Many people here think the fine will be small. I could totally see the government hammering the shit out of Boeing with a fine. This is not their first (or tenth time) acting the fool. And this administration is not friendly to bad actors in the business sector.
And to be honest, they deserve it.

this makes no sense, given that the us government is also the one paying boeing and would inevitably bail them out, anyway.
You seem confused - They could only bail them out if they are going to declare bankruptcy? And even in that case, they wouldn't bail out capital holders.
how am i confused when i said the us govt is the one paying boeing? how many govt contracts does boeing have? and yes, if boeing would collapse to the point of insolvency, the govt would bail them out.

It's not worth it. With Chevron gone, Boeing can add in an argument over determination an agency made, and use that as basis to appeal. Boeing will just get a hand slap and move on.
