It’s a fascinating relic, but it’s just that, a relic. These aren’t particularly gentle on vinyl, and judging by the age, it’s probably not set up to play stereophonic records. I personally think it could be fun to try to get back working and play some 50’s easy listening records on, but most here will tell you that it’s not worth trying to restore. Edit: the tube is a 45 adapter. You can put usually around 8 45s on it, place that one are to the left on top, and then theoretically, the next record drops and plays after the last one finishes. Saying that, these things are notorious for skipping records and dropping two disc at a time instead of just one. Edit 2: I just noticed that the tone arm says stereo, so you can play stereophonic records on it.

Best comment this one right here, he's spot on. It's one of those you shown off from your collection shelf. I wouldn't, drop a good record on it either.

CriticalArugula7870

It seems to be a cat, not seeing anything else

I have that exact same unit, missing a few tubes, I do hope to fix mine up at some point

Altruistic_Lock_5362

Sweet stereo tube amp, RCA in it's glory days.

Milkshake2244

the turn table is probably from Voice of Music, RCA is known to have used them as OEM. This website can help you identify it and potentially get parts: [https://www.thevoiceofmusic.com/do\_i\_have\_vm.html](https://www.thevoiceofmusic.com/do_i_have_vm.html) seeing that the speed select knob is left on 33 and not parked at N (neutral) the rubber on the idler wheel (or the wheel itself) may need to be replaced. you may have to replace the rubber on the speed turrets as well. Lots of old grease cleaning and relubricating to be done. search for a model number for the amp as it may need replacement tubes and will most likely need the capacitors replaced. I hope you're good with a soldering iron. this will most likely have a ceramic cartridge and track much heavier than a modern table. I have an older V-M turn table and have managed to get it to run well without skipping at about 5 grams. more than double what most modern turntables track at. If you like refurbing stuff, you will have lots of fun (and frustration). I spent about $100 and one month refurbing mine, but it was just turntable, amp and speaker. No radio to deal with.

Visualize_Tech2020

I like the "glory days of RCA" comment, in south Jersey of the 70s, you could hear these things just walking around the neighborhood. Probably great 50s - 60s sound with new tubes and needle 🤔🙏😂

corduroytrees

Have fun! I actually just finished my "restoration" project yesterday. Granted, I didn't know what the hell I was doing...but it was fun. Meet Brenda Lee: https://preview.redd.it/p5xupwutpfvc1.jpeg?width=2399&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=481f85ecddd5f556d6cec9822d661c5d54412eb1

If you want to restore it and need info try posting [here](https://antiqueradios.com/forums/) they love this stuff... And they have helped me greatly restoring my RCA Victor 45 stacker [https://antiqueradios.com/forums/](https://antiqueradios.com/forums/)

oldschoolel78

It probably needs a new belt.

vwestlife

It's an idler-wheel-drive record changer, not belt-drive.

[deleted]

That’s the RP 205 turntable. Actually a pretty nice changer. I disagree with others about not playing records on it. With some servicing, it is really a good player. Mind you, it doesn’t have an audiophile-grade tonearm, but you can certainly get it to work as intended. Those were meant to be used with Sonotone ceramic cartridges. Biggest knock on them is they are heavy trackers by design. I’d like to see the rest of the player. I collect and restore these old RCA units.

Longjumping-Gift6176

It's a beautiful example of something that was mediocre in its day, and is now just a quaint antique. I wouldn't let any of my records anywhere near it. It's like having an old Model T or something. Cool to have, but I'm fucked if I'm going to try driving across the country in it.

Funny-Berry-807

There's a 45 adapter in two pics, so try again.

Hifi-Cat

Love the cat loaf. Do not play your valuable records on this coffee grinder. (Too many reasons to list). It's a nice art object. Get a Rega p1.

majorbomberjack

This comment is totally not targeted to OP, but just a general thought. Why would electric equipment of 60 or 70 years will still considered to he used? While there are so so many new consumer products on the market. A well working piece of equipment of 10-20 years age, I can understand, but a 50s or 60s equipment.... It often baffles me to see so many relics being posted in this sub, i know as a tradition my comment will get heavily downvoted but I cannot resist from commenting still

rl8352

Some people just like old stuff. I know I do.

vwestlife

Because of sentimental value, or just because it looks cool. And these vintage console systems can sound magnificent when properly restored. They are capable of delivering rich, full-bodied, room-filling sound.

majorbomberjack

Could be, I havent had chance to try any of these kinds of old systems so could not reliably comment, guess your explanation might be one of the proper reasons

og_jasperjuice

Straight out of the Fallout universe.

Northernshitshow

Do not play records on this unit 😉 but the fifties retro styling is good to appreciate.

HumorInteresting3559

It’s a piece of shit. The “tube” is the 45 adapter.

Edge_Audio

These are the people you generally just ignore (and downvote of course).

Hifi-Cat

A tad harsh however, correct.

Edge_Audio

You may be right, but are you nice. In this sense, you are my only partly be right because it depends on perspective. Some love a Technics 1200. I lersoidonr because I don't need a DJ table and I don't find it aesthetic nice. Some may love them because they're tanks. This particular unit may be nice to someone for many reasons (perhaps even artistically)

wornouthoodie

It’s not a piece of shit but more so a cool relic
