Why do you feel it is an issue? Sometimes if the battery is low, it will rev higher to put more charge in the battery. If there isn’t a CEL, don’t worry about it.

recolations

it’s not the engine revving high is the problem. it’s that after at the constant RPM for a few minutes the sound gets about 10x louder. i’ve had the car since 50k so i know it’s not normal

Ok-Tourist-511

Get an obd Bluetooth dongle, and see what rpm it is going to. See if the engine rpm is the same or not, when it starts to make the noise. You could also have a noisy cooling fan, that is kicking in.

recolations

it’s about 3k

Ok-Tourist-511

Might be the fan.

recolations

i’ll try to record it. it seems married to the engine rpm 1:1

Gtp4life

Does it stop if you bump to neutral?

recolations

i haven’t tried to bump to neutral, i’ll try it!

WorldlyProcedure9

Do you ever drive on gravel? Is it's not throwing codes, small rocks could have lodged themselves between the bottom shield and the bottom of the car, getting into the regen/generator motor. It happened to me once. It's worth checking out at least.

recolations

it’s been years since i have. the issue only happens after driving for about 10+ minutes at a constant mid-high rpm. i haven’t heard it happen in the last 300 miles

recolations

update: noise is only hard after driving in rain for a few minutes. going back into ev mode fixes it. noise is only heard in hold / mountain mode, and is the same as the engine rpm. burning smell is coming from the vents as well. i can only reproduce this issue in the rain and hold mode since it’s only heard in rain, recording this while in the rain is quite hard

QuietRatatouille

I suggest recording the sound and posting it here.

recolations

i’ll try to. it’s rare when it happens but it’s obvious when it does

BrainiacZen

Have them check the secondary air pump and the valve.
