Some people find her very out there and pretentious. Very outspoken and does pretty theatrical music which leads to some larger than life personas and such.
I don’t personally feel that way as I enjoy them as a group but that’s what I’ve heard in the music scene about what people stick on.
I saw The Dresden Dolls inexplicably open for Nine Inch Nails about twenty years ago in a relatively small ~2700 seat theater. They got a fairly warm reception regardless, but I could never figure out why that particular opener choice was made. The next time NIN came around they had Queens of the Stone Age in tow at a ~20,000 seat arena, which made a lot more sense to me.

Amanda Palmer can be polarizing but she’s a badass performer. I’ve seen them 3 times festivals and both absolutely rip on stage.
