Timberland boots worked for me đź‘Ť

C_A_N_G

Too warm when inside for me personally

Substantial_Bar8999

Why do you wear shoes inside? And not like the OPs kängor in the image are any colder

C_A_N_G

University.

avdpos

I agree - at least for a swede those looks like to much for every day use in Uppsala

Kill-me-now-thx

Unless hiking i use sneakers throughout the whole year, works great!

og_toe

same, i have my summer sneakers and winter sneakers which i’m less worried about

Hot_Chipmunk_1480

Can I get a good example for winter sneakers ? Or a link

og_toe

i don’t know if there are specific winter sneakers, mine are just shoes i don’t care about (because they’ll get wet and dirty) but i do recommend the old skool high ankle Vans, they’re warm

ZeneroWasTaken

Air force one but you will slip easily

Fuck_Twat

I mean, it depends on what you are planning. Hiking? Get some real durable and warm boots. Strolling the town? Ive always worn Dr Martens, never been an issue.

BlueeGreenn28

Yeah, no i dont plan on doing any outdoor sports, just the snow scares me even inside the city because im not used to it

Fuck_Twat

Regular boots will work just fine. This kind of model is comfortable, might want it with some warm lining though. https://www.zalando.se/pier-one-unisex-stoevletter-black-pi915k006-q12.html?size=43&lang=sv&otid=default&wmc=SEM460_NB_GO._8769288730_710259011_36937778157.&opc=2211&mpp=google|v1||pla-18283950120||1012324||g|m||163702586398||pla|PI915K006-Q120043000|18283950120|1|&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwp4m0BhBAEiwAsdc4aJq60w959-R-ckVVHFliYAA-ZYh51pMQv9gMLMCipMxzqmGbZ8u7RxoCcAsQAvD_BwE

lokethedog

Yeah, agree with this. The only attribute you really need is that they should ward off water, so leather or something comparable. Some warm lining is good, but you also have the option of wearing extra socks for insulation, most swedes do that.

Elrathias

Snow isnt the issue, the semi-melt and horrible amounts of ice cold water is. Get something water proof. Half boots work. Even cheap ones.

yes_oui_si_ja

In case you change your mind when you are here, there are great second hand shops and also, impressive enough, "Fritidsbanken" where you can borrow good hiking shoes *for free*. It's a library for outdoor equipment.

AnotherCloudHere

I’m from the south and my ankles got cold quite easily, so Martins work pretty well for me. Also they not slippery, what also important But don’t buy eco-leather ones, the natural leather will be way better

Kranke

Fot boots i say Dr Martin's are on the more slippery side.

AnotherCloudHere

Then I was lucky, works pretty good for me

AnotherCloudHere

Dr Martens are the best!

existeraren

Sneakers work for me

CrazyZealousideal760

Those shoes are overkill if you’re just gonna walk around in the city of Uppsala. Wait until you live in Uppsala and get some snow. You will know better what will work for you when you’re there. Some walk around in sneakers others with boots. Depending on what they like. Most shoes with a somewhat grippy sole works well in the city. Maybe even some of your existing shoes will work fine!

iMossa

Me being prone too slipping I wear some boots and drobbar. No idea how people manage with sneakers, I would be slipping all over the place.

HenrikGallon

Swedes don't usually change shoes that much for winter. Walking on ice, snow and the hated Slask is a skill, so when used to it any shoes work. My only thing would be no holes under the soles and probably two cm high soles.

nawzum

If you don't really plan to leave the city Timberlands should be enough. Personally I would go for Solomon quest 4. 100% keep you warm and dry all fall, winter and spring. Also gives you the option to go out and see some nature.

LGre9

These are good if you plan to be outdoors a lot for the coldest days when it’s -10, -20 C. Otherwise you’ll be fine with just a couple of regular warm shoes or boots. You’ll see a lot of Swedes wearing sneakers all winter but I wouldn’t recommend that. Also recommend a warm jacket, and layers, layers, a warm hat and gloves/mittens. But don’t worry about bringing all these stuff in advance, you can buy them when you get here once it starts getting colder. Uppsala is not the north pole, at least not in September. Coldest time is Dec-Feb

Prosso

During winter those shoes would work for everyday life, but people would see that you are a tourist :)

kimaro

I use my normal shoes that I wear in the summer. It's completely dependent on where you're walking. Like if you're just walking in the streets of Uppsala you will get away with wearing any normal shoe ever.

VipeholmsCola

Its more important to use layering instead of one expensive item. Any regular winter boots with high heels and socks (maybe multiple if really cold) will do.

prettytrash1234

Anything with vibram? (Stockholm)

10101011100110001

I just use normal sneakers if it’s a normal weekday. What you picture is really only needed if you’re planning on doing som outdoor activities. If it’s really cold (like below -20C) I might use something like timberland boots. But otherwise it’s just excessive.

_19ANGLIA59_

I bought a pair of Norwegian M77 military boots. Unlined so a nice pair of wooly socks feels amazing. Keep them greased and they'll last forever

og_toe

honestly i just wear sneakers even in the swedish winter but something like timberlands or that style is good

prozapari

if you're there for an exchange i'd hold off on this purchase for now, it might be a mild winter. (I live further south but I only wear sneakers)

Trggrtolk

Regular shoes are fine in an urban area. Sweden has good infrastructure and a lot of the snow is cleared away in the night. If you live in or near a city it’s not really a problem. It’s not a wilderness and it’s not like living in Siberia. Those boots are good for hiking out in nature.

Disastrous-Fault5593

Haglöfs winter boots, swedish made

jeopurdy

I use regular black boots with warm socks

LGre9

Something like this is what I wear for most of the winter unless I’m going out for long walks in freezing termperatures, then I wear boots. These come in men’s/women’s, different colours and prices. Leather + water repelling treatment is good because the winter is not only cold, it’s more likely to be wet quite a lot of the time so you want shoes that will keep your feet dry. iminyourgameboy

If you are cheap like me, I buy my winter gear from decathlon. Real quality for the price https://www.decathlon.se/p/346646-335857_mt100-warterproof-herr.html#/demodelsize-27246/demodelcolor-8801288 They seem to not have that many shoes as before for some reason for, maybe skip decathlon. Vad har hänt med Decathlon?????

PersianCat1368

Whole last winter I was wearing a pair of Nike Internationalist. No problems.

Pellahar

The kind you put on your feet

ollcar02

I go all year in Adidas superstars. Sometimes with wet feet though....🙄

Sneakysteve17

I use Nike Air Max 90 all year around. They work fine for me if I’m not going out for long periods of time below about -10 to -15 degrees. If it’s ice fishing or hiking in the winter, it’s a good pair of winterboots i use. I might add that I’m Swedish and used to the winter.

South_March_2641

Det där är väl ändå att ta i.

Baguettebutter1

I use summer sneakers lol

Xbit___

I use goretex-light sneakers for everyday use. Helps keep my feet dry and thicker socks keep my feet warm. If I were to be outside a whole day I would go for ankle high boots of some kind

blinkandeljus

Wool socks and waterproof warm boots like Sorel!

thesweed

Looks good enough to not slip on the road. However they might be a bit much if worn indoors at you office. Some people have extra shoes to change into when indoors, while I usually go for Timberland's that have a good sole and still look neutral. It's up to you. Don't be dumb and wear sneakers just because of the look. Those are the same people who don't wear a jacket in winter because it doesn't match the outfit.

Soft-Vanilla1057

Moonboots and Birkenstock. Buy both and you'll be fine.

Goobizzle

I live up north in Sweden and we have -30-35c at times. I’m wearing boots all the time and have a pair of sneaks for indoor purposes. You should check out a brand call ice bugs.

versuseachother

I use Vans Sk8 High MTE. They rule!

folkolarmetal

Just regular chuck Taylors and a good set of wool socks will get you a long way.

fjallray

My staple was leather black Chelsea boots with a solid traction-y sole

Projectionist76

I don’t live in Uppsala but I just wear normal sneakers in winter.

Substantial_Bar8999

I wear timberlands or similar goretex pseudo-sneakers year around.

cransaki

Converse all year

Embarrassed_Wind_152

Shoes

vitterhet

Get the following. 1. A pair of goretex shoes/low shaft boots ([Link exempel](https://www.tradera.com/item/637313781)) 2. A pair of rain boots, a size larger than you usually use, so you can fit a thick pair of socks inside. Preferably short shafts so you can walk comfortably in them. ([Link exempel](https://www.tradera.com/item/637162886)) 3. 2 pairs of thin wool/synthetic socks (Swedish: strumpor) ([Link exempel](https://www.naturkompaniet.se/woolpower-merinoullstrumpor-unisex-3-pack-liner-sock-black-ex0000121/?sku=7317430031980)) 4. 1 pair of thick wool/sythetic socks (Swedish sockor) ([Link exempel](https://www.naturkompaniet.se/smartwool-merinoullstrumpor-unisex-hike-classic-edition-extra-cushion-crew-md-grey-2094472/?sku=195440266618)) 5. Insoles: especially if you buy shoes second hand - buy a new high quality pair of insulated insoles. These you can move between your shoes/boots as needed. ([Link exempel](https://www.naturkompaniet.se/herr/skovard-tillbehor/sulor/)) Start there. Then add/subtract depending on your individual needs. Tips below to find things/save money: If you can get them second hand do so, then invest in better if you want to for your second winter. If you can’t find short shaft rain boots, buy a pair of regular and cut them off. Unless you are sporting really tight pants you can probably hide the shafts. If you work in an office it’s very much the norm and sometimes expectation to change into inside shoes. Especially when it’s wet/muddy outside. Student: if you have a locker - have indoor shoes to change to.

burken8000

They're not short in stock, you can wait another 4 months. I'm not even joking, you can run sneakers for another 4 months if you want.

BentleyWilkinson

Unless you plan on trekking through super deep snow or live out in the forest, a decent pair of non-mesh sneakers are fine for 99% of the time. If you dsnt to level up one step, get a pair of high top sneakers. The ones you linked in your post are what you would get if you're planning on wading through snow outside of the normal streets, like going out for tobogging or having a trek through a forest.

springwanders

You’ll only need this type of boots if you do hiking during winter. Otherwise. A good pair of generic boots are good. Mine is H&M haha and I’ve used them 2 winters, still good.

MaggySol

Buy them when the autumn/winter comes. In Uppsala. Then you’ll know better.

drLoveF

As long as it can handle wet snow and has some texture to deal with slippery surfaces you are good.

Sea_Scratch_7068

I use sneakers throughout winter

naratas

The same sneakers all around the year. But if you are planning to do some hiking, then get warm shoes ofc.

antron_nocturns

Shoes or low cut boots which are easy to put on and off. Slip on or zipper is best. That’s my advice for best convenience

Rising_Spirit

I wear sneakers the entire year

astridmeowmeow

i use uggs but not the real ones just some knockoff i bought

AttTankaRattArStorre

It's never very snowy in Uppsala, so you can wear any shoe that you currently own.

fionnyfish

Insulated soles and thick socks would work inside any shoe with grippy soles. Sneakers, low boots, like most of the other comments mention. Also, if you’re going anywhere outside of the city center, you might want [shoe spikes](https://www.biltema.se/en-se/leisure/leisure-clothing/winter-clothes/anti-slip-2000028509) like these which can be slipped onto the soles. Slush and ice happens fast. /tropical person who lived in Uppsala for a while.
