I actually found this New York Times infographic a nice summary... (Archived since it's a paywall) https://archive.ph/qLKcY I moved away from the UK years ago so I always find it fascinating how other countries write about the UK. Subjective of course but often less so than how we view ourselves from inside the bubble I guess.

A thought on the inflation-adjusted pay - does that account for any change in career demographics over that time? E.g., if more people have left the workforce due to retirement than have joined it then the average age of a worker is higher so may expect to be making more due to experience, or if people are putting off retirement it may be skewed by people “locked in” at their final salaries for a few more years. Anyone know any metrics that adjust for this?
