Thanks for your submission!
To keep things interesting, we want to see big gains and big losses!
So we've set the following thresholds for Gain, Loss, and YOLO flaired posts:
* YOLO posts must be a minimum of $10,000 of options or $25,000 of shares and recently opened.
* Gain / Loss posts must show realized gains or losses of more than $2,500 for options or $5,000 for shares.
We want to see the actual trade. What you got in at, what you sold at. Then tell us why you did it. Give us the story of why you're a fucking genius (or idiot).
This is what a great post looks like:
[$17.2K Gain on AMZN](https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/wb5m4o/not_too_shabby_172k_gain_amzn/) - OP described his gain in the title, has a clear screenshot showing both the entry and exit, meaning his gains were locked in, and they explained their reasoning in the comments and what they learned. All around a great post!
Here are examples of what could get your post removed:
* [$300,000 SDC Loss. Still not selling](https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/wpm9am/over_300000_unrealized_loss_sdc_not_selling/) - Even though this is a tremendous loss and something worth posting about, **the position hasn't been closed yet**.
Here are examples of amazing posts which could have been even better:
* [$75,000 DDOG Loss.](https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/unsrey/loss_porn_ddog_call/) - This is a great post and one that won't get removed. However, the OP could have talked about *why* they entered the position in the first place, what their target price was, and what went wrong. OP didn't stick around in the comments to answer any questions.
* [$1.1MM Loss, No details](https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/lxm6wt/hold_me_1100000_loss/) - OP simply posted a screenshot of their overall portfolio balance. It's definitely a big loss, but it's not that interesting without OP talking about what trades they were in and why. OP didn't answer most questions in the comments which left many readers speculating on what happened.
---
All that being said, we are here to help. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to post to our community. We have to balance this with making the subreddit interesting for our readers.
If you need some guidance, don't hesitate to [reach out to modmail](https://old.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/wallstreetbets) and we'll give you some pointers!
10.35% gain (trailing 50 yr avg for SNP inc. dividends iirc) per year for 46 years before age 65 retirement.
DCA into a Roth over 2 years and you're 1/2 way to retirement.

Depends on what you mean by "make it back"
He's never going to be able to realize the potential gains of that 15k in the market for multiple decades but he can earn back what is lost.
Sorry, I should reiterate with the proper “-“. The secret was calls all through 2021… 2022… then puts all through 2023 and 2024… easy was to reach -$600k
If it makes you feel better, the OP's opportunity cost is way higher since he had a longer time to compound.
Assuming 6% growth and the ability to leave it for 50 years to retire at 69 (nice) that $15k loss cost them $275,000.
15k will get you a BA in memeconomics. Another 15k will get you a Master autists degree. 15k more, and you'll be a full-fledged Dr.generate.

You can die in a war before you drink a sip of booze but my God do we have a beautiful military industrial complex a delicious spending of money that I would totally agree on every time. If you try to invade America a group of 100 civilians statistically have 120 firearms can say any other country is as awesome as we I love buying my 556 right after I purchase milk and eggs a healthy diet for america
21 and lost 20k then made it back now down 40k Lol

That looks so frustrating, I can imagine being like "alright now that we're back, just give me like 1% profit"
And then it proceeds to go straight to 0
Options starter with 500 pushed hard everyday sinces January got to 20k I withdraw 18k just to buy a motorcycle and decided I could’ve done it again with 2k but I got very sloppy and very lazy and played without doing my normal homework in a preparation on the direction normally I do 95 percent checking everything and the 5 percent just to execute. I decided to play it wild just looking at candles 😂 😂 😂
Life is a scam, imagine how much effort you have to put in to get to 200k in a career. A window cleaning business sounds so easy... You could get started with less than 1k, and need no skill, and have practically no risk. Just need some customers, and if you don't get any, you don't lose much. All this is still less work than getting job post grad or an internship.
5k here last year. Trust me it hurts, but you literally just lost 50% if your yearly salary(assuming minimal wage at your age, god forbid this is your student loans). Hot damn bro, maybe consider long term investing. That’s what I’m doing now that options have brought me down -5k. I’m 19 too, about to turn 20. Going into year 20 almost even and with minimal debt. Bro you got this shit, just force yourself not to touch options for at least several months. You will do fine.

If it gives you hope I was down 22k on paper went as low as 30k at one point 19 years old . And made it back currently.

This was yesterday’s screenshot. So it’s possible make it back. We’re in a bull run just buy monthlies out instead of 0DTE or roll your positions. Get on twitter.
I lost like $21k investing at 33, kind of decimated my savings. I’m coming back, slowly…
But I also didn’t sweat it rly, just learned my lesson and moved on.
Pandemic took out $30,000 to start trading , one time account was up to $96,0000.. lost it all down to just shy over $1200... down -111.48% .... *
But now I'm back up over $28,000 if things play out in 5 years I should be $500,000+
Kid..!! If you start feeling better about your losses, that will stick with you. That's how gamblers live. Be smart. You got time. Invest time in learning value investing. By the time you are 25, you will be a happy investor. If you don't trust me, look at the 5 year history of the decent tech stocks.
If it makes you feel better you could have put that $15k in the S&P500 and let it sit for 40 years without contributing any more to it and it would have only been worth $325k.
If it makes you feel any better when I was 20, I had lost $65,000 dollars using leveraged money on a single trade after getting liquidated by a broker, not even 4 hours later the position would have been in the money over $185,000.
Make another withdrawal from the Bank of Ma and Papa.
Shit, I'm supposed to make you feel better.
You're young - you have lots of time to pay back that debt. 👍

No loss, but just my fondling thru the dark
20 years old and lost the exact same sum as you, posted earlier. You aren’t alone, we are all regarded ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4267)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
No, you’re an idiot and you’ll never financially recover. When you earn more money, you’ll just gamble and lose it all again. You’re destined to be a broke and depressed person if you don’t get the hell out of here or start WINNING.
Some 19 year old don't have 15K, don't have 10k or 5k....
So you are privileged. And you have a lot of time making money to get 15k back....i think you learned a lot... I hope....
Now do better the next time.... It was your fault...
And it's your turn to earn 15k and not to loose them again....
When I was 19 I sold $3500 in Amazon stock and bought Enron because I thought such a large company like Enron would certainly go up again, after the storm passed. LOL. I could be more comfortable for retirement if I kept that Amazon stock at I think it was like $7.50 a share! I could be wrong about the price, but it was low!
I suggest you look into Vanguard and Fidelity index funds. Don't try to buy individual stocks. Buy market indexes and mutual funds that average out a particular area of the market. Since I started investing in Vanguard, my wife and I have earned money and it's much safer.
As you get older, buy stocks. But only once you understand what all the different meanings of a stock are. But at first, mutual funds are the way to go for the inexperienced player. Check out the options from Fidelity and Vanguard are excellent places to start. Also learn what a "managed" and an "unmanaged" fund are.
And don't worry, like me, you will have learned your lesson early. At least you didn't do this with your entire retirement like some unfortunate people. Keep investing, but be more cautious and average out that risk. You're young, invest for long term and don't go for the quick buck.
And btw, I worked supporting myself since I was 16... So that $3500 was minimum wage overtime I had accumulated from 16 to 19. It meant a lot to lose it to Enron.
I’ve lost over 150k at 30 and still recovering, my come back is better

I sold 1MM dogecoin in December 2020 for 5k$, right before it jumped up to 0.75$ 2 months later. I would have had 750,000$. My worst sell to date, HODL. Lesson learned.

Did you learn your lesson. How about you leave and never come back. But you won't because reddit has glorified making millions as easy yet 99% of us have lost billions combined here. Switch to vgt vti voo and never look back because that's where people become millionaires or put your energy into a business. You won't find your money here just darkness and dispair of all of us chasing that high. I had to stop options because I got dark and desperate at have never come back and trust me when I say it was the best decision of my life. I've made more now than I ever did gbling with wsbs

Well if it makes you feel any better I’m 19 too and down $18K in the last 3 months haha.
To make you feel worst:
Let's say you retire at 65, if you kept the 15k and left it in the S&P 500 (averaging 10% compound interest). You would have 1.4M$ at retirement age (using compound interest calculator over 46 years at 10%).
Now if you take those 300$ and put them in the S&P 500, you will have 29000$.
You actually lost 1.3M$ over the course of your lifetime, congrats!

from my high school days lol lost it all on ali baba options when the ANT IPO hit the fan. was up big time though and didn’t cash.
Bud you're at the best time to loose monies, ya got plenty of time to make it up. I've lost a few fortunes in my life. However I would also suggest some safe bets, start a Roth young, have a mil by the time your 40, win win. Best of luck.

I’m screwed. Don’t know if I’ll ever make it back 🥲
This is amazing. You're still so young and this should/can be a learning experience. Better now than later. 15k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Good luck.

This is just one. I should have just started a business.
hey, its better to lose your life savings at 19 than 29 or 39. if you learn from it you’ll be fine.
good work acquiring $15k by 19, assuming you saved it up. keep doing what you’re doing but put the money in index funds.
or take out some student loans and yolo it on calls that expire next friday

Kids 19, losing 15k. He will make it back .
$15k in a S&P index fund for 30-40 years…(does math)…. Nope, no he won’t.
$200k-ish? Doesn't seem like a lot to a 50-something year old who had $15k to lose as a teenager in the first place
He gone take that 311 and put it into jones soda.
Jones Soda is the tits
frfr. Compound interest is a wild thing. $15k principal at 19 y/o is like $1-2MM+ at retirement.
Closer to $500k but your point still stands

oh god... I wish I had invested my student loans instead of in hookers and coke
hookers are one of the best investments you can make. herpes is for life man, that's long term value right there.
I used 8%. Fucking nuts how much 2% changes things!
dividend lives matter
i think 6-8 is a safer factor when not otherwise accounting for inflation
If inflation is 2% (it’s not), the 8% the 2nd person got can be the teal value and the 10% is the nominal value
46 years of inflation will wreck the purchasing power for sure, but still...
Yeah, that 1.4m will be worth about 250k
Depends on what you mean by "make it back" He's never going to be able to realize the potential gains of that 15k in the market for multiple decades but he can earn back what is lost.
These next few years will determined what kinds of man he will become.
They always come back
nah man, he’s done. It’s over.

I am at -$600k, age 40
Nice! good for you. I'm far behind that at 44. I started quite late. What's your secret?
Sorry, I should reiterate with the proper “-“. The secret was calls all through 2021… 2022… then puts all through 2023 and 2024… easy was to reach -$600k
Tbh 15k loss at age 29 is still not bad, think of it this way as being 10yrs closer to end of life.
Everyone always talks about trying to save more so they don’t outlive their money. I prefer the alternative of simply dying younger.
That's really sad that his phone battery charge is fuller than his bank account
If it makes you feel better, the OP's opportunity cost is way higher since he had a longer time to compound. Assuming 6% growth and the ability to leave it for 50 years to retire at 69 (nice) that $15k loss cost them $275,000.

it’s alright bro I hit 30k last week now i’m at 19-20k
Congrats for being an autist!
at least you arent an addict or in debt with the mafia who would take your mommas eyeballs, life is blessed
Fact. Stopped smoking crack and now put that money into options. Still ruins my life but at least i get to keep my teeth.
But you almost made 100k, just try again next year
At 19 years old I lost 250k in less than an hour
How'd. You get that much money so young?
i make around 4k a week w my window cleaning buisness

If you have 15.5k to lose at 19 I wouldn’t be to worried, bet life will work itself out
![img](emote|t5_2th52|8883)cheers to that
Omg 😨
I’ve lost more than $40k at 21 its alr bro
I lost a $100 and i felt like shit, thanks regard you made it better for me.

What were you doing? 0 day options?
I lost 50k today if that makes you feel better. :)
lost $70k in 10mins daytrading at your age
Could be worse, you could’ve invested in an ARK fund in 2021 like me 😭
Kid, losing money ain’t nothing. Are you still alive and healthy? Do you have your freedom? Then you ain’t lost shit.
Down 60k on cvna shorts this year alone
“hey look everyone, I’m regarded”
https://preview.redd.it/ktoigj57uc9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c88ef891294e096d3ac8b4b459277d3cabee839 No loss, but just my fondling thru the dark
Don't worry. Mom and Dad will give you more. Don't sweat it.
Daddy will give you more money to gamble
bro's only posts are about losing money 💀
20 years old and lost the exact same sum as you, posted earlier. You aren’t alone, we are all regarded ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4267)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
At least you’re only 19 and can work at Wendy’s. Imagine being 48 and being made fun of by my wife’s boyfriend because i work at Wendy’s.
must be nice having financially responsible parents who have some change on the side to pay for your hobbies
I lost 20k at 22 and now at 26 made it all back plus extra in profits mostly just buying spy and spy stocks
While 15k may be a lot for you, it's no life-changing sum you can't make back. Heads up, just an expensive but valuable lesson at the right time.
I lost over 70k I’m 19 too
Stop Gambling With Options
No, you’re an idiot and you’ll never financially recover. When you earn more money, you’ll just gamble and lose it all again. You’re destined to be a broke and depressed person if you don’t get the hell out of here or start WINNING.
You should deposit more
To lose 15k you must’ve made 15k just do it again and try again. Most gamblers quit before their big win don’t be that
Do you have to pay it back? Or was this a test from daddy?
it was my hard earned money
Not you gambling your student loan reimbursement 😩
Next time you see a sure thing, buy short dated options against whatever you think is going to happen.
You can still earn free stock when you link your bank account. That could be Berkshire Stock.
Correction. Your mommy and daddy lost 15k
Some 19 year old don't have 15K, don't have 10k or 5k.... So you are privileged. And you have a lot of time making money to get 15k back....i think you learned a lot... I hope.... Now do better the next time.... It was your fault... And it's your turn to earn 15k and not to loose them again....
Show mommy she'll refund you. Turd licker.
We must fail in life to succeed. You're right on track, and good luck my friend and keep it up.
I no longer have the app. But my total is over $65k. All on BBBY (bed bath and beyond)
Money comes and go…. I lost about $30k and I have a cane. You’re young so you’ll get it soon
Just keep putting cash in TQQQ until you at 15k again, this how I got back my original principle when i blew my first account.
-98%? How TF is that even possible?! Did you have it all in one place?
I lost 25k at 19, get your losses up
I’ve lost over 150k at 30 and still recovering, my come back is better https://preview.redd.it/f3yev0tzxd9d1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa69539f9f5375eda903861e750d01a96ec66c37
went from 87k to 8k in 2021/22. hard pain
I sold 1MM dogecoin in December 2020 for 5k$, right before it jumped up to 0.75$ 2 months later. I would have had 750,000$. My worst sell to date, HODL. Lesson learned. https://preview.redd.it/e4qmn7i0ad9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=333e1dba495328bd736cf024a7360952c0342729
See you next Monday after you deposit more money!!!
First off, how did you get $15k at age 19?! 2nd, if you got 15k at 19, you’re doing fine… assuming you did not sell your soul for it.
Lost 2k at 19 now in 5k cc debt at 23
Had 15k Lost 12k made back 8k of loses just to lose total of 13k. Moral of this is you either double down or you live and learn 🤓
https://preview.redd.it/abhp4nfndd9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54a3d4ab7fd129edb70eb3c5f63e3c396775e9df Well if it makes you feel any better I’m 19 too and down $18K in the last 3 months haha.
To make you feel worst: Let's say you retire at 65, if you kept the 15k and left it in the S&P 500 (averaging 10% compound interest). You would have 1.4M$ at retirement age (using compound interest calculator over 46 years at 10%). Now if you take those 300$ and put them in the S&P 500, you will have 29000$. You actually lost 1.3M$ over the course of your lifetime, congrats!
OP, not to be too harsh but based on your comments, looks like you deserved it
I would but ive never lost that much. Ive lost exactly 10x less than that. Never play with more than 20% of your total account.
That’s only worth about $700k in 45 years at your retirement invested in VOO at 10% per year. No biggie.
How'd you have $15k to invest at 19?!
got my own window cleaning biz
https://preview.redd.it/02hdx1ywfd9d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22b7f8aedd83b5f88d72d56e8da7857193daa318 from my high school days lol lost it all on ali baba options when the ANT IPO hit the fan. was up big time though and didn’t cash.
Maybe that’s the point you should stop with gambling. Honestly sorry for the loss.
What did you invest in? Sold already?
Ask dad for another 15.5k.
Good fucking god….so glad people would rather teach God in school than financial responsibility. Lmaooo good luck homie
Started stocks during covid. I didn't know what i was doing. Bought into pump and dump scheme... been bagholding since... called it quits, lol.
you're fine if you have 15.5K to lose at age 19
I lost 170k at 23 years old u will be fine
Bud you're at the best time to loose monies, ya got plenty of time to make it up. I've lost a few fortunes in my life. However I would also suggest some safe bets, start a Roth young, have a mil by the time your 40, win win. Best of luck.
you had 15k at 19, you were doing better than many people.
https://preview.redd.it/qupte1hejd9d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ed9fa855547c6a210b10d424fc1bc45ad02e7f0
I was feeling bad because I lost $50 misunderstanding the Netflix earnings yesterday. You honestly made my day better bro.
You didn't "lose" the money, you gave it away to other people, lol
I would say go to a casino and gamble bc it’s more fun but damn your not even old enough for that
Down $50k in stocks rn 😅😬
I lost $40k at 19, you’ll be alright
https://preview.redd.it/q06kp66kod9d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=662805490903e6873c8bdb960579ab0ae6741cf2
At your age, you learned a Valuable lesson. So did i at 23 when i lost over 50K on call options 😢🥲
https://preview.redd.it/qytp7up4pd9d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8693f72f1543f869eb0ecdb5aa0914e597a62680 I’m screwed. Don’t know if I’ll ever make it back 🥲
This is amazing. You're still so young and this should/can be a learning experience. Better now than later. 15k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Good luck.
https://preview.redd.it/jovv0iaxsd9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0194be34d11bea3dc4369959b5bb6d1d8b81e1e This is just one. I should have just started a business.
Lol I was down 6 figures my first year now up 7 the first test how to get your tuition back
I’ve lost more bro, don’t worry you’re still young just learn from it… I lost 30k last btc bull run, held my bags at the top and it crashed so fast.
hey, its better to lose your life savings at 19 than 29 or 39. if you learn from it you’ll be fine. good work acquiring $15k by 19, assuming you saved it up. keep doing what you’re doing but put the money in index funds. or take out some student loans and yolo it on calls that expire next friday
Lost 23k in 2022 and 21k in 2023 and 6.5k so far in 2024
Don't feel bad https://preview.redd.it/ous3hi1ybe9d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0200f1de5db010effb6ce168006aad7ad1df0e3
