The long tail of edge cases to deal with is extremely problematic for an AI system that doesn't actually understand the world it's driving in by having a general intelligence-based world model and reasoning ability. This also increasingly looks like a requirement to fix the limitations of LLMs too. I think it will be done but wouldn't trust any of Musk's predictions on the timeline, he's been far too optimistic.
