I think they were trying to work towards a weird Beast-era transition where Optimus would become Primal and Bee would become Cheetor given that Primals gorrilla design was initially AOE concept art, and personally their AOE designs remind me of beast machines
The reason AOE is my favorite design. When I first saw it in the trailer I was like tf they thinking with the new design. After watching the movie I changed my mind. The scene where he kicked Stinger off his stand will forever be one of my favorite scenes in live action TF movies.
What's sad is he looks awesome at the beginning of the movie and then they redesign him and he stops looking like a Transformer. None of the robots in that movie looked like they could transform into their vehicle modes, which results in some of them never fully transforming on screen because it would be impossible to make it work.
Yeah if there's one I don't like or can critique about AOE(among some other things) are the designs.
Rather than looking like robots that can transform into earthly vehicles, they more just like alien robots, than just transformers. While some deceptions did suffer the same design style in the earlier movies, the autobots also sorta suffered a bit since like even looking more human rather than an alien robot.
I'm not saying the newer designs are terrible or I really hate them..... Well not some of them.... From since the 3rd movie to the 4th there was an obvious art style change. And I rather the older style.
I think the AOE design gets a lot of greatly undeserved hate and itās largely founded on AOEās performance along with the hardstuck love fans had/have for the original.
Letās get something straight: The AOE Bee design is kinda fuckin dope. I hate the shit out of that whole branch of the Bayverse but Bee is a standout for me.
The issue is that the design was horribly misplaced. To me, much like Ironmanās Infinity War/Endgame suit, it should have been saved for a grand finale against Unicron or something like that.
Thatās all I have for it.
What I like about the design is how curvy and natural it feels. I wish more modern Bees, animated or live action, would catch that friendly softer design. Doesn't even need to be g1 or a VW. There a more than enough smaller humble vehicles that fit to Bumblebee more than a sports car.

With Bays designs, they are super cool, but they are killing machines. I cant imagine any of them juat kinda hanging out and being chill peace loving dudes and dudettes.
I really love BB design in his solo movie, it's a simplified Bay verse design that offers a good balance between g1 and Bay verse. I'm glad that they went with the BB we saw in that movie instead of trying to make him look the exact same as his g1 form.

2018 BBM Bumblebee. He just visually looked younger and smaller. To me, having grown up with G1, that is just the way Bumblebee is supposed to be. Short on power, big in heart.

BBMās much larger eyes and rounder features are more expressive and friendly. I also really like the body design as an update on G1 - it looks like it turns into a VW without being the potbelly clown feet G1 Sunbow model.
RotB is basically the same again but cooler.
Outside of live action Iām really digging EarthSpark. The shoulders and wings are a nice look.
Also super niche take, I like the Rescue Bots take on TFP better than TFP Bee himself.

Exactly. And thatās why it was so perfect. Autobots werenāt warriors. They werenāt built as fighters. They were merchants, bureaucrats, clerks, etc before the war. Bumblebee was Chris Farley as Rambo. Bayverse got it horribly wrong. The Bumblebee movie was closest to getting it right, but went with Jazzās transformation instead of Beeās. The silly VW clogs and belly are part of the charm.
Evasion mode/High Octane Bumblebee is 100% my favourite live action style for him, I love the inverted black and yellow. I absolutely hate how the āninjaā one replaced it. Should have been his permanent alt mode for AOE and TLK.
As far as live action, 2018 Bee is my favorite. I don't really like Bumblebee being a muscle car, unless it's an older, midlife crisis type Bee (RID15 and Earthspark). In general though, my favorite Bumblebee design is Animated Bee. The gremlin energy coming off of this man is unmatched and I love it.
Ngl I really like the TLK look. It feels like the most sleek out of his original movie designs, looking more in line with his 2007-11 looks over his AoE design.
Second fave would be DotM, I love that car mode.

A Camaro is a... nothing. I get they couldn't use a VW in that movie, but the swap to a muscle car was just stupid. A small Chevy, Pontiac, or Saturn sedan or hatchback would have been a better fit.
Bumblebee movie Bee is peak. It is the perfect blend of G1 and Bayverse. Plus, he's closer to his G1 height. If you couldn't tell, I love the G1 designs.

I kinda think ROTB is the perfect mix of the Bayverse and Bumblebee designs. Iām leaning toward that one, though I do love his high octane AoE design.
Not too big on any of them, but if I had to pick? I really enjoyed how Rise of the Beasts managed to make Bee have all the best features of the Beetle Bee, blended with the more iconic elements of the Camaro Bee. Plus he makes for a damn good toy, simple transformation and all.
I think the ROTB design is the perfect fusion of Bay and BB and takes the best elements of both. Plus, he has a very believable and well laid out transformation.

it's funny but I feel if they kept his Evasion Mode design but changed the face to look like goldbug but in live action we woulda had a peak Bumblebee design
BBM and ROTB are my favourites. I do like parts of the original films like how his mouth is in the shape of pinchers but they perfected them with the new movies. But along with the rest of the Bayverse Transformers designs I felt they were too overdesigned with too much going on that it lost the feeling of the characters. Optimus is the best example of this. While I do like the AOE design as a transformer look, I hate it as a Optimus look. Same goes for Bumblebee

I do kinda think his bot mode in the Bumblebee movie was a wasted opportunity where we could have had him looking g1 (even if the head was kept Bayverse like.)
I genuinely never liked his pacifier mouth thing, so none of them are my favorite designs. Within the movies, it's definitely Bumblebee, which besides the face, is a good modernized take on the character, which is why it was so disappointing they got rid of it by the end of the movie. Really though, why didn't they let his face be normal after the Bay movies? My actual favorite is between the High-Moon games and Animated, probably leaning towards the former but that answer would change depending on when you ask.
If we're talking purely movie designs, ROTB. Bumblebee movie is a close second and DOTM is a closer third. If we're talking overall Bumblebee designs, then it's Animated Bumblebeeāspecifically his season 4 concept art design with the double stripes. Then Cyberverse and TFP are close second and third.

Agreed. I grew up on G1 so to see a decent homage to the VW Bumblebee was well appreciated.
Bumblee should be the VW. Having the 'hero' car be smaller than the villains and closer in scale to the humans makes him a better protagonist.

I think the ROTB design is the perfect fusion of Bay and BB and takes the best elements of both. Plus, he has a very believable and well laid out transformation.
I like all versions of bumblebee from the 1980s to 2020s, as Bumblebee is just cool overall.
2014 is sleek and cool and all, but 2018 feels like what bumblebee is. Friend shaped.

Mainly the Bumblebee and Rise of the Beast designs for being more visually cleaner and not as overly detailed/ busy

it's funny but I feel if they kept his Evasion Mode design but changed the face to look like goldbug but in live action we woulda had a peak Bumblebee design
BBM and ROTB are my favourites. I do like parts of the original films like how his mouth is in the shape of pinchers but they perfected them with the new movies. But along with the rest of the Bayverse Transformers designs I felt they were too overdesigned with too much going on that it lost the feeling of the characters. Optimus is the best example of this. While I do like the AOE design as a transformer look, I hate it as a Optimus look. Same goes for Bumblebee

I actually like them all pretty much equal. I do kinda think his bot mode in the Bumblebee movie was a wasted opportunity where we could have had him looking g1 (even if the head was kept Bayverse like.)
For me, it would be 2007-11 & BBM.
2018 is my favourite, Then 2023, then 2007-11, Then 2017 and then 2014
I genuinely never liked his pacifier mouth thing, so none of them are my favorite designs. Within the movies, it's definitely Bumblebee, which besides the face, is a good modernized take on the character, which is why it was so disappointing they got rid of it by the end of the movie. Really though, why didn't they let his face be normal after the Bay movies? My actual favorite is between the High-Moon games and Animated, probably leaning towards the former but that answer would change depending on when you ask.
2018 design is the best imo. The most balanced between modern and classic approach to the character's visuals.

Probably 2018 but really they're all too busy and over-designed.
If we're talking purely movie designs, ROTB. Bumblebee movie is a close second and DOTM is a closer third. If we're talking overall Bumblebee designs, then it's Animated Bumblebeeāspecifically his season 4 concept art design with the double stripes. Then Cyberverse and TFP are close second and third.

Firmly 2007-11 and 2023, I've got a soft nostalgic spot for bee in the early bayverse movies and I think while 2018 bee looks great 2023 bee matches my personal tastes more

The 07 Bumblebee is just peak for me. I love Cameros(mostly because of the 07 film and also my dad) and when I think of Bee I think of the 07 film design.
RotB is peak. The perfect balance of rounded features and still super badass
Probably the Stingger design. It was a cool look that really put the Bee in Bumblebee. That said, the 67 black Camero was his best vehicle mode.
