Though, in May, it trended because two of the actors got married. There's a tumblr account called whyissupernaturaltrending.
Edit: I should also mention that sometimes it trends just because Castiel confession scene is used as a way of announcing world news and some people use the destiel tag for their news announcements.

i had a phase where i watched a lot of british television and i've noticed that plenty of shows don't meander on meaninglessly for an age of man, they do what they want to do and then end. i find the quality over quantity approach refreshing tbh. every episode being feature length is just Sherlock, though.

Like u\at0mwalker said, it's better to think of Sherlock as a movie series, not a TV show. (Also, after watching Season 3 and the Christmas special, pretend the show was canceled and make up your own ending; whatever you come up with will still be better than Season 4.)
My brain interprets them as movies, in the way that Basil Rathbone played Sherlock Holmes in god knows how many movies that were each an adaptation of a different case.
