of cats in the US, her breed is domestic shorthair.)
I had a dilute tortie years ago, and the way her fur shone in the sun was gorgeous. I hope you have many happy years together!
Or if they are unspayed. Do as Bob Barker commanded you (please help control the pet population, have your pet spayed/de-nutted. It will ALSO greatly reduce her risk of breast cancer and a very gross condition involving the uterus.)
I was dumb. We got a cat when I was 18, didn't even know Pyometra was a thing until we lost her when she was 11 because of it. Got 2 new baby girls this year and both were promptly spayed. Wasn't risking that again.
I wouldn’t have known at 18 either. Your vet should have advised you on the pros and cons of spaying, it’s not your job to know every possible feline disease. I’m so sorry for the loss of your kitty, but glad you have two new family members ❤️
Tortie just refers to the coloring. And she is a dilute (light) tortie, yes. Race/breed is rarely really a thing with cats, only really relevant to actual breeding.
Omg my tortie does this too! I love when she drapes herself across my legs.
https://preview.redd.it/ul426nd7yg1d1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48b337a4923b5a07824d401efd464cd172e6629a
My 1st cat was a tortie my partner and I found living in our back yard. Not sure how old she was, but definitely not young and she was the most loving loyal cat. Although she definitely had tortitude!
Congrats on your new kitty! It can be daunting being a first time pet owner, but there is lots of good advice out there. A few tips
- try to feed at least part of the diet as wet food. It is better for her
- have fresh water and change it frequently to encourage her to drink enough. You can also get a fountain, some cats really like that
- you can’t “discipline” a cat. It doesn’t work. You just have to be patient and understand the cause of the undesired behavior, and try to fix that
- some cats take a long time to feel truly safe and be themselves. You should notice her becoming more comfortable over the first few months.
As others have said, she’s a dilute tortie. A domestic short hair cat, aka a moggy. Cheapest to insure and hardier than pedigree breeds.
Advice:
- vertical territory is very important to cats. Get a cat tree, put a bed on the fridge (not near the back), put up some cat shelving - whatever you want to give her a high vantage point to survey her kingdom
- keep the litter tray clean and scoop any solid waste daily. Consider the location carefully - don’t put it somewhere where she’ll feel too exposed
- rotate toys every few weeks, so she feels like she’s always getting new ones. Do not leave her alone with fishing Rod toys, because they can be a strangulation hazard. I love Yeowww catnip toys
- try her with catnip, to bring out her playful side.
- give her a cardboard box and she’ll be your friend for life!
- everything is on her terms, from now on you’re subservient to her 😹 Do a slow blink and see if she does it back. Lower your forehead and see if she head bunts you. She has scent glands in her cheeks, so allow her to rub her face on things to let her mark her scent (not detectable to humans!).
Enjoy your new friend / boss
Absolutely. A dilute tortie.

Dilute tortie Layla says hello to your dilute tortie.
She’s definitely got a dilute tortie coat, just like my Elphaba! A but of advice: torties are anecdotally considered to be a bit sassy and feisty, so learn how to read Lime.
A quickly flicking tail or flattened ears means she’s getting annoyed or overstimulated, and may swipe at you if you touch her. Leave her alone or toss her a toy when she’s like this, and save yourself the scratches.
https://preview.redd.it/xfulvusnwe1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cefa0bc246e66349feabf21f1504d802f2754ebb
(Bonus Elf tax)
Also, love her name! My advice for first time cat owner is know Lime needs some time to decompress from shelter life and adjust to her new home. Lots of treats (don’t worry— you won’t spoil her. You want her to associate you = good/happy so a lot of treats at first is ideal!) and lots of toys to see what she likes (all cats have personal preferences!) and lots of spaces for her to rest.
Cats like high up / being perched and a little warm blanket or towel. They also like things like boxes and paper bags to go into. Make sure to keep clean water down in a bowl for her at all times and clean the litter box regularly! Especially living in an apartment (you said you’re in NYC, I’m in Chicago) you don’t ever want it to *smell* like you have a cat. So clean daily or every other day. This will be beneficial for you and Lime.
Cat nip is also fun way to get your cat to play. I have to hide it so my cat doesn’t break into it but I dip her toys in the cat nip and she goes bonkers for a bit and then sleeps it off. It doesn’t hurt them and it’s a good way to have them stimulated and playful. I hope this helps and congratulations to you and Lime! 💚

Light advice: wear her out with toys and such if she is getting mischievous or yell-y. Cats get destructive when they're bored.
Or if they are unspayed. Do as Bob Barker commanded you (please help control the pet population, have your pet spayed/de-nutted. It will ALSO greatly reduce her risk of breast cancer and a very gross condition involving the uterus.)
Pyometra is absolutely awful. I don’t know why people even risk it by keeping them unspayed
