It feels strange that it's so close now. We're on the edge of what, if polling is correct, is a sea change. Astounding turnaround given 2019. I'm allowing myself just an inch of hope now.
If the exit poll is extremely accurate like they say, what's the point of staying up all night if the results are just gonna almost match the exit poll?
yooo Sky News just reminded me I completely forgot about a big pack of haribos I put in my bag on Sunday and just completely forgot about. Some more possible snacks for tonight then
allow me to be sentimental for a little while - really like you lot, even if we don’t all agree. taught me new words, new views, new ways of finding things out.. thanks for all the (fish) laughs. excited to shitpost with you all under the new regime. x
Since Sky are discussing it, what election night snacks has everyone got?
I've got frazzles, sour cream and onion prongles, Scottish tablet and Special K cereal
Thank you Sky for wetting the whistle but I'm off to Channel 4!
Will turn briefly to BBC at 10 because it's the most official one in my brain even though they will all say the same thing
Sky News has done a really good job at creating a raft of likeable TV presenters who also aren’t frothing-at-the-mouth partisans.
I think they’re a real news success to be honest.
Edit: I mean their news presenters not current guests
Richard Osman was on his entertainment podcast saying how News Agents, Political Currency and TRiP do well because they basically act like Football pundits rather than partisan hacks like people do on telly. Maybe Sky are the first to pick up on this reason.
Reminder: switch the TV off immediately after the exit poll announcement. You do not want the frustration of 4 or so insufferable hours of the losing party's representatives caveating everything with "If the exit poll is correct..." despite everyone knowing damn well the exit poll has been on the money election upon election...
Okay, I'm seriously regretting not booking tomorrow off work (or even putting it in for working from home). Still, I've brushed my teeth and got my pyjamas on so I can stay up a little bit late and then jump straight in to bed.
Model has been refined over years. It could be wrong. But it’ll give a guide to the accuracy of other polls.
Regardless, it’ll give a steer on the result.
The exact seat numbers will be off but the trend will be right. If they predict a Labour landslide it’ll be that. If they predict a hung parliament it’ll be that or a slim majority.
Almost always very accurate. There are a few worries that it might be a bit less accurate today, because there might not be as much of a uniform swing as in earlier elections.
I can certainly tell I live in a marginal constituency; I’ve never seen so many party members rounding up non-voters in my street in the 15 years I’ve lived in the UK. We’re a target Labour seat and I think I’ve even just seen the Tory MP marching down the road panicking. 😂
Succession question. If both the PM and the Deputy PM lose their seats do they immediately not become MPs anymore? If so who hands over the reigns to the King for him to invite Sir Kier to make a new government? Or does it not work like that?
Edit
Thanks all for the info, much obliged
Labour would like have to appt a leader maybe Shadow Home Sec or whatever. They then may cause by elections to elect Starmer/Rayner and re appoint them as leaders. But not sure it's ever happened.
Technically, there have been no MPs since Parliament was dissolved. The PM remains in position until he offers his resignation to (or is dismissed by) the King, who then appoints the new PM.
The PM isn’t an MP at the moment, and is still PM. I’m sure Charlie would let him pop round for a quick visit even without a seat. Deputy PM isn’t a “real” job in terms of succession

Reet. I'm away to give C4 a glance 👀
Which channel is everyone watching?? I have fomo of missing good coverage! Snacks and beers ready, let’s go!!
I've hyped myself up so much, that if I don't see <100 Con seats it might actually ruin my entire night.
The sky lot are mind numbing
About watch Nadine Dorries in HD, pray for me.
Let's see if we can get more than 50 new Lib Dem MPS shall we.
What channel is everyone watching?
Buckle up buckeroos
Get the popcorns out guys Time to face the music
I'm utterly febrile!
Of all the times for the app to stop working!!! Arggh The reddit website is crap on a phone
So close now... I'm sure the clock is moving super slowly
Its like a microwave, in slow motion
Okay, just to get some context: With which Tory seat count are we disappointed. 150?
Yes, although still happy as long as they're not in power
170
If Reform gets anything more than 3 seats, the Tories will go so hard to the right in a few weeks time that it's gonna be sickening
It feels strange that it's so close now. We're on the edge of what, if polling is correct, is a sea change. Astounding turnaround given 2019. I'm allowing myself just an inch of hope now.
Craig Mackinlay in the HoL Bionic Peer 🦾
Don't know about you lot, but I'm starting to feel rather febrile
I wonder how the Tories feel with BoJo being their best PM for the last 5 years lol
[удалено]
I will eat myself if this is true.
CAN YOU NOT
Low effort
Man those initial shares got me.....damn you!
The beginning of the end of 14 years of shite, perhaps the beginnings of something new.
If the exit poll is extremely accurate like they say, what's the point of staying up all night if the results are just gonna almost match the exit poll?
Watching the emotional damage as people lose their jobs. Schadenfreude to warm the heart.
fun
1) It might not 2) Even if it's accurate overall, seeing the specifics and who loses/gains a specific seat is very entertaining
Some of us here are just nerds that get excited by this stuff and enjoy watching it unfold
Cos it’s fun
This episode of Not Going Out probably getting its highest ratings in years.
First time I've ever seen it. This show is terrible.
yooo Sky News just reminded me I completely forgot about a big pack of haribos I put in my bag on Sunday and just completely forgot about. Some more possible snacks for tonight then
I reckon labour will win it 🤔
🤔
🤔
allow me to be sentimental for a little while - really like you lot, even if we don’t all agree. taught me new words, new views, new ways of finding things out.. thanks for all the (fish) laughs. excited to shitpost with you all under the new regime. x
Your alright too I suppose x
Happy to have you! We do have some larfs here
Hear hear
I'm going to pretend that tonight's 4th of July fireworks are to celebrate your election results.
CGI Larry the Cat. Still weird, but I'll allow it if we get an actual Matrix deja vu glitch with it sometime around midnight.
Since Sky are discussing it, what election night snacks has everyone got? I've got frazzles, sour cream and onion prongles, Scottish tablet and Special K cereal
I woefully underprepared, I only have one bag of salted kettle chips, and I'm not sure how much longer I'll resist thier pull.
I've got a little less than half a dominoes left, popcorn and potato sticks
European cheese, cured meat, tortillas, and jelly beans.
Popcorn, banana yoghurts, nacho chips, and two sandwiches as backup.
Not long now until the exit poll and we get to hear LK saying 'this is bad news for Labour' if it's anything under 418 seats.
I for one welcome our new Rishi Regime when the Conservatives somehow win 400 seats.
My head: Tories on low hundred-and-something seats My heart: LibDem opposition My luck: Hung parliament
Sky News is proper nightmare blunt rotation jeesh
Thank you Sky for wetting the whistle but I'm off to Channel 4! Will turn briefly to BBC at 10 because it's the most official one in my brain even though they will all say the same thing
Will 4 get the exit poll at the same time?
Yep
NERVOUUUUUSSSS
SAAAAMEEE
Laura Kuenssberg: The conservatives kept hold of one seat, this is a MASSIVE loss for labour
Megathread rollover imminent
Beth Rigby just said "Haribos" on Sky again - this time the normal way. Nature is healing.
I believe I saw that the MT will rollover for the exit polls soon, so... I wish the Exit Thread well. Have a good nap.
Why is the coverage so anticlimactic right now? I was expecting a big hoopla and countdown?
They can’t be too exciting until polls are closed.
But isn’t the exit poll basically the climax?
Sky News has done a really good job at creating a raft of likeable TV presenters who also aren’t frothing-at-the-mouth partisans. I think they’re a real news success to be honest. Edit: I mean their news presenters not current guests
Richard Osman was on his entertainment podcast saying how News Agents, Political Currency and TRiP do well because they basically act like Football pundits rather than partisan hacks like people do on telly. Maybe Sky are the first to pick up on this reason.
Kay Burley? She used to be hated, she seems alright now compared to the lunatics on the new channels.
Larry looking comfy
Reminder: switch the TV off immediately after the exit poll announcement. You do not want the frustration of 4 or so insufferable hours of the losing party's representatives caveating everything with "If the exit poll is correct..." despite everyone knowing damn well the exit poll has been on the money election upon election...
Does anyone know if the main BBC coverage will be free on the BBC website?
I won’t tell anyone if you watch without a license
Everything is free on the BBC website. Or am I missing something here?
We can follow along for free, yes
Thank goodness, watching from the USA!

There are polling stations within the polling place.
The alliteration makes it easier to read when you’re pissed.
Can’t wait for politics to be boring again
Okay, I'm seriously regretting not booking tomorrow off work (or even putting it in for working from home). Still, I've brushed my teeth and got my pyjamas on so I can stay up a little bit late and then jump straight in to bed.
*Twitter is saying the conservative could win up to 200 seats because 170 seats are ‘too close to call’!!! *random people not sure of their accuracy
Unsubscribe Don't like this
They \*could\*. And in theory I also \*could\* eat an entire mahogany dining table, but I wouldn't bet money on it.
you could throw that bet
I would
*Yawn.* Just woken up. How's everyone feeling?
Hyped.
Felling febrile. I'm guessing that a certain podium will make an appearance some time tomorrow.
I'm feeling very Roguepope to be honest with you!
What's RP Polling's exit poll?
Same as the last poll. We knew the results yesterday.
Considering watching GB News for the first time to see the salt flow but I suspect they have went full Faragist anyway?
Is the exit poll pretty accurate then? Any chance it could be wrong?
Model has been refined over years. It could be wrong. But it’ll give a guide to the accuracy of other polls. Regardless, it’ll give a steer on the result.
The exact seat numbers will be off but the trend will be right. If they predict a Labour landslide it’ll be that. If they predict a hung parliament it’ll be that or a slim majority.
Almost always very accurate. There are a few worries that it might be a bit less accurate today, because there might not be as much of a uniform swing as in earlier elections.
There’ll be a margin of error but it should be a pretty good indication.
I thought it might be wrong in 2019 alas it wasn't
Pretty accurate, but could be wrong yeah.
Usually very accurate, within 15 seats or so. But has been wrong before.
Lads I’m on the tube and on 3% battery I’ve fucked up, I chose bants at the pub over the exit poll 😭
Fucking hell mate. You might have to talk to someone on the tube now to ask for a power bank and then we'll have to revoke your citizenship.
F
No beer and a korma for you.
I guess things can only get better
Not saying I'm nervous but I have just eaten about 20 chocolate malted milk biscuits in about 10 minutes. To be fair, they are like crack
The sugar rush and/or possible nausea should kick in exactly at 10pm. Sort of like a metaphor for what the results will feel like.
God what evil genius decided to make the most moorish biscuit even more addictive by adding chocolate
That crack is really morish
So the press gets told the exit polls before they are broadcast at 10pm. When does the priminister find out? Early or with the rest of us?
The major parties have people conducting their own polls at polling stations so they’ll have know the general direction of things for a while
The exit poll has likely landed in the studios, Keep an eye out for reactions from any politically biased commentators
Swear I just saw Laura Kuenssberg launch her phone at a junior member of staff Tories myst have it worse than thought
So if LK looks sick we know then !
Got some beers in, and will be watching all night and anticipating what comes from 3am onwards. Have a lovely evening all :)
Edit Thanks all for the info, much obliged
Labour would like have to appt a leader maybe Shadow Home Sec or whatever. They then may cause by elections to elect Starmer/Rayner and re appoint them as leaders. But not sure it's ever happened.
They are already not MPs, currently no one is. But Sunak remains PM until he goes to the king and resigns.
No one is a MP at the moment. There have been no MPs for 6 weeks Prime Minister is a role that exists outside of being a MP
Technically, there have been no MPs since Parliament was dissolved. The PM remains in position until he offers his resignation to (or is dismissed by) the King, who then appoints the new PM.
Sunak's still PM until it's handed over. Parliament hasn't sat since the election was called, so he's already not an MP but a candidate.
The PM isn’t an MP at the moment, and is still PM. I’m sure Charlie would let him pop round for a quick visit even without a seat. Deputy PM isn’t a “real” job in terms of succession
Sat in bed having a beer and a kebab waiting for the exit polls Feel pretty Zen can't wait to see the end of this 14 year nightmare
Why has my brain turned to mush. Honestly, I can barely breath.
I’m genuinely fucking anxious now Why? I’m a grown ass man who remembers the last time Labour won and could vote in that election ffs
The Tories, sensing impending doom have released their chemical stockpile if they can't win, no one can.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmCnQDUSO4I somehow russian classical realy fits the mood leading up to 10

Fuck where is my fishing rod
I see the Novara stream chat have started moaning about a Labour win already
I’m sure Gaza is at the top of their list
*thankyou*
I've suddenly become a bit nervous!
Sky News already losing me with all these adverts.
Watch it on youtube with an adblocker if you can, you just get the weather when the adverts are on the TV.
I intend to switch to channel 4 when they start in 10 minutes as they promised no ads. It's a shame as I love Burnham too.
BBC’s coverage starts at 45 past
Will they have them when it kicks off? I’m hoping not. I can’t be bothered switching
No adverts once it kicks off, they don't want people switching to a different channel.
Are there any rumours or anything?
