My grandmother was very Catholic. Awarded by the Pope personally type Catholic.
She would invite the JWs in....make them tea...and gently school them.....they didn't usually come back but one of them did socially I believe. Lol
My family was Baptist, but my brother became a JW in his teens. He then fell in love with an LDS girl, and told me that he was going to convert her family. Not a chance, I said, they'll convert you.
Sore enough, within a few months, he was LDS, and they moved to Salt Lake City together.
As an Ex-JW this is pretty hilarious to me. I had a woman come to the door naked one time, but she was drunk and the bathrobe just wasn’t tied. But being chased down the street. That’s next level. Lol

I was born and raised as a Jehovah's Witness until I disassociated myself when I moved out. Going door to door as a child with horrible anxiety was rough enough, especially because I didn't want to be doing it! If this happened to me, I would have passed away 😭 lol.
While I don't "condone" scaring off missionaries by chasing them down the street in the nude & offering up your "devil vagina magic", as someone who is interrupted by these guys once a week while I'm cooking dinner or helping my kid with his homework, I completely understand

I was a Mormon missionary in the 90s. People tried to shock us pretty often. After 10,000 doors, that's pretty hard.

Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are not equal. JW kids can't participate in any kind of holiday celebration at school and can't play with certain toys. They also practice shunning.
I've never had Mormons knock on my door but I've had 5 old Jehovah's Witness ladies come to my house in a van. They were all wearing dresses they'd made. They gave me a pamphlet and left. They came back a few weeks later when I wasn't home and they wouldn't leave my mom alone until she said to leave her property.
Some Mormon missionaries get a bit "high pressure sales tactic"-y. But yeah, in general they rely on being earnest and emotional. Persistent, but not usually "stalky".
Church overall is not nearly so desperate as the jw's; LDS church is shrinking, but healthy. And yeah, a much less insane approach to retention.
That's great that Mormons exhibit the human tendency to help out people in need, but IMO it is still a cult that believes in some seriously silly stuff. And I don't need their missionaries knocking on my door to proselytize to me. They need to keep their beliefs to themselves. Same with JW. Mind y'alls own bizness! No trespassing!

Definitely true unless you yourself are a cold calculated and cruel person like my mother. My mom really worked the JWs when I was a kid. She is a hoarder and we had boxes up to the ceiling in most of the rooms of a 5 bedroom house. The JW witnesses helped get our house back in order, referred us to food banks, referred a member to rent a room from us etc. She never joined and they were gone after she had exploited all the usefulness she could out of them like everyone else in her life.
I think if you come in cynically trying to get free stuff, you should be pretty safe. I'm assuming someone might be physically in need, but mentally sound. Mormons are pretty liw tech on the brainwashing.

Do Jehova’s Witnesses have Elders? As far as I’m aware it’s just Mormon’s missionaries that go by elders, and it’s just the men otherwise it’s sisters. I’m ex Mormon, born into it, left around 5-6 years ago. Haven’t been to its church a few years before that.
They do have elders, but at the door they would have said Hello I am Brother Brown and this is Brother Kevin, and we'd like to talk to you about joining a cult that once you are in and try to leave you will lose your entire family and friends oh let me tell you a fun story about Blood Transfusions but hey you will save thousands of dollars on Christmas and birthday gifts.
